Finally finished this chapter it nearly took me an entire week to write; I was struggling with it but I finally broke out of my writer's block and I'm happy. It has an interisting twist that I hope you guys will like. I don't think I've ever seen it used before but oh well. I think it'll get very interisting from now on. Mina/Naru is still my favourite couple. Enjoy my Duckies: ---------------------------- "Naruto? You are useless! The Yondaime Hokage gave us this jutsu to pass it on to someone who can complete it. You are the only one who can do it and yet you still cannot do it!"Naruto hung his head in shame; Ero-Sennin's words had cut a hole in his heart and Naruto knew they were true. He really couldn't do anything... "It's impossible!" Naruto sobbed; he hurt. His body was in pain and he was panting in exertion. In his mind he was screaming in pain as fiery chakra burned his chakra pathways and made him lose him mind and control; three tails of chakra swayed behind him. He was afraid; losing control of his mind when rage and hate flitted through him in a rush and left him screaming in pain and frustration as he attacked. "Not good enough! Control it Naruto; control it!" Naruto growled lowly in his throat; chakra lashing out and creating a large crater in the ground and destroyed the trees around him for a mile on end. Nothing was making sense anymore but Naruto still cried; his tears evaporating the moment they touched his cheeks - the rage in him hot enough to evaporate all of his emotions in an instant. He was angry with Jiraiya-sensei, he was hurt and it stung in his heart. The new emotional wound that broke his heart; he didn't need the Legendary Gama Sannin to tell him he will never be good enough; he knew it already. Why so much rage and pain? He was reeling with power and decided to use it; not flinching once when he felt his chakra cloaked hand slipped into flesh and the smell of blood invaded his senses. He had no sense of reality and yet he was calmly watching with pain as he nearly killed his sensei and managed to suppress Kyuubi before he really succeeded in his task. 'Please don't hate me!' Naruto's mind reeled; pain lancing down his spine when he realized just what he had done. Blood was all over him; when he licked his chapped lips it was even a coppery taste that invaded his senses. Naruto fell to his knees, screaming in distress and fear. What had he done? He had merely tried to impress Ero-Sennin; he never meant for this to happen. The world around him was crumbling; trees were destroyed, the earth was cracked and the walls of the town were completely disintegrated. Blue eyes widened at the sight that greeted him; had he really done all of this? "N...a...uto...wha..." Naruto sobbed; clutching at his head, he could still remember the screams that had spilled from the villagers. There had been so much blood, pain and hate. Not even Kyuubi's comforting words could calm his beating heart and the sobs that spilled from his lips; it was too much for his mind to process all at once. ~ "Who are you?" Naruto flinched violently; the hatred he saw in those eyes was alarming and it frightened him. He was clutching at his heart; fingers fisting in his bright orange jacket. All he was aware of was the pain of betrayal and fear; what had he ever done to deserve this? Why did rejection from this person hurt so much? There were so many questions and so little answers. "I am your friend! And I will drag you back even if I have to break every bone in your body to do it!" Naruto screamed; tears burning behind his eyes. Blood gurgling in his mouth as pain exploded behind his eyes; never knowing the pain of a single Chidori and a fatal wound. He lost his will; giving himself over to the demon fox beside him. 'Let me out kit! He's hurting you!' ~ "Naruto-kun; you chose death so prepare yourself!" Silver hair and glasses glinted in the sunlight as a kunai ripped through his left hand. His own blood splattered on his face as he protected the Godaime; pain exploding through him as he used the Rasengan for the first time. His heart was slowing; pain forcing a path through his veins as Kabuto's chakra scalpel managed to affect his heart muscles. A desperate sound escaped his lips; darkness curling around the edge of his vision. It really hurt; pain and fear were rife in the air; his world spinning around him. Why was he here again? Who was that blonde haired woman? Blue eyes fluttered closed as his heart stopped; Kyuubi's screams resounding in his mind for him to hold on but he couldn't. Not when he felt so exhausted. He wanted to curl in a little ball and sleep for a thousand years... ~ Impossible; why couldn't he hear anymore? Everything was imploding inside of him as power swirled above his head. 