  He could feel
  the pain in his chest worsening as he coughed into his hand, blood pouring from
  his mouth like a red waterfall, into his hand, covering it. This was what he
  was waiting for, the chance to get to his little brother, to see how strong he
  was now, after all this time. The final blows had been dealt really. Susanoo
  was his final proper attack and even that had failed as he coughed. He knew he
  couldn’t survive for long, he had to pass it on and now, but how could he get
  so close to Sasuke.

  Look what I got, Itachi-nii!

  I can see, Sasuke. Be careful with it.
  

  “M-My Eyes...”

  A little later, Sasuke.
  
  His body hurt and his
  memories chose now to haunt him, but he knew he had done what he had to do, for
  the good of Konohagakure, for the good of his brother. It was not a time to be
  regretting any of it, he couldn’t take it back and he couldn’t turn around and
  leave now, not ever again. He moved closer to Sasuke and reached out a hand as
  though to take the younger brothers eyes, knowing the tale had been spun,
  gently prodding his brother on the forehead as he had used to do years before,
  when the one before him was much younger and much more innocent.

  Itachi-nii! Look what I can do!

  Maybe later Sasuke...

  His energy left
  him quickly as he did what he could to save his brother, passing on a gift, a
  proper gift. He dropped to his knees and hit his head against the wall behind
  his brother, not feeling any of the pain. His breathing was shallow and his
  life fading away as he slipped to the side and fell onto his back, looking up
  at the sky, that bright blue with the wispy clouds. His last vision of Earth.  

  He took a
  breath and exhaled, not taking another as everything began to fade.

  I love you Itachi-nii!

  ...I love you too Otouto.
