First I'd like to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING! So yeah, I have no idea where this idea came from but it’s here now and that’s all that matters. I hope everyone enjoys it! For those who have already read it I made slight but kind of major changes so if you re-read, which i doubt, and see something you don't remember that's because I rewrote some parts. This is my first story so please comment and tell me what I did wrong, or on the rare occasion, what I did right. There’s a lot of comic relief but overall it’s meant to be filled with angst, so if that isn’t your thing I’m really sorry but I did try to balance it out. OH, and I’m looking for a Beta too so drop me a comment or e-mail me at We_Are_Heroes@live.com. DESPERATELY IN NEED OF ONE.

Chapter 1: The Past is Permanent

’Kit you have to let them go,’

Naruto was frozen, trapped in a fixed dazed that that none could pull him out of. In the past four and a half hours he had learned things about himself he would have never thought were possible. But now that he knew, to say the very least, he wanted nothing more than to keep the errors of his past. But he couldn’t and it killed him inside.

He had only himself to blame. He had been warned, but because of his belief that everyone had a little good in them, he ignored his better judgment. Forgiveness was a sin within itself. To forgive included completely shutting down common sense and letting one’s heart takeover. He learned nine months ago that his heart should never have authority over his body or bad things would surely ensue.

Idiot was a name that he had become very accustom to throughout his years, but it wasn’t until now he felt like he actually might be stupid. He was absolutely positive that no one else would take back a person who cheated on them constantly, no matter how close they may have been, and he was sure that no one with a working brain would allow said person, who also constantly abused them, back into their lives without question either. But the true idiotic action was allowing the bastard to impose on him in the middle of nowhere one fateful night. He gave him complete control without even thinking twice. But this one night stand would be one Naruto would never forget.

For years he tried to justify the love he shared with Sasuke. He honestly believed that it was too complex for others to understand. He reasoned Sasuke hit him because he knew Naruto was strong enough to take it. He used him, because he wanted Naruto to value their relationship. He humiliated him to strengthen his character. For every wrong Sasuke did, Naruto could always find something to rationalize it with. It was astonishing how long he kept up the charade with himself. One night it just clicked. All he was doing was giving Sasuke excuses to continue exploiting him.

He spent months gathering up the bravery to finally tell Sasuke no, and when that day finally came it changed his life forever.

Saying no was a major kill to Sasuke’s entertainment. Of course he was shocked, he didn’t even know that word was in Naruto’s vocabulary, but after his moment of confusion passed he just got angry, and after the anger faded, he didn’t feel anything. If Naruto wasn’t going to obey simple orders like a good pet, than Sasuke had no interest in keeping him. Naruto was the only thing that bound him to the leaf village, but now that he no longer sought interest in him there’s was only one rational thing to do. Leave.

Naruto’s heart simply died. He thought that if he could stop Sasuke from treating him so badly their relationship could finally be normal, but all he did was destroy it. He couldn’t live without Sasuke. He wouldn’t. He needed to get him back, and he would go to the pits of hell if the situation required it. If disobeying Sasuke meant that he would have to live apart from him then he would never disobey again. He chased Sasuke to the end of their village and he fought with him four hours trying to get him to see how much he loved him, but it was too late for that. Sasuke was leaving, and Naruto wasn’t strong enough to stop him.

When he woke up, bruised and battered, Sasuke was gone. The rain poured down on him, concealing his tears. He stayed at that place for several hours until Kakashi found him. He was on the verge of death but none of that mattered because he had nothing to live for. Every day he sat at home and just stared at the white walls. The madness in his broken heart was compelling him to end everything. He was going insane and didn’t even know it. He cut himself deeply trying to reinvent the pain Sasuke had caused him. Even with Kyuubi’s healing powers, if his mental state continued on like that he would surely kill himself.

Iruka being the highly concerned parent he was pushed Kakashi to do something before they lost their little angel. Kakashi decided to send Naruto training with Jiraya in the mountains. Hopefully some time away from the village would get his mind off of Sasuke. Naruto only went because he didn’t like Iruka worrying about him. He really didn’t want to go anywhere with the Ero-sennin though. He got over it eventually and focused on training as hard as he could. Slowly his heart was repairing itself and mending the damage Sasuke had caused.

