Chapter Four
Clash
Land of Giants- Unknown
Naruto
February 4, 2000
There it was.
A hell spawn in the flesh.
And definitely female.
He could make out a heavy bosom outline under it’s cloak. He couldn’t see its face, though chestnut curls dangled from inside the darkened hood, and a sinfully plush pair of lips were tucked above a delicate chin. Eyes narrowed, chest rumbling a deep throated threat, Naruto lowered his bulk into a semi-crouch, tightening his muscles for impending combat.
“Witch,” Sakura intoned, moving to the forefront, serpents hissing, “by order of the sixth Hokage of Konoha, you are hereby under arrest. Surrender peacefully.”
Silence reined following the announcement, tension coiled between the trio as they tracked the unmoving being for any twitch or shift signaling opposition.
It’s voice was soft and lilting when it finally spoke, gentle and laced with an otherworldliness that set his nerves on edge. Naruto willed himself to force his apprehension to the background so he could make sense of the words flowing from the witch’s lips, “um…I’m sorry but…c-can you explain why I’m being…arrested?”
Reeling, Naruto blinked, his brows furrowing at the bashful question.
Was it being serious…?
Stunned into another round of silence that felt equal part surreal and awkward, Naruto glanced between his comrades. Sakura looked as shocked as he felt, her pink brows furrowed, mouth slightly agape. Sasuke looked put off but certainly more angry than surprised.
Sakura snapped out of it first.
“Just what the hell kind of game are you trying to play?!” the Fury raged, her snake posse echoing her sentient with hissing ire, “do you want me to give you a history lesson of every witch atrocity known to Naturals?! Curses, hexes, sacrifices, torture, experiments,” she listed on her fingers, “we’re still fighting new horde dens of zombies hundreds of years later! The lives of Naturals, world wide, have suffered for thousands of years thanks to you and your kind and you have the gall to ask us why you’re being arrested?!”
It moved, and the trio tensed, prepared for a fight or some heinous magic to come flying their way. Naruto’s heart was pounding in his ears, adrenaline surging through his veins as he watched the strange gestures of the cloaked figure. It lifted both its arms, exposing tanned, thin appendages. They bracketed both plump breasts, emphasizing their heavy weight in the process of it doing a weird…
…finger bumping motion.
“Don’t move!” Sakura snapped.
The witch seemed to startle, raising tiny hands in surrender, like those itty bitty hands weren’t stained in blood, as though those small palms couldn’t destroy the world in an instant.
His eyes narrowed.
Was it mocking them?
“I…I’m sorry,” murmured the magic wielding creature, “I-I don’t mean any harm.”
Cocking a sassy hip alongside her derisive snort, Sakura crossed battle toughened arms below her small breasts and snarled,“Natural’s haven’t dealt with your kind in a few hundreds years, but that doesn’t mean we forgot how you operate. There’s no such thing as a witch that ‘doesn’t mean any harm’.”
It shook its hooded head in denial, “not all of us are…we don’t all do those things…”
A burst of frigid air swept the enclosure, ruffling both clothes and hair, pebbling flesh with goosebumps.
Naruto glanced over at his lover.
Stood next to him, rigid and poised, Sasuke appeared as impassive as ever, looking every inch the Ice Prince, though a single glance into those red eyes, currently fused to the deceptive witch, told an entirely different tale. Their crimson depths were burning with an undercurrent of lethality and hate. Among their duo, reminiscent of yin and yang, the blonde lycan held a far shorter temper than his Vampire counterpart, often losing his cool in the face of Sasuke’s calm demeanor, and while it took a while to push his buttons, Sasuke had a nasty temper himself and certain circumstances, like discussing his curse or witches in general, ticked him off faster than Naruto short fuse.
The blonde could feel him seething.
Wouldn’t be much longer before he snapped.
“You’re a witch are you not?” Sasuke challenged.
It hesitated, acting as though the admission carried more weight than the evidence around them, then nodded.
“Then the notion that you mean no harm is not only ridiculous, it’s impossible,” the raven haired Vampire asserted, stepping closer to the propagator of his annihilated lineage, “magic is the break down of chakra, something humans cannot create, and in turn, witches cannot create. In order to survive, you have no choice but to steal what you need from Naturals, isn’t that right?”
“Ah…well, w-we do have to borrow chakra from-”
“You don’t borrow shit!” Naruto snapped, nobody asked his parents shit. They suffered and died as a consequence of some greedy witch fucking with the lives of Naturals, “you leech off of Naturals, steal their chakra and leave them for dead or worse!”
