Summary:
After a passionate night, Sasuke's perfect world comes crashing down around him . . . and everyone else. What dangerous game are they being drawn into and who is the mysterious prince of Konoha forest? The war is over and all is well in the world. Everything is perfect. Right? So why can't anyone remember what happened during the war? When that perfect world comes crashing down, who will be left standing? ---xXx--- It was a day like any other day. The weather was perfect, sunny and clear. The village was full of life, from the shopkeepers tending customers to the shinobi making their daily rounds. Everything seemed peaceful, nothing amiss. Everyone believed it so. "Sasuke-kun!" called a familiar voice. Sakura. The dark-haired man tilted his head in response to the young woman and she skipped up to him and greeted him a good morning. "Ne, Sasuke-kun, how are things going for you? Any progress yet?" Sakura added a suggestive wink with the latter question which caused a slight tinge, about the same color as her hair, to bloom across the Uchiha's cheeks. "When are we going to meet this mystery love of yours anyway?" Sasuke side-glanced away. He didn't have an answer. Literally. He coughed and mumbled something barely audible, but the girl caught it anyways. "Geeze, Sasuke. You need to stop being so shy about it." He complained it wasn't because he was shy. He wasn't. Really. He tried to convince himself. He wasn't sure what the reason behind his hesitation was. The two were interrupted by a call in the distance. Ino, Sakura's friend, was flagging her down. "Oh, I've got to get going. Sorry, Sasuke-kun." She parted from him, but turned midway and called out to him. "Remember, if you don't do it soon, you'll get left behind!" The tinge that had graced his features before now turned a maddening red causing both girls to start giggling. He hurriedly left the area. He wasn't sure where he had been headed to before until he noticed the area he was in. It wasn't the cleanest or the brightest neighborhood. The apartments were run-down and dirty looking from the outside. Trash littered the alleys. His father constantly nagged him about hanging around the area. It was bad enough that Sasuke wouldn't say anything about the person he continuously spent his time with. He made his way up to the uppermost story of the last apartment building. He hesitated a moment before lightly knocking on the door nearest the back. The raven-haired man waited but there was no response. It made him nervous. Sasuke turned the doorknob carefully and it clicked before releasing. He poked his head in and was immediately greeted by the smell of trees and fresh soil. Despite it being a cramped apartment deep in the slums of Konoha, it smelled like the forest. He smelled like the forest. Speaking of whom, said forest-smelling person was still not visible to him. Tentatively, Sasuke stepped inside the apartment. The kitchen was visible from the entrance, so it was obvious the other was not there. The bathroom light was out. That left the bedroom. The door of which was left slightly ajar. He crept towards it and tried to peek in without making a noise. The curtains were drawn, leaving the room in shadows. He couldn't see anything inside that looked like a person. He was about to swing the door open further when he was suddenly embraced from behind. "I believe breaking and entering is a crime." "I didn't break in. You left it open." "Hm. So I did." There was amusement in the other man's voice. "You did it on purpose." The other had lured him in. It was clear to Sasuke now. "My home is always open to you." The man buried his face into the side of Sasuke's neck. He began caressing the area with nips and light kisses. Sasuke tried to move away from the feathery touches, but the arms around his chest and waist held him in place. The warm words melted the icy walls of his defenses. It was odd that a person who would not let him see his face, who would not tell him his name, who constantly held him like this, whispering blissful words of sweet nothings into his ear, could sound so convincingly honest. It was true. The reason he could not introduce his "love" to anyone wasn't because he was shy or embarrassed. It was because Sasuke himself didn't know who he was. Yet oddly, the man felt familiar to him. From the moment they had first met, it was as if Sasuke had known the man. The strength of his arms, the warmth of his body, the whisper of his voice, Sasuke absorbed it all. It made him shiver. "Are you cold?" The question was laced with concern. It was warm today, so Sasuke shouldn't have been cold. The arm around his chest moved up to feel his forehead. He closed his eyes and sighed at the touch. He allowed his head to be tilted back against the man's shoulder while his cheek was pressed against another. "Hm, you don't seem to have a fever." The amusement was back and he snorted at how quickly the other man went back and forth between emotions. "I want to turn around." It was a simple statement. There was no force behind it. It wasn't an order, not a command. It was barely even