'You are weak Naruto!' Fearful blue eyes locked with another set of angered blue; he bit his lip until he tasted blood. His heart shattering into a million pieces. 'I'm sorry Tou-chan.' He sobbed softly; clutching at his heart. Nothing could heal the wound in his heart; he really felt weak and useless. He couldn't even save his best friend from a sadistic traitor. Naruto gripped his hair; he didn't want to hear. The sounds of Minato's words echoed through his mind. He couldn't stop the pain from exploding through him; he was deaf and the only voice he would ever hear is Minato's and he couldn't stop it even if he clapped his hands over his ears. 'I'm so disappointed in you.' Naruto cried; sobbing his heart out even when he couldn't hear the sounds he made. He only stayed alive for this man; locked his severe emotions away so that he didn't burden Minato and now he felt betrayed and afraid. He lost the most important person in his life through those words. He curled in on himself as he began trembling only to flinch back at the kunai that was now sticking out his back; severing his spinal cord and making his entire body go numb. 'Useless.' ~ Naruto curled in the corner; blood spread around the room and bathing it in a deep red. How had it gotten there again? Why were Papa and Mama not responding to him? He forgot; he couldn't hear or speak. He sobbed; tiny hands wiping away at his tears; tiny shoulders shuddering with his emotions. Was this all his fault? 'What have you done? I hate you!' Naruto tried to scream but not a single sound spilled from his lips; somehow even in his young state he knew those words would never leave him. Cold hands grabbed at his neck harshly; squeezing his throat and cutting off his air supply. No matter how much he fought he couldn't stop the continual squeeze of those hands against his neck and when large tearful blue eyes opened they locked with dead blue eyes and a cruel smile. 'Why Tou-chan! I love you! Please don't!' Black swirled in his vision and tears fell from his eyes in a continuous stream; pain like he never felt before blossomed in his heart and Naruto tasted blood. It permeated the air around him and a large gash across Tou-chan's neck dripped blood onto a pristine white cloak. 'Why?' He tried to curl in on himself but it wasn't working. His breath was stolen, his lungs collapsed and his heart stopped. ------------------------- Blue eyes snapped open; a horrifying gurgle escaped Naruto's lips that he wasn't even aware of. Trying to draw a single breath into his lungs to calm his stuttering heart. The light streaming in from the window was an indication that it was still deep into the night and it was too early to be awoken from such a horrifying nightmare. Naruto was trembling uncontrollably; fear was his most prominent emotion and pain was easily breaking his heart. Naruto couldn't slow his breaths and couldn't calm down; slipping from his shared bed silently he dressed casually, leaving off his flak jacket and tying his scroll across his back. He needed to get away from these emotions and Naruto spared one last glance at Minato's peacefully sleeping countenance; clenching his eyes shut as he was reminded of how cruel those features had twisted as they squeezed his neck and prepared to take his life. Naruto hung his head; knowing that if Minato wished to kill him then he would not put up a fight. That was the love he held for his father... With a hitched breath and hyperventilating pants, Naruto slipped from the window; leaving behind an open window and the cold side of the bed he occupied. Naruto tugged at his hair as he flitted across the rooftops of Konoha; trying to shut off his emotions and fears but it wasn't working. That had to be the most terrifying nightmare he had ever experienced and the bitter taste of bile was still in the back of his throat. How long he ran Naruto would never know but he soon reached Hokage Mountain he stopped. The sway of the wind was calming him slightly as Naruto settled on Nidaime's head. His fierce countenance and spiky hair reminded Naruto of his father a bit. The face on the mountain he admired the most and envied the most. To find the strength to sacrifice oneself for the protection of other's is something Naruto could only wish to do only he knew deep down he was a coward. He cursed his inability to remain in one mind set; drifting between dreams, memories and horrifying nightmares. Around him he could see the subtle rise of the sun and with it the increase of activity around Konoha. Several ANBU came off of guard duty and shinobi of all walks of life started milling about in the village. The wind was cold and around him he felt exposed to the prying eyes of those who chose to look up; he wanted to enjoy the beautiful view without worrying about the attention he would attract. With the forming of several complicated seals Naruto released a blast of chakra; the