Hello everyone. Been a while since i have posted here. Anyway.. I have crossposted this story on FF.net. It will eventually end up on my livejournal page... once I figure out how to use it. So, this is a tester chapter... see how you like it. Let me know, ok? Ja Ne Anubis
"Where the hell is that bastard?" Naruto grumbled, as he cleaned his kunai, "He never shows up on time when I actually need to talk to him!" He continued to clean his weapons, looking out of his apartment's windows impatiently. At nearly 19 years old, Naruto had grown into himself. He was now as tall as his best friend, plus a few pounds on him. Sasuke had returned to the village two years earlier, claiming he had done what he needed to do. Though, Naruto wasn't sure what exactly Sasuke had done. There have been no reports of Itachi's death. Getting up, the blonde paced in front of the window, getting more aggravated with each passing minute. He glanced at the clock and frowned. Sasuke wasn't even late yet. "Damnit!" "What is wrong with you, dobe?" Naruto jumped at the bored tones of his friend. "Ahh!," he yelped, "Oh, you're here, good." Sasuke was standing in the doorway. "Whatever it is you are thinking about, it made you even stupider than normal." Naruto glared at him and huffed. "Well, I just found out from Hinata that the Elder Council is trying to get you to marry her," he said, "They are arguing with Hiashi Hyuuga right now." Sasuke paled. "Damnit," he muttered, "I thought we got this taken care of." The glare continued and Sasuke glared back. "It's not like I want to marry her," he snapped, "Let's go and get this taken care of, shit, this is not something I wanted to deal with right after a mission." "You think I like it?" Naruto said, "Hinata is freaking out because her dad said she could choose who she marries." The Uchiha laughed. "Yeah, everyone wants to get in my pants, huh?" "Fuck off." Tsunade sat in the council room, glaring at the elders. "We discussed this already," she said, "Hiashi has made arrangements for his daughter to marry, Sasuke has made his thoughts clear on this as well." One of the older council members glanced at Tsunade. "We believe we will have a way to get Sasuke to bend to our will," he said, "However, Hiashi must agree to this." Hiashi shook his head. "Hinata has much improved these past few years," he said, "I am doing what every good father would do, making sure his daughter is happy." "What about that Haruno girl?" another elder asked, "She seems to adore Sasuke." A few nodded. "That would be a good second choice." Hiashi frowned. "Do you think it wise to force a former missing nin to marry?" he asked, "Sasuke came back on his own, for whatever reason, I don't think he should be pushed too far." Tsunade gave the Hyuuga leader a look of thanks. "I agree with Hiashi," she said, "I am sure that Sasuke will marry on his own time." "No, I don't think he will, we have reports that he is involved, but, no word on who…" "So?" The elder opened her mouth to answer, but was cut off by the door slamming open. "I am NOT marrying a Hyuuga!" Sasuke strode into the room, followed by Naruto. He nodded to Hiashi and Tsunade. "I thought we had taken care of this," he said, "That it was agreed I wouldn't have to marry, period." Tsunade nodded. "It was agreed, until Hiashi made a comment that he was ready for his oldest to get married," she said, "However, what they failed to hear after that, is that he was wanting to let her chose her husband." The council stared at the Hokage and Hyuuga clan head. "You never mentioned this….it may work to our advantage," One said. Sasuke rolled his eyes and looked at Naruto. The blonde was laughing hard, barely keeping himself upright. "They are getting senile," he chortled, "Don't hold it against them Sasuke." The Uchiha sighed. "More's the pity," he said, "However, I am not getting married anytime soon, I have no plans on spawning more Sharingan users for you to exploit." Hiashi, who had remained quiet, stood. "Sasuke, I do hope that you do not hold this against the Hyuuga clan," he said, "Because Hinata would hate to lose you as a friend." Sasuke looked at the older man, shocked. "Really, she considers me a friend?" "Of course, any friend of Naruto's is a friend of hers." A polite bow of his head and Sasuke turned back to the council. "I am going to take my leave now," he said, "I just got back from a month long mission yesterday and I would like to rest." One of the younger members leaned forward. "What do you normally do on these longer missions, Sasuke?" "I