Warmth of His Arms
"That concludes the meeting," Shikamaru announced, gathering the papers.
"Thank you for your guidance," Mother said, smiling demurely like she always did when a meeting with the council ended.
Sasuke kept it at a short nod, only his strict upbringing keeping him from sighing aloud and rubbing his temples. Council meetings were never his favourite part of the week, but as a prince he had no choice but to attend them. Even though he was the youngest son and would most likely never take over the throne from his father, the King still insisted that both his sons attended the meetings.
Sasuke supposed father meant it as a precaution, in case something would happen to both him and Itachi, but that did not make the meetings any more bearable. Most of the council members were unbearable, thinking they always knew better than anyone else, subtly trying to push their opinion onto the King. Shikamaru was the only member who knew his place and who considered every angle of an issue instead of having a narrow mind. If the gods had any mercy, they would see to it that Itachi would accept Shikamaru as his main advisor and none of the others.
"Will you be retreating to your quarters, my dear?" Mother asked softly, catching his attention while father dismissed the last council members.
"Later, I need to clear my head first," he replied vaguely and rose up, offering a polite bow to his father when the man briefly turned his head.
"All right, I will see you at dinner," she smiled and if she had any clue as to where he would be going to clear his head, she didn't let on for which he was grateful.
Because he wasn't exactly proud of where he was going, but he could not stop himself either.
They called it the Comfort Quarters.
The quarters were found in the southern part of the castle and consisted out of several cosy chambers where the Omega girls and boys resided. They had arrived at the castle either after being rescued from less than pleasant places or they had offered their services themselves, wanting the prestige associated with being considered an Omega of the royal family.
Sasuke had never liked that part of the castle. A lot of the Omega there were too nice, too willing to throw themselves at anyone who showed them even the slightest bit of attention. While they might officially be known to give comfort, everyone old enough and with some knowledge of life knew that this comfort was mainly given by spreading their legs. As long as they belonged to the royal family, they didn't care who crawled into their beds, happy to serve whoever.
Sasuke had been introduced to the Comfort Quarters a week after he had turned eighteen, having been given permission to visit them whenever he wanted. Officially the permission would last until he would wed, but even marriage didn't stop some members of the household and they frequently bedded the Omega even when having been married for years already.
The youngest prince, however, never had had any interest in the Omega, not seeing the point in getting involved with someone who couldn't promise him fidelity and who would easily smile sweetly at him as they would smile at the lowest ranked cook in the household.
So he had ignored the Quarters for months, not deigning the Omega worthy of a glance whenever he encountered them in the corridors, unwilling to give them false hope. He knew they were hoping to bed him, desiring to be the one who could call themselves the Prince's Omega. Any Omega succeeding in bedding a member of the royal family would be considered the highest ranked one of them all and so they tried to seduce him whenever they caught themselves alone with Sasuke.
Every Omega, except for one.
He was a young man, hair a golden blond like the strands had been dipped in sunlight, and eyes a brighter blue than the brightest sapphire Sasuke had ever witnessed. They glistened like the stars during the night and were as mysterious as the back side of the moon. He had a slender build, slightly curvy around the hips and buttocks area, and his skin was a beautiful bronze colour during the long hot summer months.
His name was Uzumaki Naruto and he had been found by one of the army captains, Gaara. The Omega had been abused nearly his entire life after an accident caused scars on his cheeks. His adoptive parents – he had never known his birth parents as they had passed away from a disease shortly after his birth – had been furious about the accident, not because it had harmed their son, because in their eyes it had ruined all his chances to be chosen by the royal family.
After all, who wanted a scarred Omega? Omega were supposed to be pretty, they were supposed to be demure and sweet and perfect, knowing what to say and how to say it, knowing how to please their partner. An Omega with scars couldn't be considered pretty, was no longer perfect. Naruto wasn't demure or quiet, but abrasive and loud, unwilling to back down when he thought injustice was happening.
His adoptive parents had tried to beat his energetic spirit out of him, had tried to break him into a thousand pieces for not being who they had wanted him to be.
Gaara had been passing through the village, returning from a solo mission, when he had come across the scene of Naruto being lacerated with a whip in the garden of the couple while the man had shouted at him for daring to feed a stray fox.
Unfortunately for the man, Gaara was not like all the other villagers who were more than willing to turn a blind eye to the abuse. He had got off his horse, had marched straight into the garden and had taken the whip away from the man before the latter could even blink. Just as quick as the man had been with the whip, just as quick had Gaara been to use it on him, letting him feel the full brunt of his anger and disgust.