familiar light of the Kami No Gin Enkei Fuinjutsu enveloping him in a complete circle as spiked chains shot from the ground in a much more intense pattern then the last time he used the jutsu. Something about this Fuinjutsu was enough to make him feel comfort without a loved him close to him. Even with the calm and beautiful view spread out before him he was struggling to calm himself completely. Through the thick barrier he could feel several ANBU getting closer and shinobi showing interest but in that moment Naruto couldn't find it in himself to care. The barrier was enough to keep him completely isolated and still allowed for him to contemplate the worth of his life over the spread of Konoha as the sun peaked over the horizon. 'Naruto! I told you to talk to you father about your fears and insecurities! I know you just discovered your heritage and this awesome new sealing jutsu but using it is dangerous for you!' Naruto flinched at Kyuubi's words; it was rare for the large fox to contact him without calling him towards his subconscious and it was even rarer to hear Kyuubi's deep rumble laced with so much concern. Naruto tried desperately to make sense of the world around him but it was useless; he was too far gone in his memories to be able to understand even the gravity of Kyuubi's words; much less heed the trouble the Kitsune was pointing out. 'You are crying for help and you don't even realize it do you!' 'No; I just don't want to realize it!' Naruto yelled at his inner tenant; tears clinging to his lashes. Just when things had gone so well and he was getting more comfortable with himself; Naruto just had to lose control over his nightmares and dream something so bad that he had to lose control over his emotions which he had sealed away within Kyuubi's seal so well. 'You're too stubborn! You're hurting yourself?! If I wasn't here you'd do something really stupid wouldn't you?' Naruto shuddered; it had been a while since Kyuubi's voice was dripping with venom but something about those echoing words struck true to him. 'I don't care! I don't care how much I hurt myself; I will protect Minato from danger at every corner. Even if it is from myself. Besides; you know me better; I always do something stupid whether or not you would have been sealed into me or not.' Naruto said with a crooked smile; leaning forward to wrap his arm around his legs and rest his chin on top of his knees. Blue eyes closing slightly as he finally find his emotions simmering down and his heart slowing considerably. 'I can't argue with that logic kit.' Naruto snorted softly; Kyuubi could be such a bastard at times. 'Whatever you giant fur ball; go back to sleep.' ~ Jiraiya sighed; his research had been interrupted by a sudden summons from his sensei and he was tired. Stifling a yawn he stood from his spot in front of the woman's bath and headed in the direction of Konoha; geta clacking on the trees as he used chakra to aid in his movement. Minato had asked him to go out for a bowl of ramen later that day but going by the summons he didn't think it would be possible. He pouted; he rarely got time to spend time with his beloved student and his son. Naruto was still an enigma and a mystery to him; he could see the immense likeness the younger Namikaze had to Minato but what he didn't understand was the deep sadness he saw in broken blue eyes. After their disastrous first meeting at the stadium where he and Minato had sparred; Jiraiya felt guilty for not looking into Naruto more. Those saddened blue eyes had a strange power of pulling anyone in and burrowing a place in their heart; refusing to let them go. Over the two weeks Naruto has been in Konoha; Jiraiya had caught a glimpse of him a few times and every time he seemed to more attached to Minato. That fact worried him; the younger Namikaze was getting too dependent on Minato and it could later be used as one of his weaknesses. "Man I'm going to fry my brain if I keep thinking so much!" Jiraiya exclaimed to no one in particular. He wasn't supposed to worry; he was supposed to be the super hentai that spied on bathhouses too much and visited the red light district everyday of his life. With an exasperated exclamation he headed towards the gates of Konoha; waving over his shoulder at the polite greeting the gate keepers gave him. He wanted to take his time in reaching the Hokage Tower and instead of taking to the rooftops; merely walked casually through the streets of Konoha. Jiraiya stopped in his tracks; the sun's position told him it was just passed seven in the morning as the wind was still chilly and the sun hadn't risen very far on the southern horizon. That wasn't really surprising since he was usually called out to Sarutobi-sensei's offices in the early hours of the morning but what made him stop in his tracks was the perfect barrier of blue