demanding. The response Sasuke received wasn't a response at all. There was silence. For a moment, Sasuke wondered if the other had disappeared. It brought up a panic from deep within him until a motion made him realize the other was still holding him. "Sasuke-" "Please?" Anyone other than this man might have been in utter shock by the tone Sasuke used. It was longing, almost begging. It was quiet; it was shy. It sounded like a plea more than any request. "I won't look. I just want to turn around. Please?" "Ah, I really can't deny you anything, can I?" There was a breath of laughter and the arms were gone. The panic welled back up within Sasuke, but before he could say or do anything, something was pressed over his face, it covered his eyes. A blindfold. Sasuke touched it. There was something attached to it. A piece of metal. It was a hitae-ate. "Is this yours?" The question came out before Sasuke realized what he was asking. The other paused in his movements. He had been tying the headband so that it would not fall. Sasuke felt stupid. Identifying questions were supposed to be off limits. He was about to take back the question, to tell the other he didn't have to answer, but the man beat him to it. "Yes." That was all the response he received. The hands were gone and Sasuke was left standing there, blindfolded and slightly dumbfounded. The answer had been as simple as his request, but Sasuke had not expected to receive even that much. If the hitae-ate he was wearing really belonged to the other man, it meant the man was a shinobi. That was a lot of information despite being quite vague. If the man lived here, did that mean he was Konoha-nin? If he were a foreign shinobi, he would have surveillance on him, but Sasuke didn't sense anyone watching them. Sasuke had even made sure no one from his own family intruded on the mysterious man. He couldn't be an enemy nin. Sasuke refused to believe their village's defense was really that poor. Especially when his family was in charge of the Military Police Force. "You're thinking too much." Sasuke tensed when the voice spoke in front of him. He was so used to the other being behind him that it made him nervous. "Sometimes I wonder if you think enough." Sasuke shot back without hesitation. The other laughed at the quick response. It was another one of those hints that led Sasuke to believe he was more familiar with this man than he knew. "Touché." Uchiha's are temperamental and haughty; it's no secret, but the insults that he passed back and forth with this man were never truly cruel. The man had always laughed them off or, even better, had comeback with one of his own. Even when Sasuke tried to be angry at the other, he had a way of making Sasuke's anger melt away. Sasuke's hands reached out, but nothing met them. He took a cautious step forward and his fingers brushed against the familiar fabric of the other man's jacket. He could feel it. He was very certain he could feel it. He could actually feel the obnoxious grin on the man's face although he had never seen it. It made him defensive. He didn't like feeling so vulnerable. And like magic, the arms were back around him, consoling him. It was as if the other knew his feelings, like he could read his mind. He also didn't like being treated so pathetically, but the other man was quite affectionate, and Sasuke couldn't resist letting himself be spoiled by him. The Uchiha buried his face into the other's neck, which caused the other man to laugh. Now Sasuke could literally feel him smiling. He felt every twitch of every muscle. He felt and heard the blood coursing through the man's body. He brought his hands up to run through the soft, short hair. Sasuke had caught glimpses of it before. It was a golden, sunshine kind of blonde, ever so radiant, so brilliant. He never dared to say so though, for fear of the other leaving and never returning. Sasuke had seen the man's hands plenty of times, so he knew the man's skin color. He was tan, not exactly an exotic dark color, but tan enough to tell that he spent much time outdoors in the sun and was definitely darker than the Uchiha. That, in turn, told Sasuke the person either liked being outdoors or his occupation called for him to be outside a lot. As a matter of fact, they had first met outdoors. In the forest near the training grounds, to be precise. Sasuke had sensed the other's presence at the time. The mysterious person had watched him train for a while before leaving. Sasuke had chased after him. Unable to find the other, he continuously came back to search the area every day until the man had revealed himself. Well, he hadn't really revealed himself. He had somehow managed to sneak up behind Sasuke, the same way he does every time they meet. He had pinned the raven-haired man and questioned why he kept returning to the area day after day. Sasuke shot the same question back at the man, but he had only laughed after a moment of silence. "Why did you laugh?" "Because it tickles." Sasuke pulled back from the man's neck and rested his head on the man's shoulder instead. "Not that. When we met in the forest, you