Naruto and Jiraya’s time was coming to an end so for a final task he sent Naruto deep into the mountains by himself to “connect” with nature; really he just wanted Naruto out of the picture so he could sneak back down to the village and go find women. It was there that Sasuke found him. It happened to be a total coincidence, but Naruto wouldn’t let the chance to get Sasuke back slip from his hands. He begged for Sasuke to come back to the village with him, and Sasuke surprisingly agreed, but only under one condition: he had to give himself to Sasuke. Afraid to lose the person that was most special to him again, Naruto did exactly what he was told. The next morning Sasuke was gone, and the scars of his past had been reopened. It took them eight long months to get back to the village, and after he had gotten home a month later he found himself in the hospital going into labor.

Naruto suddenly heard a small whine from below. Two different entities, both weighing in around eight pounds each, moved slightly in his arms.

‘My kids Kyuubi, can you believe it?’ His voice sounded so strained.

The fox inside of him sighed. ‘Kit why are you doing this to yourself?’

Why? The answer was simple. He refused to let go of his children like he let go of their father. The two infants were the only things Naruto had left of Sasuke, and he’d be damned if he let anyone take them away. It wasn’t like he knew that he could give birth. So if that was the case then why should a product of something that technically couldn’t happen, thus didn’t happen, be taken away from him? The world he lived in was fucked up, too fucked up for comparison.

As if sensing his father’s stress one of the infants looked up at Naruto with his big cerulean eyes and just smiled, his soft cheeks curling with amusement. He grabbed Naruto’s hospital gown with a tight grip, trying to make his way up Naruto’s chest. Not being able to hold himself up for long the baby boy lost his grip and plopped back down onto Naruto’s lap, waking his sleeping brother in the process. The baby who was just abruptly woken sent a death glare at the other bouncing and bright child. Naruto chuckled to himself. It was a genuine trademark of the Uchiha bloodline. The frightening look must have scared the curious one, causing him to cry uncontrollably.

“There there, Chibi-kun, he’s just playing. Your brother loves you, as much as I do.” Naruto cooed the small child, causing him to smile once again.

Naruto’s expression turned solemn. ‘I just can’t give them up Kyuubi.’

‘You have to Kit. Think about their future. They’ll always have to be hidden. If anyone were to find out that they were your offspring, the container for the Nine Tailed Beast, or Sasuke Uchiha’s sons, the accursed missing nin from the leaf village, they’d be killed. Do you honestly want your children to live a life of fear?’

‘I can protect them!’ He was in tears. He wanted to believe with his whole heart that what he said was the truth, but he knew it wasn’t. ‘I can protect them…’

‘Do the right thing,’

“I can’t!” Naruto screamed his aggravation as loud as he could.

The doors to his hospital room fling open, revealing a very flustered pink haired girl. “Daijoubu Naruto-kun?”

“Oh Sakura-chan…it’s you,” Naruto sat back onto his bed, rocking his now frightened twins in his arms.

“Mattaku, who else would it be?” The girl had just spent hours trying to figure out how to deliver a pregnant boy’s baby, and now said boy was screaming like a maniac in his hospital bed. For a second there she thought he may have been going into labor again.

The two baby boys quickly calmed down and slowly stopped their whimpering. Naruto exhaled in relief. He had taken care of them for less than a couple of hours and they were already his world.

“Have you picked names for them yet?” Sakura suddenly asked in a sweet tone.

Any other day this inhuman display of kindness coming from Sakura Haruno, could have been seen as the sign of the apocalypse, but that wasn’t the case today. She was the main medical assistant that helped Tsunade deliver his babies. Not once did she loose her cool or faint, as Ino and Hinata continuously did until they were eventually both asked to leave. She was encouraging and gave Naruto the strength he needed to stay awake during the procedure. When Tsunade told Naruto he couldn’t keep his children Sakura broke out in tears for him. It was the first time in both of their lives they had connected beyond the extent of teammates.

