The day was bright as white fluffy clouds rolled overhead, not thick enough to block out the sun. Lazy rays hit the earth, warming it as various animals decided to bathe themselves in the sunlight in the dead of winter. The hot spring water was lapping at the sandy shore, the ripples long and wide as they faded into the land as smoke rose from the heated pool. It was a perfect day to just laze around in the water and watch the animals of the forest parade around in the snow that had fallen overnight.

The scenery was beautiful and Naruto could not help but admire it as he stripped his clothes. He was a child of the sun and so he craved the rays that heated his skin. During the winter, it was harder to bathe naked in the sun when the winds were tearing at his body and brushing against his bones. Naruto hated the furs he had to wear, but since he was only half god, he had to wrap himself up.

Dipping a toe into the hot water, Naruto grinned as he felt the familiar hot rush of water against his skin. Slipping into the water, he let the hot waves surround his body as he relaxed. His muscles went slack as he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. The sounds of nature around him had him dozing lightly as it was a comfort.

Naruto had grown up in the wilderness, a child abandoned by his village once his mother had passed away. He had been raised by a skulk of foxes, the great demon Kurama taking him in and treating him like her own son. Her fury at what had been done to a child of a god knew no bounds and she trampled the village, decimating it with her nine tails. The survivors had spread horror stories of the great fox demon who had attacked their village for no reason other than bloodthirst.

But no one had been able to find her, Kurama was as elusive as a snake, always disappearing when someone had caught sight of her red fur. She had raised Naruto to be a survivor and learn how to survive should they ever be separated. He was an odd being, Naruto had always been aware of that since he was a child. When he was old enough to know who his father was, he only cried as he realized that he was not wanted by either man nor gods. He was only a faceless child among many of the sun god. But he had his mother and that was all that mattered. And growing up, it had helped to have such a fierce mother. Naruto had grown into a beauty that shone like the sun, his golden skin seemed to have a shine of it’s own that lit up the area around him.

Naruto had attracted many interested individuals but he had shot every one of them down. He wanted a mate, but only one who didn’t desire his body or his blood. It was irritating that he was only being paid attention to because he had grown up into someone who was beautiful. There were times he desperately wished he were a human. The brightness he owned as a demi-god was irritating and only served to attract those who thought he had treasures.

Water demons weren’t meant to be seen. It was a vital part of their culture as they controlled the many faces of their element. There were the few rare demons that were sealed within crystals, their chakra separated from their physical body and placed within a separate jewel.

Kisame had been lucky these past few decades, having eluded the humans for a good fifty years. He hardly left the water of the springs, preferring to live there away from prying eyes and keep the balance of nature. Every now and again some poor soul would drown in one of the many small pools because of negligence. Those days were somewhat pleasant when Death visited and they were able to talk.

Itachi was a young Death and his company was preferable to that of one of the other envoys of the Death God, Yahiko. They had struck up an amiable friendship when Itachi had visited the first time and Kisame was craving some sort of conversation. The other male was skeptical of the water demon, but Deaths were just as distrusted and feared as demons. Itachi understood the kind of life Kisame led in the hot springs, so if he had to cart a soul to the afterlife who had lived nearby, he would stop in.