chakra in a neat circle right atop the Hokage Mountain. That was odd; he had seen many different chakra barriers but this was the first time he had seen such a dense composition over at least a fifty metre radius. The part of the barrier that fell over the cliff merely conformed to the mountain side without difficulty and inside it looked like many spiked chains were keeping people out as well as whoever was inside; prisoner. Just when he thought his day couldn't get much worse and no trouble was awaiting him; Jiraiya bit his lip and with a boost of chakra headed in the direction of the complex sealing barrier. Out of the corner of his eye he could make out several black shapes that alerted him to the presence of several ANBU; most likely thinking that whoever cast the jutsu was a threat to Konoha. "What is this?" Black eyes turned towards his sensei and Jiraiya shrugged; finger tentatively touching the chakra barrier. It was hot to the touch and sent a spike of electricity launching through him. Eyes widening when he recognized the tinge of chakra behind the pain. "Naruto?" He asked bewildered; turning towards the man in white robes standing next to him and observing the barrier with interest. He watched as Sarutobi-sensei puffed at his pipe before raising a hand to dismiss his ANBU. When they were left alone he was surprised by the concerned look he saw in wizened eyes. "I assume you know the real truth about Naruto?" Jiraiya nodded. "I thought Minato would tell you; one cannot keep a secret of discovering one's son from the person you consider as your own father for a very long time. Anyways; ignore my senile ramblings. Do you know who cast this?" "I'm not sure but I can feel Naruto's chakra very strongly..." Jiraiya followed his sensei's pointing finger and noticed for the first time the person inside of the barrier; blonde hair, lithe frame and that distinctive scroll that only one Namikaze always carried with him. "If he's inside then why..." "It's possible that he cast the barrier around himself but whatever the case; this technique is extremely useful. Get Minato; he's our Fuinjutsu Sage Master and he is probably the only one who can help Naruto. From what Naruto's chakra flares indicate; he is in distress." Jiraiya nodded; his day had gotten a lot more complicated. --------------------------------- Minato whined in his sleep; turning from one side to another to try and fall back asleep again. It felt as if something was missing and it was keeping him from enjoying a morning sleep in; he sighed and burrowed further under the covers. He was tired; exhausted even. Naruto could be a handful when he felt like it. The thought of his beloved son made his brows furrow; blue eyes shooting open as a dip in his bed invaded is senses and the distinct feeling of amphibian chakra pulsed before his face. Minato sat up; blue eyes never noticing that Naruto's side of the bed was empty. "Geez Jiraiya-sensei; that is the worst way to wake me." Minato said; hands curling around the messenger frog and depositing it on his lap before unclipping the scroll and breaking the sloppy seal that was placed on it to keep it closed. Wiping the sleep from his eyes; Minato skim read the contents and felt his heart freeze in his chest. Blue eyes immediately snapping up to look for Naruto; the side where Naruto was sleeping was empty and cold. It must have been close to eight in the morning and the moment he laid his hand on Naruto's side of the bed; the sheets were freezing cold and not even a flicker of his chakra remained. "Shit!" Minato cursed; clutching the scroll in his hand as he dressed quickly. If Naruto's scroll was missing it meant he had it with him; that in itself was a relief as Minato knew Naruto hadn't been kidnapped. What could have happened to Naruto to make him like that again? Minato didn't like the answer but whatever it was; Minato knew he was partially to blame. Knowing he should have sat Naruto down and talked to him about his emotions and now Minato knew Naruto was reaching a pinnacle of his distressing emotions. His son had yet to talk to him and Minato wasn't so sure he could get Naruto to relax enough to express himself properly. 