It flinched, whether from the truth of his words or the voracity of his tone, was anyone’s guess.
“The Uchiha spent years upon years studying the anatomy and motives of witches, learning more and more bout your kind with each clash,” Sasuke continued, “If you want to continue using magic, if you want to continue living, at some point you’re going to have to siphon chakra from a Natural, correct?
It didn’t answer.
“And you know, no Natural will willingly offer their chakra to you, leaving you no choice but to fight us for it. No matter what your intentions, your very existence is a dangerous detriment to all Naturals. Deny any of this and we’ll entertain the notion that a witch has a choice to be anything other than a plague.”
It couldn’t deny it. That was the reality, the very nature and make up of a witch.
“Enough of the lies,” Sakura chimed in, “how many more of you are there? You can’t be the only one roaming around. Who else is with you?”
It shook its head, “I…I’m here alone. There aren’t any others-”
“Why are you here? After decades upon decades why are you here now?”
Silence, and a slight bowing of its head.
The witch had no answer.
“Right,” the pinkette taunted, “we’re wasting our time trying to get straight answers from a witch.”
“I can’t…I can’t tell you why I’m here but,” she reached out a placating hand, “I really don’t mean any-”
It was fucking mocking them.
Naruto glared for all he was worth, packing more volume to his low growl until it’s harsh baritone echoed, “cut the bullshit! Either come peacefully or we’ll drag your ass back to Konoha in pieces!”
Its head canted slightly in his direction, pearly white teeth worrying its bottom lip, like it was nervous or something.
It…was weird.
Unnerving.
He knew what it was capable of, every Natural in existence lived and breathed the ramifications of its power and yet here it stood acting like a harmless being, clueless as to why it was being treated like a weapon of mass destruction.
This had to be some sort of trick.
History was writhe with tales of their magical trickery, pretty lies and heartless schemes. Old crones masquerading as simple merchants selling seemingly innocuous trinkets infused with dark magic designed to curse its owner with one tragedy after another, petty disputes over superficial competitions as to who was more beautiful in one region or another settled with juicy red apples laden with poison, even more heinous, insatiable hags assuming the demeanor of a kind grandma to lure younglings inside their gingerbread houses only to devour the naive children for dinner.
This being and others like it were not to be trusted.
“I…I know the history of my kind…I-I understand why there’s mistrust, but w-we’re not all like that, n-not any more…I don’t do those things…I’ve never sacrificed, hexed or cursed any-”
Thick ice encased the witch from her cloaked toes up to her lying throat.
Sasuke had lost his temper.
Capsulizing on the distraction, Naruto shot across the cave, claws outstretched for the trapped creature.
He was a second too slow.
The air charged, touching their skin with the unnatural buzz of magic a beat before a stream of fire blazed from its plush lips, melting the ice capsule and freeing itself.
His clawed hand smashed the left over cube into millions of twinkling shards.
He rebounded quickly, thundering towards it on all fours, tracking its cloaked form as it bounded deeper into the abyss. It was fast as hell, faster than his current transformed state. His blood was rushing, singing the thrill of a chase in his veins, driving his animal instincts to the forefront.
His maw opened, chakra gathered, a dense sphere formed and without a second’s hesitation, he launched it forward and two more after in quick succession.
Bijuu bombs were a rare ability, extremely versatile ranging from the size of a small cherry to that of a mountain if legends were to be believed, but no matter their measurement, each one packed an incredible amount of condensed power. His mother’s line had passed on the ability to him, and hot-head that he was, easily excitable as he was, he tended to use the deadly explosives with impunity.
He made no exception for his current prey.
These were no larger than a grapefruit but packed enough chakra to level a small forest.
The witch turned, lifted a delicate hand and moved its lips though not a single word reached his ears.
His power laden spheres crashed against an invisible force that illuminated briefly a beat after contact. Naruto committed the symbol to memory.
A black circle housing an eight pointed star inside.
Just like the symbol they saw drawn on the ground earlier.
The octagram symbol deflected each and every one of his bijuu bombs, sending them careening through the false terrain around them, earth shaking rumbles signaling their massive detonations far in the distance. Moonlight streamed within the holes left behind, beaming from the ceiling and ground, chipping away large chunks of the oppressive obscurity surrounding Team 7. A rumbling quake shook the ground below, fissures erupted across the darkness and a minute later, it all shattered. Towering trees, twin moons and the scent of forest emerged in a rush. Woodland creatures scattered, bushes rustled and the wind began to howl. They were back outside, the cave they’d entered now blown wide open, its left over rocky walls still smoldering from his bijuu bombs.
