A/N: I’m done with homework for now, so I thought I’d start on this story that’s been bugging me. Naruto and Hinata keep telling me to write it in my sleep. Let me know what you think. J I’ll write it whether you like it or not.
Glaring, that was how I was going to get my point across. After all, I’m an Uchiha and that’s what we do, every last one of us. Maybe not uncle Obito, but there’s something very un-Uchiha like about him. I couldn’t understand why Sakura never got the hint. You’d think someone more or less ignoring everything you say or do would be enough to take the hint. I’d even become rude to her in the last week or so. Still, here she was babbling beside me at the lunch table. Just because we worked together and happened to have break at the same time didn’t mean that I wanted to eat with her.
I shook my head and turned my attention to the tomatoes on my salad as I closed my eyes in an attempt to keep the migraine away. I sighed audibly, causing Sakura to immediately begin questioning me as to whether or not I was all right. “I’m fine,” I mumbled. Sure the voice was laced with venom, but I knew she’d never really pick up on it and if she did it would be aptly ignored.
I looked up as I heard a loud crash off to my right and heard Sakura start laughing. I turned to see my brother Itachi covered in what looked like most of a smoothie from Orange Julius. I couldn’t help but gasp when I saw the person responsible for the accident. I don’t know that anyone else recognized the bassist from the, at least in this region of the country, obscure punk rock band Any Time the Fly.
Itachi looked like he was going to kill Hinata, but I couldn’t let that happen. I knew she was kick ass on stage, but she was shy in person. It wasn’t like I was obsessed with the band, that much. I just read anything I saw on them whenever I happened to come across it. I didn’t search it out on the net or anything. I stepped in front of Hinata and smirked at Itachi. “Not worth your time, brother.”
Itachi sighed. “She’s a moron who ruined my favorite suit. Who doesn’t watch where they are walking while they are holding a drink anyway?”
Hinata mumbled an apology behind me. I turned to see her cheeks furiously blushed. I smiled at her. She was beautiful, for a straight man. I was actually more attracted to their spunky, usually blond, lead singer Naruto. I looked back at Itachi. “Look, I’ll pay for your suit. It was an accident. Plus, if you kill her, I won’t be gone for that whole week next month for my trip to LA. She’s in the band I’m going to see.”
Itachi looked behind me. “Fine. I want that week to myself, so I’ll spare her. Don’t you have to get back to work?” He was smirking at me. I knew it was his way of trying to get me riled up, but unfortunately for him it rarely worked.
I shrugged. “What’s the old lady going to do?” I glanced at my table and noticed Sakura had gone back, on time I could only assume. “Besides, Sakura’s got it so bad she’ll cover for me.”
Itachi shrugged. “I need $500 for the suit. It’s more than that, but I know you’ve been turning down mom and dad’s money lately. I won’t take everything you’ve got.”
I smirked. I knew he cared about me, deep down. He just couldn’t ruin his image – Itachi the owner of the only PI firm in town. The man who would ruthlessly get any information from anyone for any reason, as long as the price was right. He had to keep up his appearance as a cold hearted bastard with nothing anyone could hold against him in blackmail.
It helped him out a lot that dad was the mayor here. We were in the states now, and there wasn’t any royalty here. My family had descended from a line of British nobility though. I think somehow we were related to the current queen, but I never really cared much. I didn’t fit into the ideals of the rest of my family. The money we had mattered little, though I wasn’t stupid enough to think that I didn’t need it. I still accepted the money for my living expenses from my parents. I didn’t make enough working as a part-time photographer and full time body artist to cover those expenses, but I did make enough to pay Itachi and go to concerts that caught my attention.
I smiled at Hinata before handing Itachi the money. “I’ll see you next weekend when you bring your things over.” Itachi was moving in with me for a few weeks while his gorgeous house was being remodeled. He could have lived in a hotel, but there was that connection between us that he never spoke of. He was looking forward to spending some time with me the same as I was with him.
He nodded and turned away. I turned to face Hinata. “Are you all right?” I asked her. She was still blushing and I thought it was adorable that she could be two totally different people.
She took a deep breath and forced the blush from her cheeks. “Yes, thank you.” She cocked her head at me. “You’re going to the LA concert?” I nodded. She laughed. “I think you’re the first person who has known who I am.”