'Naruto; please be safe.' Minato sent over their link as he headed for the Hokage Mountain where Jiraiya had said Naruto was sealed behind a barrier. In the distance Minato could make out the shimmer of a blue chakra circle and sighed; Naruto had once again sealed himself behind that jutsu and this time Minato wasn't so sure he would be able to get inside and comfort his son. He didn't have his Flying Thunder God Kunai to summon himself to; knowing that Naruto wouldn't have taken one of his by accident. His beloved was obsessive compulsive over his possessions and didn't like to mix his shinobi weapons if they weren't his. "Jiraiya-sensei!" Minato shouted; promising himself that when he got Naruto out of that barrier he was going to make a pendant with his seal and hang it the necklace around Naruto's neck so that he could get to the younger Namikaze when times like these arose and it was difficult to find him. "Good; you've finally arrived. I'm not sure exactly what's going on but it can't be good if Naruto is expelling that much chakra in a constant stream for a long period of time." Minato nodded; stepping forward. A hand touching the barrier and injecting some of his chakra; watching as his chakra resonated with Naruto's. The more chakra he added the further the barrier expanded - Minato noticed and a plan formed in his mind. If he could expel a large amount of his chakra into the barrier itself it would expand and eventually include him. "Jiraiya-sensei; can I ask you a favour?" He saw those long white locks sway as the older Nin nodded enthusiastically. "Find Uzumaki Kushina and take her to my home later tonight; there are things she knows and what she needs to know. Once I get Naruto out of here I'll drop by the Hokage's office." Minato said seriously; there were things that only Kushina could know that would help Naruto and she was also the best person to give Naruto comfort besides him. Minato didn't think he could handle Naruto's distress all on his own; he needed a mother's touch and what better way than to involve his real mother in his life. "Minato! Don't space out!" Minato jerked; eyes locking with black. "Geez; how long do you think you'll be?" Minato bit his lip and shook his head in thought. "It depends on Naruto's state of mind; three to four hours maybe even five." "Damn; what happened to your son to make him like this?" "Lots of things; there is no specific point of reflection but I nearly killed myself when I found out it was me that started it all." Minato said guiltily; blue eyes turned away in shame. He never noticed the confusion flashing in Jiraiya's eyes. "You better explain that yo me when all this is finished." Minato merely nodded and started to prepare himself physically and mentally for what he was going to face. ~ Once the area was clear of any shinobi; Minato bent to his knees and laid his hand on the barrier. Naruto it seemed was in desperate need of him; the way those shoulders shook with suppressed sobs and Naruto had curled in on himself - Minato knew that no small event had happened to make his beloved like this. No; it must have been something very serious. 'Naruto; look at me.' Minato begged; slowly pouring his chakra into the barrier. The resonance it produced allowed for the barrier to grow and the moment it passed over his body; Minato flinched. Small stings of pain ran down his spine but Minato didn't stop until he was finally inside. It seemed as if the barrier not only acted as protection but also severed their link completely and now that he was inside; his mind was reeling with the images that Naruto projected at him. 'Naruto?' Minato tried for the soft approach; stepping forward and slipping through the numerous chains to where Naruto was sitting - curled in a tight ball and yet it seemed his shoulders had stopped shaking completely and somehow that was more worrying to Minato than when Naruto openly expressed his emotions in large displays of chakra flares and animated movements. He crouched next to Naruto; a hand gently lying on the top of Naruto's head. He wasn't surprised when his eyes were met with tear stained whiskered cheeks and emotionally darkened blue eyes. Something in Naruto's gaze made him stop in his tracks; was that fear he saw? It came and went so fast that Minato could have sworn he hadn't seen it at all. 'Tou-chan?' Naruto's voice was small and frightened; it had an odd childish ring to it. 'Hai?' Minato asked concerned as he sat next to Naruto; large blue eyes looked up at him with so much fear and pain that it made his breath hitch. 'This is going to sound stupid but I've never felt the loving touch of being in my father's arms.' Minato frowned; what exactly was Naruto asking of him? Blue eyes shot open as Naruto brought his hands in a seal and a small amount of chakra brushed against his skin before Naruto was engulfed in a puff of smoke. Minato started when the barrier retracted and in place of where Naruto sat was the six year old version of his son. 