Distracted by its crumbling trap, the witch stood frozen mere seconds, more than enough time for Naruto to get his rough paws on her. He’d barely gotten a grip on the cloak’s fabric before the magic user came back to itself, whirling from his grip quick enough to flee. His sharp claws tore the fabric like tissue paper, separating witch and cloak.
Sasuke, then Sakura passed him by, hot on the witch’s tail.
He blew annoyed smoke through his nostrils, threw the ruined cloth to the floor and ran to back up his team.
Sakura, pretty pink wings spread wide, flapped hard and fast, shoot ahead of the unveiled creature. Slamming an explosive fist through solid earth, the resounding crater cut off the spirited escape. The witch pivoted a retreat only to be met with a wall of solid ice, it turned back to the Fury and caught a brutal fist, rivaling the force of a falling meteor, to the abdomen. A pitiful sound of pain left its lips as it sailed backwards, landing hard enough to shatter bone against an icy blockade harder than steel. The magic user lay slumped within the now dented ice, a trickle of blood dripping from lip to chin, chestnut locks in disarray.
Sakura didn’t give it time to regain its footing.
Cocking back a meaty fist, she let it fly, smashing Sasuke’s frigid granite wall into millions of pieces, missing her nimble target by a razor thin hair.
“You’re quick on your feet,” Sakura mocked, snaking locks hissing what sounded like laughter, “but if you think that’ll be enough to get you out of this alive you’re in for rude awakening,” she straightened and turned, spearing the silent witch with a hostile glare, “give up. You can’t win.”
A single arm wrapped around a belly that had to be screaming agony, chestnut locks obscuring its face, the witch held herself upright with the solid strength of a nearby oak tree,“I don’t want to fight any of you.”
“Then surrender and you won’t have to,” Sasuke commanded.
It shook it’s head, “I cannot, there are…things I have to do,” it straightened, sounding contrite as it brought a small hands to hover over an old looking locket resting on its bosom, “I’m sorry…”
A sonic blast swept the forest, rocking the earth and shaking the surrounding foliage.
Sakura felt the fine hairs at her nape stand on end.
A pulse hit her skin milliseconds before the very trees themselves jolted into motion and reached for her, their dense bark covered trunks forming deep carved faces that mimicked the horrifically grotesque visage of a ghoul locked in the throes of agony, an awful wail erupting from the dark void of their pointed mouths. Heavy oak branches latched on, taking hold of her arms, legs, neck and head, lifting her high into the treeline, their force far beyond anything she had ever felt. Furies were renowned for their strength and durability, Sakura was the strongest of her kind, she could level a forest with the flick of her finger, and yet right now, she could barely strain let alone move. Animated trees was unnatural in and of it’s self, her not being able to best the grip of what should be mere branches was another level of abnormal that left her disturbed and more fearful of the unknown dangers of magic than she had been in this entire exchange. Her emerald eyes were wider than he’d ever seen them, her slinky locks writing chaotically, hissing panic at the swarming branches.
“Sakura-chan!” Naruto barked, readying to battle this new flora enemy as the witch bounded away.
“Go!” Sasuke instructed his mate, forging his glacial chokuto with a flourished flick of his wrist, “you’re faster, I got her. Don’t let it get away!”
Frigid blade in hand, Sasuke flapped his leathery wings and launched himself skyward.
Naruto took off, angrily adding another tail as he ran.
It was quick, he’d give it that. Had it not been for the lingering odor of magic, Naruto wouldn’t have caught up to the slippery creature. Unfortunately for the witch, hunting was his specialty and once he had a scent there was nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
Hardheaded.
Relentless.
Determined.
Naruto Uzumaki was worse than a wolf with a bone, he didn’t know the meaning of the words ‘give up’.
He would find you.
Muscles delightfully blazing with strain, paws alight with the fire that’d helped give life to his breed of shifters as he trampled through the forest, Naruto sped right for the fleeing bunny. It ran with a unnatural grace, bounding over obstacles better than any gazelle, moving through brush and debris in a way that to him, it looked like nature parted for her. As though the forest itself was making a way for her. After what he’d seen with the trees, he wouldn’t put it pass her to have turned this entire forest into mindless thrall.