I smiled again. It was such a rare sight that I knew I was getting strange looks from the people used to watching me from afar. I’m sure they all thought I was romantically interested in Hinata, but nothing could have been further from the truth. I knew I should be getting back to Tsunade’s photo studio. I didn’t really need the job; I would be hired anywhere almost instantly, but I loved working there. The atmosphere was relaxed and other than Sakura, the people who worked there were fantastic. “I’m the only person I know who listens to Any Time the Fly.”
Hinata nodded. I sighed. “I hate to do this, Hinata, but I am all ready late to get back to work. You want to come with me? We can talk on the way.”
Hinata tossed her mostly spilled smoothie in a garbage can and smirked. “Sure.” I admired her as we walked. She was wearing white and black. Everything from her mismatched shoes, knee high socks, mini skirt, and tank top. Her eyes were lined with black, which stood out against her white eyes. “So, what is there to do for fun around here?”
I blinked. She was talking again. I had spaced out while we were walking. It was nice not to be the only one who was a little punk rock for once. I shrugged, “Not much.” It wasn’t a lie. The town was small, maybe 20,000 people. We had a nice mall and one tattoo and piercing studio. Then there was a local coffee house and one nice restaurant. “One restaurant and one coffee shop. That’s where my friends and I usually hang out. Otherwise we’re at the tattoo studio.”
She smiled and laughed softly. “We’re here getting repairs to the tour bus and they told us it wouldn’t be ready until at least tomorrow. Apparently they didn’t have the parts we needed.” I nodded, not surprised in the least. “If I’m not being too formal, do you think we could hang out with you and your friends tonight?” She smirked, “Naruto gets to be a handful if he’s not doing something.”
I nodded, noticing we had arrived at Tsunade’s. “Well, I’m back at work. I’m here for the next three hours, but then I’m free. You just want to meet here?” Hinata nodded and waved as she continued down the mall, probably looking for the rest of her band.
Sakura sighed as I walked into the shop. “Where the hell have you been, Sasuke? Tsunade wants to see you right away.”
I sighed and nodded. “Hm.” It was all I ever said when I had to reply to her. For Sakura though, I may as well have said marry me and have my children. She always seemed so ridiculously happy whenever I replied to her in any way. I pushed the door to Tsunade’s office open without so much as knock. “Sorry. I heard you wanted to see me.” I frowned as I shut the door. I knew I was taking advantage of so many things with my attitude today.
She looked me up and down. There was a dress policy, but she let me get away with a lot. I knew it had nothing to do with my family, which made me extremely grateful. “Sasuke, you’ve been taking liberties with your break again. You’re not exactly dressed professionally when you wear all that black and those piercings, but you’ve always done exceptional work for me so I let it slide. Sakura’s been covering for you, but I want to know what was so important that you couldn’t make it back from your half hour break on time.”
I sighed. “Itachi was,”
“Oh,” she cut me off. Tsunade had met my brother only twice, knowing full well what it could mean when he came around. “What did he do this time?” The reprimand was gone from her voice, replaced by subtle amusement.
I smirked, “A girl from out of town bumped into him and ruined his suit when the smoothie she was holding spilled on him. I just wanted to stop him from killing her.”
Tsunade smirked in return. “Found a girl that interests you?” I shook my head. Tsunade knew of my sexual preferences. “So what made the coldest bastard around want to step in?”
I smiled. “She’s in my favorite band. I couldn’t very well take the trip I have planned to see the band if the bassist were killed now could I?”
Tsunade laughed. “Get back to work and don’t let it happen again. It would be hell on earth to try to find someone to replace you, but totally worthwhile if I don’t have to deal with this shit so often.” She winked. She wouldn’t have needed to because I knew she was joking.
Time dragged on as I stood at the counter, arranging photo displays. The store was always dead when I worked daytime, weekday shifts. Once in a while an older couple would come in or some high school student skipping school, but mainly there was nothing to do. I had school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I worked Tuesdays and Thursdays at Tsunade’s. My time at the tattoo parlor was random. If I was working, my friends would just hang out at the parlor, chatting with me between customers.
I looked up as I finished rearranging my sample portfolio on the back wall of the stupid. The store buzzer alerted me to the presence of a customer. My eyes met startling blue eyes. I nearly lost my cool. His hair was spiky and blond, just the way I liked it. He was wearing a fishnet top and baggy jeans which had faded some with wash and wear. His eyes were lined the same as mine. I saw the familiar piercings: three per eyebrow, two in the bottom lip (which looked extremely kissable), one in the septum, and six per ear. “May I help you?” I asked, winking at Hinata who had come in just behind Naruto.
