Summary: Naruto is a junky--not to drugs but to the bite of vampires. He sells his blood as a way to alleviate the addiction until he meets Itachi Uchiha. Soon, it is only the bite of Itachi that he longs for.

Addicted To The Bite

Naruto groaned and leaned against the wall of a dark and dank alleyway. His hands were beginning to shake and his eyes were having difficulty focusing on the world around him. It was not the first, and probably not the last time he would go through withdrawal. This time was different--so very different.

In the world, there were many types of addictions to be had. Alcohol, cigarettes, sex, drugs, and…vampires. The bite of a vampire was just as addicting, perhaps even more so than all other addictions combined. One bite could tie your body into an exotic knot of feelings. The pleasure and pain of the experience were more addicting than any other sensation known in the world.

Naruto licked his dry lips and groaned low in his throat. A rocket of pain worked through him and forced him to bite the fleshy portion of his palm to stem the agony. It would pass in a few moments and allow him a short respite in which to seek out the bite his body needed. He was a junky just as much so as any drug user, and now he paid the price for attempting to leave this life.

Surviving the withdrawal of a vampire addiction was painfully difficult. The only successful treatment was to be weaned from the need, and even then, it did nothing for the psychological need. Years of therapy had only a minimal success rate when it came to vampire addiction. The longer the addiction, the excruciatingly more difficult it was to become freed from the invisible binds. Few could resist the siren call of milky white fangs sinking deep into flesh for very long, and Naruto was no different.

For Naruto, it began as survival. Vampires paid well for live blood donors. The risks of the bite were explained by the bite brokers, but it meant little to Naruto at the time. Survival was the only thing rushing through his mind. One bite would feed him for a month. His hope was to use the money to get back on his feet. He assumed one bite would not addict him.

How naïve and foolish he was. All it took was one bite. One small bite followed by several minutes of gentle sucking and he was hopelessly addicted. It was nearly to the point he would have paid to have them bite him instead of the other way around.

Feeling the waves of pain flowing across his nerve endings finally ebb to a dull throb, he pushed away from the wall and stumbled down the street to blood bar he knew. It was in a bit of the seedier part of town, but in his state, beggars could not be choosers. This was the punishment for attempting to stop taking the bites cold turkey. He should have known better.

Mournful notes of a song spilled out of the bar, filling the nearby air with soulful notes. Perhaps on some degree, the universe mourned along with Naruto for the knowledge of what he was about to do. It knew of his plight, and his weakness.

Pushing the glass door inward, Naruto shuddered at the sudden chill gripping his stomach. The presence of vampires always had that affect. Perhaps it was the flight instinct in the presence of a predator, because vampires were just that--predators.

"Been a while."

Naruto's bloodshot eyes shifted to the redhead leaning against the wall as he fully entered the bar. "Gaara."

The name was more a curse than an acknowledgement. Once he might have looked fondly at the other, but no more. He could barely even lift his gaze to him. Gaara was partly the reason he was in such a state. His contract with Gaara was void after he was nearly drained as Gaara attempted to turn Naruto. If not for Gaara's sister, Temari's intervention, he might have succeeded.

"Feeling the shakes?" purred Gaara. A pale, luminous hand extended in offering to Naruto. "I can help. I know what you like."

Oh, the temptation of such an offer. In his state, he nearly embraced that proposition. Just this once he could put aside his distaste and allow Gaara to ease his suffering as he had done in the past.

He could…but wouldn't. "No. I'll look elsewhere."

Gaara's creamy aqua eyes narrowed and a sense of malice replaced the calm exterior. "And if I don't want you to look elsewhere?"

Naruto felt a sense of panic nearly overwhelm him. His eyes widened visibly and his heart began a rapid staccato in his chest. Perhaps he had pushed his luck too far and his life would end tonight at the hands of a former lover. His life seemed so short when he thought on it. At twenty-four, he was now going to die.

"Leave him be, Gaara."

Warmth, and a surprising sense of ease, poured through him. The never ending lust for a bite was diminished under the power of the rich, harmonic voice. Naruto's eyes jerked wildly, searching for the origin of the voice. He wanted its warmth again.

Gaara's eyes went livid and he directed a hiss towards a shadowed portion of the club. "He's mine!"

Another voice, this one several octaves deeper growled. "Dare you dispute my brother's position? Such words are worthy of being staked out to burn."

Gaara's creamy skin paled several shades and his eyes lost their bloodlust, though not their anger. "No…my lord."

