*Sasuke POV*
Sasuke was lying on top of a firmly muscled body when he awoke the next day. His head was tucked securely underneath Naruto’s chin and strong arms were wrapped around him. He felt so warm and safe he wished he could stay there forever. The raven sighed and snuggled closer listening to the beating of the blonde’s heart. “Good morning, Teme…well afternoon but same difference. Did you sleep well?” Naruto asked. Sasuke nodded then cracked his eyes open and gasped in surprise. “Naruto is the window over there,” Sasuke asked, pointing. “Yeah, it is. Can you see it?” the blonde replied. He sounded excited. “It’s a little bit brighter over there. Not so black.” He felt a kiss pressed to the top of his head. “That’s really good Teme. It means the seal is working. We should tell Baa-chan when we go see her today. But first, food! What would you like?” Sasuke didn’t know how to answer Naruto’s question. Nobody asked him what he wanted, especially not food. He was to be thankful for what he was given; never ask for more or something different. His body began to shake but Sasuke managed to answer, “Wh-whatever you h-have is-is fine.” “Hey now, what’s the matter? There’s nothing to be afraid of, it’s just me. Just relax and tell me what’s wrong,” Naruto crooned pulling Sasuke even closer. Sasuke took a deep breath and let it out. That’s right, it’s Naruto. Naruto won’t hurt me. “T-they used to ask what I wanted, then torture me when I answered. I was to be grateful for what they gave me,” the raven explained. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know I was bringing up bad memories. I’m proud of you for being able to tell me though. Let’s try this differently. I will ask if you feel like eating something and you answer honestly okay? I know tomatoes are your favorite so how about something with tomatoes,” Naruto suggested. Sasuke’s mouth watered. He did love tomatoes. Tentatively the raven nodded his head. “All right something with tomatoes then. Do you like eggs?” Sasuke’s nod was a little more confident this time. “How do cheese, tomato, and spinach omelets sound? Good?” Sasuke couldn’t remember what omelets tasted like, but he thought he liked them. He nodded again. “Omelets it is then!” Naruto exclaimed. The hands on Sasuke’s back shifted and he jumped as he heard a soft poof behind him. “Shhh I just made a shadow clone to do the cooking so I don’t have to put you down. Come on, let’s get dressed.” Sasuke felt himself lifted and held onto Naruto’s neck to try to help support some of his weight. There was a scraping sound the he assumed was the blonde opening and closing drawers, then he was settled back into Naruto’s lap. A shirt was pulled over his head and what felt like sweatpants were slipped onto his legs. He was jostled a bit and he assumed that was Naruto dressing himself. Naruto carried Sasuke into the bathroom and was seemingly unembarrassed as he helped the raven relieve himself and perform his morning ablutions. When they exited the bathroom the apartment was filled with a delicious smell. “It smells good,” Sasuke whispered to Naruto. “It does, doesn’t it? We will have to see how it tastes. They should be ready by now. Ah perfect timing! My clone just dispelled. Food is waiting for us on the table,” Naruto said. He carried Sasuke a few more steps before there was a scraping sound and he sat down. The raven was coaxed into a sitting position on Naruto’s lap and a fork was pressed into his hand. “Your plate is right in front of you and a glass of orange juice is behind it and to the right,” the blonde informed him. Eating was a bit difficult but Sasuke managed without too many mishaps. He savored the taste of fresh tomatoes in the omelets. Never would he have guessed that the ramen loving idiot of the village was such a good cook. The orange juice was sweet and tangy and it tasted freshly squeezed. Sasuke was only able to eat about half of his meal before becoming too full to take another bite. He laid his fork down and leaned back against Naruto’s chest. “Finished?” the blonde asked. “Yes. Thank you for the food. It was amazing. I never knew you were such a good cook,” Sasuke complimented. “Thank you. When I was little I really couldn’t cook but once I got a little older and learned how I discovered that I really liked it. If you like, we can save your left-overs and you can have them later.” “I would like that. It was really very good,” Sasuke answered shyly. Another soft poof told him that Naruto made another shadow clone to clean up for them. He was about to comment on it when the doorbell rang. The raven squeaked and pressed close to Naruto. “Well, it looks like someone came to check up on us. Let’s go see who it is shall we?” Naruto said, cheerily. Sasuke was once again gathered in those strong arms and held against the hard chest. He wrapped his arms around Naruto’s neck and buried his face against him. Sasuke heard Naruto open the door and greet the person on the other side. “Iruka-sensei! It’s good to see you! I would give you a hug but my hands are a little full at the moment.” “Hello, Naruto. It’s nice to see you as well. And I see the rumors are true. You did indeed bring back Sasuke. It’s good to see you also Sasuke,” the academy teacher said. Sasuke gripped Naruto’s neck tighter and tried to melt into him. He wanted to answer but he was simply terrified. “C’mon in Iruka-sensei. We can talk and catch up. I haven’t seen you in so long,” Naruto said. “I would love to. I some free time before I am needed at the missions desk. Truthfully I came by to see why you were on paid leave, but I guess that question answered itself,” Iruka said. Sasuke could feel Naruto moving back into the apartment. He guessed they were headed to the living room and it was confirmed when the blonde sat on a resilient surface. One of Naruto’s