'Naruto! No stop it!' Kyuubi's yelled as panic gripped the demon fox. Never before had he felt Naruto's emotions fall apart as they were now. A erratic slow heartbeat that was filled with turmoil and guilt that left even the hardened fox demon with backlash from the pain. He needed to do something but what? What could he do to help his kit?

Naruto drew a warm bath as he mentally prepared himself for the task ahead. A breath escaped his lips in a hitch as a sob worked its way through his parted lips. He was stalling and he knew it; hesitating when he knew he shouldn't. Why he could not tell nor did he want to think about it. Yet; those forbidden moments shared between him and Minato burned a light of hope in his soul only to be crushed by his guilt and fear of what Minato would think of him. Guilt was a potent emotion that could quickly turn volatile.

Snorting to himself Naruto berated himself with his hesitation. The kunai gripped in his hand turning his knuckles white and causing a few drop of blood to escape where he touched the blade with an experimental touch; perfectly sharp and deadly. Just as his emotions...

With dazed eyes he watched as a deadly cut appeared on his left wrist first; blood welling to the surface as it spilled over in rivulets of pleasure. The feeling so pure and potent that there was no hesitation as he slipped the kunai upwards on his other wrist and watched as more blood flooded the bath water and turned it into a deeper pink than before. The feeling of warmth and contentment slipped through his mind as the blood continued to flow and stain the water deeper and deeper into a colour that stained so many memories of his past...

Something was cutting at a bond that shouldn't be touched and Minato's back arched in the sudden pain that engulfed his entire being. A silent scream ripped from his lips as he clutched at his heart; too much it was too much. Falling to his knees he felt Gamabunta's form shift beneath his feet as he urged the Yondaime Hokage to find his balance. Blue eyes filled with tears of hopelessness that stained the memory of his beloved.

Red slitted eyes of the beast before him glittered in something akin to sadness and sorrow and Minato frowned; something was off about this memory. He started forward to try and stop the beast but his feet seemed to be glued to the large toad's neck and his heart was uncommonly loud in his ears as hid blood seemed to freeze over at the look of concern in Kyuubi's eyes. Stubbornly he stared and tried another attack only to falter and sink to his knees.

"What's going on?" He yelled in frustration even as his mind keep yelling at him; hurry, hurry something's wrong you have to hurry. For a moment a pair of sad and dead blue eyes flashed in his mind and his breath hitched in his chest; why did his eyes look like that?

No; those weren't his eyes they belonged to someone very important to him; more important than his life but who? Amnesia was not a good thing to have at this exact moment and he felt his stomach lurch as that strange bond was tugged again causing him to yell out his pain; it felt like it was going to snap at any moment.

'I know you are deep in recovering your memories but your kit needs you desperately.' A deep voice rumbled in his head and Minato frowned; Naruto? Someone was hurting his baby? His heart froze and his blood boiled, who would dare hurt his beloved. Anger burned through him until that same voice rang loudly in his ears.

'WAKE UP NOW!'

Blue eyes shot open as an intense pain ripped through his mind and something tugged at his soul again. Eyes burning with unshed tears as his heart beat loudly in his ears; trying to figure out what was going on. He felt it then; the strange weight on his forehead. Fingers reaching up to feel only to meet cold metal and a sinking feeling of dread. It was his, but it was also Naruto's and going by the memories this was Naruto's most prized possession that never left his side. If it was with him then Naruto...

Oh God; no. Not now; not after finding his beloved again no! With a memory of chakra manipulation that he pulled from experience and memory he flashed towards the bathroom door where he could hear a dreadful silence and the hurtful sounds of drip, drip, drip, plop, plop that flowed in a sinister pattern. He felt for one of his marking so he could summon his towards that position and a relieved sigh escaped his lips as he felt one of his special kunai inside the bathroom. Within a millisecond he was inside without having to break through the locked door.