believe that the Lady Hokage can tell you the details," Sasuke said, "I turned in my reports and they have been corroborated by my team members… why, are you insinuating that I may be doing something wrong?" "Not at all." "Good," Sasuke said coolly, "I will take my leave." He turned sharply and left the room, Naruto following behind. The blonde was still laughing silently. Most of the occupants visibly relaxed, not realizing that the Uchiha's presence was that powerful until he left. Tsunade stood and gave a shallow nod. "We will discuss this later," she said, Hiashi smiled. "Thank you, Lady Hokage," he said, "I do appreciate this." Naruto followed Sasuke. "Hey, thanks man." The raven shrugged and continued to walk. "I can't get married," he said, "At all, there is something I still have to do… I have someone I have to help." "Who?" "You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Sasuke said, "Anyway, this person vanished a few months ago and I have been trying to find him, hence, the longer missions." "Does Tsunade know who this person is?" "Yes, kind of," Sasuke said, then stopped. Naruto grunted as he ran into his friend. "What?" "I think I will need your help," he answered, "Come to my place for dinner." The blonde eagerly agreed. "What are you having?" Sasuke shrugged. "Not sure yet," he said, "Just not ramen." Pouting, the blonde agreed. "I will be over in about an hour then," he said, "I want to see Hinata first." The Uchiha waved him away and continued to his apartment. When he got inside, he stripped off his clothes, leaving a trail of them from the main room all the way to his bedroom. Falling onto his bed, he closed his eyes, just to rest for a moment. He could feel the chill of the outside in his bones as he got up from the bed and got the fire going again. Looking back at his bed, his companion was buried under the blankets, trying to stay warm. "Are you that cold?" No answer, only movement of the blankets. Sasuke sighed and crawled back into the bed. He pulled the smaller body to his own. "Come here, love," he said, "Let me warm you." "Sasuke…." Sasuke heard his name, the voice soft and cultured "Sasuke!" He heard it again, this time, loud and abrasive. "What the hell do you want, dobe?" "You don't remember inviting me for dinner?" Sasuke shook his head and sat up. "Yeah, sorry, I fell asleep." Naruto grinned. "No worries, I brought food anyway," he said, "Let's eat and then you can tell me what is going on." Black eyes focused on the bag the blond held out. "What is in it?" he asked cautiously. "Eh, Hinata made it," Naruto said, "So, a surprise." Sasuke grinned. "Good," he said, "Better than ramen." He could feel the glare before he saw it. If looks could kill, Sasuke would be nothing but dust right then. Ignoring the deadly look, he got out of bed, not caring that he was nude in front of his friend and proceeded to dress. He then gestured for Naruto to follow him to the kitchen and began to pull out bowls and cups. "Naruto, I do hope that whatever I am about to tell you doesn't affect our friendship." "Unless you are going to defect again, I don't think much could." Sasuke sighed in relief. "Not really," he said, "However, what I tell you may actually violate a law set by the 3rd Hokage, but, we can cross that bridge later." He set two bowls on the small table, followed by utensils and cups. The older man was tense, unsure of how to say what he needed to. Naruto shook his head and grabbed Sasuke's hand. "We eat first, right?" "Yeah." They are in silence, enjoying the simple meal Hinata made for them. Naruto saw Sasuke check the windows a few times, apparently trying to hide the fact that he was doing it. When he finished his portion, he put the bowl down and took Sasuke's, which had barely been touched. "Tell me." Sasuke took a deep breath. "The council made a comment, that it was rumored that I am involved… well, it is true and now, they know who it is," he said, "This person disappeared about 2 months ago, from their home in the Land of Waves, so I believe they know about us…. I think they are the ones who took him." Naruto cocked his head. "Him?" Sasuke smirked, shaking his head. "Before I tell you about him, let me explain something about the Uchiha and Hyuuga clans," he said, "Our kekkei genkai are both related to the Rinnengan, both an altered form, …to have developed as they did, demonic power had to be mixed in….. the original holders of these kekkei genkai stole demonic powers and found ways to make themselves somewhat like demons." He paused, trying to