Title: Unraveling at the Seams
Summary: Little Hinata would always trip up and stumble, until one day she took a really long tumble. Falling down to the bottom and into a box, it is there that she meets a mischievous fox. Consumed by a twisted hunger she cried in despair, until soon her own inhibitions dispersed into thin air. Neh…are you awake now Hinata-chan?
Disclaimer/Author's Note: I don't own Naruto or Tokyo Ghoul, because let's be honest. If I owned either of these two series, Naruto would've turned out waaaaay differently and Kaneki would be somewhere safe and sound away from anything that could harm him. (◡‿◡✿) Of course seeing as he's not even going to be showing up in this fic (along with the other canon characters of TG)…he's safe in a way.
Chapter One – Has to be a Dream
"If you are trying to fool a farsighted or dimwitted person, a veiled facial disguise might be enough."
― Lemony Snicket
Uzumaki Naruto was beautiful.
This was an undeniable fact for anyone who met the young man, and who inevitably came to see that he was literally a personification of sunshine and happiness. But no one believed this more than one Hyūga Hinata. While there was many things she would lose at – more things than she could bear to count – her admiration of the blond boy was something she knew was unmatched by anyone.
It is only the thought of being able to watch her classmate that gave her the strength to get out of bed and out of her apartment to face the cruel world every day. Just the chance of her being able to see the wide grin on his face, which caused him to squint– making him look like a kitsune, Hinata noticed with adoration – or to hear him laugh brazenly without fear…
Naruto just gave her life some kind of meaning.
Sitting on the bench outside of the fenced in basketball courts on her college campus, the girl followed his every movement with her pale, pupil-less lavender eyes. In her slender fingers was a single graphite pencil that seemed to dance across the page of her sketchpad. Anyone walking who would bothered to look at her work, would've been astounded by the pure detail in her drawings.
But if they had managed to see the rest, they would've found it a little unnerving as to how many sketches of a single subject filled the pages. That single subject being the blond who was currently trouncing the others on the basketball court.
Cheers broke out from one team on the court as the golden-haired boy jumped high above the heads of their competition, and promptly slammed the basketball through the hoop. The sunlight fell down upon him and was angled in such a way that it seemed as if there was a golden halo that lined his tanned frame. Sweat beads that clung to his toned upper body seemed to almost sparkle, each droplet drawing her attention to his defined body. As he landed on the ground before bringing his arms up to run both of his hands through his hair, which only caused her heart speed up exponentially.
Around him the guys were either cheering at their victory or clapping the blond on his shoulder in congratulations. Naruto only grinned widely with them, and proclaimed that he was available for a rematch any time. This prompted the others to surround him and chat about other things, and a few even threw invitations to hang out or eat. All the while, the blond just snickered and grinned widely as he responded.
Unlike her, the boy of her dreams thrived in the spotlight.
Everything about him was loud and grabbed your attention, from his physical features to the pure confidence that seemed to ooze from every pore on his body.
"Great job, Uzumaki!" one of the guys standing around him laughed while clapping a hand on his shoulder. Another walked up and wrapped his arm around Naruto's neck and pulled him in for a noogie.
All this, Hinata watched with happiness bursting in her chest at watching the blond interact with those around him in such a way.
It was no surprise to her at all that like the flowers turned towards the sun, everyone would gravitate to him.
"Naruto-kun…" she breathed wistfully, wishing that she had the confidence to go and personally congratulate him on winning the game. If there was anything that she wanted to change, it would be her shyness, which always kept her from going through with any idea of possibly interacting with the boy she liked.
Fear of rejection being a major concern. She could take rejection, she was used to it. She was rejected by her own family, and others around her never truly tried to befriend her. Not sincerely anyway.
So how would Naruto, a veritable GOD in human form, ever end up falling for someone like her?
Sadly, any thought to actually go through with her train of thought was abruptly cut off as squeals erupted from a bit behind her. Hunching her shoulders slightly in reflex, she glanced back over her should, and a look of dismay grew on her face at the sight that met her eyes.
A bit away from her spot on the bench, there were a group of familiar girls, whose very presence killed any thought of trying to catch her inspiration's attention. There were a group of girls standing there, with one in particular who stood out in front of them. Her name was Nanase Ami; someone who was considered to be the most desirable girl to walk the campus.