asked me why I kept coming to that same spot. I asked you the same question, but you never answered me. You just laughed." "Oh, well, I suppose it's because you never answered me either." "Seriously?" The man laughed at the incredulous tone and Sasuke held back a pout. "Fine, then. If you must know, I was searching for you." "Oh, really?" There was amusement before his voice trailed off. Sasuke wondered if he had said something wrong. The man had seemed happy by his declaration, so why would he suddenly become sullen. "I wasn't coming back to that spot." "What?" "You came back every day since you had noticed my presence?" It was a question, so Sasuke responded with a nod. "I hadn't returned there since the day you first noticed me." "Then how did you know I was always there." "You really want to know?" Again, Sasuke nodded. "It'll sound weird, though." "I already think you're weird. Tell me anyways." The other laughed. The sound vibrated through his body. "Seriously, tell me." "I knew . . . well, to be honest, I knew you kept coming back because I could smell it." "You could . . . smell it?" Sasuke applied emphasis to the word "smell." He had to give the other man credit. It was a pretty odd thing to say, but considering the Inuzuka's are one of the better-known shinobi clans located in Konoha, it wasn't impossible to believe. "Yup. I could smell you." The man put the emphasis on the last word and Sasuke tensed when the man suddenly embraced him tighter. The man's face pressed against his neck and Sasuke breathed in harshly when he felt the sharp nip of teeth against his skin. He would never say it aloud, but inwardly he had to admit it excited him, this man's possessiveness. He always seemed to be so carefree, always happy, always laughing. At first, Sasuke had found it annoying, but it grew on him. Then, one day, Sasuke had goofed. He had wanted to see the man's face, even if he had to fight him to do so. Uchiha's were temperamental, but nothing compared to this man's ire. He had pinned Sasuke full-bodied face down into the ground. Sasuke had thought the man would break his neck with the grip he had on it. His arms had been pinned behind his back. None of that compared to the weight he felt from the man's chakra. Sasuke wasn't even sure if it was actually chakra. It had been so thick and so . . . present. Like a fog that felt like it weighed a ton against him. It rendered him completely immobile. He could feel it to the very core of his being. He thought the pressure of it would stop his heart and lungs. It was strong. It was powerful. It was dominating. It was . . . feral. Teeth, no. Fangs brushed against his neck that day. Hot breath blew against his ear and throat and he dared not look up at the other. That day, he learned what it truly felt like to be completely and utterly vulnerable. Sasuke let out a moan and suddenly realized he wasn't pinned to the pine-smelling soil of the forest. Something hard was against his back, the wall. The other had backed him against a wall with his wrists pinned above his head. He was attacking the raven-haired man's neck while pressing his body firmly against the Uchiha's. The moan Sasuke had let out a moment ago seemed to have fueled the man further as a sharp tooth broke skin. Sasuke had hissed at the prick. It stung like a paper cut. "Sor . . . ry . . ." Came the breathy response, but it trailed off as the man began sucking and lapping at the wound. Sasuke bit back what could have been a potential whimper but came out as a sharp breath. "Nn . . . wait . . ." Sasuke squirmed, trying to gain back some control, but a small rumbled still him. "Please . . . h-hands . . . please . . ." He flexed his fingers as emphasis. When no response came, he thought the other had ignored him, but after a moment, the grip on his wrists disappeared. His arms sunk down around the other's neck. His fingers immediately groped through the downy locks of hair. Never in his life as an Uchiha did he ever once think he could be dominated, violated like this. His pride had completely left him with nothing but a writhing, wriggling mess of want and neediness. That strong, warm body that smelled of the forest pressed him firmly, almost harshly, against the wall. A nip behind the ear finally managed a real whimper from the Uchiha. A knee pressed against his thigh and he obliged thoughtlessly, spreading his legs apart. Suddenly, like a dam breaking, the embrace became more forceful. The teeth had left his neck and Sasuke found his voice swallowed up in the other man's kiss. He only noticed the invasive hands once they had managed to drop the hem of his pants below his waist. One gripped his waist, holding him steady, while the other reached behind him. The man's body pushed him back while the hand pushed him forward, keeping him deadlocked, pinned. He was beginning to get lightheaded. He needed air. He wondered if he would faint. He was losing this battle. Then, he realized, he had already lost. His knees buckled under the intrusion. The only thing that kept him from falling was the other man's grip on him. He had the chance to breathe