“Names? I was thinking about just calling them Chibi 1 and Chibi 2.” Naruto stated.

The vein in Sakura’s head looked like it was at its breaking point. “That is not acceptable Naruto! They are children not objects. Give them proper names or else they’ll hate you for the rest of their lives!”

The babies started to cry and so did Naruto. “Why would you say something like that!”

“Baka! It’s the truth,”

“Oi, no need for name calling,” Naruto tapped his hand on the desk next to him lightly, “names, names,”

“Saying it over and over won’t help you come up with something,” Sakura uttered.

Naruto took a look at both boys. The smiling ball of happiness to his left was definitely the cute one. He knew that the boy would grow up to be strong and adventurous just like he was. His unruly red curls that sprouted from his head matched the color of fire. Naruto found peace in this quality. He was truly a son of the Fire Country.

“Touga-kun,” he lifted said son up carefully, “This one’s name shall be Touga-kun.”

Sakura smiled. “Yosh, Touga-kun, now how about the other one?”

Naruto put Touga-kun down and stared diligently at Chibi number 2. The small infant stared right back as if it were a competition. Yes, this was definitely Sasuke Uchiha’s offspring. No doubt about it. His dark raven hair clomped together at the mid section of his head. This made Naruto chuckle. It was the starting formation of the infamous Uchiha cockatoo hair style. Almost as if the child could read his thoughts he nuzzled his head into Naruto’s abdomen, at first a cute and loving gesture, until Naruto screamed in pain.

“The fuck?! That little bastard bit me!” Naruto screamed distancing himself away from the giggling baby.

Sakura fumed and slapped Naruto harshly on the back of his head. “You do not call an infant, ‘little bastard’.

“What should I call him then, Satan Junior?” Sakura tightened her fist again. “Alright, alright already! I was just kidding. Saionji-kun, its perfect, starts with an S just like Sasuke.”

“Just because Sasuke’s name starts with an S it doesn’t have any sentimental value if you just pick a random name that stats with an S also!”

“It makes all the sense in the world! His name is Saionji-kun and that’s final!”

“What’s all the yelling for?”

Naruto and Sakura turned their attention to the blonde woman at the door.

“Tsunade-sama,” Sakura began, “Naruto was just giving the babies names.”

“Naruto, I told you once, don’t make me have to tell you again. You cannot keep them.” Tsunade’s tone was stern as she lifted the bottle of sake to her lips.

“You sound as if I were asking you to keep some strays I found on the streets. These are my children baa-chan, my fucking kids! You have no authority over them whatsoever.”

“Naruto I will not argue with you. You will give me the infants or I will take them from you it’s a simple as that. You’re in no state to fight me.”

Naruto opened his mouth ready to protest to her statement, but he couldn’t. It was true. He couldn’t fight back even if he wanted to. Even with Kyuubi’s rejuvenating powers the amount of blood he lost was fatal. Since he was a man there was an entry point for fertilization but no exit point. The only thing they could do to get the babies out was cut him open and hope for the best. He lost so much blood in the process due to the c-section it was hard for Kyuubi to keep up. He was totally helpless. If he asked Kyuubi to stop healing his wounds and help him fight off Tsunade he would die, losing his children in the process. If he didn’t ask for Kyuubi’s help and fought Tsunade off using his own power he would most likely still die, and lose his children. Every scenario he could think of involved losing what was most important to him.

“Damnit baa-chan it doesn’t have to be like this! Just let me keep them. We can protect them, together. The village doesn’t have to know. Please Tsunade,” Naruto didn’t know what else to do. He was begging, pleading, with his whole being hoping that Tsunade would give in and allow him to keep his children.

Tsunade walked over to him without hesitation, which caused Naruto to instantly panic. He held his children close to his side tightly, giving her a death glare that blatantly said ‘if you don’t back the fuck up I will find a way to kill you.’