"That's enough, Sasuke."

A shudder worked through Gaara's frame. His gaze shifted from the direction of the shadows and back to Naruto. "This isn't over between us."

Naruto swayed where he stood, his knees finally giving out and gravity sending him crashing to the dirty floor. He could see his dirt encrusted nails digging faint furrows into the wooden flooring as another wave of need crashed over him. Withholding the pain filled groan was impossible as he doubled over in agony. It had never been this bad. Had he waited too long to seek out respite?

The sound of low spoken whispers reached his ears moments before a body stepped from the shadows and stood over Naruto with a look of distaste spread across his features. He was beautiful as all vampires were. Creamy, pale skin was highlighted by dark, wispy hair spiked outward. His lip curled in disdain, the only thing marring the eternal perfection.

"What a worthless moron." The deep rumble alerted Naruto to which voice this vampire was in possession of.

"Sasuke," murmured the Voice. "Bring him here."

Sasuke growled low in his throat and lifted Naruto from the ground, forced to completely support him as small, jerk-like trembles rocked his body. Any struggles he might have attempted were diminished in his desperately withdrawn state. All he could do was hang limply as he was half carried, half dragged, and thrown to the ground before a polished pair of black shoes.

"Sasuke," reprimanded the Voice. "You should treat people better."

"I'll try and remember that."

The shadows still hid the man with the rich voice he was quickly becoming addicted to. All Naruto could tell was that he was dressed in a black suit with a tie the color of fresh blood. Blood red eyes peered down at him through the darkness, the shadows completely hiding his features.

"You need a bite."

It was not a question, but a statement. Naruto's symptoms were hard not to see, and for a vampire, the smell was a telling sign that it was not drugs causing his state. He was in the latter stages of bite withdrawal and if not bitten soon, his heart would be unable to sustain him under the stress.

"Come." A long slender hand extended to Naruto, graced by only a single ornate ring. "I will ease you."

"Itachi," hissed Sasuke. "You don't know where he has been."

If Naruto was in any state of mind, he might have taken offense to the tone used. As it were, he was unable to fight the allure of the mysterious Itachi. The absolute promise in his voice was enough to broker no refusal from Naruto.

"He is not an animal, Sasuke," purred Itachi.

Cool fingers danced along Naruto's chest and down the flesh of his arm. The sleeves were unbuttoned, and scabbed and healing bite marks were revealed along with the scars of other much older marks.

Itachi hissed low in his throat, his eyes flashing in the shadows. "Gaara."

Sasuke's eyes widened at the display of brutality along Naruto's arms. "Son of a bitch."

"Language, Sasuke," purred Itachi as he raised Naruto's arm and pressed his lips to the bend of his elbow. "Do you give your blood freely?"

A warm tongue darted from the cool lips and swiped at the sensitive flesh at the bend of Naruto's arm. He released a moan and shuddered at the warm promise it brought. His body began quaking and he was forced to bite harshly at his lip to keep from pleading.

He could feel a smile against his flesh. Sharp, white fangs caught the gleam of light and flashed dangerously. They were dragged across his skin in a teasing manner, not breaking the skin, merely running across the overly sensitive bite area.

Shocks of pleasure jolted up Naruto's spine and a low whimper escaped despite his most stringent attempts to withhold such sounds. His body was going to expire under the pleasure rushing through his system. Never had he anticipated a bite as much as this one. He couldn't see Itachi's face, but the crimson, glowing eyes held much promise in them.

"Please," he whispered.

Itachi seemed to sense Naruto's desperation was at a peak and decided to ease his suffering. Teeth sunk deep into the bend of his arm, expertly piercing a pulsing vein. Warmth flooded outward and into the waiting mouth.

A scream exploded from Naruto before he could stifle it. His body rocked and undulated against his savior. Pleasure unlike any he had ever known poured through his veins. A headier sense of completion spilled through him with such a force, he very nearly pulled away from the saving lips drawing blood from his body.

Naruto shifted from his kneeling position, moving closer. Heat flooded his body in cresting waves, each bigger than the last. Arousal was a side effect of a bite and generally ignored except between lovers. This bite was no different except that Naruto was spiraling even more wildly in the pleasure than ever before. What would have normally been an annoying but manageable erection was now a flaming hardness he was hardly able to bear.

His body moved of its own accord so that he pressed even more closely to the leg before him. Against his will, his hips pressed forward against the shin and his face was buried into a thigh. He screamed again, this time into the material as the teeth were extracted from his flesh, only to sink in once again slightly further down his arm.