now, but the air only came in short, harsh swallows as he was overwhelmed by the new, unfamiliar sensation. His body immediately tried to block out the invader, clenching so tightly it almost hurt. He didn't realize the other was speaking to him. "Sasuke . . . Sasuke." "Uhn . . . Nn . . ." He couldn't form the words to respond, but the other accepted the sounds. "Relax . . . Relax your body, Sasuke . . ." He couldn't do it. His muscles ached from the tension. His body had locked up on him. He wasn't sure if he could move at all. The fabric of the hitae-ate was beginning to feel damp. "Listen to me, Sasuke." He couldn't. Panic began to enter him. His chest felt tight, heavy. He couldn't feel his knees. His entire body trembled. "Sasuke." The voice was firm, commanding, and suddenly it was as if his entire body was focused on it. "Relax," the voice commanded and suddenly Sasuke sunk to the floor. The arms around him kept him from hitting the ground too roughly. He couldn't see but he figured he must look pathetic. He realized the dampness of the hitae-ate was most likely from tears. How could he cry? Was he really so pitiful? "Sasuke, sleep." It was an odd thing to say suddenly, but Sasuke realized the other was still using that commanding tone. Before he could question it further, darkness overcame him. He awoke later. How much later, he wasn't sure. He was sure that his body was still sore. He felt like he had just woken up after doing a week's worth of taijutsu training under Maito Gai. His eyes were bleary and he wiped them clear. The room was unfamiliar and dark. He was lying in a bed, under the covers, in only a shirt. He looked closely at it. It wasn't a shirt. It was too thick and heavy to be a shirt, and there was a zipper, too. It was a jacket. It was his jacket. It smelled of him, so did the bed. The entire room smelled strongly of him. After sleeping in the bed, Sasuke idly wondered if he smelled of him too. The curtains were still drawn, but Sasuke could tell it was late evening. How long had he slept for? Why had he fallen asleep in the first place? Oh, right. It was because he had panicked. Perhaps the exhaustion had been too much for him afterwards? That didn't seem right. He wiped at his eyes again. It then occurred to him. He wasn't wearing the blindfold. Was the other still around? It was his apartment after all, but if he removed the headband when there was still a possibility of Sasuke seeing him, then he might have left. They had been seeing each other for almost a year and they had gone no farther than playful touches until today. Of course, the other would want to progress forward. It was only natural, right? To want that sort of thing. Yet, the moment the opportunity came, he somehow managed to ruin it. It was embarrassing to say the least. He dragged himself out of the bed, wincing at the dull ache of his . . . . He stopped his thoughts there. He cheeks warmed with what could only be a deep blush. He noticed his cheeks weren't the only thing that became warm. He pressed his knees together. It was ridiculous. If he wanted that so badly, then why did he always tense up when the opportunity came? It was frustrating. It must be frustrating for him, too. Sasuke pulled himself to his feet and had to brace himself against the nightstand to avoid toppling over. The pain in his . . . rear . . . immediately went to his knees. It was only a finger. One finger, at that. He was truly pathetic, wasn't he? He braced his legs and took a breath, willing the soreness from his body. He was an Uchiha. Pain should be nothing to him. He was . . . . . . naked. Sasuke's mind shot to a blank when the door of the bedroom swung open and there stood the other, nude with a damp towel covering his equally damp head. Sasuke's throat suddenly felt very dry. He allowed himself to drop onto the bed before his knees gave out on him again. Even in the dim light he could make out every structure of the other's body. He was well-built, but lithe. In a way, it reminded Sasuke of a lion, powerful but agile, and the colors: bronze and gold. There was something else. A tattoo, maybe? He couldn't see it well from the angle it was at, but it looked as if it covered a good deal of the man's stomach. The noise of Sasuke dropping onto the covers alerted the other that he was awake. He was facing away from Sasuke but he froze where he stood. Sasuke wondered if it would be a good opportunity to take advantage of the other. He might be able to catch a glimpse of his face, see the color of his eyes. Sasuke watched the emotions pass through the other's body. He really was emotive. It ended with calmness. His body relaxed and he simply stood still. It was trust. He trusted that Sasuke would adhere to his request. When they had first met, he had promised not to kill Sasuke if the other promised not to look at him. Then, when Sasuke had sought him out again, it turned into a promise of companionship. Eventually, the promises kept building. He promised Sasuke security, love, affection and more. Still, the only thing he asked of Sasuke was that he would not seek the other's