hands made its way into Sasuke’s hair and began to play with the thick, soft strands. Gradually the raven relaxed into the soothing motion. He didn’t listen to the conversation but instead to Naruto’s voice as it rumbled through his chest. It was so much deeper now than it had been before he was taken. Idly he wondered what else about Naruto had changed over the years. How long had he been gone? Eventually Iruka excused himself saying he needed to be at the missions desk. “N-naruto?” Sasuke asked after they had resumed their seat on the couch. “Yes, Sasuke? Did you need something?” the blonde asked, concerned. “I-I was wondering. How long have I been gone? All the days bled together when I was with him.” Naruto’s hand resumed playing with his hair and it was a while before he answered. “You were gone 6 years, Teme. We are both 18 now. Your birthday was 3 months ago and mine just a few weeks,” Naruto said sadly. “W-will you tell me what you look like? I want to have a picture in my head. I keep seeing the 12 year old you and it doesn’t fit,” Sasuke explained. “Well, I am much taller now. I am over 6 feet and taller than Kakashi-sensei. My hair is a little longer, but not much. I have been training really hard so I guess I filled out pretty well. Here you can feel for yourself,” the blonde said and he brought one of Sasuke’s hands to his face. Tentatively, terrified of doing something wrong, the raven explored Naruto’s face. His hand wandered over smooth cheeks with 3 slightly indented lines that he remembered looked like whiskers and traveled up over closed eyes and a straight nose, then wandered down to soft thin lips. Caught up in his explorations, Sasuke began to forget his fear and became bolder with his movements. He traced the perfectly shaped eyebrows and finally buried his fingers in thick hair that he knew was the color of sunlight on a cloudless summer day. “Oh shit!” Naruto exclaimed. “I lost track of time! We need to run if we are going to make it to Baa-chan on time. Come on, up you go.” Sasuke was hefted into strong arms and Naruto rushed out of the house. He flew across the roof tops with the raven in his arms. They entered a building without descending so Sasuke imagined they had used a window. Naruto suddenly ducked and something shattered against the wall behind them. “You damn brat! How often do I have to tell you to use the door!” the Hokage yelled. “Ahh! Hey! Precious cargo here you old hag!” Naruto yelled back. Sasuke smiled a little at their antics. They really were quite similar. Then he realized something; Naruto had just called him precious. He was dazed and distracted for the rest of the meeting. Only vaguely was he aware that they loosened the seal on his legs some more and Tsunade said he could try to stand and walk for short periods of time. Precious. Naruto had said he was precious cargo. Did he mean it? Was it just a retaliation for Tsunade? He wasn’t aware they had left the Hokage’s office until they reached Naruto’s apartment and the blonde had to readjust him to open the lock. “Finally back with me, Teme? That was some trip you went on. Where did your mind go?” Naruto asked as he carried Sasuke inside to the couch. “You noticed?” Sasuke said, surprised. “Silly Teme, I notice everything about you. So you going to tell me what had you so distracted that you couldn’t pay attention during your checkup?” the blonde prodded. “You called me precious,” Sasuke said simply. “Oh, is that all? You are precious Sasuke. You are the most precious thing in the world to me,” Naruto replied. Sasuke was dumbfounded. Naruto thought he was the most precious thing in the world. Even after knowing what Orochimaru had done, he still thought he was worth something. Not even in his most hopeful dreams had he ever considered the possibility of Naruto considering him anything more than a comrade to be helped. “Do you mind being precious to me?” Naruto asked his voice strange. Was that…nervousness? Why would he be nervous? Unless…he thought Sasuke wouldn’t want him. But that was stupid. Sasuke had loved him since they were twelve. Thoughts of Naruto were the only thing that had gotten him through his time with the snake. Naruto knew that…didn’t he? “Sasuke? Teme?” Naruto’s voice broke the raven from his thoughts. “I swear I won’t do anything about it, but I can’t help how I feel. I didn’t mean to tell you. I didn’t want to scare you it just slipped out.” “Did you mean it?” Sasuke needed to hear him say it. “Yeah. Yeah I meant it,” the voice didn’t belong in Naruto’s mouth. It was sad and hopeless. Naruto always saw the bright side. Sasuke needed to fix it. “I love you. I have loved you since that day so long ago on the bridge with Haku. The only reason I survived Orochimaru is because I hoped you would save me,” Sasuke was cut off by Naruto. “Don’t say it unless you are absolutely sure you mean it Sasuke. I couldn’t take it if you are just telling me this because it is what you think I want to hear. If you don’t feel the same it won’t change anything about our relationship. I won’t leave you and I will still help you through this. I told you you won’t be alone until you want to be and I meant it.” “I mean it. That’s why I was so horrified when I saw that I had hurt you. That’s why I jumped in front of the senbon for you. I love you, Uzumaki Naruto, my Dobe, and I always will.” The Uchiha was crushed against a hard chest and lips were pressed to his forehead. He relished the sensation until something warm and wet dripped onto his face. “Why are you crying, Dobe? Don’t cry,” he said and brought a hand hesitantly to Naruto’s face. “I’m fine, Teme. It’s just not every day a demon brat has his dreams come true,” the blonde assured him. Sasuke cuddled closer. “You aren’t a demon. You’re my savior.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
