The sun was setting over the beach, the colors bright for a winter day. The wind was gently blowing a warm breeze along the water’s edge and it actually felt nice. Two men were walking along the edge of the ocean, the water lapping gently at their bare feet. Their hands were entwined intimately as one of them chattered. To some it would look as though the darker haired man wasn’t paying attention, but the blond at his side knew that the other was hanging onto his every word.
Laughter filled the space around them as they enjoyed just being near one another. The couple paused as they turned to view the sunset, the vibrant colors very appeasing to their eyes. The blond man pulled the dark haired one to his side and whispered into his ear, “it’s just the like the evening we met.”
“Moron, you think every sunset is just like the evening we met.” The other man snorted as he unconsciously leaned into the body next to him.
“I mean it Sasuke!” The other sounded offended by the remark. “Those reds and oranges look almost the same!”
“I doubt that a sunset would be the same ten years later,” Sasuke gruffed.
The blond glared at Sasuke but kept his mouth shut. It wouldn’t do to argue with the other. But he could have sworn that the sunset was the same as the one all those years ago. He only wished that he had photograph evidence. But of course there was the stark difference in personalities as well. While the blond had found it very romantic that the sunset was nearly the same as ten years ago, Sasuke wouldn’t see it that way.
“You remember when we first met right?” The blond asked as a tanned arm slipped around a slender waist.
“Of course Naruto, I’m not that forgetful,” Sasuke made sure to stress the word forgetful.
Naruto sighed as he turned to nuzzle the side of Sasuke’s head, not caring if anyone saw them. “I know, but sometimes you’re so prickly…”
“Moron,” Sasuke said as he turned into the blonds’ body and hugged him. “You should me well enough by now to know that most of the time I don’t mean anything by it.”
Naruto laughed heartily at the response. “I wish I had known that when I first met you.”
~Flashback~
The evening was warm and the beach was surprisingly empty except for a few souls who had wanted to watch the sun set over the ocean. A group of friends had decided to head down to the beach and have a small cookout. It was nearing the end of their winter break and they at least wanted to have one cookout before they had to leave at the end of the week.
The ringleader of course was Naruto, the loud blond had taken to horse playing with one of his friends as they set up the fire pit. The blonds best friend Kiba, a brunet who was as obnoxious as Naruto, egged everything on. Their horse playing had went from around the fire pit to out on the beach.
They were wrestling and kicking up sand when Naruto was pushed into another person. The blond quickly apologized and went to tackle Kiba, when he was grabbed by his shirt neck and pulled back, the hands moving to his arms to hold him in place. Naruto scowled at the young man that had the audacity to act so rudely.
“What’s your problem?” The blond snarled as he tried to fight free, but the grip on his arm was strong. Blue eyes stared heatedly into angry dark ones.
“You moron! You need to watch what the hell you’re doing!” The other man said as he shook the blond.
“There’s no need to get rough bastard!”
“There is! You need to watch what the hell you’re doing!”
By now the two men were yelling and attracting the attention of the few people that were still on the beach. There was semi-circle surrounding them, but neither one noticed the extra bodies. The two men were too busy staring one another down while they yelled.
The argument would have escalated higher if Hinata had not stepped in and grabbed Naruto by the ear and drug him away from the other man. She let the abused appendage go and gave him a look that clearly stated that he needed to give a proper apology. The blond didn’t like it, but she was like a sister to him so he did as requested.
But the bastard had thrown the heart felt apology back in his face. So once again Naruto went for the other man, but Hinata stopped him with a small hand on his arm. Her look clearly said to let it go. The blond didn’t say anything as he looked to the side and avoided the dark gaze. Naruto knew that if had looked at the other he would have plowed him in the face.
“Heh, pussy whipped huh?” The remark made Naruto’s blood boil. He gently shrugged Hinata off and made his way back over to the bastard and punched him in the nose, the sickening crack bringing satisfaction.
~End Flashback~
“It wasn’t very romantic was it?” Naruto asked as he gently kissed Sasuke’s forehead.
“No it wasn’t,” Sasuke snorted, not amused.
“How was I to know you were having a shitty day? And it was an accident that I bumped into you!” The blond defended himself.
“I knew that moron after you took me to the hospital.” Sasuke grunted as the blond pulled away from him and they continued to walk along the beach. “Besides I find it impossible that you even looked at the sunset long enough to memorize it.”
“Hey! I was looking at it from the boardwalk!” Naruto said as he gently bumped Sasuke’s shoulder with his own.
“Right,” Sasuke deadpanned.
“I was! I can’t help it if you don’t believe me!”
“There is nothing you can do to change my mind Naruto.” The dark haired man said as he bumped Naruto back. “Besides, we’re lucky to even be together today. I hated you for weeks afterwards and then I was pissed when I learned that you had switched to my college.”
Naruto snickered. “Ah the look on your face was priceless when I showed up in your Economics class first thing Monday morning.”
“I’m sure you enjoyed it greatly.” Sasuke said sourly, not enjoying the memories of that particular time.
“Of course! You hadn’t forgotten who I was!” Naruto said with a cheeky grin.
The blond stopped as the last colors faded from the sky and pulled Sasuke close to him. His smile was gentle and full of love for the man before him. It took Sasuke’s breath away even after ten years of having it directed at him. Naruto brought a tanned hand and cupped the dark haired man’s cheek gently.
“Happy anniversary,” he whispered as he dove in for a tender kiss.
“Sap,” Sasuke whispered as Naruto pulled away. But the smile on his lips gave away the fact that he had enjoyed the moment between them. “But you were right, coming here for our tenth anniversary was a good idea.”
“Hmm…I’m glad you enjoyed it.” By now the sun had disappeared over the ocean and most of the people on the beach had left, leaving just Naruto and Sasuke alone on the sand.
“It was…a pleasant surprise. I think we should head back to the hotel.” Sasuke tugged the hand and had Naruto following him, a seductive smirk on his lips.
The blond licked his lips as he followed his lover along the beach and back to the boardwalk. He was content with this man. Sasuke was always unpredictable and he wouldn’t trade the last ten years for anything. Of course they had started out as rivals when Naruto had shown up at Sasuke’s university, but the rivalry had turned into deep respect and the respect into friendship. And that friendship had evolved into a relationship. Of course it wasn’t all sunshine and roses, there were the ups and downs of every relationship.
There were times that they had broken up and had almost never gotten back together. They were polar opposites, Naruto loud and outgoing where Sasuke was more prone to keep to himself and was mostly quiet. Their friends even had a pool going on how their relationship would last. Hinata had won that one, apparently she had seen what others hadn’t, that both men were stubborn and would do anything to keep one another.
Naruto laughed at Sasuke’s impatient pace, he tugged the hand and brought Sasuke against him once again. “Why the rush? We have the rest of our lives.”
Sasuke didn’t say anything as he brushed his lips against Naruto’s. The blond wrapped his arms around the other man and drew him closer, ignoring the cat calls and the people passing by. The world seemed to melt away and they only existed for each other.