No bite had ever had this affect on him and he found his dick pulsing as cum spewed from its tip and into his jeans, flooding his bloodstream with endorphins. He was screaming, moaning, and crying at the same time. He hadn't realized that his teeth had sunk into the flesh of the thigh beneath his face until the taste of wool graced his tongue. An equally pleasure filled groan erupted from Itachi and for a faint instant, fingers tightened in a painful grip where they were latched onto Naruto's arm.

Naruto felt light headed, and collapsed against the now warm body of Itachi--his savior. If not for strong arms wrapping around him, he would have landed face first on the floor and not cared an ounce. The relief he felt was sweet.

His arm was pulled out once more. Lips and a warm tongue began to stroke at the scarred flesh, beginning at the wrist and working upward toward the more recent bite. The will to fight the attention was beyond him. If this vampire wished to drain him, Naruto was quite sure he would bare every bite area for his pleasure. He could die happy under the teeth of this vampire.

"Itachi?" Sasuke's eyes narrowed on the attention being given to the wounds.

A deep and regretful sigh escaped Itachi as he finally sat back. "Sasuke, will you see him home? I do not want him accosted in such a state. I took more than was necessary."

"You bit him twice," hissed Sasuke under his breath, Naruto being too far gone to question the comment.

"Do as I order, Sasuke."

Itachi scooped his arm under Naruto's knees and lifted him effortlessly into his arms before passing him to Sasuke. "And see that some food is waiting for him. He is far to undernourished."

Sasuke accepted the limp body without a word. His eyes narrowed on the dazed, sleepy face before rolling his eyes and flickering from the bar.

Itachi stumbled slightly, collapsing gracefully into his chair. A hand clenched on the chair arm and a low moan escaped his throat. His tongue darted out to flick over the remaining drops of blood staining his lips.

"Delicious," he whispered to no one.

Naruto's eyes popped open, and he was instantly blinded by the light filtering directly across his face. Groaning in the back of his throat, he rolled over and attempted to return to the blessedly dreamless sleep. His head felt as if it was submerged in a tank of water. Then, reality returned.

His eyes flashed open and a loud gasp erupted from him as the memories of the previous night exploded in his brain. He could still feel the bite--the feel of teeth and the draining sensation. Immediately, he pulled up the sleeve of his shirt to reveal the fresh marks.

Vampire bites took longer to heal than a normal injury. Something in vampire saliva was similar to that of the vampire bat. It prevented clotting temporarily and slowed the healing process. Sometimes, he thought it was merely a sign of their arrogance.

Flopping back on his bed with a heavy sigh, his fingers traced the tender flesh. Instantly a wave of lust rippled through him. His dick flooded with blood and pressed painfully against the dirty interior of his jeans.

"Fuck me," he groaned as he recalled coming in his pants at the bite. That had definitely never happened before.

He rubbed a hand over his eyes. Who was that man...Itachi? Even Gaara seemed cowed by him--a state he had never seen Gaara in.

"Who the hell was he?" muttered Naruto as he rolled off the bed and onto the floor, unable to bring his legs into appropriate function.

Crawling on his hands and knees, he prayed he had remembered to buy at least a few groceries. As he reached the small kitchen area, his eyes alighted on a large glass bakery display container filled with several sorts of decadent looking pastries. He knew he hadn't bought that.

A small bit of white paper fluttered on the table as he inched nervously towards the sweets. His stomach urged him almost relentlessly towards the nourishment, his natural wariness the only thing holding him back.

His eyes darted to the hastily scrawled writing.

More in the refrigerator. Eat.

Naruto's eye twitched at the order, but curiosity had him opening the white box. His eyes nearly bugged out at the packed interior. He was certain his fridge had never been so full. An entire rotisserie chicken sat in a container along with several packages of deli meats and cheeses. Raw and cooked vegetables were piled high along with several containers of pasta and various sauces. Eggs, milk, and juice completed the array of food.

"Holy shit! They're trying to fatten me up for the slaughter."

Instantly, Naruto's eyes dropped to his arm and the two freshest bites. He could almost feel lips pressing to the flesh, sucking his body dry. The wayward thoughts had his pants growing tight once more.

He recalled his shameful display of humping the vampire's leg and eventually coming in his pants. "Mother fucker."

