Timeless Escape
Chapter 01
Perhaps he was losing it.
At the time, it seemed like an undermined attack.
"I've underestimated you," allowed the Yondaime. He skimmed his eyes over
himself in a quick survey and found no external injuries that resulted in
flaps of flesh torn open," but I think I've learned my lesson now." Seeing
the end of a leaf stem stick out from a top his head, Minato
sighed and picked the stray leaf from
his golden locks and stared at it dejectedly. Reminding him, that yet
again, nothing seemed to be going right for him these days.
Releasing it, the frail leaf fluttered to the ground to join the others.
Brushing off the remaining leaves that covered his red-white flame
overcoat from his tumble in the colorful leaf pile, Minato stood slightly over, winded.
Checking on his abdominal, the young Konoha leader found that it was surprisingly
sore.
It was unusual to get anything pass him, considering he was the Yellow
Flash but when the young man surprised him with that thundering kick to
his mid-section, he had been too busy canceling the youth's attack to take
notice of it, or so he told himself.
If he was half honest to himself as he was to his consultants, what was
really troubling him and made him more susceptible to incoming enemy
attacks was the growing absence of fidelity in his own soldiers ranks and
the unexplainable deaths of a number of high classed citizens that his
village had on a number of occasions did services for in the past.
Standing across from this mysterious stranger that seemed to appear at
the worse possible time, Minato stated again his request in a more leveled
tone, "If you would please, you will need to accompany me back to my
village. You do understand why I'm asking this of you?"
As Minato awaited for the younger man's next plan of action, he was
surprised when no further attempt was made against him.
Then, a thought struck him, that wouldn't be far from the truth.
Maybe the reason why the young man wasn't attacking him any longer was
because he had injured him in the last attack, while he had been
distracted.
He did land a hit and possibly with more force than was necessary, if he
hadn't kept his strength in check.
Throwing all precaution out the window, Minato criticized himself of
his foolishness to be so close, as he sat down on his hind legs and placed
his hand on the young man's arm to see if he'd trigger a response since
the young fellow seemed to be dazed.

Kakashi was confused.
It was like waking up from a dream and to add to his discomfiture, his
head was killing him. It felt like he had been struck by a stray lightning
bolt or by one of Gai's massive kicks.
Massaging his temple, Kakashi surveyed his surroundings only to
intensify his headache by the blaring of the sun glaring into his exposed
eye. The last thing he could recall was that the Third Hokage had summoned him to meet
in his office at the Hokage Tower but by the looks out
it, he wasn't anywhere near there.
For that matter, Kakashi seemed to be outside in the wilderness and as
the pounding became unbearable, that's when it hit him.
The reason why he was having such a terrible headache was because his
Sharingan eye was trying to warn him that he wasn't alone, either.
As Kakashi reviewed this disturbing fact, he didn't try to hide as his
uncovered facial features hardened or the snarl that formed on his lips
underneath his mask as the welled up feelings of possible danger surfaced.
Only to disintegrate, when his arm was touched rather lightly by a hand,
as a familiar feeling washed over him.
Masked face softening, Kakashi felt himself relax by the touch on his
arm. He shook free and at that moment, Kakashi wanted to know whom was by
his side that brought such an easy-going feeling.
Squinting up at the person possibly responsible, all Kakashi saw was a
yellow head and as for the first person that flicked in his mind that had
a yellow yet spiky head of hair, was his prank-prone student, Naruto,
which may have explained why he calmed down, "Naruto,...is that you?" he
asked, uncertainly. Kakashi gasped in surprise when his own voice came out
broken and dry. Licking his lips nervously, he waited for the teen to
reply back to him.
"Huh?" blinked the Yondaime, taken aback. He released his grip on the
younger man and regarded him once more but more carefully, "You seem to
have me mistaken with someone else." How does he know Naruto?
Except, for Kakashi, as he realized with stark clarity, the voice was
all wrong. Too smooth and quiet to be his noisy and energetic student. So
maybe it wasn't Naruto after all. Maybe, it was - As Kakashi shoo'ed away
the inkling feeling of whom it was, he was glad his vision began to clear
up for him.
The blurs of color became shapes and faces, and Kakashi shot up with
lightning speed by the stunning result.
Kicking off the ground with a spurge of chakra concentrated at his
feet, Kakashi launched himself into the air, away from where he previously
sat and creating the much needed distance between the recognizable man
that had been moments ago been squatting in front of him.