“Such an evil expression Naruto-kun. Sakura give him a sedative,”

Sakura didn’t move. Her hands started shaking violently. She couldn’t do this to Naruto. All of his efforts would have gone to waste. She was a woman, a child, whose mother loved her and still did. She understood where Naruto was coming from and because of this she just couldn’t help take away his soul.

“Sakura give him the sedative now, or he will struggle and loose even more blood. You don’t want him to die now do you?”

This caught Sakura’s attention. Tears started to form under her eyelids. “I’m sorry,”

:Sakura don’t, please Sakura-chan,”

He couldn’t believe it. Sakura had completely turned. He was done for. His children would be taken from him. Everything would end. But just as Sakura brought the needle close to his skin, Naruto could see it, and in that moment she lunged at Tsunade stabbing her with the needle hidden under her sleeve.

“Sakura, you—,” Tsunade stuttered before her body hit the floor.

Naruto just stared at the pink haired girl with amazement. She saved him, and in the process she had to hurt her sensei. “Is she… dead?”

“Of course not! Why would I kill the Hokage do you think I’m stupid, baka,” she yelled, slapping him across the head yet again.

“Oi,oi, but you did basically knock her out so don’t you think it bares the same consequences?”

“Don’t say things like that Naruto!” Sakura started pulling at various strands of her hair. She hadn’t thought about it that way. Actually, no thought went into the whole stabbing Tsunade-sama with a syringe thing at all. It just kind of happened.

“Gomen, but now what are we going do?”

This was something Sakura did think about. “We’ve got to run.”

“Are you crazy? Where are we supposed to go? Tsunade will send her Anbu after us as soon as she wakes up. And if you haven’t noticed there’s a fucking whole in my stomach,” Naruto was grateful and all that Sakura had saved him but her plan didn’t seem to be too smart even by his standards.

“Calm down. The wound will heal in no time. You’re going to go to Suna with Touga-kun, and stay with Gaara for awhile until things cool down here. Tsunade won’t send Anbu after you because of our alliance with the Sand Country. Besides she really does care for you Naruto, she’ll let this go believe me,”

Naruto thought about it for a second. He hadn’t seen Gaara for awhile so that was a plus and Suna was a pretty safe place, but why did the plan only include Touga, what about Saionji?

“I’m not leaving Saionji-kun here.”

Sakura smiled gently. “I’m not either. Saionji-kun will go with me to the outskirts of the Sound Country.”

“Why would you pick the Sound Country to flee to? It’s too dangerous, and there’s no need for the twins to be separated. Just come with us Sakura, Gaara won’t mind you know that,”

Sakura knelt down next to Naruto and kissed his forehead. Naruto looked up at her slightly baffled, then winced as he felt something prick hm. He stared at the syringe sticking from his arm. He couldn’t move. All he could do was watch as she took Saionji from his hands.

“One day you’ll understand why I did this Naruto. Hopefully its one day soon. Don’t worry, the sedative will only make your body numb for about ten minutes so you won’t be able to move for a bit, long enough for me to get a head start. You won’t have enough time to get away from Anbu if you chase after me though. Follow the plan, go to Suna with Touga-kun. Saionji will be fine with his father. I’ll make sure of it.”

It was only then Naruto understood what she was planning. “Sakura don’t! He’ll kill you! There won’t be time for an explanation! Don’t do this Sakura. Sakura!”

************************************

Naruto woke with sweat dripping down his face. It had been a long time since he had a dream about Sakura. The thought brought back a timid smile. He wiped the drool from his mouth and sat back in his chair. It was embarrassing really. He was Hokage now but his lack of posture and excess of bodily fluids didn’t make him look like such at all. He sighed. What a life. Papers piled upon papers crowded his desk. There were only so many paper airplanes one could make.

It still amazed him that he was able to become Hokage in the first place. One would think after fleeing a nation for several years this feat would be impossible. But Tsunade made it very clear who she wanted her successor to be. After the fight with Pein, she became ill and the question of who would become Hokage in her stead was posed. Naruto, who had come back from Suna only to protect his birth place, was instantly elected because of his great display of heroism on the battlefield. He took the offer without a second thought. It was his dream after all.

