A/N: Hey ya'll! It's Kuro-kun here with the next chappie for the Golden Shadow. I'm terribly sorry for the long wait on an update for this. Other stuff including real life has been taking my attention away. I'm finally back to where I used to be writing wise. It's been great to be back to where I was with frequent regular weekly updates on things. Hopefully this will be updated more often like Vibrations is. Again, I'm incredibly sorry for the long wait. I'll try to make this chappie somewhat longish. Perhaps I'll include other and/or new pairings depending on what happens. I hope ya'll enjoy what happens this time. Please R&R!
Chapter 9
Later, when Sakura awoke, she isn't human any longer. Ino grasped her hand, squeezing it gently. She grinned, greeting the new mermaid back to the waking world. When Sakura regained her bearings, she looked down at herself to see what changed. Her legs are replaced with a coral colored tail similar to how Gaara's looks like although hers is more of a cherry blossom hue. Her scales are the same color with a mixture of different shades of pink and red. She oticed that she could breathe underwater thanks to the transformation without her gear. Hopefully she'll be able to return it in one piece whenever she'll come back to the ship. Until then, she'll see if she can find Naruto this way.
"We'll need to create a backstory for you," explained Ino, helping her up. "I'll also teach you how to swim with your tail so you're not flopping around."
Blushing, Sakura nodded, "Um, thanks."
"No problem," grinned the blondie, giving an appreciative look at Anko as she dragged the rosette out of the cave out into the pathways of the briny deep.
Once out of the sea witch's cavern, Ino helped Sakura learn how to use her tail and fins to navigate the waters. It hadn't been easy. It started off kind of sloppy, but eventually she got the hang of it. Traversing their way towards the gates of the kingdom is where they stopped. Ino needed to know something of the other woman before they continued forth towards the castle where they should be able to find Naruto. Noticing that they had halted caused the rosette to glance over at the blonde. Raising a brow, she waited for whatever would be said or asked towards her.
"Are you sure about this?" Asked the mermaid, wanting to make sure this is what Sakura wanted to do before proceeding. "There's no turning back after this."
Scoffing in response she said, "Of course I am. Don't be silly."
"Ok, just needed to make sure," smirked Ino before darting past the gates with one of Sakura's hands clasped in her own.
Inside of the kingdom is a hubbub of commotion. Word had spread quickly of their princes having found their mates. There would be a celebration indeed. yet, no one knew of the secret behind Naruto's past. What Sakura hoped is to find him to bring him back to the ship. Knowing her cremates up above would be waiting for her return she had no idea when that would be. It could be hours, days, or months. There's just no telling. Somehow she felt safe with Ino. There's something about the blonde that appeals to her.
"He should be in here," said Ino quietly, knocking on the door when they've entered into the palace to go through the corridors until finding Sasuke's room.
"Yeah?" Asked the voice belonging to the boisterous blonde that Sakura knows all too well.
"Hi," waved the rosette when seeing him.
"Saku-chan? What are you doing here?" Asked Naruto in confusion, moving aside to allow the two women into the room. "Sasuke isn't here if you're looking for him. He and Itachi went off to get rid of some sharks harassing some of the civilians."
"Ah, I see," nodded Ino, closing the door behind them. "She's been searching for you. The rest of the crew up on the surface has no idea what happened to you."
"Oh," frowned Naruto, knowing this din't bode well. "Tell them I'm ok, but don't worry about me. I'll be fine down here."
"You can't leave," stated Sakura glumly.
Shaking his head, Naruto gave her a consoling pat on the shoulder, "That would be correct. I'm bound to him."
"Then what are we going to do?" Sighed Sakura in dismay even though all she actually had to do is search for him although she had hoped that she would be able to take him back with her to rejoin the others.
"About what?" Asked the voice of the second in line for the throne, not noticing he had arrived sooner than expected from his mission.
Gulping, Sakura swam to hide behind Ino, "Ah, my prince, I had no idea you would be coming back so soon. I wanted to come see how Naruto is doing and I' showing my mate around."
"You found someone?" Inquired Sasuke, raising a brow while he moved over to Naruto, looking him up and down to make sure he hadn't received any injuries and when he deemed Naruto ok he gave a nod of approval.
"Yep," grinned Ino, wrapping an arm around Sakura. "I found her out on the outskirts of the kingdom lost."
"Um, hi," greeted Sakura nervously, giving Ino a look that they would talk about this later although felt grateful she had come up with a story on the spot that Sasuke seemed to believe.
"It's interesting she found someone not far away," mused Sasuke, knowing that he and Naruto would eventually be having their next of kin thanks to his previous actions on the blonde. "But pleasing to hear."
"Good," smiled Ino. "Can we be dismissed?"
"Hn, yes," replied Sasuke with his gaze hardened, showing nothing except when he and Naruto are alone.
The two mermaids exited the room to leave the two mermen to whatever they're up to. Turning to Sasuke, the blonde gave a questioning look. There are things he wanted to know. Yet, he had no idea how to go about it. Noticing this, Sasuke motioned for Naruto to go on. If there remained any hint of doubt he wanted to rectify it.
"What's wrong?" Asked the Uchiha, his voice softening ever so slightly.
"Why aren't you nice when others are around?" Asked Naruto simply.
"I can't show weakness around others. Somehow you bring out emotions I've kept hidden deep within that are bubbling to the surface."
A/N: Yays! Done with chappie nine! I'm oh so sorry for the late update. At least I managed it eventually. Slowly and surely I am updating and eventually completing my stories. Hopefully ya'll enjoyed what happened this time.
Sekito: I'd vote for you to do another chappie of this and then work on something else.
Rakknar: Agreed.
Kuro: Hehes, I can do that.
Rakknar: Good, you better.
Sekito: Besides, that'll help make up for the long wait.
Kuro: True.
Rakknar: Well, they will have the next chapter of this out whenever it's written up. Most likely that will be later today or so. Just depends on when that'll be completed. Just be patient with them. Until then remember to review darlings!