Lifting his leaf protector that was slanted over his left eye, Kakashi
revealed to the imposter his Sharingan eye!
Suffice with the distance he created, Kakashi landed on his knee and
shut his other eye. He placed a great deal of concentration into his
Sharingan, to only come up with nothing that explained the man before him, that looked
like his sensei.
Suspicion instantly grew to whether this truly was his dead
master or if this was an enemy from a blood limit clan that could overcome
his Sharingan and transform into a replica of his master.
After all, the death of the Yondaime was common knowledge all around
the Shinobi villages.
So Kakashi waited, suspended in indecision, while clutching at his
shuriken holster strapped to his thigh. His fingers became sticky with
sweat and they twitched even at the slightest move made by the other man.
Kakashi was ready, if needs be, to strike; by pulling out a handful of
the pointed ninja stars without hesitation and end this with the man's
death.
Still, there was doubt deep in Kakashi's chest and he instead
concentrated on trying to calm the contracted organ that beat noisily
against the bone platelet of his chest, but failed as it also resulted in
blocking the slight movement of sound from his hearing, with the rush of
blood to his ears; so instead, he used his honed senses and narrowed in on
any change of air currant.
Air flared from his nostrils under his mask, and created a dampness to
the navy blue cloth. His chest heaved in distress and even his breathing
was unstable. He cursed his own foolishness for allowing this man to see
how much his master's appearance affected him. He tried to calm down and
to steady his breathing in an even manner, but it was to no avail.
The man that looked like the exact replica of his master, peered at him
and Kakashi became more ill at ease. Waiting and waiting when the attack would
come.
"I don't think that was very wise on your part. In your condition,
moving is a strategical error. Here, why don't you allow me to assist you,"
said the man that looked like his sensei, as he took a step towards him,
"Then, I can also take you in and this will all be over. Especially, if
this was a misunderstanding."
Instinctively, Kakashi pulled out 3 shuriken, but paused, tilting
his head in thought.
In a blink of an eye, the man stood before him no more and Kakashi
found himself being held from behind by his arms. The man that looked like
his sensei had his hand on his shoulder, with a kunai pointed at his
throat. As he wearily countered the attack, the shuriken that he had in
his gloved hand was knocked out by the kunai that had been pointed at his
neck and to his disbelief, Kakashi was brought close to the man that
resembled his sensei's face.
Forgetting he was copy ninja Kakashi and that he had a whole bunch of
ninjutsu at his disposal to take this imposter down, he stared at him in disbelief.
The man that looked like his sensei had a funny expression written all
over his face and Kakashi look confusedly at him.
"Why did you do that? I wasn't going to harm you." the man that looked
like his sensei, asked.
The man's grip on him neither increased nor decreased. Instead, Kakashi
was pulled closer and found himself reaching out. Grabbing onto the man
that resembled his sensei's shinobi vest to steady himself.
Then a thought hit him.
Kakashi wasn't sure if it was from the close proximity effecting him by
giving him this plausible explanation that formed in his mind but that's
right, if memory served him correct, after he had been summoned, he
stopped at the Scroll Room that the Hokage had closed off. He had needed a
document that had been locked away in the room that had been closed for
renovations. He must of activated a scroll and was either in a different
time frame or dimension. Either created by the Third Hokage or possibly by
Jiraiya.
But before he could stop himself, Kakashi spoke what he hypothesized,
"What is this place... are you for real?" he found himself looking up at
the man that could well be his sensei, if he was indeed correct with his
hunch.
Still, Kakashi couldn't help but be confused and thrilled at the same
time from the possibility.
Am I real... 'What a strange fellow to ask that,...' The Yondaime
answered, although he was a bit baffled by the strange question, "Hai, I'm
as real as you are. This is Konoha village and I happen to be the Hokage."
'Oh.' "..." 'So this was what he suspected.'
"May I ask who you are?" His master asked him in return and Kakashi
wasn't sure if he should tell his master or not. After all, his younger
self should exist in this dimension if either the Third or Jiraiya kept
everything the same. He'll just have to avoid himself awhile but Kakashi
was still curious as to what year he came during. He even had the perfect
question to clarify what he wanted to know.
"Can I ask you something first," This was it. Now or never,
Kakashi thought to himself.
"Alright, if that's how I can receive your name," chuckled his master
but the smile flattened out just as quickly and Kakashi was staring at his
master's stern face yet again.
He was a bit nervous and he guessed his master figured it so he
softened his features just a bit. "Do you have a son?" Kakashi licked his
bottom lip from under his oral mask and was slightly wearisome of the
answer he would receive.