His nose wrinkled and though he felt all the more disgusted at his current state, food was more important. He grabbed the chicken, some deli meat, cheese, milk, and bread. He knew from experience that the protein would help him more than the pasta or pastries. Those would be saved for later.

With forced slowness, he began to eat. By the time he finished, he had eaten half the chicken along with two sandwiches and an entire quart of milk. The pleasant fullness brought on a sleepy sense of satisfaction. Next on the agenda was cleaning the dried cum from his body.

He tossed his dirty clothes in the hamper and immediate stepped under the spray of the shower without waiting for the water to warm. A yelp escaped as he shivered beneath the deluge of cold water. Gradually, warmth took over and he began to relax beneath the heated spray.

As he returned to his bedroom after the bath, a quick glance at the alarm clock showed it nearing four in the afternoon. He had slept most of the day away. After being drained to the point of passing out, it wasn't surprising and reminded him to increase his fluid intake today so that he could be ready when the urges for another bite reappeared. He had maybe two or three days before the antsy desires would begin causing his attention span to diminish.

He rubbed a hand through his wet hair and slumped to the bed. Disgust at himself worked through his mind. He should have been able to resist the urge. There were a few programs set up to help people addicted to the bite, but it was well known few of them worked with any sort of success. Once bitten, a person was addicted for life. Fighting it only resulted in the state he had been during the previous night.

If he was smart, he could hold off the urges for a week without anything more than mental torment. The physical symptoms did not come into affect until around day 8 or 9.

Had it really been only ten days since he had escaped Gaara? Naruto shuddered and wrapped his body in a robe. Judging from how he felt, he could donate again in another two or three days.

He hated using more than one vampire. It made him feel used, like a prostitute. Finding a benefactor might turn out more difficult than he liked. Gaara held a lot of power in the city and had visibly marked Naruto violently.

Naruto had heard in passing from the vampires that the secret world of the vampires was divided into a hierarchy of sorts with a prince arranged at the top. A few select lieutenants controlled large areas of the world which could encompass several large cities in their domain. Each city was held in trust by a sentinel. All answered to the prince.

Though no one ever said, he suspected Gaara was a sentinel of the city. That put him in a position of power that nearly cowed Naruto. It made him wonder if the vampire last night might have been a lieutenant. The power he exuded was definitely awe creating now that Naruto had the mindset to think on it.

He lay on the bed, his eyes staring blankly at the bare wall of his bedroom. Would he ever meet his savior again? If he passed him on the street, he wouldn't know it as he had never seen his face, only his eyes--deep, blood red eyes.

Naruto's fingers tapped nervously at the kitchen table. He had been feeling the rise of need for the past three days. He had maybe a day or two before the more painful symptoms began to raise their head. Still, he was finding it difficult to leave and seek out a new benefactor.

"Damn it!" he shouted. "Just get up off your ass and go get your fucking fix."

The thought of another's teeth sinking into him had his stomach nearly upchucking the bit of pasta he had downed. It had never been this bad. Even when he was solely with Gaara, he had never felt completely bound to him. If need be, he could have allowed others to bite him easily, but now, the thought of any teeth but those of his mysterious Itachi caused him to become physically ill.

He was nearly to the point of tears over his situation when a knock sounded on his door. As tempting as it was to ignore it, the knocking only became even more insistent as the minutes ticked by.

"I can smell you in there. Stop being a moron and open the door before I break it down."

The voice was deep and familiar. Naruto remembered that voice. It was the companion of his savior. The name escaped him, but he was certain it was him.

Naruto was on his feet and wrenching open the door without an instant passing. The slender man was only a few inches shorter than himself with stylishly spiked dark hair and strangely luminous, dark eyes. His skin was so pale; thin, blue veins were visible in his face and hands.

"What my brother sees in you, I don't know." A hand reached out and latched onto Naruto's shirt. "But he could smell your need from miles away. Geez, you are an idiot to keep waiting so long."

"What?" Naruto struggled futilely against the grip pulling him from his apartment. "What do you mean waiting?"

"To go find someone to bite you." Sasuke glanced at the scars mottling Naruto's arms. "You're not new to the world. Why are you waiting?"

Naruto jerked his shirt form Sasuke's hand. "I'm not telling you anything."

Sasuke rolled his eyes and clasped a hand around Naruto's wrist. "Fine. I don't give a fuck, but you're coming to Itachi because your need is messing with his head."

