Alpha and Omega
by: Cyn Chapter 1: Returning Home Summary: Before I get started here I want to apologize to anyone who has read my work in the past and wished I had continued it. I have been away due to computer death for a while. Now, this story is more of a unification of two different cultures by using individuals as the key. The Leaf and the Sand have enjoyed a peace treaty for a long time, but they both know the two could be much more prosperous if they simply unified to become one. Naruto Uzumaki and Gaara are two teenage shinobi with a secret abilty between them that a stranger soon reveals to them. This will slowly become a training apprenticeship/romance between the two young men. I hope everyone enjoys it and please feel free to leave me comments. The hot mid summer sun began to raise high above the forest surrounding the Hidden Leaf Village, casting long and contrasting shadows upon the ground with few rays gliding down into the grass below the trees. A ray of light is disturbed as a cloaked figure moved slowly toward the village, using a rune carved walking stick to guide his gangly steps. His stature was that of a damaged man, his lopsided steps carrying him further left with his body than they should. He depended heavily on the staff nowadays to travel long distance, and every step was taxing after a few miles. As he passed through another lit area beneath the trees the cripple slowly drew back his hood, allowing the sun to shine on his brow so he could rest a moment. He was standing taller now, a full six foot; his hair a deep blue with light silver speckling the forward tips, and his eyes a deep crimson brown. The man's skin was a dark tan from having lived in a village alongside the shoreline of a beach, maybe even having been a mariner in his days. His knuckles were large and his hands carried old scars, depicting both age and experience. "Well," drawled out the man's voice, like that of an inquiring parrot, " are you going to use the customary 'Halt, who goes there?' or as the Hidden Leaf finally come up with something amusing for their ANBU to squawk?" There was a short silence before a rustling in the tree just to his right, a small leaf beginning to drift down to the ground infront of him. Before the leaf could touch the ground, a snow white pale ANBU with a bare stomach dropped to the ground infront of him. As he stood the old man could immediately judge he was a fair boy, bearly old enough to hold the rank of an ANBU soldier. His hair was pitch black and contrast against his pale skin like a crow standing upon a puddle of milk, his shoulders slightly narrow whilist his leather encased hips were slightly curvier than usually seen in men. The young ANBU stood behind a black mask of a hawk with red lines etched on its surface. "Who are you, and what is your business in the Hidden Leaf?" Sai's voice came from behind the mask. He was once with Root under Danzo, but after the conflict was over with Danzo's betrayal he ended up released of his duties with Root and became an ANBU under Lady Tsunade. "With all due respect I do not recognize your voice and I know of most people here. As is your right not to tell me your name as an ANBU soldier I would be glad to know who you are young one," the saphire haired man drawled as he took a smoking pipe chained to his staff and latched within its center, noting the ANBU's flinch as he did and smirking before lighting the already prepared tobacco inside it and taking a few puffs. Sai paused for a time and considered what he was doing. On the one hand he was an ANBU and wasn't supposed to throw around his name, especially now that he was regarded as "Black Mask," by the locals and anyone who dare intrude on his shifts. In the other he was very very passionate about becoming more of a socialist. He studied and studied and worked hard to push away his emotionless upbringing by Danzo. Finally he said, "My name is Sai, the 'Black Mask.'" The elder man's recognition was immediate and he decided a grin was the reaction most suited for meeting one such as this young man. Of all the ANBU who had recently become protectors of the Hidden Leaf, "Black Mask," was the most feared. If it wasn't his kurenai that took out an intruder first, it was almost always the mimic ink kurenais that came from all directions in the forest-which were drawn upon every tree within two miles of the village. His Chakra control was second only to the Copy Ninja Kakashi now. "Well, well. It is a pleasure and honor to make your acquaintance "Black Mask," or Sai if you prefer it," he nodded and shifted his cloak to reveal a faded leaf encircled in flame, given to him by the Third Hokage should he ever return to the village. "My name, is Rakashyn, brother of Jiraiya the Toad Sage, and weilder of the Leaf Woodius, "Leviathan."
"Jiraiya's what?! He never said he had a brother! I thought he was the only Pervy Sage the world could ever handle," exclaimed a now 17 year old Naruto Uzumaki as Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage held her hands in a steeple before her now triple diamond covered brow. She peered up at Naruto over her fingers in exasperation and annoyance but she too was suprised that Rakashyn had returned to the Hidden Leaf. She only knew of him from brief mention by Jiraiya and usually never sober. Apparently the two of them had a falling out before he left on a mission by the Third and was never seen again. The emblem sitting infront of her desk which he placed before her upon entering her office was indeed imbued with faded chakra by the Third Hokage long ago and carried a message inscribed upon his back, " May the Will of Fire Burn With Thee."