That of course, wasn't something that Hinata cared very much for. No, what she didn't really feel comfortable with is the fact that Ami was a very well-known pursuer of the campus's personal "sunshine", Uzumaki Naruto.
'But that doesn't matter, Naruto-kun has never shown much interest in her beyond the friendliness he extends to everyone he meets…' Hinata mused, forcing her body to calm down though she didn't stop gripping the graphite pencil and the edge of her sketchbook tightly.
While Hinata never bore ill will against others, Ami was someone that she could admit to disliking quite a bit. The dark-haired was a bully, plain and simple, who had no qualms with getting rid of her competitors in the pursuit of Naruto. Any girl, who had shown outward interest in the blond, would usually find themselves being tormented by her and her followers.
Thankfully, being as unnoticeable as she was, Hinata had been able to escape the other girl's scrutiny.
Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for any other girl. Even those in Ami's group weren't safe.
"Naruto-kun~" Hinata resisted the urge to shudder in disgust at the sound of the blond's name from the other girl's mouth.
She could only watch as the girls approached the boys coming out from court. She bit her lip while clenching onto the pencil and pad in her hands as Ami leaned forward, most likely asking the blond out on a date. In fact, she bit her lip hard enough to draw blood, causing her to flinch at the pain she felt. A small whimper welled up in her throat as she sucked on her lip in an attempt to stop the blood flow.
"I'm sorry but I can't go this time guys, I've got to do something while I still have the nerve for it-ttebayo!" the blond's voice was close now, closer than it was a few moments ago. Wanting to know what exactly Naruto was going to do, Hinata released her lip and look up just in time for her eyes lock with the blue eyes peering out of a face that was near her own.
Realizing this, Hinata couldn't stop her face from turning tomato red.
There he was!
Standing in front of her!
Looking right at her!
Her of all people!
"Eep!" the shriek leapt from her mouth before she could stop it, and without a thought she shot up to her feet. Unfortunately, due to how close the blond was her head and rammed right underneath his chin. Hinata's grip on her sketchbook loosened and she heard it fall to the ground along with her graphite pencil.
The two of them cried out in pain as Hinata cradled her head and Naruto his chin. Behind them the guys, who were playing basketball laughed hysterically at what took place. Besides them, the girls were another story and were hissing insults at the completely frazzled dark-haired girl.
Once the pain subsided, Hinata realizing that she had hurt Naruto took a step back (almost falling back over the bench, but managed to catch herself) before bowing at the waist.
"I-I-I-I-I'm!" a sudden chuckle from the boy in front of her caused her to freeze along with all others standing in the area. Every eye latched onto the laughing boy, whom wrapped his arms around his midsection. Her heart was beating rapidly as she was gifted with the sight and sound of his laughter. Even if he was laughing at her, she didn't mind.
If something she did could cause him to react like this, then she wouldn't mind doing it for the rest of her life.
Finally after a few minutes, his laughter subsided and he brought a hand up to brush away the tears at the corner of his eye. He turned his bright blue eyes at her, and tilted his head to the side.
"Ha, I thought you were a bit weird since you had been doing nothing but watching me this whole time, but you're actually pretty funny!" at his first admission had caused Hinata to slump in sadness. To think that Naruto had found her weird was heartbreaking, but she had immediately straightened at what he said after.
"A-Ah! Really?" she asked, hopeful lavender eyes dropped down to the ground as a small smile blossomed on her lips. Pressing her forefingers together, she looked up and her heart stopped as she made eye contact with him.
She really couldn't believe that this was happening!
It had to be a dream!
"What do you think about going with me to Kamui later on this weekend?
Just after nodding, Hinata felt her heart give out and her eyes rolled into the back of her head as she fainted. She didn't hear the concerned words from the boy in front of her, or even those around her.
All she could think about was the fact that Naruto had come to her and ask her out.
She was so happy…so happy that she could die right now with no regrets.
Thinking back on it now, Hinata wondered if that had been for the best.
Yeah, so after a bit of debate, I decided that I would post another story here on . I'm a person that is works on stories based on my muse and mood, that or if something is interesting enough to keep my attention and imagination lit. This story in particular is an idea that I will frequently be working on, especially since I have a general idea on how this story will possibly end. Even the pairings have pretty much been decided on. Hopefully you'll enjoy this story, and all the twists I hope will interest you readers.