At the mention of seeing Itachi, Naruto immediately ceased his struggles and followed quickly behind Sasuke to the waiting car. While vampires could move with a preternatural speed, when traveling with humans, they generally preferred the use of vehicles. Traveling at such speeds generally caused humans to become sick or pass into unconsciousness.

Naruto slid quietly into the car, watching cautiously as Sasuke took a seat beside him. He did not even have to tell the driver to go. The car began moving the instant the door closed with a snap.

Shifting nervously on his seat, Naruto glanced at Sasuke from the corner of his eye. Though his face maintained a neutral expression, he could see muted fire glistening in the dark eyes. The pale skin pulled tight across high cheekbone was perfection and the slightly fuller lower lip glistened with a pink tone. The familiar coldness pooled in the pit of his stomach as he continued to stare. There was no doubting Sasuke was a vampire.

"I can feel your eyes on me. Stop it." Dark eyes shifted to Naruto. "I can't be the only vampire you've sat with for any length of time."

"Sorry," mumbled Naruto. "I didn't know vampires came in the dick variety."

Dark eyes flashed before a hand sudden latched onto Naruto's chin and shoved his head back to bare his unmarked throat. A long cool tongue flicked across the surface, stopping just below Naruto's ear. Teeth were drug across the flesh just short of breaking the skin. "If it wasn't for Itachi having made a claim to you, I would show you just how much a dick I could be."

The familiar heat that usually came with the feel of teeth was surprisingly absent. Instead, a sense of disgust worked through his abdomen and Naruto began to struggle against the hands holding him. Panic scented his blood, and his struggles intensified.

"Jeez." Sasuke pushed away and returned to his seat. "I wasn’t going to hurt you."

Naruto lifted a hand to his throat while attempting to calm his rushing heartbeat. Everything was fine. Sasuke wasn't going to bite him.

The car pulled before the largest, most expensive hotel in the town. A doorman immediately moved to open Sasuke door without even being instructed to do so.

"Mr. Uchiha, welcome back."

Sasuke ignored the man and tugged Naruto from the vehicle. His hand remained latched around Naruto's wrist as they moved through the lobby and towards the waiting elevator. The elevator operator stiffed to complete attention and immediately sent the elevator rising to the top floor.

Naruto had little time become accustomed to his surroundings before he was tugged into a large ornate hallway and through several sets of double doors. His gaze darted around at the expensive luxury.

"Here he is. Good riddance." Sasuke swung Naruto around his body and sent him skidding across the polished floor only to trip across the edge of the Persian rug and fall haphazardly before a figure seated in a wing back chair.

"Sasuke," reprimanded the seated vampire. "Do you have to be so rough?"

Sasuke huffed and turned on his heel. "I'm going to find something to bite. Being around him has suddenly made me very hungry."

Naruto's eyes darted from Sasuke's retreating form to the seated man--Itachi. If not for his voice, he might not have recognized him. With the lamp beside him on and a bound book cradled between long, slender hands, he gave off a sophisticated aura. The glowing red of his eyes was the only thing Naruto remembered, and the healed bites on his arm began to throb.

The book was set aside and Itachi leaned forward so that his deep set eyes framed with thick black lashes were even with Naruto's gaze. "Why have you waited?"

Itachi's fingers lifted and traced down Naruto's cheek before tucking beneath his chin. "I can feel your suffering as if it was my own."

Naruto opened his mouth, only to snap it closed. He wanted to scream out that he wanted him to be his benefactor--that he wanted to only be bitten by him. His tongue darted out and moistened his suddenly dry lips.

Curiously red eyes blinked slowly. "Tell me why you willingly suffer?"

"I only want your bite," blurted out Naruto before he could censor himself. "Shit. I mean--"

Itachi's eyes widened faintly before he sighed. "I see."

The lean hand released Naruto's jaw, and Itachi stood in a single graceful motion. "I don't keep those I drink from. It is dangerous to become attached to one so fragile. If one is to survive the ages, becoming attached to humans could mean disaster."

Naruto bit back a whimper of disappointment. "I can't…stand the bite of another."

A tapered brow rose delicately. "Interesting. Are you so sure? Have you tried?"

"The other guy…Sasuke…he tried."

The curious interest immediately transformed to acute jealousy. Itachi had Naruto on his feet and was immediately examining Naruto's arms. "Not there."

Itachi's gaze jerked to Naruto's face and then to his neck. With his powerful eyes, he could see the slight reddening of skin where Sasuke's teeth had grazed. A long, low growl erupted from the back of his throat.

