• ‘What?! I have to go on a mission with him?!’
  Naruto was summoned to the Hokages office that morning, to find the Kazekage there with the old hag. She told him he has to escort the young redhead while he is visiting some villages in the country of the Wind.
  ‘Yes, you have. He is going on a diplomatic mission around the villages to ensure everyone in the country of the Wind knows the hidden Sand and Leaf are allies now. It’s already been a while since this alliance started, but it’s not well known or accepted yet. As proof of this alliance we send a Leaf ninja to escort the Kazekage. In the same times I, as Hokage, will go to some places in the country of Fire to do the same. Gaara’s sister, Temari, will be escorting me,’ Tsunade explains.
  ‘But why me? Why not send a Jonin like Kakashi sensei or someone smart like Shikamaru.’
  ‘Kakashi is on a mission and Shikamaru will be joining me. Not that we don’t trust Temari’s skills as a ninja,’ she says with a glance to the Kazekage,’ but because Shizune doesn’t trust me going without an advisor. And you have been on more missions to the Sand lately, right? So you know Gaara and the Sand.’ With a sigh she sits back on her chair.
  ‘But there are still more Jonin here, I’m still a Genin’ the yellow haired says, scratching the back of his head. It’s not like he doesn’t want to go on a mission with Gaara and it’s true he knows him better than the others, but that’s the point. Lately he has been send to the Sand a lot for missions. He guesses because others still don’t like to deal with the former Jinchuriki of the one tails and Naruto being a Jinchuriki they send him. He doesn’t mind, he knows better than to just see the demon Gaara ones was. Somethimes after missions they would spar or train together, or just sit on a roof watching the stars. The young shinobi has been looking forward more and more to the visiting the Sand, but not only because he likes sparring with the sand shinobi. Lately he just wanted to see the other man. Even now, as he steals a glance at him, his heart begins to race. Not knowing what to do with this emotion, he gets a little awkward.
  ‘That doesn’t matter, the Kazekage asked for you himself,’ Tsunade stated and Naruto looks up, bewilderd.
  ‘Huh, you asked for me?’ he asks Gaara. The boy had been sitting, staring out of the window the whole time. Now he stands up and looks at Naruto.
  ‘Yes, I did,’ he says calmly as he walks over to Naruto.
  ‘Thank you for the cooperation Hokage. We have to leave now. Watch out for my sister,’ he says with a polite bow. Then he starts walking out of the office.
  ‘Same to you, Kazekage. And Naruto, behave!’ She screams after them as Naruto follows Gaara. Without saying a word the two men walk out of the Hokages building, when they step outside Gaara suddenly turns to Naruto.
  ‘If you really hate the idea of going on this mission with me, I can go back and ask for someone else,’ he says, looking Naruto in his eyes. Does he see a hint of… sadness in those green eyes? Naruto askes himself and he is taken aback by it.
  ‘Huh oh no, I didn’t mean it like that. I just…’ He couldn’t find the right thing to say, being looked at like that. He averts his eyes and scratches his head awkwardly.
  ‘Alright. Want to eat something before we leave?’ Hearing the word ‘eat’ Naruto immediately jumps up.
  ‘Lets get some Ichiraku ramen!’ He jumps happily up and down until Gaara nods with a small smile. Naruto’s cheeks turn slightly red at that sight and he quickly starts walking, so the other shinobi wouldn’t see it.
