Closing the door behind his friends, Naruto stood in the entry way of the apartment. The silence in the air washed over him and he closed his eyes letting it sink in.
It was the first time in days he’d had any time to himself where he was require to do anything, or be anywhere, or to be anything to anyone. A moments reprieve to sort through his own thoughts and feelings. He walked to the couch and flopped onto his back, staring up at the ceiling.
He and Sasuke fad fought the other night. It was the first time in many years that they had done so, and it worried him. Where they falling apart? He had often wondered how long they could really stay together in this world. And wondered even more often if Sasuke’s willingness to stay with him was merely obligation due to the guilt of their past. The same past Naruto feared would one day tear them apart. He loved Sasuke with all of his heart, but what were they? The past two years they hadn’t tried to define or label their relationship. They had just let it be what it was. But now Naruto was starting to wonder if maybe he needed that definition, needed to know what he really was to Sasuke. ‘I love you.’ Those three words had never been spoken between them, but Naruto longed to hear them, to say them himself, but if he was wrong and Sasuke didn’t feel the same it would ruin everything. Maybe he should have said it in the very beginning, before things had gotten this deep.
Sasuke had said that very morning that he didn’t care if people knew they were sleeping together. But what did that mean exactly?
Naruto groaned loudly in confusion and frustration and punched the back of the couch. The ceiling above him seemed to grow closer the more he stared at it, the more silence seemed to soak into his bones. He sat up suddenly, heart racing with anxiety, he needed to leave, to get out and go for a walk, maybe get some coffee, anything to distract himself from his own mind. Naruto grabbed his heavy orange coat from the hall closet and headed out the door.
His apartment being in the middle of the city Naruto had a lot of options when it can to finding a place to wander. He ventured up one street and down another making mental list of shops he’d like to explore and cafes he’d like to try. Maybe he could even drag Sasuke to a few. Around the middle of the fourth or fifth street he’d wandered down, he was stopped by a tap on his shoulder.
*AN: sorry this chapter and the last one are way too short, but I couldn’t make them flow right. I just wanted to thank everyone who has read the story to this point. It’s been a very long time since I’ve written anything and getting back into isn’t easy, so I really do appreciate it.
Next chapter will be one of, if not the longest, and will also contain lemon.