"He knows better."

"He didn't bite me," gasped Naruto, his eyes rolling back in his head at the feel of Itachi pressed so close. "Just licked me, but I couldn't stand it. If I had asked, I think he would have bitten me…I just couldn't."

Itachi said nothing, only lowered his face to the hollow just below Naruto's jaw. His body shifted as he breathed in deeply of the flesh. The thumb of one hand stroked over the flesh before the nail sliced shallowly into the skin, causing a droplet of blood to ooze slowly down Naruto's neck.

The little pain caused Naruto to jerk and whine even as his blood heated. The feel of a surprisingly warm tongue swiping up to follow the trail of blood back to the source sent a thrill through him. Lips fastened onto the tiny nick and began to suck gently. It didn't offer the same high as a bite, but instead created a slow burn, almost a promise of things to come.

"Do you know why we only use the arms to feed upon?" whispered Itachi against the flesh of Naruto's neck.

Naruto shook his head, unable to verbally answer the question under the sensory assault he was undergoing. His mind could barely compute what was being said to him. Itachi's voice held that ring of subtle power that hypnotized him.

Itachi pulled back though his thumb continued to stroke the now bruised flesh. "The neck is considered a sacred part of the body. It is reserved for those willing to bind themselves to another. To bite that sacred area without emotion is taboo."

Itachi's tongue slid up the length of Naruto's throat once more, and his neck muscles lost all strength, falling back to further bare himself. His hands latched onto Itachi's arms and his fingers dug into the expensive material of his shirt. His body was poised in excitement for the bite he so longed for.

"Yet," purred Itachi into the warm flesh of Naruto's neck. "I find myself wanting to feed from your neck regardless of the taboo."

Naruto's heart began to thrum relentlessly in both his chest and groin. "Please," he whined. "I want to be yours."

Itachi jerked as if shocked and pulled away. If not for his grip on Naruto's shoulder, Naruto would have melted to the floor. "You don't know what you are saying."

Itachi's gaze became hard and he twisted Naruto so that his back was pressed against Itachi's hard chest. The sleeve of his shirt was pushed up to bare the well used flesh. There was little preamble before startling white teeth sunk deeply into the flesh.

Naruto screamed out at the pleasure of teeth sinking into the flesh of his arm. It was a familiar sensation, and yet it held so much more. Heat built in his blood; what was not drawn to his arm pooled relentlessly in his loins.

"Itachi," whined Naruto. "Please."

Itachi pulled away from Naruto's arm, causing a low moan of disappoint to escape panting lips. "You tempt me," he growled.

Itachi growled before latching his lips and fangs, slightly further down Naruto's arm. His teeth sunk deep and almost violently, slightly tearing the flesh of Naruto's arm, not that Naruto cared. The pleasure far outweighed the pain of the action.

A cool, slender hand worked down Naruto's chest and abdomen until it reached the loose waist of his lounge pants. Fingers slid beneath the loose cotton and to Naruto's lower region.

Naruto's breath stuttered in his throat. "Please."

Itachi's breath panted in his throat as his lips withdrew from Naruto's arm. His fingers questing beneath Naruto's pants wrapped around the hard shaft growing from a thatch of blond curls. It was loaded with what looked like everything on the room service menu. Hamburgers, steak, chicken, pasta, and a variety of desserts were laid out for Naruto's pleasure.

"Were you guys planning on joining me?" he asked, his voice sounding crackly and dry as he attempted a joke.

Itachi poured a large glass of water and handed it to Naruto as he sat in a chair. "I was not sure what you liked."

He glanced to Sasuke. "We have never eaten human food."

"You weren't human at one point?" asked Naruto with a frown. "That was one reason why I left Gaara. He tried to turn me without asking."

Itachi's face grew hard and his nails scratched deep furrows into the wooden arms of his chair. "Did he?"

Sasuke placed a hand on Itachi's shoulder before settling in a chair at the table. He wrinkled his nose at the food before speaking. "You could consider those who are created to be half-breeds."

Naruto's face crinkled in concentration. "So that would make you full vampires?"

Itachi hummed in acknowledgement. "Females who are born vampires are able to reproduce, though usually only once every several hundred years."

"Itachi was almost five hundred before I was born," interjected Sasuke.

"Females who are created from humans are sterile, as are men. You could also consider those of full blood to be a sort of nobility amongst our kind."