identity. "Why . . . ?" Sasuke started. The other inclined his head to show he was listening. He moved his weight to one leg and waited. "Why can't I know who you are? Am I allowed to know that?" Sasuke watched for any movements, any notions, that might reveal something. There were none. "Close your eyes." It wasn't a command like before. His voice was gentle. Sasuke did more than oblige it. He turned to face the wall. The other must've heard him moving because Sasuke didn't have to say anything. There was a weight on the bed behind him and strong arms wrapped themselves around his chest. He leaned back into the other but kept his eyes closed as a precaution. "You really want to know?" "I do." The man pressed a kiss against the raven's neck where the large jacket had slid away from. "Mm, I really can't deny you anything, can I?" Sasuke recalled the same words being said earlier when he had first arrived. "You deny me yourself." "Ah, but I already gave myself to you. I am yours." "Then why can't I see you. Why can't I look at you? I want to see your face. I want to look into your eyes." "To know that I am real?" Sasuke quieted when the other man finished for him. Had he known this entire time? Sasuke had wondered it before. Almost every time he returned home, he would fall asleep wondering if it was dream, if this person was just a figment of his imagination. Sasuke swallowed. He wasn't sure what to say next. He waited. The weight on the bed moved. The other's arms loosened but reaffirmed their position after a moment of movement. Sasuke followed the weight. He listened for the sounds. He allowed his body to be manipulated when those hands pulled on him. The man had reclined against the wall adjacent to the one Sasuke had been facing. He had then pulled Sasuke to him, between his knees. Sasuke pressed his hands into the mattress for leverage, his arms brushing against bare thighs. The man rested his chin on Sasuke's right shoulder and felt his right hand being lifted palm up by two firm hands. He moved with confidence, either lacking hesitation or hiding it well. A finger traced over his palm. Sasuke tried to make out the symbols, but they were unfamiliar to him. The weight on his shoulder left. "Take a look." Sasuke hesitated opening his eyes, but slowly allowed them to open. His hand was still being held by the man's two but Sasuke noticed the bit of extra weight in his hand, or rather on his ring finger. "What is it?" He asked dumbly. He knew what it was. It was a ring. "It's a promise." "Promise?" The hands holding his returned to their place around his waist while the weight that had left his shoulder returned. Sasuke caught the strands of gold, but made no motion to alert the other that he could see them. "I promise that the time we've spent together is real. I promise that everything I've told you is real. I promise that my love is real. I promise that I'm real." The man punctuated each statement with a kiss. It started from his shoulder and the kisses gradually moved up until they ended on Sasuke's cheek. Sasuke was almost certain that if he had been anyone else, he might have started crying. He played with the ring, felt the cool surface begin to warm under his touch. It had an inscription on it that looked similar to the symbols he felt the other had been making on his hand. Gentle fingers took his chin. Another set covered his eyes and tilted his head back. He relaxed into the hold, allowing the other to easily lay claim to his lips. "I promise that I love you. I always have and I always will. Nothing will ever change that." There was that honesty of his again. With nothing to back up those words, he still said them confidently, not an ounce of doubt in his voice or body. "What about me?" The man hadn't expected a response so the odd question had surprised him and left him confused. "You promise me all of this and what do I have to give you?" "You don't have to give me anything." "What if I want to give you something?" "Then what is it you want to give me?" Amusement, with a good amount of curiosity, was evident in his voice. Sasuke fidgeted. He didn't want a repeat of the earlier event, at least not the last part. The other breathed out a chuckle. "It's fi—" Sasuke cut off the man, reaching his hands up to grasp head and pull him down into a deep, open kiss. Sasuke left the hand covering his eyes, but grasped the other and pulled it down to his waist, (rather easily) coaxing the man into touching him. He shuddered when that hand began stroking his inner thigh before it continued its ventures. The raven-haired man couldn't help squirming when that firm hand took hold of him and began slowly pumping. The mouth that had been busy ravishing his own had left to pursue other territories, first claiming the area behind Sasuke's ear and then moving to the crook of his neck and his jaw. "If you keep doing this to me, I won't be able to resist you anymore . . ." The man breathed into his ear, nipping at the lobe. "You have no idea how hard it is . . . for me to not just pin you down . . . and take you." Sasuke tried to focus on the words, but