No sooner had the thought arouse, the trees reached for him.
He dodged three branches as thick as logs, leapt another and bijuu bombed his way through six more. Screaming rang through his pointed ears, a horrible sound that was just as painful as it’s trumpet-like volume.
He winced but kept going, pushing harder, his heart working into overtime, an excited rush spilling through his veins.
He was gaining on it.
He could see it.
Chestnut locks waving like a banner, lavender dress a pretty beacon in the night, its little form flying across a grassy plane. He opened his mouth, charged his chakra and sent a bijuu bomb bigger than its body hurtling forward faster than either one of them were running, this one, three times larger than the ones’s deflected earlier and coated in hellfire.
He felt the heat of it on his maw, smoke billowing from from his sharp toothed mouth and shiny black nose.
It slammed into the witch at break neck speed, drawing a pitiful cry and knocking it off it’s feet.
A fiery explosion ensued.
Naruto charged into the flames, unaffected by the scorching heat, the dancing flames caressing his skin like a million gentle caresses.
The witch was already up.
Naruto expected to see naked skin, that blast was hot enough to melt steel let alone fabric, instead its body was encased in…he didn’t really know what it was.
Pieces of leathery material that seemed painted on and didn’t cover much at all. He wasn’t attracted to women but he knew what their undergarments looked like, this wasn’t traditional bras and panties.
A bodysuit missing most of the middle, it started from the left breast, widened as it covered the right jug, it curved at the waist, leaving the left side of its stomach bare, but partially covering the right, showcasing a bright purple piercing inside and doted just below innie navel. It delved between its thighs, shielding the witches privates but curved again leaving the right hip bare but covering not only the left hip fully but winding down the entire leg, stopping at a delicate ankle.
There were no straps holding the thing up.
That shape was tattooed into its skin, right above two perky bosoms, a black octagram inside a circle.
“Fire proof,” he rumbled, his cheeky grin naught more than a baring of canine and malice, “lucky you.”
He crouched and leapt across the few feet separating the two, they met in a harsh clash, him unleashing a barrage of hard hitting strikes.
What do you know, the witch wasn’t a close combat slouch.
The magic wielder was efficient and precise, skillful and tricky.
He had never seen this fighting style before.
They exchanged blows and deflects, him swiping in controlled swings, a quick combination of paw and fang, aggressive and powerful, the witch the complete opposite, all defense and flowing grace, soft palms and dismissive redirection. Their contact was harsh and bone jarring, producing mini explosions of shock waves between them. It was an impressive feat, one that seemed impossible to him, that this itty bitty witch throw hands with his meaty stature.
Staring into each other’s fierce eyes, silently waging a battle of wills face to face, Naruto got a good look at its unremarkable visage. It didn’t have a face he would notice, even with the plump lips. Ordinary eyes with a slight sleepy droop, though the honey brown was pretty, ordinary nose neither too skinny or plump, ordinary bone structure without a single mark of significance, just all around easily forgettable features and yet there was strangeness to it as a whole he couldn’t put his whiskers on.
He swung a hard hook that rotated his body, fast enough, strong enough to take it’s head clean from its shoulders, the magic creature ducked, but he was waiting for that. He tapped into his momentum and spun full circle, swiping it off its feet with a tail then wrapping it up entirely with all four, finally capturing it. He squeezed tight enough to crush bone, and though the sturdy being didn’t break in his grip, the pained scream it let out was enough to tell him the witch was safely secured.
“You’re a real pain in the ass, ‘ttebayo,” he growled at it, bringing it closer to glare at it.
Big mistake.
It exhaled, blowing a stream of magic directly into his face, and whatever the hell it contained irritated every one of his senses. It was like he’d rubbed hot peppers right on his eyeballs, his poor sensitive nose felt as though he’d sniffed an entire cactus up his nostrils, his tongue felt twice its size and coated in poison, his ears were ringing painfully, while the skin on his face felt so goddamn itchy he couldn’t help but scratch it relentlessly.
Hammering blows reined down on his tails, another magic trick because he could still feel the witch trapped inside his appendages, but fuck did it hurt!
Felt like a rock Golem was pounding his flesh into mush.
Agitated, he swung the magic user like a ragdoll, slamming it from a hard tree to the ground and back again, a brutal command to stop tearing at his tails and punishment for whatever the hell was fucking with his senses, drawing shrill cries from his enemy and a new round of barrages that weakened his grip. The witch went sailing, landing hard somewhere nearby, though he couldn’t open his burning eyes to see where.