"NARUTO!" He yelled frantically as he felt all the blood drain from his face as shock overtook his body. His heart was shattering at the sight that was before him; his beloved son was laying in a pool of blood and was unresponsive. He could barely feel a whisper of Naruto's chakra or even Kyuubi's. Chakra control was never one of his strong points but he just hoped that he could at least heal this much damage. Lifting Naruto's body out of the bloodied water he placed Naruto on the ground and summoned the knowledge that he had buried deep in his memories.

"Please let this work; I can't loose him again." He cried as he felt the soft warmth of healing chakra flowed from his hands as he carefully undid the damage that Naruto did. His mind kept telling him; you cannot loose him. Not now, not ever.

"Please don't do this to me! Not now!" Minato pleaded as felt Naruto's heartbeat stutter beneath his fingers and a haggard breath escaped tired lungs.

"Not now. Not ever!" Minato yelled as he felt a wave of his healing chakra discharge into Naruto's body and blue eyes shot open as a scream ripped from a haggard throat. Fear, rejection and then understanding flickered there before Minato abandoned his chakra and pulled Naruto's body close to his own; not caring as blood smeared across his shirt or as Naruto's pained sobs filled the air around him. Relief flooded through him; Naruto was alright and he would make sure that he never left his sight again.

'Naruto what're you doing here?' A deep voice asked and Naruto whipped around to observe the place he found himself in. He was so confused; really what happened to the blood stained bathroom he was in mere seconds ago. Eyes observed the Uchiha fan on a white clad back and distinctive black hair that could not be mistaken for anyone other than Sasuke Uchiha.

'Sasuke? What?" Naruto stated confused but clutched at his heart; something was tugging at his soul. Black eyes narrowed at him before slipping behind eyelids as Sasuke took a breath and whispered his next words. It was not the type of conversation he was hoping to have with his dobe but what else could he do? Naruto really did not belong here; well not yet anyway.

'I'll ask again what're you dong here Naruto?' Sasuke asked as he searched those blue eyes for a reason.

'I don't know.' Naruto stated with a frown; he didn't even know where he was nevertheless knowing why he was here. Sasuke stepped forward and rested a palm on Naruto's heart. Black met blue and Sasuke gave a small sorrowful smile.

'If you don't know what you're doing here Naruto; then you don't belong here yet.' Sasuke stated as he gave a push and Naruto felt himself falling into the abyss as a strong and painful tug at his heart seemed to guide him to where it wanted him to go.

He was floating on the edge of something and every stuttering breath that spilled from his lips left his heart reaching out painfully towards his lover. Wait he didn't have a lover? Did he? Naruto's head spinned as he felt the earth crumple beneath him; that was just like the day when he killed Madara...

'Please don't do this to me. Not now.' The words were soft and distant and Naruto recognized that voice and warmth filled him to brim; yes he knew that voice. It belonged to his...

Wait who did it belong to again?

"Focus kit!!' That voice he knew well and like the voice yelled he focused and listed for that beautiful voice from before; the one filled with so much love and warmth. Yes, he wanted to hear once more. Just once more before he fell asleep. He was so tired; he wanted to fall asleep so badly yet this pain in his chest never faded and only increased with each of his stuttering breaths.

'Will you hate me forever?' He felt the unspoken words escape his lips. So tired; tears were drowning him and yet he was calm and happy. That connection wasn't fading and only seemed to strengthen with the seconds that passed. Yes; he wouldn't let go of that thread that connected him to Minato.

'NOT NOW; NOT EVER!' The yell was loud in his ears and Naruto felt the fog fade from his mind as reality finally caught up to him. Blue eyes snapping open to stare into tear streaked blue; the love that shined there was depthless and Naruto let a scream of agony escape his lips. Had he really just done something so stupid that would have meant he would never experience love again?

For the first time in several centuries Naruto felt his emotions snap and spill over in a harsh rush of pain and fear. He didn't want to look into Minato's eyes because he was afraid of the rejection he would see or the disappointment. So instead he buried his face in his father's neck and sobbed his heart out. Words spilling from his lips that hardly made sense to him as he apologized over and over again.