'I want to stay like this for a while; please.' Naruto's voice was childish and small in his mind and Minato merely stared; blue eyes shifting over Naruto's tiny form. He was too small for his age; those bid innocent blue eyes practically begging him to go along with this. Minato had no idea what was expected of him but merely spread his arms; surprised at the force which Naruto ran into his arms. Naruto now fit in his arms when he was kneeling; so small. Minato carded gently through his hair; finally understanding what Naruto was asking of him. He wanted to have a father to ground him and if he reverted back to a child form it would help him to get over the bad memories he had as a child. The adorable small form was shacking in his arms made his heart break with sadness and pain; if this was what he could give his child then he would do it with no regrets. Even if it meant he had resign from the mission roster for a while and give up his current mission. He cradled Naruto's head against his shoulder as tears burned the back of his eyes; somehow knowing this was a significant moment in their relationship. 'Hush Naru-chan; I've got you. Don't cry.' Minato hushed softly. 'I love you Tou-chan.' Minato pulled Naruto into his lap and rocked back and forth gently as he allowed his instincts to take over. 'I love you too Naru-chan.' "Oh Minato; I've been waiting for you." Minato looked up; Naruto was now fast asleep on his shoulder. His tiny head resting on his shoulder as the young Namikaze balanced on his hip; he hushed Naruto softly as he heard a whimper in his mind. Two pairs of eyes were locked on him; one pair of surprised black and a pair of wizened concerned eyes. Both of them equally intense and making him squirm under their intensity. "It seems you have a lot of explaining to do Minato." Minato nodded; sitting in the offered chair and rearranging Naruto's small body in his lap. Never noticing the saddened gazes looking at him with something akin to pride and love. With a contented sigh he rested his hand on Naruto's spiky head and carded through the soft locks gently. "Minato?" "Sandiame-sama; I am withdrawing from my current mission and request a month of leave." Minato said seriously; determination flitting in blue eyes as Naruto nuzzled his neck and curled closer to the warmth his body was giving off. "If I am to grant your request I need legitimate answers and a proper explanation of what the hell is exactly going on.” -------------------------------------- "How do you carry this thing around so casually?" Minato huffed exasperatedly; knowing that Naruto couldn't hear him complain about the large scroll that now rested across his back. With some effort he shifted Naruto on his hip and pushed open his front door; stopping in his tracks by the chakra in his home. It was warm, unpredictable and also kind. Blue eyes looked up and locked with a set of violet. A pout was across Kushina's lips and her arms were crossed. "You took forever; Jiraiya said you wanted to see me so I came as soon as I could." Minato smiled nervously and scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. "Gomen, gomen Kushina-chan. I had very important meetings and Naruto here was hungry just as I headed home so I stopped by Ichiraku's to get him some Ramen." He saw her nod before stepping forward; violet eyes locked with Naruto's sleeping form. "What happened?" She asked concerned. Minato sighed; he could already feel his headache coming back with full force. "If you'll give me a minute; I need to get Naruto to bed and then there are some things we need to discuss. I'm just warning you now; whatever is said here tonight is the absolute truth and also that it is sensitive information. It cannot go beyond these doors." Minato said seriously as he headed for his room; flinching at the fact that his bed was unmade and his clothes were spread all over the floor. He merely shrugged; today had enough surprises for him and Naruto; right now he wanted to fall into bed next to Naruto and sleep for the next two months that Sarutobi had given him off. 'You're an exceptional shinobi Minato and so is young Naruto; I'm withdrawing you from active duty for two months to take a break and establish the relationship needed to protect the both of you.' Sarutobi-sama's words rang in his ears as he breathed a sigh of relief; even he was beginning to feel the effects of stress and emotional instability because neither he nor Naruto had gotten the chance to really deal with the subsequent discovery of their relation to the illicit relationship that blossomed between them. 'Did you hear that Naruto; we have a vacation that we can spend together. I'm going to take you to an Onsen and then we can travel Fire Country and all its resorts.' Minato said softly; fingers carding through Naruto's blonde hair as he pulled the covers over Naruto's sleeping form and smoothing them over Naruto. Smiling indulgently at the sweet, innocent round face of Naruto's six year old form. Placing a kiss on his forehead, Minato straightened up and placed Naruto's scroll in the corner before closing the door behind him softly. It was time to face Kushina; he just hoped that her reaction wouldn't be too dangerous to his health. ------------------------------------ Thanks so much for reading and I hope you guys enjoy it.
