Sasuke woke when he felt himself being laid on the ground. He frantically grabbed at Naruto and cried, “No! Don’t leave me! Please, don’t leave me!”
            He felt himself gathered back against Naruto’s bare chest as the blonde crooned to him. “Shhh, I’m not going anywhere. I promised, didn’t I? I was just going to set up the tent. We are setting up camp for the night.”
            “I will set up your tent, Naruto. Don’t worry about it,” Kakashi said.
            “Okay, Sasuke. Kakashi will take care of it. I won’t let you go. Just go back to sleep.” Sasuke gradually relaxed as Naruto kept speaking soothingly to him and rocking him gently. Soon he had fallen back into a deep sleep.

*Naruto POV*

            Naruto looked down at the sleeping man in his arms and he wanted to bring Orochimaru back from the dead just so he could kill him again more slowly and painfully. His arms involuntarily tightened around Sasuke and he held him even closer. Nothing would ever hurt him again if the blonde could help it.
            “I’ll keep you safe, Sasuke. Nothing will ever hurt you again,” he promised.
            “Was it that bad?” Kakashi asked, softly so as not to wake the dark haired man.
            Naruto shook his head. “It was worse,” he said. “God Kakashi. I can’t imagine what he went through. What I saw was bad enough. I don’t want to think about what he could have done in the six years he had Sasuke. The fucker blinded him and paralyzed him from the waist down with seals and I had to promise not to hate him before he would tell me anything about them.” Naruto felt like crying.
            “Focus on the positive. At least he trusts you. That is a good sign. It means he wasn’t quite broken yet. Sasuke is strong and if anyone can help him recover from this, you can. Between you and Tsunade-sama I’m sure you can fix the seals and I know how much you love him. Just make sure he knows too,” Kakashi advised.
            “I can’t tell him that. I don’t want to scare him away,” the blonde protested.
            “I don’t think it will, but it’s your decision. Go get some rest. I will take your watch.”  Naruto started to protest but Kakashi’s glare made him reconsider. Carefully so as not to jostle Sasuke he left the fire and entered his tent. He pulled back the blankets and gently set Sasuke down. The dark haired man clutched at his shoulders and whimpered a little as he woke slightly.
            “Shhh, Sasuke. I’m still here. I’m just getting into bed,” Naruto soothed. He quickly crawled under the covers and pulled Sasuke tightly to him. “See, I’m here. I will always be here. I promise.” The blonde smiled as he felt Sasuke wriggle closer and bury his face in the tanned neck. Overwhelmed with tenderness the tanned man gave in to his desire and pressed a kiss to the top of the raven head he loved so much. For so long he had loved Sasuke. As a genin he hadn’t known how to express his love so he had settled for just having Sasuke’s attention on him. It wasn’t what he truly wanted, but it was enough. Then Sasuke had left and Naruto’s heart had shattered. But he had never been one to give up so he vowed he would bring the Uchiha back. And finally after six years of training and searching, he had him. Naruto pressed another kiss to the sleeping man’s hair and allowed himself to relax into slumber.
            Naruto awoke with a start when Sasuke began to thrash and cry out in his sleep. “No, no don’t touch me! Please don’t! It hurts! Take it out! Make it stop!”
            “Sasuke. Sasuke! Wake up. It’s just a dream. He can’t hurt you anymore,” Naruto said, shaking the pale man. Dark eyes flashed open and Sasuke began to struggle against his hold.
            “Let me go! Let me go! Don’t hurt me. Please don’t hurt me,” Sasuke begged.
            “Shhh, Sasuke. Relax. Listen to me. Listen to my voice, Teme. It’s Naruto. I’m not going to hurt you. Shhh, you are safe here.”
            “No, it’s a trick! I’m dirty and broken. Naruto wouldn’t come for me. Nobody would want me. Leave me alone!” the pale man cried.
            “Hush, Teme. It’s not a trick. It’s real. Remember yesterday? I found you and I killed him and took you away from there. Kakashi and Sakura were with me. I dressed you in my shirt. Remember? It’s real. I’m here. I promise, and I never break a promise.” Naruto desperately tried to reassure Sasuke that he was safe.
            “N-naruto? A-are you real?” came the tremulous voice.
            “Yes, I’m real. And I’m here. It was just a dream. You are safe now. I have you,” the blonde promised. Sasuke buried his face in Naruto’s chest with a cry and began to sob. The blonde gently stroked the soft dark hair and rubbed circles on the thin back. He crooned reassurances until the sobs slowed and Sasuke began to calm.
            “Hey, better now?” Naruto asked with a smile.
            He felt Sasuke nod into his chest. “B-better. It was so real,” he said.
            “Do you want to talk about it?” the blonde asked gently, still gently stroking the dark hair. Sasuke purred a little and pressed into his hand.
            “Mmm that feels good. I dreamed I was back with him. He was doing things to me and I couldn’t stop him. It hurt and I begged him to stop but he just laughed,” the raven said as he shivered slightly. Naruto’s hold tightened just slightly.
            “Why did you think it was a trick and that I wasn’t real? It’s okay if you don’t want to answer.”
            Sasuke buried his face even deeper in Naruto’s chest. “He…He used to do things like that. He would henge into you when he would rape me. He told me I was dirty and you could never want anyone that was as filthy as me. He said I wanted it and I deserved it. But I could always tell it wasn’t you. The henge was never quite right and you aren’t cruel. Even if you did hate me, you wouldn’t torture me. And he never called me ‘Teme’. That’s how I knew it was you yesterday. You called me ‘Teme’.”
            Naruto nuzzled the raven locks and said, “I beat the shit out of anybody who called me ‘dobe’ after you left. For me it was your way of showing affection and having anybody else say it hurt too much.”
            Sasuke was quiet for a long while then he said, “I didn’t. Leave I mean. After we fought I looked down at your unconscious body and I was horrified by what I had done. I was running back to Konoha to get help but Kabuto caught me and brought me to Orochimaru. I always hoped you would come find me like you promised and you did.”
            “Of course I did. You are my Teme. I will always come for you, no matter where you are. Now, we don’t have to be up for a good few hours yet. Let’s get some more sleep,” Naruto said. Sasuke nodded and cuddled close to the hard tanned body. The blonde smiled and held him even closer as he once again drifted into slumber.
