"Ahh!" Clutching his chest, Sasuke sat up from his bed. His eyes were wild, heart beating furiously in its chest. Covered in a cold sweat, a hand clung to the thick, black kimono which he was wearing. Leaning over, Sasuke panted, trying desperately to catch his breath. Once the breathing slowed down, he closed his eyes to sigh. Closing his mouth, he breathed deeply in and out through his nose. After a second time, the air was released slowly from parted lips. Reopening the eyes, they looked to the left, then to the right. To the left, was a window. The dark gray curtains were drawn, but the sun was shining brightly through them. The wall was painted in white, and made of some sort of clay or stone.
Last time he checked, their walls in the home were made of wood. This, obviously, wasn't their house. To the right, Sasuke noticed that the little room he was in was relatively empty. There was only a small closet door and a door that lead out. Putting his hand back down on the bed, he noticed it was warmer on the empty side. "...Naruto..." It hurt to speak out loud. Clearing his throat, Sasuke pulled the covers aside. Tossing bare legs over the side of the bed, they made an attempt to stand. Immediately, he fell to his hands and knees. The feeling in the legs were gone, probably due to how long he was sleeping. How long was he sleeping for anyway? Just as he reached to rub the numb calves, he felt something heavy fall onto a shoulder. Confused, he reached up to grab, whatever it was. Once the hand touched the strange weight, his body froze. It was a ponytail. Tugging it over the shoulder to full length, Sasuke's long hair was nearly to his mid-back. That couldn't be right, could it? It was in a short cut before he fought Sakura... The realization started to overwhelm the recently conscious man. For this to happen, he had to have been asleep for, at least, a few years. But how long was a 'few' years? Trying to get up again, Sasuke could only wobble. He couldn't even crawl like this! Turning, he tried to concentrate his chakra to the weak legs. "Get up...GET UP!" Pushing himself up, one leg at a time, he carefully was able to stand. Once on his feet, he wobbled a bit more, but took his first step. Then another one. "Alright..." The house was quiet, and it was obvious that no one was home. Slowly, Sasuke made it to the door. Opening it, was another shock to him. It was a tiny apartment, the walls painted white. The floor was made of a stone type of black tile, cool to the bare feet. Looking around, he noticed a small kitchen and television. In the far back was a desk, with a pile of papers and paperback books. Walking was taking its toll on Sasuke, who slipped to his knees on the cold floor. Catching his breath, he stood back up. Using the wall to brace himself, the tired body eventually made it to the desk. It was a low table, something that would be used by a person seated on the floor. Sitting again on the mat, he started to shuffle frantically though the papers. There was a lot of hand scribbled notes, detailing Sasuke's condition. Letters back and forth from Gaara, Shiro, Sai, Neji, and even their twins. In one of the folded letters, a picture slipped out. There was Gaara and Shiro, standing behind a young boy and girl. The girl had long black hair, pulled to a side ponytail, with pretty, almond shaped eyes like her father. Standing next to her was a relatively taller boy with red hair, long enough for a short, half ponytail when being pulled back. Both of them had on ninja headbands, representing the Sand Village. Flipping to the back, there was a short note scribbled: Kana and Shino Uzumaki, Age 13. Sasuke couldn't control the tears that were coming out of his eyes. The photo was stared at for a good, long time, before it was placed carefully back into the letter. Wiping his face, Sasuke moved to look at the journals that had piled up. There were five all together, assuming that each one was for a year Sasuke was in his coma. He picked one up, starting with year one. Flipping through, he read a few entries before moving on. He was looking for clues, anything to tell him where Naruto was at the moment. Finally, around the end of the fourth one, Sasuke perked up. Naruto spoke about how he managed to acquire a small snack shop in the town square. He wrote more about it in the fifth journal, about hiring new employees and keeping inventory. How, apparently, the monks and young monks in training, had a terrible sweet tooth. It was all very basic, even boring everyday things. But there were several entries, and more heartbreaking ones, where Naruto would describe his personal suffering without Sasuke and being away from his twins. Closing the journal, Sasuke pushed himself to stand again. More feeling had come back to the weakened legs with the charka shocking them constantly with lightning. It wasn't painful, but more so having small jolts that were bringing the body back to life. He had been dead for far too long. Moving to the door, Sasuke slipped on a pair of sandals that were close by. It actually hurt to only see one pair of shoes, instead of two. Not really caring if he looked odd in a kimono, Sasuke managed to catch a glimpse of himself in a small mirror