Chapter 9:
This and that
Tsunade
sat at her desk reading all of the collected information
about Yuki, it was becoming complicated, to say the least. She had hoped that
Yuki would prove not very strong, but it seemed that he was going to end up
being one of the strongest ninjas since Itachi had
murdered his entire clan, perhaps even since the Yodaime.
It would create no end of troubles to include him into their village, but his
skills were irreplaceable he could do with ease the same things that took her much
studying, or all the energy that was stored in her forehead. They would have to
work on ways to tie him to the village once he recovered, maybe if they offered
the clan a place to live and Konoha’s protection.
She’d bring it up after the operation.
I i, it’s not enough that
Naruto being chased after by Akatsuki and the
Kazekage has been kidnapped, is it? I get this gift/problem dropped into my lap
and I have to figure out if it’s going to be a solution to our problems, Yuki’s
going to unbalance the village. He might be strong enough to challenge for the Hokage position, but hopefully that would never happen I
doubt that would come to pass the village would rather disband than follow an
outsider, and now there is Daitsu-sama who is trying
to make problems.
And also
the next Chuunin exam to arrange, the
Hokage wanted to reach for her secret stash of
alcohol when she read the next line of newspaper and dug for her drawer of
lotto tickets. “Shizune, get me a 4 man group to send to Suna, I think that
it’s going to be a problem.” So much for
that not being problematic, I was going to have Neji watch Yuki and see if it
was possible to figure out if there was someway to reproduce what he does, even
if not the same way as he does it. Eh at least Hinata
is still here she’ll be able to help with that.
Yuki
cleared his plate as well as Raido and Genma’s then washed them, he shook his
head, but all the braids stayed in place. Soon he’d have the box removed and
he’d be free. What will that mean for the
future? The weather is so nice, but good weather can cause as much damage as a
storm.
“Let’s
go this it the first thing on the Hokage’s list for the day she wanted to get
it done while she was fresh, after studying the situation and consulting her
books she’s ready to remove the object.”
Yuki
pulled on his sandals and followed them out the door, not saying much, the
dictionary and a scroll tucked under his arm, he could see Banchou-sama’s
scroll tucked under Raido’s arm. It was going to be a long horrible day he
could tell already. Genma made squeezed his shoulder before going to lock the
door, they walked through the city at a subdued pace.
~~
“Hold
still, kid.” Yuki struggled as his face was jammed against the table, he could hear the adults talk to one another about
him, using words like the sedative was wearing off and that they couldn’t get
him to go down.
Yuki
tried to climb off the table and escape, but the person holding him down was
too strong, so he tried to take that strength away.
“Hey
he’s draining me!” One of the men yelled, it was the last thing that Yuki heard
as his head was banged against the table he felt liquid spurt from his nose,
he’d heard a crunching sound this time when his head hit. Before he could touch
it he passed out.
~
“Hey
wake up, eat this,” a voice said as it invade his dark dreamless sleep,
bringing pain with it. Yuki opened his eyes and jerked away from the looming
chakra form, he screamed as he moved his neck causing pain to go shooting
through his body, as second chakra form reached out and smacked him, causing
him to bounce off the wall.
“Can
it gaki, you belong to the house of Saito, you’ll do
you best or we’ll kill your entire clan. So you better try damn hard because I
don’t have any patience with kids, they get on my nerves, so say: thank you,
Saito-sama, and eat.”
Yuki
somehow managed to stammer the right thing, because a plate of food was thrust
into his chest and he was left alone.
So
you survived? I’m surprised it seems like everyone had died, I couldn’t feel
them anymore.
Who?
Koshin,
I can’t feel my brother, I think he died on the operating table. Pfe, operating table, it was a hack job. How old are you?
Five.
My name is Yuki.
Oh
Kami-sama not the children too…
Yuki
we’re going to survive this and kill them all if it’s the last thing we do,
make sure that no matter what you survive and no matter what the price make
sure that if there is a chance escape, but only if you can get away.
Ko-ni-san
there is something wrong with my eyes, everything is fuzzy and bright, and
there are things that are there that I can’t see, I can feel them, but I can’t
see them.