He asked Gaara to gather his belongings and send them to the leaf village. He was finally going to return to the place he ran away from so long ago. Finally going back home should have been the happiest thought in the world, but facing Tsunade after she woke up would definitely be hard for him. Over the years he desperately wanted to go back and apologize to the woman he considered to be a mother but as fate would have it, he would never get his chance. Tsunade died in her coma.

The leaf village he knew had changed. The Hokage he grew up with was no longer there, and the strong kunoichi he fell in love with during his Genin years was presumed to be dead. For the sake of the dear women he lost he declared that he would morph the village into a safe place his son could live in without fear. It was a hard goal but it would be accomplished. Touga deserved it, and so did Saionji. Naruto never forget the face of the small infant he had learned to love in only a few hours. Someday they would all be reunited.

“You can’t go in there right now, Hokage-sama is very busy at the moment and… are you even listening to me, stop!”

‘Oh no.’

“Hokage-sama!”

Enter his loud mouth son Touga Uzumaki.

“Papa, Touga-kun, call me papa, remember?”

“More like Baka! Do you have any idea what you have done?”

Naruto scratched his head. “Nope, no idea whatsoever.”

“Baka, you threw a surprise birthday party for me without telling me!”

“Surprise!” Naruto shouted, finding Touga’s aggravation very amusing.

Touga looked bugged eyed at his father. How in the world could anyone be so stupid? “Did it ever occur to you that if I didn’t know about the party I would never show up for it? People were at our house for over an hour waiting for me and I had no idea. Lucky my mission got done early so I decided to go home first only to be bombarded by the entire village! I mean really who didn’t you invite?”

“Gai-sensei, but that’s beside the point. Seems like everything worked out in the end so if you excuse me your Papa is very busy—,”

“No the fuck you don’t! You are going to go home and tell all of those people how stupid you are for planning such a bad party,”

“Touga-kun watch your mouth, Mattaku what are they teaching you nowadays?”

“Not to be an idiot like our ‘fearless’ Hokage,” Touga stated

“I am not an idiot, nor do I have any fears,” Naruto contoured. It was a shame that a father and son got along in such an unmannerly conduct, but it couldn’t be help. Touga was a growing adolescent and Naruto was an adult who never grew up.

Touga came closer to his father’s desk, knocking down the huge stack of papers before him, “If you weren’t an idiot than why are you making paper planes out of A rank missions? And if you were fearless why did you have me check under you bed for the ‘creepy thing’ as you call it, every night?”

“Kuso! That was an A-rank mission? Ino-chan is definitely going to kill me… And don’t insult the ‘creepy thing’ or else it will eat you in your sleep!”

Touga had enough for one day. He was surprised he lasted so long in the first place. Without a second thought he lunged himself as his father, shoving him to the ground. The two men broke out into a tumbling fist fight, which really couldn’t even be called a fist fight. Touga had stuck his fingers in Naruto’s mouth opening the orifice as wide as he could, and in return Naruto had latched onto Touga’s unusually long ponytail, pulling down on it harshly.

Naruto fought with Touga all the time. Touga was an audacious and defiant child every since his youth. The normal parenting routine wouldn’t be enough to calm Touga’s wild spirit by any means.

************************************

“Papa, look, look, I’m up so high! I’m a bird Papa,”

Naruto almost had a heart attack as he watched his three year old son try to balance himself up in a tree that was ten feet off of the ground. Touga wasn’t the brightest kid in class. He thought that all the letters in the alphabet were the same, he was afraid to go to the bathroom because he thought it led to another dimension, and the only way you could read what he wrote was if you held it up to a mirror. Of course, he would pick up on tree climbing skills easily though. Anything that was life threatening and dangerous he excelled at.

“I see Touga-kun but you really need to come down now, you could hurt yourself up there,” Naruto calmly yelled.

“I don’t wanna ,” Touga responded stinking his tongue out at Naruto from above.

Naruto felt as if a ton of bricks had hit him. Arrogant brat…

“Touga Uzumaki come down right now or else!”

