Staring up at her bedroom ceiling, Hinata’s mind was racing from the events of earlier that day. Just that morning she was training in the woods, just outside the old Uchiha compound, where she usually trained. She had been working on mastering a couple new jutsu that she had been busy developing during her spare time. And spare time was something she had a lot of here lately. Well something had apparently went wrong at some point because the last thing she remembered was going into her rotation and then she was waking up in a hospital bed later that afternoon. Sakura was there watching over her, and after Hinata explained that nothing serious had happened to her, and that she was just training, the pink haired medic ninja gave her a big lecture about not training all by herself anymore and that she needed to work on her chakra control to ensure she doesn’t expend so much next time. She went on to say how she was very fortunate that someone was there to find her right after her little mishap happened so that she was brought immediately to the hospital to safely recover and was not left out in the open. If the fiery kunoichi’s lecture didn’t already have Hinata hiding behind her hands shamefully embarrassed, finding out that none other than Sasuke Uchiha was the one that found her unconscious in the woods and carried her to the hospital, had her wishing that she was still knocked out and blissfully unaware.
Rolling over onto her stomach, she groaned into the pillow beside her. If having the legendary ex-rogue ninja of the famed team seven, Sasuke Uchiha, carry you like a small child through the village wasn’t cringe worthy enough, waking up to being lectured by the woman who is marrying the only guy you’ve ever had romantic feelings for was just awesome. Oh, and THEN having that very guy come busting in and ultimately making you park of the wedding party that you didn’t even want to go too, well Hinata would’ve paid good money for someone to have knocked her out again.
She really felt sympathetic for Sakura though. She probably felt the same way that Hinata was currently feeling, if not worse about the whole thing. Having Sasuke show up after so long, and then him and Hinata being thrown into the plans for her special day must be the very last thing she could’ve ever wanted to happen. Her and Sakura have always been friends since childhood, and have a special bond since they are both a part of the small group of kunoichis that have grown up together in Konohagakure. But as they matured into teenagers and into young adults, certain things made it a little awkward between them. Hinata never kept her feelings towards Naruto secret, and when Sakura’s feelings shifted from the Uchiha to finally reciprocate her blonde teammate’s feelings, the two kunoichis slowly started to drift apart. Hinata was completely fine with that. She understood and she definitely did not want to make things unnecessarily uncomfortable for anyone.
When everything blew up in the hospital room that afternoon, Hinata was very thankful that Sakura kept her cool, and told her how she would love to have her as one of her bridesmaids. Hinata could only nod in quiet agreement with a small appreciative smile, before she quickly slipped out of the room and proceeded to go hide herself in her small apartment.
All her nervous energy from the day was making her restless. Sitting up on the edge of her small twin sized bed, she glanced out the window at the slowly setting sun. Taking a deep breath, she needed to get out and clear her head. Hinata was never one to sit still for long, and with her anxiety level from todays past events being through the roof, she really needed to work all of this off. Jumping up, she slid her shoes on and headed out the door and began jogging her normal route up through the old Uchiha compound. Really picking up the pace, she focused on nothing but the sound of her feet hitting the pavement as she ran by the quiet, familiar buildings that she had grown accustomed to seeing everyday on her runs. With the sun disappearing into the horizon, most people would consider this vacant place erie, but too Hinata, this place reflects the village and how it was when she was a child. With all the new technological developments and the hustle and bustle of the village’s center, it is nice to still have a small piece of the past to retreat too when life seems to get so hectic.
Turning to run down a dirt path towards the very edge of the village, she slowed her pace as she passed by the historical Naka Shrine. It was one of the few historic sites that has lasted through the times of the fourth great shinobi war. Hinata has taken it upon herself to take her class on scheduled community service missions to help restore and maintain such historical places that still remain within the village. Admiring the large wooden doors of the shrine as she passed by, she started heading farther out into the surrounding forest. Breathing in the cool, comforting evening air around her, she lost track of time as she continued to run.
She finally came to a halt in front of a calm lake. Most people didn’t even know about this secret jewel hidden out this far into the forest. Most people didn’t even cross into the old Uchiha territory, let alone this far out. Hinata just stumbled upon it by chance on one of her many runs. Stretching her arms up above her head, she saw that the moon was full tonight, as it now sat high in the sky. The bright white globe reflected beautifully off the still water’s surface. Smiling to herself she quickly reached out to check for any chakra signatures. Just as usual, she was alone.
Unbuckling her wide black belt from around her waist, she unzipped the back of her shirt and slid it off her arms. Folding it neatly and placing it next to her on the ground, she followed suit with the rest of her clothing. Feeling the crisp evening breeze running along her newly exposed skin, she wrapped her arms protectively around herself as she stepped into the cool water. A small moan of pleasure escaped her lips as she submerged most of her body into the calm water of the lake. It felt amazing on her sore muscles after her long run.