gather his thoughts more. "The Uchiha clan gained a relationship with the Kyuubi, our power coming from the interbreeding of the Rinnengan and his power, which left many of our clan more demonic than human," he continued, "As such, our family life is quite different, even though Fugaku wanted us to appear as 'normal' humans.. it didn't really turn out that way." Naruto heard a dark snicker in his mind. He ignored the parasite and focused on his friend. "What does this have to do with whomever you happen to be banging?" "Hey!" "Well, this is you we are talking about." "Fuck off." "Just finish!" "Fine, our family is kind of family, but not really, my parents were 1st cousins, while my uncle married his sister," Sasuke said, "Can you see where I am going with this?" Blue eyes widened. "It's Itachi?" A barely perceptible nod. "Yeah, Itachi," Sasuke said, "We faked his death, after I found out why he had killed our clan, and I set him up in the Land of Waves." "Why didn't you just stay there with him?" "Because, even though I saved him, he needs to be healed, and I came back, to see if Tsunade would be willing to help him," he explained, "She said she would heal him, if I could prove that both he and I would be assets to Konoha again… I did tell her he would no longer be a shinobi." He shook his head. "The last long mission I had, I was going to retrieve him… but, his neighbors said that a few unidentified nin came and took him." "And you think the council had something to do with it?" Another nod. Black eyes looked out of the window. "I can feel him, you know," he said, "Itachi transferred some of his power to me, which gave us a psychic bond; I know he is alive, but they are hurting him." "Do you have any ideas as to where he is?" Naruto asked. "Yeah, but, it is getting there without being caught." "Where is it?" "The Uchiha Hideout… well, what is left of it anyway," Sasuke said, "There are underground levels that were left undamaged." "So, how do we get there without getting caught and why would we worry about the getting caught part?" Sasuke closed his eyes for a moment. "I don't want them hurting him, if they noticed we are nearby," he said, "Plus, this could look bad for Tsunade." Naruto was quiet. The older man could tell his friend was thinking, which was rare. Nothing was said for quite a few minutes, until the blond jumped up with a yell. "I got it!" he said. "What?" "You don't go," Naruto said, "I will, with Kakashi and Hinata, they wouldn't dare piss off Hiashi by messing with his daughter." Sasuke shook his head. "Itachi won't trust you," he started. "I am not saying you stay behind," Naruto interrupted, "You, Neji and Shikamaru are on another unimportant mission, nearby and when you are alerted to a possible S-class nin with the Sharingan, you are immediately moved to the area." Sasuke grinned. "Dobe, you are actually smart sometimes." Naruto stuck his tongue out and pouted. "I am always right, teme!" "Sure you are." They both were silent for a moment, listening to the world outside. The blond was busy planning the rescue in his head, while Sasuke tried to concentrate on the pain his brother was in. "When do you want to do this, Sasuke?" "As soon as possible," he replied, "Itachi, while one of the most talented Sharingan users of the clan, suffered from the demonic power, instead of benefiting, I think he tries to fight it, so, there is a chance that he would not fare well under duress." "If he accepted the power, perhaps that would help to heal him?" "Possibly, but, I want to get him out of there as soon as possible." "We can talk to Tsunade tonight," Naruto said, "Kakashi can check and make sure we are not being listened to as well." "All right, though, if she does not give us the go ahead, I am leaving tomorrow," Sasuke said, "He has been there way to long, I don't want him to think I have abandoned him." "I understand," Naruto said, "If it comes to that, I will go with you." Sasuke shook his head and opened his mouth to protest, but Naruto silenced him. "Shut up, you are my friend and you deserve to be happy, after what the village has taken from you," he said, "So, you will accept my help and you will be grateful for it!" "All right, sheesh." The Uchiha fell silent again, staring at his hands. He looked lost for a moment, not really himself. "I …. I just want him back," he said, softly, "I want to hold him again and I can't stand not knowing what is happening to him." Naruto scooted closer and put his arm around his friend's shoulders. "We will get him back and bring him here."