"Naruto, I understand this is a shock for you, but please try to not yell so loud in here... I'm very tired and this has been a very suprising day for me too," as she finished speaking Naruto detected a hint of sadness in her voice. He knew Tsunade No Ba Chan loved Pervy Sage and had he not died they would have been married more than likely. He was killed by an Akatsuki leader named Pein a year ago in the Hidden Rain Village, but not before finding the key to Pein's abilities and dying to protect the message sent back to the Hidden Leaf. Naruto closed his eyes, his fists making his knuckles pop as he thought about it. He missed Jiraiya very much sometimes, and now these thoughts were brought back in a swarm of thoughts, memories and shoulda coulda wouldas that he couldn't handle right now. "So, " he said as he openned his eyes, " where was this so called 'brother' when Jiraiya or even the Hidden Leaf needed him?! What business does he have here now?! " Naruto was furious, and having now become a Jounin he had more right to speak upon politics than he used to. "Ask him youself Naruto, " Tsunade sighed through her nose as she pointed her eyes to the wall behind the Jounin. From behind Naruto was a soft stirring of energy followed by what looked to be the usual wall and then a "poof" before Rakashyn appeared a foot from the wall infront of Naruto. Naruto took in his features, the old blue-haired male now dressed in a rugged crimson leather vest that cut off at his shoulders, yet belted down into samurai armor plating over his crotch, hips and rear down to his mid thighs. Beneath that was a chain mail shirt, and following down his arms were black vambraces of obsidian that resignated with chakra; more than likely like the energy based weapons that Asuma-sama once used. Upon his back was strapped a four and one half foot hand and a half hand sword sheathed in a flexible hide that resembled a lighter texture of the vest he wore. His build was superior to Naruto's but not by much, but his muscle was knotted and corded like steel cables bunched together under a deep tanned skin. His boots were a brown leather with steel toes showing on them. Naruto was silent for a moment, before his eyes flexed into feline slits followed by a rectangle cross which signified his sage powers mixed with that of his Kyuubi. He didn't growl, but he started to, for before him was the only blood of a man he missed more than any in the world-and he never even showed up for his brother's funeral. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you," Naruto spat, hearing Tsunade exclaim and slam her hands down on the table. Before she could say or do anything more Rakashyn's gnarled right hand came up in a calming gesture, followed by a silence and then Rakashyn's response, "Not only is there the fact that I would behead you before you could land a strike on me... I have no intention of fighting you, but speaking with you and giving you the message your father wished of me. " That unbalanced Naruto and his eyes lingered on suprise for an instant, "My dad? The Fourth? " Rakashyn nodded and let his head nod whilist keeping his eyes on the boy. Naruto had the chance to speak with his father once, when he was almost taken fully over by the Kyuubi inside of him. He was desperate to defeat Pein and nearing releasing the Nine Tails his father, Minato Uzumaki, appeared and stopped him before explaining himself to his son and revealing his heritage. Naruto gulped and bit his lower lip, his fists softening and his eyes returning to their usual blue. Rakashyn smiled and his eyes teared up somewhat. That look disturbed Naruto for a moment but then Rakashyn spoke, " You look so much like your mother, and you have her attitude... I miss your parents as well as my brother. I will have know that I would have given anything to have been there for the Hidden Leaf before now and for my brother when he needed me most, but this world is not kind to those with responsibilities and oaths to keep. I gave the Third Hokage an oath that I would find an answer to unifying the villages and removing the threat of war between these nations, and to that oath I stuck to until I found it... " Rakashyn finished before reaching back and drawing the sword sheathed behind him. As it came down Naruto somewhat gawked. It was a rune carved woodius or wooden sword, and even though it was carved to appear sharp it looked like nothing more than a flank of wood. "This is the Leviathan, a blade created by the elders of these villages including the First Hokage who extracted the petrified wood from the roots of the last Menoa tree on this Earth. It has three powers: One, the blade will respond to the emotions and will of the user, utilizing the nature energy which they possess; as mine is fire, the sword utilizes Fire Nature Energy to create its attacks that which I can also manipulate. Two, the blade will restore one life, for the life of the wielder and that life must be its new bearer. Three, the blade can and will merge the power of two individuals so that together they can function as one unit and feel, act, even think as one. This blade was created to unify the nations and instill harmony amongst our people. My mission, should I fulfill finding the blade was to train the Nine Tails and One Tail to become the first pair of individuals changed by the blade." Naruto looked down at the seemingly useless oar of wood and thought of everything Rakashyn was saying. If that was true, then he would be able to truly become Hokage of the village and protect it from anyone or anything. One day, wars would end and the world that Jiraiya dreamed for, 'a world without so much hatred,' would be possible. Naruto looked from the sword to Rakashyn and then slowly to Tsunade. "Why didn't you tell me... I would have went searching for Rakashyn a long time ago and