Diving gracefully the rest of the way into the center of the lake, she swam to the bottom and pushed off with her feet to propel herself back towards the surface. Summoning her chakra to her feet, Hinata brought herself to a standing position on top of the water and watched as the water droplets falling from the ends of her hair created small ripples in the surface below her. Taking a deep calming breath she moved her glistening body into her gentle fist fighting stance. Not allowing herself to think, she just moved. She knew all the stances by heart, so she just let her muscles move on their own accord. While she danced along the water's surface, her mind brought forth a memory of her and her sister Hanabi practicing these very moves and their chakra control on their small pond’s surface inside their clan’s compound. This water dance was the only thing Hinata ever seemed to have mastered faster than her younger sister. She thought that her father would praise his eldest daughter for her show of skill, but instead it only lead to his criticism of Hanabi’s technique. Hanabi refused to train with her sister for a long time after that.
Pushing that memory from her mind, she closed her eyes and conjured up a happier one.

“You’re improving a great deal Hinata.” Neji said as he sat down beside her on a bench outside their favorite tea shop they visited after most of their training sessions. “With a little more practice, I believe that your speed level will soon surpass my own.”
“Thank you for your kind words brother,” Hinata smiled at her fellow Hyuga beside her. Neji was probably the only family member she had that actually cared about her. And even though they were from different branches of their clan, Hinata considered Neji her very best friend. “but I highly doubt that I will ever match you.”
“Hinata..” her smile faded a little at the seriousness of her dear friend’s tone.
“I’m not just telling you this to give you some empty compliment. You have improved a great deal, as you do with every training session that we have together. I am being completely honest when I tell you that if you keep at it, you will easily surpass my speed levels.” Hinata averted her eyes from his clinical stare, to look at the cup of tea she was holding between her hands.
“Your smaller, lithe build was made for speed and flexibility, whereas my taller, broader build ensures that my strikes will be more powerful. We each have our strengths as well as our weaknesses. That is true for each and every one of us in this world.” Neji reached out and took hold of Hinata’s chin to gently raise her eyes to meet his once again. They softened a little when a small embarrassed flush rose to her cheeks.
“Sometimes it is so much easier to focus on the weaknesses. We tend to forget that we even have strength at all.” Standing up to leave, he turned around briefly to meet her lavender eyes that are so very similar to his own. “You possess great strength my sister. But before you can find it, you must first believe it exists.”

That was one of the last conversations Hinata got to have with her Hyuga brother before the start of the great war. Before he gave up his life protecting Naruto and herself from an enemy attack.
“Be at peace now, my brother.” She whispered to the gentle wind as it rustled her hair as she glided along the crystal surface of the lake.
Opening her eyes, she saw that her rising emotions had her chakra radiating off of her in a soft purple glow. It was causing the water she was kicking up from her swift movements, to hover and spin around her. The glistening droplets formed a shimmering mist around her as the bright moon light shined through them. It took her until the very end of her dance to realize that she was crying. Letting herself slowly sink back down into the water, she let her tears continue to roll down her pale cheeks into the cool water that was gently lapping underneath the swells of her breasts. Looking up at the silver moon above her one last time, she wiped her eyes and made her way back to where her clothes were.
After fastening her belt back around her waist and tying her leaf village headband back around her neck, she slowly made her way back towards the Uchiha compound. As she exited the forest and started by Naka Shrine, she didn’t notice the dark figure sitting atop the great stone steps.
“Hinata Hyuga.”
He body froze in place while her head whipped around towards the unfamiliar chakra signature, and the direction from which her name was spoken.
“Who is there?” She asked with as much strength in her voice as she could muster after being so startled.
The black cloaked figure stood from the steps with a palm raised out toward her in a submissive gesture. As the figure slowly approached her, the moon light shined off a head full of shaggy hair, black as the night itself. Right as she was going to command for the stranger to answer her question, the individual’s head angled up to allow the moonlight to illuminate one of the most handsome faces she has ever seen. Hinata’s voice failed her as she watched the vaguely familiar man come nearer. Somewhere in the back of her subconscious her memories were screaming at her, but she was too distracted to listen to them. He finally stopped a few paces away from her. Lowering his outraised hand back to his side, the dark stranger spoke to her again.
“Sorry to have startled you, Hinata.” One black and one purple eye met her wide lavender ones as her brain finally registered who she was looking at.
“Sasuke...Uchiha…?” Her lips trembled as she forced them to say his name. A small, almost sad smile formed on his pale face as he gave her a small nod.