the fingers that stroked and played with his length made it terribly difficult. "You said you wanted to give me something . . . but I wonder if you really could . . . give me what I want. Do you know what it is? . . . The thing that I want?" "Nn, w-what? What do you w-want?" Sasuke hips jerked, trying to move with that hand, trying to keep pace with it. The sensations coursing through his body were maddening. Sasuke may not have had much experience, having ever had only mild curiosities, never anything great as he had been distracted by other goals, but he was almost certain he shouldn't be as sensitive as he was now. He lost control so easily, succumbing to the other's control, allowing himself to writhe pathetically, vulnerably in the man's hold. His body felt hot. The body pressed against his felt immeasurably hot. The smell of pine and fresh soil filled the air strongly. His squirming and thrusting caused him to rub against the man, not realizing his own actions until he felt that low rumbling by his ear. Sasuke felt something tightening within him and he knew what was coming. He arched against the other, lowering his head and pressing his lower body further against the man. His hands had moved to bed in front of him to support his position, fingers digging into the covers. The raven bit his lip, swallowing the urge to beg, to cry out. He wasn't even sure what he wanted to say. He was torn between wanting release and wanting the other to stop. Why he wanted him to stop was beyond him but he wasn't given any more time to think on it. The hand that had once covered his eyes was at his throat, the arm pressed against his chest, fingers propping his head up, but he kept his eyes closed. A mouth was at his neck again, teeth pulling at him sharply without breaking the skin. He felt that tightness within him suddenly explode. His body convulsed and he rode out the sensation, panting heavily. "The thing that I want . . . is you. Just you." Sasuke tried to blink his vision back into focus. His mind grasped the words, focusing on them until he could rationalize again. His body, however, didn't wait for him. As if his body was moving on its own, Sasuke hunched over, knees apart, revealing himself to the other. There were no movements or sounds. Sasuke suddenly felt nervous until a weight pressed against his back. "If you don't stop me now, I really don't think I can hold back this time." Sasuke swallowed. The voice was full of lust, that was definite, but it was a real warning. From this position, Sasuke could feel something pressing firmly against his ass and he suddenly remember that the other was nude and he himself was wearing nothing but the man's jacket. A shocked noise escaped him. He wasn't prepared for the sudden thrust. The length of the other rubbed against his own, bringing it back to life. "You look good like this. Especially wearing my jacket like that . . . makes me feel possessive . . ." There was another thrust as if to punctuate that last word, accompanied by a nip to Sasuke's ear. "It's really bad, you know, Sasuke. I want you so badly right now. I want to claim you and make sure no one else can have you. This feeling is so strong. Did you know that?" Sasuke shuddered, more from the constant nipping at his neck and ear and the hot breath that came with it, than the actual words themselves, but he acknowledge the words. He acknowledged the way the man's arms were pressed tightly against his sides while his hands gripped the Uchiha's tightly. He acknowledged the strained control that followed every thrust and rub. "Would you give yourself to me, Sasuke? Am I allowed to have you? Do you want to be mine?" "I-I do. I want to be yours." Talking seemed to be difficult even as the thrusts had mellowed and steadied to a rhythmic, sensual roll. Sasuke focused, steadying his breath. He flexed his fingers against the ones gripping his and pressed his body back against the other. "Make me yours." He was rather impressed by the firmness of his voice. It came out like a demand, a commanding one, with no room for argument. He broke away from his inner gloating when he heard a chuckle behind him and realized the other had stopped moving. "I really, really can't deny you anything, can I?" ---xXx--- Author's notes: A bit (a lot) of fun there in the first chapter, without really revealing much about the actual story. I'm a bit nervous because I've been playing with this story for so long I feel like I may have lost the characters' true natures (although there is a reason for Naruto's and Sasuke's out-of-character-ishness). So it's been a long time since I wrote fanfiction (or smut) and I'm still getting familiar with the site's formatting. Bear with me on this. The story contains more than just NaruSasu, but they're the ones that I want to focus on, because I find them adorable (and I just love semeNaruto). And also, I added some warning tags because I'm unsure of whether they will actually appear in the story or not yet. I'm still working out the plot kinks (Heh, kinks . . . /// ) in those areas. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