Branches yanked him from his feet, clamping with the force of a God on his arms, legs, tails, and torso. He filled his lungs, charged his chakra only for his mouth to be held forcibly with a thick vine.
Disoriented as he was lifted, Naruto forced open a watering eye.
He was high up, just below the treeline, a blurry figure hovering before him.
“Sorry, Mr. Shifter,” the witch apologized quietly, “I really didn’t want to fight you and I don’t want to hurt you, but…I have to do what I need to do to move forward and I just…I can’t allow anyone to stand in my way,” it reached forward, a pearlescent ring aglow on it’s finger, “you’ll only be gone for a little while…I promise.”
A strange symbol appeared on it’s forehead, and those honey brown melded into an entrancing milky lilac.
His skin felt strange, a stead heat rose inside him and what could only be describe as an invasion needled inside his brain.
Panic seized his insides.
He strained uselessly as it burrowed deeper, picking him apart form the inside, touching on that place inside him that he feared.
That black cauldron of darkness that festered below his chakra.
It hesitated, and even through his ringing ears, he heard the witch exhale a startled breath.
Sasuke
His lover was suspended high in the air, wrapped in the same monstrous trees he and Sakura had just finished pummeling into groaning splinters. They were sturdier than metal but slow, dangerous if they got the jump on you, though not invincible.
Naruto’s situation was far deadlier than Sakura’s.
The witch had him pinned, it’s ring aglow, about to do Gods know’s what to the lycan.
Another curse.
A hex.
A killing blow.
The Uchiha didn’t hesitate.
Heart pounding, Sasuke shot across the forest in a burst of frigid mist, his incorporeal form weaving through foliage before reforming with the witch caught inside the steel cage of his arms and pulling it away from the trapped Lycan. Fisting silky strands and wrenching her head to the side, he sank toxic fangs into the expanse of her neck, biting viciously, murder in defense of his mate driving the brutal force of his clamping grip. Rage and fear locking his dual rows of fangs deep inside velvety plush flesh…
…and unleashing the most incredible sensation he’d ever experienced.
Hot fluid filled his mouth, heady and savory, heavy with an foreign power he’d never tasted but never wanted to be without again. He was swept away in an instant, his grip tightening as he relished it’s potent flavor, its smooth decadent taste, its addictive heat. Her delicious blood more blissful than the incredible sensation of feeding straight from the vein for the first time in twelve long years. His arms tightened without his direction, bringing the witch flush to his heaving form.
A hard elbow nearly caved his chest in, sending him careening away from his prey.
Back on the ground, the witch whirled as he halted his trajectory and righted himself, it’s chocolate eyes staring wide eyed and fearful at him, hand pressed to the wound in it’s neck, the skin on that hand fading from tan to pale. Chest heaving, Sasuke watched its image grow hazy and inconsistent. Its honey colored orbs shifted to moonstones and back again. Deep violet briefly bled through chestnut locks. Its non-descript face softened and pixed, flashing into reality much like the rest of its features, a beautiful butterfly emerging from a cocoon only to retreat again.
He licked crimson his lips, savoring the ambrosia, eyes narrowed, as he willed his usually sharp brain to function. He felt drowsy and sluggish, struggling to put the pieces together, information roaring inside his muddled thoughts.
It clicked for him a beat later.
Glamour.
This had to be a glamour, an enchantment used to fool the senses.
The witch weaved on it’s feet, returning his attention to the magic wield he’d just effectively killed.
“Surrender now or die,” he told it, “my bite is toxic, even to your kind,” yanking down the neck of his shirt and bearing the black mitsudomoe mark branded between his neck and shoulder to the shock faced witch, “the curse in your bloodstream will rot you from the inside out in less than a week,” covering the mark, he moved closer, though kept himself prepared.
Even if it was already feeling the effects the witch was still dangerous.
“There’s treatment, one only I can provide,” he said, “surrender to Konoha.”
A lie.
There was no cure, no treatment, no way to slow down the corrosive fluid now coursing through it’s veins. He knew, more than anyone else, there was nothing that could be done to save this witch or him.
It would die.
This wasn’t the first witch infected by this vampire’s curse.
There were other witches brought low by the Uchiha bite, those that directly responsible for the curse, other magic wielders unlucky enough to find themselves hunted by the enraged Clan weaponizing the very dark witchcraft killing them.
Hundreds of witches had gone to the grave thanks to his people.