When he had been finished, leaving the man whimpering and crying in pain while his wife fretted in the doorway, unwilling to come forwards just in case Gaara would turn onto her next, Gaara had taken off his cloak, had wrapped it around a trembling Naruto and had guided him onto his horse, promising he would never have to face another day of fear and pain again.
Once back at the castle, Gaara had called his sister down, asking her to take care of Naruto, who by that point had been swaying on his feet from the pain. The captain had then gone straight to the throne hall, informing the King and Queen about the new arrival as was the rule when new Omega were brought into the household.
Naruto had been left alone for weeks while his injuries healed and the other Omega brought him up to speed with what would be expected of him now that he was part of the royal household.
Unlike the other Omega, however, Naruto had no interest in throwing himself at the feet of the first person showing him a bit of attention. Perhaps it was because of his scars, the abuse he'd suffered under for years, making him incapable of thinking he was desirable. Perhaps he simply did not like that his status as an Omega implied that he was only meant to offer comfort. Perhaps he simply was not interested at all.
Whichever it was, it had him hiding out in his personal chamber whenever someone from the household walked into the Comfort Quarters. It had him lashing out the two times a man had forgotten the cardinal rule that no Omega would be forced to bed someone. They might be living in the Comfort Quarters, yes, but by no means were they forced to offer any services if they did not desire to do so. It was one of the reasons why so many Omega were eager to become a part of the Uchiha royal family, because they were one of the few kingdoms where an Omega would not be forced to do anything against their will.
Naruto might be living in the Comfort Quarters now, but by no means was he willing to entertain anyone.
Then, on a dreary afternoon in September he and Sasuke had met right in front of the main library.
He had been in a foul temper that day, Sasuke remembered as he walked through the long, winding corridors, exchanging nods with the staff members he encountered. He had been accosted by one of the Omega outside in the garden, a pink haired girl named Haruno Sakura. She seemed to have got it into her head that one day Sasuke would choose her and make her his bride and tried to attract his attention whenever their paths crossed.
She had been particularly insistent that day and in fit of anger Sasuke had stormed back inside, desperate to retreat to a quiet place where nobody would dare to disturb him. His feet had brought him to the main library and right as he had opened the door, he had nearly walked straight into someone. It had been right when the blond man had been stumbling back in surprise that Sasuke had caught a whiff of his scent, the sweet undertone of it betraying that the man in front of him was an Omega.
That realisation had had the prince stiffening, already preparing himself to reject an Omega once again, when the Omega had flushed and bent his head, murmuring an apology before he'd hastily walked away, his arms clenched around a book he'd borrowed from the library.
The unexpected reaction was what initially had piqued Sasuke's interest, he could easily admit now. All the other Omega constantly attempted to catch his attention, gain his interest in order to climb up in the ranks.
Not Naruto, however.
Oh, the man was infallibly polite every time their paths crossed, bowing and respectful of Sasuke's personal space. He never tried to touch Sasuke, however, never tried to initiate a contact or a conversation that might be considered to be daring. He talked with Sasuke like one would talk to a friend, albeit with the necessary distance and politeness that came with the territory of conversing with a prince.
It was when they started talking more often, meeting up in the library to discuss books, meeting in the garden where Naruto would listen to him ranting about the boring meetings and the council members who were too full of themselves before he would distract him with a well timed joke, that Sasuke realised that he was starting to feel more for the Omega than just a general fondness or the type of tolerance that he brought up around the council members and some of his more distant family members.
The first time he'd entered Naruto's personal chamber had been during one particular night in December, when everyone else had already been asleep.
"I did not expect to see you here, my Prince," Naruto murmured, his voice floating over to Sasuke from somewhere in the darkness. There was the hissing of a match being struck, a small flame coming to life before it started greedily eating away at the single candle on the nightstand, illuminating Naruto's face vaguely as he sat up in bed.
"How did you know who I was?" Sasuke inquired, closing the door behind him before their conversation could awaken someone.
The blond smiled amused. "After all these months, I have come to recognise your footsteps. That does not explain why you are here, at this time of the night. I do not think you visit these quarters regularly – as I'm often being told by the others." There was a hint of exasperation in his voice and Sasuke could only imagine the countless number of times the other Omega had been complaining about not being seen to by anyone of the royal family.
"I normally do not," Sasuke admitted easily and slowly stepped closer to the bed, watching Naruto for any sign that he might not want him here. "But I found myself restless tonight."
"And so you have come here." Naruto tilted his head to the left and something shuttered close on his face. "What do you seek, my Prince? Comfort?" His mouth twisted ugly at this word; his fingers almost imperceptibly clenching into his sheets.
"I've told you to call me Sasuke when we're alone," Sasuke chided him gently and halted at the foot end of his bed. "You are not kicking me out," he observed.