found him, helped him and maybe even prevented Jiraya's death..." "It would not have mattered Naruto, " Rakashyn said, getting his attention back on him as Tsunade's eyes looked down shamefully, " for I had not found the blade until a few months ago, and then still the journey was a fact finding one and not a question of power or speed. I had to question countless villages, suffer rival seekers, and in the end I faced a man bent on destroying the very ideal for which the sword was meant for by using it to merge his power with a demon... No, you would only have been able to assist in the final chapter of that story Naruto, and even then it was my mission and no one elses'. " "Alright... I understand... I'm sorry Granny... " Naruto said, hearing a sigh of annoyance from Tsunade before she nodded and stood. "Now that you have indeed returned Raka... Jiraiya said he used to call you that I hope you don't mind... " Tsunade looked embarrassed but Rakashyn smiled and shook his head. "Its fine. I enjoy hearing such an old namesake that he used. Especially from you... Tsunade. " Rakashyn somewhat smirked and had Naruto taking nervous glances between them as Tsunade blushed and turned toward the window to cough before turning around as her color returned to her face. "So... um... Raka... You intend to train Naruto and I'm assuming Gaara to become the first pair? " Rakashyn's face visibly registered suprise and he gave a thoughtful glance toward the floor. "This complicates things... I was not aware that the other was a male as well... The blade practically merges the emotions of the two into one, by their consent and it was suggested in the texts that the pair be able to coop... as a 'pair.'" Naruto's face flushed bright red and Tsunade stifled a chuckle. She began to speak without censoring herself for Naruto, "Oh I don't think that will be a problem for this one Raka... He was the only boy in the history of the academy to 'accidently' kiss his team mate-which was a boy." After she said it Naruto turned toward her and growled, fists clenched and face redder than a baboon's ass as both she and Rakashyn began to chortle loudly. "It was an accident and for your info Granny I'm not into guys! Maybe you should keep your comments in check before I throw you under the bus to Raka-sama?!" "Oh don't worry about that Naruto... You don't have to, " Rakashyn said as he looked at Tsunade heatedly, causing her to pull her blouse back a bit from her neck and turn toward the window again, "but yes if you choose to recieve this training from me you and Gaara might not get much choice in the matter... The blade causes you to become your partner's literal soul mate as intimately as can be imagined... Like the stories of old where rider and dragon's souls were merged to one another you will feel lonely and detached when the other is far from you and only normal when they are near. Before you decide to come with me to acquire Gaara's answer you should think about that... " Naruto looked down at the floor and blushed a bit, thinking about the concept. He truly never thought about anyone other than Sakura intimately and even that didn't last. She ended up with Rock Lee, one of his young friends, after Lee saved her and continued trying to court her. Naruto had not tried to be with anyone since. Strangely it wasn't the fact that Gaara was a male that disturbed him, but the idea of being pushed into the feelings for him. He didn't like not having a choice in the matter. He thought back to what Raka-sama said before, about responsibility being kind to those who have it. He thought about Jiraiya's wishes for a hateless world, and finally about Sasuke's turn from the Hidden Leaf. "I will accept the training and all that it entails, but on one condition, " Naruto said as he looked back up to Rakashyn. "What is your condition?" "If I'm going to do this, Gaara has to be willing to as well and we get time to get used to the idea and to each other so we don't screw this up. What if we decide we couldn't stand one another and end up killing each other to remove the pull between us? If we can't get along there is no point in trying to force either of us... Even the strongest power couldn't force me and especially Gaara to deal with something he doesn't want to. " "I never intended to push either of you into this. Had you not wished it I would have become the first candidate myself with another... " he said, looking to Tsunade before back to Naruto. "I will give you the time you require after we hear Gaara's answer, but now you will hear my conditions... If you become my apprentice I expect the same loyalty and respect Jiraiya had in training you. You will devout yourself to it and its purpose. Nothing else matters, and especially any trivial exploits you had planned up until now assuming there were any. Should you complete your training you will take on the sword in my place so that I can retire from this mission after twenty-five years since accepting it. I gave this nation and this world enough of my life and do not wish to continue allowing it to wither away without enjoying it. Do you accept?" Naruto thought about it for a moment and then nodded, reaching down to shake Rakashyn's hand as he in kind reached out and shook his. "Good, now lets go find your partner!"Naruto laid up in his bed, arms crossed above his head, tapping the wooden headboard of the furniture in sleepless annoyance. He couldn't sleep thinking about what he was about to work toward. Finally, an answer to Pein's question, to Jiraiya's question, and to his question.... A way to remove the hatred in this world... It was a dream he could not sleep thinking about. If he was successful everything would get better in this country to start, and then in this world. After he became Hokage he would truly be the 'Greatest Hokage the Hidden Leaf Ever Knew.'