He moved towards it, his eyes drawn to the succulent crimson slipping through its fingers, he could still taste the addictive flavor on his tongue, could smell it with a clarity he’d never scented before. His mouth watered despite himself, his insides warmed and his pulse beat like a drum. He was caught somewhere between adrenaline and arousal, the later giving him pause.
He knew bloodlust, he felt it all the time, this felt different, too similar to what Naruto’s blood stirred in him.
He wanted another taste.
A chance to bleed this tiny witch dry.
As long as they brought back it’s body at the very least…
The witch sniffled, once, twice before pressing the back of it’s little hand up to its nose.
Sasuke paused, brows furrowing, red eyes narrowing. Maybe he was imagining it but this crazy witch sounded like a woman on the verge of tears.
The games never stopped.
They’d use any tool at their disposal to achieve their agenda.
Irritation rose swiftly, “spare me the false tears,” he snapped, “even if they were real, I have no sympathy for your kind. You’re wasting both our time.”
The witch twitched, sniffled again and finally shined light on what was truly happening.
“Ah…ah….ahchoo!” it sneezed, jolting the world around them in the process.
Sasuke weaved on unsteady legs, his keen senses thrown for a loop, a sensation encompassing his skin, akin to….
Jelly.
The forest floor beneath his feet disappeared, gravity shifted and he began to fall. Whipping his leather wings out, he caught himself, catching a stray current and ascending upwards from the pit below. Confusion bloomed, his red eyes shifting around the barren wasteland, trying to make sense of where the hell he was.
Gnarled trees in various states of decay dotted the dying land, their skinny trunks twisted and bent, the soil below a sickly gray with small patches of brown blades of grass clinging to existence.
The giant hole he’d flown out of was spiked at the bottom, long rocks that looked like they were carved into points by nature.
Even the sky was affected by its dour surroundings.
He couldn’t see the stars or moons beyond the thick, bloody fog. It was stagnant, heavy and fixed, it didn’t move, didn’t flow, merely laid eerily atop the air. Something one only experienced within a zombie den, but there was no sign of the undead anywhere. Dismissing the strange land, he looked for the witch instead, flying around the area for several minutes, peering into holes but found no trace of it. There was nowhere for it to hide except in the pits. The land was flat, trees too brittle and thin to provide cover.
The witch was gone.
Shit.
“Sasuke!”
He turned. A scratched up Sakura was carrying his blonde lover, her taloned feet attached to his shoulders, her pink wings flapping with ease despite the heavy burden she carried.
“Where the hell are we?” she questioned, stopping next to him, coasting the air as he was.
He looked around again. There more pits than the one he’d flown out of, hundreds as far as the eye could see, all spaced out and in no particular formation that he could tell.
“I don’t know,” he answered.
“What’s going on?” Naruto grumbled, wiping his eyes, “can’t see shit.”
“The witch teleported us somewhere,” Sakura explained.
“What’s it look like?”
“Pits, lots and lots of pits with spikes at the bottom, um, dead trees and gray dirt, and-”
“Undead fog sittin on top of shit?”
“Yeah.”
“We’re probably near Iwa,” the fox grunted, “there was a zombie horde threating a village and they were short on shinobi capable of handling the situation so Kakashi-sensei sent me out to help them fight. They dug out these pits but the horde never showed up. The fog just kinda stayed, ‘ttebayo.”
“That’s good news at least, we’re only a day out from home,” Sakura noted.
Technically less than that, but traveling with a vampire required the trio to seek shelter during the day. Spring was nearing, gradually lengthening daylight hours, they’d be waiting a good eleven hours before nightfall.
Judging the laden heaviness in his bones, Sasuke surmised sunrise to be three hours off.
They needed to cover as much ground as possible before he had to sleep.
“Any sign of the witch? Did it come with us?”
Sasuke shrugged, “it was gone when I came to my senses, I don’t know if it came with us.”
“Shit. Naruto’s nose is jacked up, he won’t be able to track it even if it’s hiding out around here. We should head back to Konoha then, report what happened to Kakashi-sensei, we’re gonna need to find shelter though.”
“There’s a town I know of, we can stop there way before sunrise.”
“And here I thought the witch had made you totally useless,” the pinkette teased.
“Lemme go,” he growled, “let Sasuke carry me and don’t you dare-”
She dropped him.
Sasuke sighed, then dove down for his foul mouthed lover cursing at the smug Fury watching his descent.
