They did a bit more "shopping," but the store clerks didn't have much more than those they'd visited the day before. So, they picked out a couple of promising looking bars and Kakashi went in to see if he could talk to the head of Fushinji.
He was, of course, not available "that day." He made an appointment for the following morning. Time enough to snoop in other ways.
They spent some time on the pier, looking for all the world like they were taking in the ocean breezes. Both Sakura and Kakashi took note of every ship that came and went into the harbor. There seemed a disproportionate number of ships from Fushinji than from all the other business combined.
With nothing more to do at that point, they stopped at a ramen stand for lunch. "We're going to have to do some night surveillance." Kakashi said after the waitress set their bowls in front of them.
Sakura took a pair of chopsticks out and pulled them apart. "I had a feeling. I was thinking…" She paused to pick up some of her noodles. "Would they even be shipping their exports - whatever they are -- out of this port? Would they risk it?"
Kakashi pondered that a moment. "That's a good question. I think we might consider splitting up for a little bit this afternoon. You go south and look to see if there are any other harbors close by. Don't go too far, I doubt they'd want to risk having to set up another building. I'll go north. Meet me back at the inn when you're done?"
Sakura nodded. They finished their ramen quickly and took a minute to sit close. As they stood up and left the stand, Kakashi turned to her. "Take care of yourself for me, please?" He gave the little crooked grin she was getting used to.
"Hey, you, too. I'm not nearly through with you yet. So, no dying on me or anything, okay?" He chuckled, but nodded. They leaned in to kiss, then each went their separate ways.
Kakashi walked slowly through the city streets, taking in every detail of the buildings they hadn't yet identified. Very little seemed out of place, but, as he was well aware, looks could be very deceiving. Most of the shops were no more than two or three stories. Likely the proprietors lived above their businesses.
It resembled the Leaf in a lot of ways. That thought reminded him of what he and Sakura would face when they returned. Not willing to address it yet, he forcibly turned his thoughts back to the street he was on.
There were a few customers walking along the streets. Most looked like sailors or other dock workers. There were a few mothers pulling their children along with them and one or two businessmen with briefcases or portfolios, walking swiftly on obviously important errands.
Even walking slowly, it didn't take him long to reach the north end of the city. Checking around himself carefully, he took to the trees. He'd made it a few kilometers outside of the city and saw no evidence of another harbor. The coast along this part was rocky and full of sheer cliffs -- no where reasonable to anchor a ship.
As far as he could see to the northern direction, the coastline was similar to the area he was in. He turned and scanned the surrounding forest, but like the ocean side, it was not friendly for anyone wishing to take anything large through. It was dense, with the trees very close together, plenty of ferns and other shade-loving ground cover and almost no natural light.
He hit the trees again and headed back. He couldn't wait to get to the inn. He shook his head at himself. One day, and not even a full one at that. One day they'd actually been together, one night, and he didn't want to be away from her.
This might be harder than he thought.

Sakura scanned the natural harbor she'd found. Three ships were anchored about half a kilometer out to sea. There was no pier nor any other buildings along this stretch of beach.
She'd seen a path, about wide enough for three people to walk abreast, wind through the forest from the southern tip of the city docks. All told, it was about two kilometers long. Not too far, depending on what was being moved.
She couldn't see any movement on the ships, and there was no evidence of anyone nearby. The forest behind her, save the path through it, was dense, dark and thick. Very little could move through it.
She took to the trees, bypassed the beach and went as far as the next curve of the coast. For her vantage point in the trees, she couldn't see any other reasonable spots along the water. The forest ran right up against it here with, at most, a few meters of beach between the water and the trees.
Sakura turned, headed back through the trees, and stopped once more above the path. That was when she noticed that there were tracks in the path down below. Channeling chakra to her feet, she leapt lightly to the ground.
It was somewhat muddy here, which aided her search. There were no tracks that indicated any type of cart or other transport. The only thing she could see were footprints. That, in itself, wasn't the biggest mystery. The puzzling part was that there were an inordinate number of different sizes of footprints.
None of them looked small enough to be children's footprints and she had a nagging thought that made her grateful for it. However, there were quite a few that were obviously women's footprints. The tracks looked like whoever it was had shuffled, rather than walked.
She stood up and looked around, but there was nothing else there that caught her attention. Filing the information into the back of her mind, she took once more to the trees.