Naruto stuffed nearly an entire roll in his mouth as he digested what was being told him. "I heard talk of a prince. So you guys are like dukes or something?"

"Or something," murmured Itachi. "Nothing you need to worry on."

There was a lapse in conversation. Naruto pushed some of his steak around his plate. "So…I was wondering…would you be my benefactor?"

Itachi's brow rose. "I thought we had this discussion. It is too dangerous for me to show too much attention to anyone. Sasuke can care for himself but you--"

Naruto felt the food in his mouth turn to ash. "Oh."

"I am sorry," murmured Itachi. "It is better for you if you are not seen with us again. You should find a…benefactor, if you wish, within the next week."

Naruto swallowed the lump of food in his mouth and pushed away from the table. "Can you take me home? I don't have any money on me for a cab."

A flash of something flickered in Itachi's eyes before he stood and moved to the dark window. "Dawn will come soon. Sasuke will arrange transportation."

Naruto's gaze remained lowered. "I'll be going then."

Itachi flinched as the door closed behind the two.

Naruto shivered as he stepped into the broker's office. It seemed like forever since he had visited the man. He had always liked him even if at times he seemed more like a pimp than a broker.

"Naruto?" The secretary seated at the desk perked up upon seeing Naruto. She was on her feet with her arms wrapped around Naruto's neck in an instant. "We haven’t heard from you in so long."

He chuckled a bit and embraced her warmly. "Sorry about that, Sakura. I had a long term arrangement for a while."

"Jiraiya will be happy to see you. He talks about you from time to time."

Naruto's smile widened. "Is the old pervert in or should I come back?"

She returned Naruto's smile. "For you, he is in."

She did not even have to buzz her boss. Moments later, the large door opened and a large, white haired middle aged man stepped from the inner office. "Naruto! I thought I heard your voice."

Naruto allowed himself to be pulled into a warm embrace. He had missed the sense of family he felt with these people. "Would you mind letting go? You're stronger than your age belies."

Jiraiya smacked Naruto on the head before releasing him and leading him back into his office. "You look good, kid. What can I do for you?"

"I was wondering…if you could broker me someone…until I can find a long term benefactor." He mentally flinched and his stomach clenched sickly in his abdomen.

"Hmm, I probably can." Jiraiya looked over Naruto. "You look healthy enough. Bare the arms and let me check you out."

This time, Naruto visibly flinched, removed his jacket, and rolled up his sleeves to reveal the abused arms. The sight of them caused Jiraiya to pale before flushing angrily. "Who the hell did this to you?"

Naruto swallowed visibly. "It doesn't matter. I got away from him."

"Doesn't matter?" Jiraiya grabbed Naruto's arm and brandished the marks. "Vampires like beautiful things. No decent bloodsucker is going to want to pay to bite your arms when they look like a dog used them for a chew toy."

"Jiraiya, I've only got two or three days before the shakes start. I need something."

Jiraiya ran a hand through his hair. "There was a vamp in here the other day looking for someone willing to offer up their neck. It's rare for such a thing, but if you are willing to bare your neck for one, I can set something up."

Naruto could recall what Itachi told him about the neck being sacred. Since his time with them, he had begun to think of his neck as belonging to Itachi, even if the other did not feel the same.

"Is that all you have?" he whispered.

"I know it can be a little more dangerous, but I can tell you up front, with your arms in that state, it's all I would be able to get you."

Blue eyes drifted downward. "I guess that's that."

"What's wrong with neck biting? The girl I sent to them last week said it was fine."

Naruto shook his head. "My neck is reserved."

"Eh?"

"Nothing. I know a couple of places I can get a bite. I'll figure out what to do later."

Jiraiya looked unsure. "You know, Naru. It probably wouldn't be a long term fix for you, but you could always try to get clean. I know a few programs that have had some breakthroughs with the addiction. It might help for a while."

Naruto smiled at Jiraiya. "If you had asked me that two weeks ago, I would have taken you up on the offer no questions asked…but now, I don't want to be clean."

He did not speak as he turned from the office and with a jaunty wave, exited, speaking a goodbye to Sakura as he left. As he rounded the corner he stopped and jerked up his sleeves to stare at his arms. The marks made by Itachi were nearly gone, leaving only the brutalization left by Gaara. "Damn you, Gaara."

He shoved his hands into his pockets and made his way down to a less appetizing part of town. Before he realized, he was standing before the blood bar where he first encountered Itachi. It was a futile hope, but he hoped he would come upon Itachi again.