"'m sorry; so sorry." He whispered over and over again only to hear Minato's coos above him as those small sounds of:

'Hush my precious. Hush; I've got you now. No one is going to hurt you ever again.' Naruto slumped into comforting arms as he felt his emotions drain his last reserves of strength that he had left. He heard Minato's panicked shout as he fell into unconsciousness again. Blue, black and red swirled as he felt himself being lifted and carried; cradled against a strong chest that held so much comfort and love. Yes; he wasn't going to move again. Not now, not ever.

Tears of relief flooded from Minato's eyes as he felt Naruto's strong heartbeat beneath his palm. He grabbed a set of pyjamas from Naruto's cupboard and dressed Naruto to prevent him from catching a cold as he placed a soft kiss on Naruto's forehead. His own bare forehead now resting on Naruto's as he laid next to his love on the soft sheets and warm feather duvet. Holding Naruto's hand in his. He didn't want to let go even as he felt the harsh scar beneath his fingertips. It would be a reminder of what he had almost lost; almost but didn't lose. Fate may have been cruel but maybe just this one time she would grant them time together to always remember and cherish. He wasn't planning on giving up; never.

He had never felt a heart stopping fear as he had when he found Naruto laying in his own blood. Whispered comforts spilled from his lips as he watched Naruto sleep; brows furrowed in sleep as if he was disappointed in himself already. Minato smiled; happiness flooding through him as Naruto's heart beat steadily and strongly against his fingers. Yes; things were going to be alright. Thumbs wiping gently at the tears that fell from closed lids; the pain was tangible and yet controlled.

"I'll never leave you again Naruto. Don't take my words lightly." Minato whispered to the sleeping beauty before him; blue eyes glazed in his own tears of joy that nothing would stand in his way now in claiming Naruto as his. Well; maybe the old fox would interfere but Minato knew how to shut him up. He heard a deep chuckle as he felt that voice dragging him into Naruto's subconscious. Red eyes stared at him from behind steel bars as water lapped at his ankles.

'You'll have no objection from me Yondaime; Naruto was chosen as yours long before both of your souls graced any period in time.' Kyuubi said softly as he laid his head on his large paws. Slitted eyes stared deep into blue and a light laugh travelled from the fox demon.

'You're wandering how you can be here am I correct?' Kyuubi inquired with his head titled to the side curiously. Looking harmless and humble only Minato felt his stomach stiffen at the memory of the destruction that he had caused.

'No worries; I'm a peaceful deity. Only an Uchiha can make me go berserk.' Kyuubi smirked before continuing with his explanation.

'Anyway; you are here because you and Naruto have an inseparable bond that cannot even be severed by death. You can enter his mindscape as he can yours by mere will. You truly were made for each other regardless of blood ties and societal taboos.' Kyuubi said seriously and Minato allowed the information to settle into his mind before nodding thoughtfully. Blue eyes stared into red and the question on the tip of his tongue slipped out without his notice until he heard it ringing in his own ears.

'Why didn't you heal Naruto?'

'Because I couldn't. When me and Naruto merged I was able to heal and lend him my power as much as I wished but now;' red eyes closed in sadness. 'You are Naruto's as much as he is yours. I cannot interfere when my bond with his soul was severed by the love that exists between the two of you.' Minato gave a small nod before frowning when the large fox grinned and pushed him out of Naruto's mind.

'Think over those answers and come back if you need more.' The fox's last words rang loudly in his ears but Minato stored the information in the back of his mind as he looked at Naruto again. The fox container's features had softened and it looked as if he had finally entered a blissful dream.

"I love you Naruto." Minato said tenderly as he stroked Naruto's lips with his thumb; his other hand resting in Naruto's as their foreheads touched and Minato allowed his own exhaustion to overcome him. For the time being no one could shatter this moment between them nor alter the love that was building an unbreakable bond between them; growing stronger by the second. Guilt faded as it paved a path for a new beginning.