that was hanging up. He hadn't changed, except his hair grew out. He wondered why that was, but shrugged. Opening the door, the light actually burned the dark eyes for a moment. Putting an arm up, he tried to block the sun with the long sleeve. After they adjusted, he managed to look at where he was. He was on top of a hill, in a village with many staircases. There was a temple in the distance, along with a castle. The tropical trees and flowers were in full bloom. "...I've been here before. This is the Hidden Oasis..." Closing the door behind himself, he sighed heavily. The fresh air was sweet, causing him to cough just a bit more. "Alright..." Picking up the wobbly legs, he walked slowly, down the winding paths and stairs that surrounded the mountainous village. There were people, out and about, who noticeably gave Sasuke a look over. Stopping to ask whomever he saw, he smiled and would ask about Naruto and the snack shop. Some knew what he was talking about, some didn't, or at least, they didn't tell him anything. Over and over, he would stop to ask: "Have you seen a man about my height? Blond man with spiky hair and blue eyes? Naruto Uzumaki? A snack shop with a frog on its sign?" The ones who did tell him started to point him in the right direction. By the time Sasuke got to the town square, he was exhausted. The kimono he was wearing was definitely heavy for this sort of topical weather. The long, heavy black hair didn't help much either. Leaning over, he noticed a group of kids running around. In their hands, they all had sugar pops. "Hey...you guys." The kids had to stop, looking to each other. "Do you know of a candy store with a frog on the sign?" One of the little girls nodded, pointing just down the road. Smiling, Sasuke gave a nod. The little girl blushed, hiding behind the other boys. It was lucky for Sasuke, that girls always seemed to like him. Jogging to the end of the block, he looked at both sides of the street. Finally, he saw it. That ridiculous cartoon frog Naruto always liked. Feeling renewed, he ran to the store front. Pushing the glass door open, he jogged up to the counter. Placing his hands on the counter top, Sasuke had to catch his breath again. The dark skinned woman at the counter looked...surprised, to say the least. "...Can...I help you?" Her voice was confused, although cautious. Looking up, Sasuke caught a decent look at her face. It was small, but round, with large hazel eyes and a chocolate skin tone. Her lips were pouty, glossed over in pink. Most noticeable, was her swollen belly which was protruding from a silky, flowery sundress. "The owner...", Sasuke said, shaking off his weariness. "I need to speak with the owner." "The...owner? I'm sorry, but he's busy right now." "When...no..Where is he? I need to see him. Please." Trying to remain calm, Sasuke forced himself to be polite. "I'm sorry, but he's busy right now. If you're not going to buy anything..." "I need to speak to him. Please. Could you just get him?" Glaring, the woman had about just enough of this stranger. "Well, if you need to leave a message..." "Leave a..." It was either the heat or anger that got Sasuke to laugh. "I'm not leaving a damn message. Naruto! NARUTO!" "Please, sir!" While she would have taken Sasuke's arm, the woman suddenly had a chill that went through her spine from Sasuke's glare. A hand protectively went to her stomach, suddenly fearing her life. Finally a door opened from upstairs, and there was a sound of heavy footsteps coming down. Coming from around the corner, Naruto with his hair overgrown, and nearly a full face of stubble came into the main room of the small store. He was carrying a box, his sharp blue eyes looked with murderous intent at whoever was calling him out like that. Smiling, Sasuke sighed in relief. Despite the messy appearance, he would recognize his lover anywhere. "...There you are..." Leaning on the counter more, Sasuke went weak for a moment. It was if a large weight was taken off from his shoulders. The glare in the blue eyes softened. The box of snacks dropped as Naruto said Sasuke's name out loud. Hoping over the box, Naruto ran to scoop Sasuke up. Hugging him was almost unreal. "You're alive..." The blond was choked up, his eyes already crying rivers of tears. It was enough to even make the blond bits of stubble wet on his cheeks. "I'm not dreaming this time, am I?" Sasuke had to chuckle at the question, clinging back equally hard. "No, you're not dreaming this time." Falling to his knees, Naruto dragged Sasuke down with him. The crying only intensified, soaking Sasuke's shoulder. The woman behind the counter quickly wiped her own tear away, coming over to help Naruto up. "You...should go upstairs. I'll watch the store." "Thank you..." This time it was Sasuke holding Naruto up. "I...Sorry, about before." "Saradi." "Sa..radi?" "That's my name...so please, go upstairs." "Yes....Thank you...Come on, you big baby. We have a lot of catching up to do." Smiling, Sasuke tried to soften the mood, even if he were crying himself. Nodding, Naruto followed, still clinging to Sasuke in case he was dreaming. This wouldn't be the first time he had this dream, after all. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