It was still early in the evening, barely an hour past sun down. The bar was mostly empty. It would be another hour or two before it filled with vampires and humans alike.

"What can I do for you, lad?" asked the bartender in a jovial voice.

Naruto cleared his throat. "I want to donate."

"The pay is only a sandwich and juice afterwards. You fine with that?"

"It's fine," murmured Naruto. "I just need to get bit and I don’t have time to find a broker."

The bartender shrugged and gestured for Naruto to go stand with the group of men and women on the stage. He hoped he would be picked quickly so he could go home and attempt to make it through the next week. The last one had been hell.

A female vampire approached the stage and stopped before Naruto. Her eyes were a crystalline blue, the only pleasant feature about her. She appeared gaunt and her clothes barely fit her. Through everything, he forgot that vampires who took blood without permission were taken before the sentinel, judged, and then executed before the rise of the next moon. It was taken seriously by all and those who could not afford to pay the brokers could find meals on those who were homeless or ill at bars such as the one Naruto now stood in. A free meal was a welcome thing to a homeless man or woman, especially when they were too unappealing for brokers to work with.

"Would you come with me?" she asked.

Naruto nodded slowly and allowed her cold hand to wrap tightly around his wrist. She half dragged him across the room and into the shadows. Her grip bordered on painful and would likely leave a bruise the following day.

Although his body craved a bite, it also revolted at the thought of being bitten by her. Bile was already rising in his throat as they moved to a nearby corner. She waited impatiently as Naruto unbuttoned his shirt and rolled up his sleeve.

She did not bat a lash at the scarred state of his arm, but immediately took his forearm in her bruising grasp. He felt her lips brush the skin of his wrist, precisely over the spot Itachi had last fed from. He could feel the teasing brush of her teeth and nearly vomited on the spot.

"Do you give freely?" she asked.

Naruto's body began shaking and he jerked on his arm. He couldn't. If Itachi didn't want him, then he would die. "I can't…I'm…sorry."

Immediately, she released his arm as if burned. Her eyes flashed dangerously and her teeth bared before she left him standing there and moved to the stage to choose another.

Naruto slumped against the wall, his heart pounding so painful in his chest, he feared it might explode. He stumbled from the wall and towards the exit. If he was going to die going through withdrawals, he wanted to be in his home.

Stepping into the brisk air, he froze upon seeing Itachi across the street, his high end suit and jacket looking out of place in the lower class neighborhood. Naruto stumbled across the road, not bothering to look. The headlights heading towards him gave him a moment's pause and he knew his life was over. He heard the skidding of breaks, but did not feel the pain of collision.

Wind rustled around him as strong arms embraced him. He could feel the puffs of Itachi's breaths against his ear. The only sound was the pounding of his heart.

"I am beginning to think Sasuke is right about you," whispered Itachi. "Why did you walk out into the street?"

"Because you were there," whimpered Naruto.

Itachi sighed and traced his finger over Naruto's cheek. "It was still very foolish of you. I prefer you alive."

"You came for me?" whispered Naruto against Itachi's chest.

"I felt your pain. It seems I can do nothing but seek you out. I felt your desire to die and it wounded me." Itachi pulled back to stare into Naruto's eyes. "I find myself focusing on you more than is healthy. If you are unafraid to remain with me, then you are a worthy consort for a prince."

"Prince?" Naruto's eyes grew wide. "You're the prince?"

Itachi's head inclined. "Since the death of my father."

Naruto was about to speak when a painful contraction rocked his body. He bit his lower lip to keep from crying out. Apparently the withdrawal symptoms were worse after being bit by Itachi. He should have had another day or two before they became painful.

Red eyes narrowed on Naruto. "You need a bite."

Itachi urged Naruto into the car and followed him inside. He was surprised at how short the drive to the hotel was. Soon, they were entering the now familiar suite of rooms.

Itachi chuckled. His fingers moved to the remainder of buttons and slowly freed them from their slots until the shirt hung open. Fingers danced over the expanse of Naruto's chest and abdomen before sliding the ruined shirt from his body.

Instead of biting him, Itachi urged Naruto towards the bed. Laying him upon the cool satin, he straddled Naruto's body while shedding his own jacket and shirt. Pristine skin was revealed to Naruto. It caught the gleam of the moonlight and seemed to glow with an ethereal light.

Naruto could not stop his hands from moving to the skin, touching and stroking it. It felt like living satin beneath the pads of his fingers.