She realized as she headed up the steps that she didn't have a key. She hoped that he was already there, but when she tried the handle, it was still locked. She knocked lightly, but got no answer.
Slightly annoyed that she hadn't remembered to ask him about it, she sat down in the hallway. She was still trying to decide if she wanted to go ask for another key or just put her fist through a wall, when he came up the stairs.
He grinned at her and any mad she had going melted. She stood up and hugged him, then kissed him thoroughly before letting him go. "I found it." She said, quietly.
She hadn't heard any other guests in the time they'd been there, but that didn't mean much. Kakashi unlocked and opened the door and they stepped in.
"Where?" Now that they'd gotten that kiss out of the way, he could concentrate once again on the mission.
"South two or so kilometers." She described the trail, the beach and the anchored ships out on the water. The she told him about the footprints.
Kakashi frowned in thought. "I'm not sure I like the sound of that." But he wouldn't say anything more at that moment.
"Enough of that for now. We should get a bit of rest this afternoon before heading out tonight. We'll need sharp brains this evening." Kakashi sat on the side of the bed and pulled his shoes off before stretching out.
Sakura tried to figure out if he was being dirty or not, but then a small yawn escaped. She sighed. "I guess I do need a bit more sleep." She kicked her sandals off and stretched out next to him.
"I promise not to compromise your honor," he managed to say with a straight face. "I just figured that since you didn't get much sleep last night..." he trailed off and shrugged, but Sakura caught the glint in his eye.
She swatted him with a pillow before settling down into his side. "Smart ass." She mumbled into his shoulder. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her. The joke was on him, though, when he passed out before she did.

By the time they woke, the sun had gone down. Kakashi opened his good eye to check the time. They'd missed dinner downstairs, but he figured they might want something a little different, anyway.
He looked down at Sakura, who had once again, wrapped herself around him. She had a small frown on her face. He traced a thumb over her eyebrows and forehead and her face smoothed out.
He hated to wake her, but they'd need to get moving. "Sakura," he said quietly, and shook her shoulder a bit.
She stirred and rolled, stretching. Kakashi had to fight the urge to pounce. "Hmbumblephermf?" Sakura said around a yawn.
He chuckled. "Sakura." He shook her shoulder again and she opened her eyes. The thought crossed his mind that those eyes would be incredibly wonderful to wake up to every morning. He shoved the thought aside.
"We need to get ready." He couldn't resist it forever. He leaned over and kissed her softly.
She reacted immediately and deepened the kiss. Their tongues warred with each other and their hands touched everything they could reach. He cupped a breast and she moved her hand down to his pants. She had him unbuttoned in only a few seconds.
He greeted this philosophically and pulled her shirt over her head. It took them only a few more seconds to get each other naked and he was inside her a few seconds after that.
She nipped his neck and shoulder and ran her nails down his back. He moved in a fast pace, not letting her catch her breath. He first orgasm slammed into her and she barely had time to muffle her shout.
Kakashi sat back, and pulled her up to him. He took a nipple into his mouth and pulled her down onto him again. She began riding him, almost frantic with the pleasure. He grasped her behind and moved her, not letting her slow down.
When he felt her squeeze him again, he pushed her back onto the bed. He wanted to hear more from her, needed to feel her come again. He didn't have to wait long.
Another minute and she was almost there again. "Kakashi..." she moaned, and tightened her legs around him.
He lengthened his stroke and hit her deeper. That was all it took and she stuffed her fist in her mouth to muffle the scream that let loose as the pleasure took her over. He buried himself deeply and let go, filling her with his seed.
He collapsed on her and they kissed softly. "I'll take any of those wakeups you want to give me any day." Sakura said, working to catch her breath.
He chuckled quietly. "I tried to just kiss you awake. You started this."
She opened one eye. "And you have a problem with it?" She raised her eyebrow.
"Nono, just want to make sure you know whose fault it is." His chest rumbled with the laugh he was suppressing.
She punched him lightly in the arm. "Just making sure."
They got themselves untangled and he stood up. He held his hand out to her. "Shower?"
She considered him a moment. "Are we going to make it through before I pass out from hunger?" She had to work to smother the giggle that threatened to escape.
He sighed. "I think we can manage one shower without sex."
She raised an eyebrow, obviously not sure about it, but took his hand and stood. Her legs were a little wobbly, but she straightened quickly. They went into the bathroom and Kakashi started the water. A few minutes later, the soap was yet again on the floor of the shower, forgotten.