Ko-ni-san? Are you there?
Yeah,
I’m here, that your doujutsu, everything that you see
is the inner chakra that makes everything, everything else is there too but you
can’t see it yet because it’s too new an ability.
Yuki-chan
we’re going to survive, it’s just going to make us stronger I’ll talk to you
later, they are coming to check on me now. Shh, be good we’ll have our revenge, but for now be strong
for Kaa-chan and tou-chan. Shh don’t cry, don’t show any weakness.
Ko-ni-san? Koshin! Ko-ni-san please don’t leave me
alone. Yuki tucked his knees
under his chin and hugged them, wishing that Ko-ni-san
hadn’t gone way.
Yuki
remember the past with a grim expression, it had been horrible to experience,
remembering it was no picnic either.
Genma watched as with each step more tension
gathered in Yuki’s shoulders. This was not going to be a good day for any of
them. Genma stiffened his spine he’d endure it, if he could lose the love of
his life and pretend that nothing happened then, watching someone be miserable
was no difficult task, however much he just wanted the kid to be happy, the
village came first.
Tsunade
dropped the chunk of metal in the bowl that Shizune was holding, she needed a drink
or several of them, better yet she wanted to never
stop drinking. That was the worst surgery of her entire experience, not baring
the one where people had died under her knife.
She
made to put stitches in but the area was already starting to close on its own,
so instead she put the tools down and sat on the nearest object not noticing
that there was already someone sitting in the chair until they moved, she
jumped up, they moved and she abruptly sat back down.
She
hadn’t realized that the patient hadn’t gone under until she made the first cut
and released a hiss of pain. She ordered Shizune to give him another shot while
pressed gauze against the bleeding incision, only to have the patient say he
was immune to it, his body thought it was a poison and neutralized it
immediately. Then that she should continue.
At
that point she realized that she was going to do a spinal surgery on a
conscious, in pain patient and almost lost her never except for the other
people watching her she would have refused. Instead she ordered all
nonessential personnel out of the room, she’d intended it to be a teaching
operation most wounds to the neck didn’t provide a prearranged chance to
demonstrate the technique. Genma and Raido had remained on the far side of the
room and pretended that they weren’t there.
Then
knowing that the patient was feeling every shift of the knife, feeling
everything she peeled back and anchored the skin getting it out of the way and
preventing it from healing together too soon, and she just about had heart
failure, the gob of metal was the central hub for the blood flowing into her
patient’s brain. Usually she’d close it up just then and tell them that it was
impossible, but she had an awake patient to discuss
the situation. After considering the matter he said that she should cut them
one at a time and he’d attempt to reconnect them under the metal blocker, so
that it would slowly raise to the top.
Tsunade
cut the first vein and was spurted with blood. She saw the vein being drug
deeper into the tissue and the blood stop after a moment she cut the next one, one after the other she cut them and Yuki repaired
them. At one point he stopped breathing only to restart after a moment on his
own. Then finally the shinny metal hub was entirely exposed. It mechanical
puzzle around the bone, complex in it’s simplicity, it
if was taken apart in the wrong order it would pinch all the nerves and lead to
paralyse. She asked Yuki what to do, he asked her to show him a drawing. She
sent Hinata for her father to assist her, flooding
the area to keep bacteria out of the wound, it was bleeding sluggishly as Yuki
controlled the in and out put of blood, concentrating on making more blood to
replace the lost blood, he breathed slowly and kept his heartbeat slow and
measured.
Hyuuga
arrived, it was rare for the Hokage to send for him
usually she was happy with one of his underlings outside of the heads of clan
meetings. She explained briefly what this young man’s survival meant to Konoha,
that every wounded Shinobi that managed to make it back to their hidden village
would survive no matter what, if they didn’t die before then, then their life
could be save, but only if they managed to remove the bits of metal.
Hyuuga
calmly and seriously guided the Hokage, telling to a
precise movement what had to be done and coached her through the (three
dimensional) puzzle, step by step. Finally the Hokage
was looking down at the bare bone of his spine held in place by ropy muscle and
tendons. She told Yuki that the last of it was out and watched as it slowly
closed before her eyes and sat down.