"I might not be the brightest of the bunch, but even I can discern who I can kick out and who not without having to face any type of consequences," Naruto replied with a cynic smile.
The smile, so wrong on Naruto's face when Sasuke had become used to his joyful and mischievous smiles, twisted something in Sasuke's chest. "You will never have to face any consequences for kicking me out," he stated, resting his hands on the bed. "The rules are for everyone, including my family. Do you want me to leave?"
"Why are you here?"
Not a direct dismissal. "I found myself longing to be in your company," Sasuke readily admitted. "If it is all right with you, I would like to hold you in my arms tonight."
Naruto rose up on his knees, leaning forwards slightly. "Is this some kind of euphemism they have not told me about yet?" he asked, partly confused and partly warily.
"No euphemism. I really just want to hold you in my arms, that is all. If you don't wish me to do that, I will take my leave, no harm done."
Blue eyes gazed at him unreadably for a while before the Omega finally stirred and broke the silence. "You are a peculiar man, Sasuke." He laid back down then and drew the covers partly away. "But I have nothing against it. If you want to hold me, feel free to do so."
"Thank you," Sasuke murmured and blew out the candle before he fully climbed into the bed, lying down right behind Naruto.
Slowly, carefully, he wrapped his arms around the younger man and drew him close to him, his chest moulded to his back, their legs entwined. When he inhaled next, he smelt the orange scent that always seemed to cling to Naruto, as if he bathed in a bath of oranges every day.
Naruto was strangely relaxed against him, one of his hands coming up to curl around Sasuke's wrist, trapping the appendage against his chest where Sasuke could feel his heart thumping if he concentrated.
"You normally don't allow anyone to visit you," he couldn't stop himself from pointing out. "What's so different about me?" He had been fully prepared to be thrown out by the blond man, having heard from the gossipers that even after a year of living here, Naruto had yet to bed anyone.
"The same reason why you come to me and not to someone else," Naruto whispered in the darkness.
Proving that he was much brighter than he himself claimed to be.
It had become routine by now, seeing Naruto at least once a day, spending the night with him at least twice a week if Sasuke's schedule allowed it. Whenever everything became too much, when he felt like his head would explode and tension might never leave his body again, he only knew one person who could help him.
Who would welcome him with open arms and no expectations whatsoever.
A blue eye cracked open when Sasuke closed the door behind him, shutting out the chattering and gossiping of the other Omega in the quarters.
"The meeting finished early," Naruto murmured sleepily, humming when Sasuke slipped behind him in the bed, immediately drawing him into his arms.
"Hm, that's because Shikamaru took the lead today fortunately," Sasuke sighed and smiled when Naruto turned around in his hold and curled up against him. "You're in bed early. Or do you still have yet to leave it in the first place?"
"Do not nag me about it," Naruto pouted, lifting his head to look at him. "I was more enamoured with the book you gave me than I had expected and I fell asleep a lot later than intended," he smiled sheepishly.
Sasuke chuckled and pressed a soft kiss on his forehead. "Itachi was so gracious to take over the meeting tomorrow. What do you say if you and me go out for a ride tomorrow? If the weather permits it, we can have lunch in the forest, in that clearing you adore."
Blue eyes widened. "You mean it? You would really take me out?" Naruto asked astonished, his lips remaining parted in shock.
"Of course I will. You are mine as I am yours, remember?" Sasuke reminded him, drawing his hand down Naruto's back. "I do not speak words I don't mean and you are far from a passing fancy to me."
"Well, I would love to go to the forest with you tomorrow," Naruto murmured and when he leant forwards next, their mouths met in a sweet kiss and arms wrapped around Sasuke's shoulders, warmth seeping through his clothes.
No, Sasuke had never been interested in the Comfort Quarters, preferring to stay away from it entirely. One Omega, however, saw him returning to these quarters again and again, seeking comfort in his arms, knowing that he held his heart as much as Naruto held his.
Soon there would be no need anymore to meet up in these quarters, Sasuke promised silently as he flipped the both of them around, settling between Naruto's legs, smiling when he laughed.
Soon they would be out in the open and Sasuke would get to proudly introduce Naruto officially as his to his parents and his brother.
Soon things would change.
For now he was more than happy enough to remain sequestered away in this bedroom, sharing kisses with the man he loved.
The End
AN2: I might return to this universe, because a vague idea is brewing in my mind. Unless you all think this one is too random or weird, in which case, well can't exactly blame you *clears throat* I don't know what I was thinking, honestly, just that it wouldn't leave me alone.
Please leave your thoughts behind in a review; should you spot any mistakes, please point them out to me.
I hope to see you all back in my future stories! (Which should be less weird). Please stay safe and take care of yourselves!
