Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or One Piece, nor the characters from either fandom. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Note: This is a re-write of a fic I wrote a couple years ago, under a different account...which I lost the information for. I figured I’ll use this account for it, because why not.
A few of you will recognize it, it was called “Hello, Hello,” from a former account of mine (LadyInRed).

001. Mistakes
“Run away with me.”
Hinata blinked awake at the cracked ceiling above her, her eyes wide and teary, and her hands clasped over her stomach. Trembling, she closed her eyes again. She focused on finding the voice again, of finding the owner of the voice, the memories—memories of hot nights, soft kisses, secrets and promises exchanged in the dark.
Clenching her hands, Hinata tried to seek out the memory, wanting to change the outcome that came from her refusal.
002. Heartfelt
The first time Hinata met the Straw Hats was while she worked at one of her many and easily accessible jobs, nearly six months after she’d run from Konoha. They were laughing and eating, loudly celebrating one of their recent victories, it seemed.
Even thought she took great care to keep herself far from them, Hinata couldn’t help but keep looking back at the Straw Hats. It was hard not to. Their reputation was becoming well known throughout the seas, especially now that their bounties had increased. That wasn’t why Hinata kept looking back, however.
Hinata watched how each crew member interacted—how they all exchanged smiles, laughter, and even playful banter (though Zoro and Sanji seemed go a little too far with theirs...)—how they all gave off this air of friendship and love...
Once again, Hinata clenched her hands and turned around to check back on a customer, her mouth formed into a bitter frown.
003. Fading Away
Her dreams were often haunted with the ghosts of her past: friends turning their backs on her (even her own teammates), her village throwing accusations that cut into her person, Naruto glaring down at her like she was trash and spitting out the last words he ever said to her—
“Don’t even look at me.”
—But as hurtful as those nightmares were, nothing made her heart burst more than seeing the slowly fading image of Sakura, who smiled at her and held her face like she was something precious, looking lovely even with blood flowing from her lips.
004. Spirit
Traveling aimlessly quickly became as emotionally draining as it was physical. Between the running, the occasional fighting against Marines and bounty hunters, and all her sleeping (and other health) issues, Hinata often found herself on the verge of giving up. Because, really, what was the point of even fighting anymore?
But even on nights when Hinata contemplated just giving up, she knew that ultimately, she wanted to live; she just needed to figure out how.
And that was why she started taking up meditation—to remind herself of the chakra that flowed through her, around her, the energy that made the world turn, made the universe keep going (some argued)—and that helped lighten the load on her being.
005. Choose
“Run away with me,” was whispered as pale hands cupped her face, as soft lips kissed hers once more. “Let’s just grab a boat, and sail away from this damn village. Start a new life on some island somewhere, together.”
Hinata stared, her heart jolting. It was so tempting to do it. To just leave everything behind and start fresh—away from their war torn country, away from Naruto, away from judging families, especially with her current partner—but the more Hinata thought about it, the more it felt like running away. While she knew she likely wasn’t needed by anyone, she still felt responsible—for her family, for her work at Konoha Academy, even for Naruto (who was in a delicate state as is)—and for herself.
And so, even as she laced her fingers with her lover, Hinata shook her head. “I’m sorry, as much as I want to, I can’t. My place...I still want to try and make a life here.”
006. Sword
“...So, how about it, Kunoichi,” Zoro said with a challenging smirk. “Let’s see which is superior: my swords, or your jutsu.”
Hinata knew it would be a bad idea. After all, this was no ordinary man—this was Roronoa Zoro. Bounty hunter, first mate, and the closest thing to a demon that was a part of the Straw Hat crew; he was no man to trifle with, not if you value your life.
Still, she couldn’t deny the rush that flowed through her at the challenge. It had been so long since she’d sparred with anyone, other than a tree, or a dummy. And while she knew that she will absolutely lose, the thought of fighting, of doing something to release the tension that had been raging inside her, even from her very bones—
With gleaming eyes and chakra burning through her, Hinata stood from her table and faced Zoro.
007. Open Your Eyes
“...Do you think we did the right thing?”
Shino looked back at Kiba, who had a conflicted expression on his face, but refused to show any of the feelings raging through his head.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
Kiba finally turned to him with a half-hearted scowl. “You know what I mean.”
He stared up at his teammate, who he’d long considered a comrade, even if he was still so fucking blind to the obvious. Then he stared back over the cliff that overlooked Konoha, a village that was changing before their eyes, faster than they could process.
“...What does it matter now,” he said, finally, allowing some of his regret to bleed through. “She’s likely dead by now anyway.”
008. Electrify
Hinata had long thought that romantic love was supposed to be like electricity, sparks that flew between lovers and fueled their passions. That’s how it’d been like with Naruto, and he’d said as much to her—but she soon learned that he seemed to feel that “spark” with every girl he encountered and added to his string of lovers.
And Hinata tolerated it, because surely her love for him was enough to endure anything, right? Surely it was enough to be happy with this, to be satisfied with this relationship that she had to share with so many others.
So, imagine her surprise when she first laced her fingers with Sakura while they were alone in bed, when she found that love didn’t have to be a fall into fire, but a simple step into an adventure.
009. Starlight
“...They were wrong.”
Hinata looked up at the mysterious chef who’d not only cooked her the best meal she’d had in forever, but had also spun out of the kitchen in a hurricane of hearts and praise for her beauty , and was shocked to find the soft smile on his face. His only showing eye—blue, like the ocean—gleamed down at her like he held a secret.
“The wanted posters,” Sanji continued with a smile that warmed Hinata’s heart, despite herself. “They described your eyes wrong. They aren’t like lavenders at all.”
010. Sacrifice
The plan hadn’t been to kill Sakura, or even to leave Hinata as the patsy for it—honestly, under different circumstances, Naruto would have been the right choice for that—but every great movement called for a blood sacrifice.