Then he began to cry, harder than he'd ever cried before. He'd lost so many friends, and so many elders to the fighting in this land over power, and himself. Jiraiya, Asuma, Sasuke, and even Kakashi were gone and could never be brought back... Naruto gasped mid tear, and jumped up, throwing on his sandles still wearing nothing but his swirl crest t-shirt and pajama pants, moving quickly out the window and over the roof tops. He landed hard near the front entry to the Konoha memorial cemetary for Ninja. He looked up toward the middle of the area and saw who he knew he would. Rakashyn was standing before Jiraiya's grave, his blade-the Leviathan, drawn and gleaming with red chakra. He was crying... He wasn't loud but from that far away as Naruto made his way over, he could hear his choking sobs and gasps for air. The elder looked ready to fall dead right then and there he was so drained of energy from his face. Lines etched in his pain filled face, his eyes closed tightly as he mumbled to himself, "Big brother.... I should have.... never left... so sorry..." Naruto felt an intense wall of regret slam into his chest as he recalled questioning Raka-sama's love for his brother to his face so recklessly. He made his way up along side Rakashyn and stood, looking from him, to the sword and finally the grave. Rakashyn sucked in a breath and sobered his gaze, looking at the tombstone as he spoke, "He was always taking care of me... And the one time I could have saved him... I was off fighting for something I didn't even know existed... When I got word that he had been killed I nearly gave up, but fate wouldn't allow me to. The demon appeared and made his intentions known for the blade and I swore I would not let my brother die in vain and would find his killer and destroy him, " Rakashyn growled, the sword gleaming with intense flame before it softened as did his features before he looked up at Naruto and smiled, "but you already did." "Pein was his apprentice too, I felt it was my duty and ended up saving others Pein killed by speaking to him and reconciling his pain. Jiraiya would not have wanted his followers to die monsters and I made sure he didn't. I also know he wouldn't trade himself for you, or anyone for that matter. He died satisfied in what he did was right and you shouldn't dishonor him by killing yourself to bring him back..." Rakashyn sucked in more air, his tears drying. He nodded and reached back behind him, sheathing the sword. He gulped one more time and looked back to Naruto again, squaring his stance with the boy before nodding. "Thank-you Naruto... I needed to hear that. Whats more, I thank-you for avenging my brother and upholding his ideals in ways I could never dream to. You deserve to be called his God son." Rakashyn nearly fell back as Naruto slammed into him and hugged him. He patted his back as Naruto pushed back his tears and stood back from him to wipe his eyes. They both smiled and finally nodded. "So as my 'God nephew,' you could say... What do you say I treat you to something you'd like to eat...? Whats your pleasure?" "Well, " Naruto grinned and took Rakashyn by the shoulders, sauntering off with him, "there is this wonderful place with the best food in the world sold in it, ramen!" "Haha, well lets go have a couple of bowls and you tell me stories of my big brother while I was away. Did he become a worse pervert?!" "Oh, way worse!" They both began to laugh and as they walked off, the air rustled in the trees surounding the cemetary and the grass above Jiraiya's grave swirled a bit, the presence of another drifting slowly away into the night peacefully.Well, this is my first works after a long break. I hope everyone likes my original take on a continuing story between Naruto, Gaara and their soon to be master my original character "Rakashyn," whome is part of a novella I'm writing but merging into this plot for fun.