Touga simply swung his butt from side to side. “No way, you can’t make me,”

The childish banter made Naruto burn with anger inside. It was just like him to get so flustered over simple behavior. “I am not playing young man get down from the tree right now!”

“Yada!”

Naruto was slowly losing hope. Last time Touga had gotten the bright idea to climb up somewhere high it had taken him days to get him down. Raising a child was stressful. Suddenly a strong gust of wind blew, causing Touga to lose his balance. In a mere second the three year old boy was falling to his doom, but instead of having the obvious parental reaction, which was catching the toddler before he could hurt himself, Naruto let him hit the sand.

Touga slowly pulled himself off of the ground and sat on his butt looking at his hands that had been scrapped up due to his fall. He’s eyes started to tremble as the sight of his injury made him feel the pain. Touga was crying before Naruto could blink. Naruto simply shook his head. It was Touga’s own fault that he got hurt. Maybe now the boy would listen.

Naruto stood beside him lowering his body to mash his son’s unruly red hair, “What did you learn?”

Touga glared up at the man who he saw as the main source for his pain, “Baka!” With that he stood and kicked his father in the shin and ran off laughing uncontrollably in the distance.

************************************

“Hokage-sama we have a problem, there’s been a breach—,” Shikamaru stood at the door in utter shock. The Hokage’s desk was upside down and spilt right down the middle, papers were everywhere, and the Hokage himself was currently on top of his son punching him repeatedly in the head.

“Troublesome…” Shikamaru thought about leaving the men as they were but there was a problem that needed to be attended to right away, “Hokage-sama,”

Naruto stopped bashing his child and directed his attention towards one of his best friends, “Oi, Shikamaru what’s up?”

“An opening!” Touga shouted, freeing his left arm from underneath Naruto’s body and giving him the uppercut of a lifetime.

“Why you—,”

“Would you two stop!”

It was very rare for Shikamaru to yell but when he did people tended to listen to him. Both men nodded in accordance and said in unison, “Gomen,”

“Now, as I was trying to say before, there has been a breach at the gate. We are taking various methods to keep the assailant at bay but we fear that he will break our formation soon.”

Naruto raised in eyebrow. Who in the world could cause Shikamaru to be concerned about one of his battle formations? “Well who is it Shikamaru?”

“I don’t think this is the right time to—,”

“Shikamaru I’m the Hokage I demand you tell me who it is immediately!”

“It’s Sasuke, he’s back,”

Naruto’s heart sunk. “What do you mean he’s back?”

Both of his legs gave out and he fell to the floor. He thought he would be able to handle it when he heard those words, but it had been sixteen years. Sixteen years. He waited so long. And now Sasuke was back. He wanted to feel happy. He wanted to rush to where he was but his feet wouldn’t move. Something felt so wrong about this. Why would he just come back so suddenly? It didn’t make sense. There was nothing special about today. Aside from the fact that it was Touga’s birthday nothing else was happening in the village. Almost everyone was back from their missions so the village was heavily guarded at the moment. So then why?

“That’s not all, he isn’t alone. He’s with a younger boy also. Our Intel unit reported that his name is Saionji,”

’Saionji…

Naruto blanked for maybe a millisecond before realizing that his sixteen year old, who had been obsessed with finding his biological father and brother since he found out about them, was in the room. Now he understood why Shikamaru didn’t want to tell him who it was. He quickly went to grab Touga before he could get away, but it was too late. He was already gone.

“Dann it! Tell everyone to retreat from the front gate at once,”

Shikamaru chocked at the command. “I honestly don’t think that’s a smart idea Hokage-sama,”

“I can’t afford for the entire village to know about Touga and Saionji just yet. You must understand Shikamaru. I will go and get Touga myself and deal with the Uchiha problem. Just call everyone back,”

Without another word Naruto was off. He wasn’t even thinking about how he would be face to face with his past soon. His mind was on something much more pressing. As it stood currently, his son was in danger and that was all that mattered to him. He sped up reaching the gate with a minute to spare. Every ninja had left by now and all that stood in front of him was both of his sons and the man he once loved.
