Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: so sorry, for those of you who were extremely attached
to this story, and ached for it to continue forever. However while trying to meet my nightly
updates, I did no real editing, as was apparent to me now that I’ve looked over
the story. So now, I give you the new,
and improved Call of the Fox!
Prologue: Fox's tale
The lush green trees overhead cast
an array of shadows on the ground below.
A red haired demon sat on one of the many branches, her three tails
dancing carelessly behind her humanoid forum. A soft sigh escaped her ruby
lips, her head cast back revealing her blue eyes to the endless sky. Her red
kimono fluttered in the slight breeze, the white roses along its length a sign
of her authority.
Hai, she had authority and plenty
of it. The leader of the kitsune yokai's
village herself. Nicknamed the
'Kyuubi-no-Kitsune' for her nine tails in her demonic form, a symbol of
indefinite wisdom and power. A low whine
was heard below the canopy of branches on which she sat. Casting her sapphire eyes towards the sound,
the fox grumbled as she spotted one of her advisors below, a rather stressed
look on her face.
A war had been going on between the
two villages, that is, the hidden village of the leaf, and the hidden village
of the fox. The war was not very
publicly known to either side, for it would cause one of the bloodiest battles
in history. Instead, Hoshinora, decided
to just fortify their own defenses yet it seemed to be proving of little avail. Although the humana, as they were known to
the fox, did not know of what they were doing, and as such not doing it on
purpose. To the humana, they were merely
hunting for spirit. Unfortunately, they
were hunting the civilians of the hidden fox village.
Many of the weaker fox demons,
although each stronger at birth than most elite humana jonin, many could
not switch between a humanoid form, a
fox form, and a fully demonic form until after their first century or so
of life.
And as such, many of the younglings were hunted, and killed, their skins
used as prizes.
Jumping from her perch, Hoshinora
barley grunted after landing from the 100 foot jump, her kimono flowing down
regally behind him. Each black rose, a
reminder of who he was. The fox peoples,
or the kaisune, to themselves, kitsune to those outside of their race, had a
purpose and a name for everything, and as peoples of the forest, loved it to an
extreme. Everything in the forest had a
meaning, especially the flowers.
Flowers were a symbol of power to
the kaisune, each flower a different level of power, and command. Roses, were
the highest court of power, for those who were given protection of the rose
were only the most powerful warriors.
The darker color the rose for a male, the higher his rank. The opposite was true for a female. Lilies were the second court of power. A blue lily, no matter the sex was a symbol
of extreme power as well, the only peoples who were given this honor were the
guardians of the rozars or the 'bearers of the rose' or a non-trained citizen
who made an extreme militaristic advance, and saved the life of another
kaisune.
Tulips were the last level of
power, where the vast majority of the kaisune population existed. As all kaisune males were trained in humana
ninja arts once they came of age, and when deemed battle
worthy, were given a tulip as a sign of achievement.
However, one sign, and one sign
only really mattered to any of the kaisune.
Their number of tails. A Kaisune
gained a tail in their demon form only when they have mastered one of the 9
courtesies of life and war: ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, charm, romance,
thought, cunning, logic, and most importantly of all, stealth.
All of the jutsu that humana knew
was originally a Kaisune's. Trusting in
the Humana, a few kaisune decided to share their secrets, and thus human jutsu
was born. Of course the Humana will tell
you a different story.
"What is it Kunori?" asked the fox Queen .
"My apologies Hoshinora, but we've lost another."
The Queen just shrugged, "Why should i care?"
The fox shifted uncomfortably. “It….. it…” Every time the poor fox tried to convey the
message, it couldn’t get passed the lump in his throat. After a while of this the queen finally said
“Spill it or I’ll spill it for you!”
“THE KING IS DEAD!!! THEY HAVE KILLED HITOMORI!!!”. Kunori ran after he conveyed his message,
his single tail tucked between his legs.
Hoshinora stood stunned, her blue
eyes starting to bleed red. It couldn’t
be true, it couldn’t! Her love couldn’t
be dead!! As her anger started to rise,
one thought passed through her mind. What happened to my boy?
Flashback, the night
before---------------
Hoshinora
stood a bundle in her arms. Scattered
blonde hair poked out of the bundle, a small hand reaching for its mother. Looking over at Hitomori, who only nodded
solemnly. Laying down the bundle at the
base of the hokage tower, the two fox disappeared in the night.
As
the two had cleared the village, Hoshinora turned to her husband, “Why?” she
asked. “Because… As I am hanyou, and you are a full fledged
demon, our son would be a disgrace to our race, as he would look more
human.” Replied her husband, a look in
his eyes that pleaded for mercy, and filled with sorrow.
“But…” Hoshinora started to speak, but she knew the
knowledge of which her husband spoke.
The fact that he was born from a kaisune woman and a humana male was a closely kept
secret. But their son would not be so
easy to hide. So they did the only thing
they could, putting all of the kitsune knowledge in his mind with an extremely
powerful and secret jutsu, so that he would know all and all about, his
kind.
But she knew he was
right. Their son deserved the good life,
for as a human with 2/3 demon blood, he’d be stronger than even the hokage, and
a savior among the humans.
“Goodbye my Naruto”
she whispered, as they turned and fled to their home.
End flashback-----
Hoshinora didn’t know what was happening. One minute she was cowering in self pity, the
next she felt her demonic side emerge.
Thrashing her nine tails, she leapt through the canopy, her destination
the hidden leaf village.
Fire and destruction were her reward, for after many hours
of fighting, she was finally laid down by the hokage, his life given up in the
process. And in a bright flash of light,
she knew no more.
Her last whispered breath: “Naruto”