His master seemed very thoughtful of the question he asked and Kakashi
wondered whether he should of asked or not.
"... It's no secret that I have a son but only a few know of him. But
to answer your question, hai, I have a son. One, to be exact."
Alright, at least his master told him instead of refuse. Kakashi
wondered how much further he could push this. He still didn't know quite
which time era he was in but it couldn't be more than a day that the nine
tail fox demon would attack the village.
Unless,... "How old is your son?" Kakashi found himself asking. He
wanted to be sure.
Kakashi shivered when his master shifted against him and he found
himself pulling back the tiniest bit.
Instead, his sensei's eyes grew suspicious towards him, "You said the
last question I answered would privilege me your name."
True, he had said that but- "I will. Just-" Maybe it wasn't possible to
know. He had after all promised his master he would tell him his name,
although Kakashi really didn't want to.
"He's 12. My son is 12."
Not expecting to be told Naruto's age, Kakashi looked up at his master,
not believing his ears. He just stood there still in his masters hold
until he collected his bearings.
So this is an alternative universe created without the Kyuubi
attacking the village. Interesting,...
No wonder the Third Hokage or Jiraiya sealed off this room. It was to
protect the world of its existence. After all, those two were the only
ones powerful enough to pull this off.
But how exactly was he supposed to get home? Kakashi really didn't know
how he got here in the first place except that he somehow triggered the
sealed scroll into activation by something he did.
"So, does this mean you're not going to give me your name?" chuckled
his master, ill-humorlessly, reminding him of his promise.
Riiiiight,... sighed Kakashi, "I'm Kakashi." he gave into his end
of the bargain but was still very anxious, as his name wasn't a common
name. Nor were his looks and of him having the Uchiha Sharingan eye.
Except, if his master was surprised by his declaration, he didn't show
it but instead replied in an amiable voice, "That's funny, because I have
a student named Kakashi."
"Yes, I know,." he replied back absent-mindedly and then realized he
slipped and felt much like the ass Asuma always joked him of being when he
became flustered over asking Iruka-sensei on a date when they weren't
first going out. After all, he shouldn't of known Kakashi was his master's
student, if he was new to this village unless he made up an alibi that he
was.
The Yondaime looked at him with a puzzled expression with his deep
azure eyes but Kakashi just remained smiling, even though internally, he
was sweating bullets as he tried to relax by his baka mistake.
With all the empty space in between the silence, Kakashi decided to
fill it in by using this awkward moment by smooth-talking his master into
not taking him down to the Konoha prison by his mistake-in-identity
crisis, "I'm sorry I attacked you. I just didn't know who you were." That
wasn't entirely a lie since Kakashi thought he was an imposter pretending
to be his master before he figured it all out.
"You have a leaf protector." His master pointed out, tracing his
forehead protector with his thumb.
Kakashi's eye widened in surprise. He forgot about that. Damn,...
How was he going to explain himself now?
It should be obvious to his master whom he really was.
"That's because I'm a Konoha ninja." he tried. Maybe his master won't
catch on, thought Kakashi hopefully to himself but he didn't count on it.
Kakashi slumped down in defeat and look at the blades of grass under
his feet. He couldn't look at his master now.
"I see. You must be new then," his master replied unexpectantly and
Kakashi's breath catched.
He's startled that his master hadn't figured it out yet but at the same
time Kakashi was relieved and joyous that his true existence was not
known.
"I,.. hai, I've just recently became a ninja." complied Kakashi without
a second thought, since the opening was given to him. He decided to fib
for now, adding onto what his master had said. Later though, he'll have to
make a record of his existence in this 'world' until he could figure out
how to return home or cancel the technique.
Whichever he figured out how to do first.
"Then,... you'll come back with me to the village for a different
reason. "
Kakashi was sure the original reason was to take him back to be
interrogated in the underground prison but he was thankful that he managed
to skip that by these knew turnabouts.
"Besides,.." continued his master, "It's not safe to be in the woods by
one's self." his master warned him, his protective nature shining through
and Kakashi had to smile at that fact.
"Alright." he agreed but Kakashi still wondered where he'd stay. He
would of took the moment to check if he had any yen on him but his master
was still standing close to him. He'll check later.
If the worse came up, he'll just have to camp out in the forest, away
from any onlooker's curiosity.
"Come, it's getting late."
"Hai, Yondaime." answer Kakashi without hesitation as he follow his
master into the make believe village.