Hyuuga
realized that the running commentary hadn’t been because she was nervous,
rather because she was telling her patient was she was going to do, her very
awake patient. Shizune removed the pins and making sure that the wound was
clear of any surgical debris, smoothed the flap of skin down.
“Yuki if I ever see you on my surgical table again
it’ll be too soon. Come to my office when you recover. Hyuuga-sama would you
like a drink? I believe I need several,” Tsunade said as she walked out of the
operating room feeling woozy. Oh god, he
said that there were more like him in his clan, am I going to have to do the
same thing for them? Maybe they won’t feel the need to work at full potential, maybe I can persuade then that their children
being free, will be enough.
Yuki
reached up and felt the flap of skin closing, the scar tissue receding into his
skin reabsorbed. He closed his eyes and tried for the second time. Ko-ni-san!
Yuki!
I thought you were dead, or that you had escaped, though it looked like you
were going to die when they took you way, you shouldn’t have attempted to cut
of Saito-sama’s penis.
Well
I got tired of being raped. Yuki
said dryly. I’m free, I’ll rescue you when I can, so do you’re best to make sure
not one dies between now and then, the final blocker was just removed so I’ll
need to amass power. I have potential allies, maybe a place to live when we’re free, I’m going to test the waters. Can you get an idea of
what people think of that idea? The allies are Konoha, they seem decent, there
is a matter of a seal that I have to look into, but when that is done I’ll have
a better image. I’m going to be resting to feel free to contact me as you can
I’ll leave my channels open for you.
Allies?
Free? Really? I was being to lose hope. I think I
speak for all of us when I say we trust you judgement, if you find them
trustworthy then we’ll abide by your decision. But I’ll confirm that in a
moment. Koshin’s
voice held a sense of wonder and hope, Yuki hadn’t realized how completely Koshin had given up until that moment, that his honest
words had become simply an oft repeated phrase.
Yes I will, but that can wait a bit, I’ll be
listening for you.
Yuki
fixed his shirt making it lie correctly against his throat, and shaking his
head to make the braids fall back into place covering up the pink lines on the
back of his neck.
He hadn’t spoken to Genma or Raido yet who were
waiting on the other side of the door since Tsunade had left. After a short nap
he’d leafed through the dictionary, committing kanji and definitions one by one
to memory. The future looked a lot brighter without the bit of metal stuck in
his neck part of a never-ending nightmare that has at least changed if not
totally ended. Yuki adjusted the neckline one more time before opening the door
to see Genma and Raido’s smiling faces. Yuki smiled and patted Genma’s cheek
and Raido’s arm. He removed the last trace of scar from Genma’s cheek, and
healed the injury on Raido’s arm from his last mission.
“Tsunade-hime, as the Godaime of Konoha I’d like to put an idea to
you,” Yuki said seriously closing the door on Genma and Raido, so that it was
just him and the Hokage in the office. “I represent
not just myself but also my clan, your removal of the seals and the blockers
has earned my undying loyalty, I’ll serve this village as long as you want me
to, but there is a greater possibility. If you could answer a few questions for
me, we’ll talk about the possibility of the Seiryoku clan joining Konoha. If you’re so interested.”
Tsunade looked up and started at Yuki the soft
politely phrased question capturing all of her interest. I knew you were going to be trouble. “Please continue,” Tsunade
said exquisitely polite, this young man may look like a child but his worlds
and carriage told a different story.
“First I have a question, how you answer this
question will determine the rest of this discussion, please be honest, Why does
Hyuuga Neji branded a binding seal under his headband?”
Tsunade wished she had more time to consider this
question but she new that time was of the essence. She had a feeling that the
answer ‘it’s and in clan matter and not part of the Hokage’s responsibilities’
wouldn’t do, but it would be a start. “The brand that Neji wears is part of an
in-clan rivalry, the Hyuuga decided that in order to
protect their doujutsu that needed to make sure it
was protected. To this end the clan was split into two groups the main and
branch families, with the branch family bound to serve and protect the main
branch by this brand. When a member of the branch family dies the doujutsu is bound so that no information about their jutsu
is leaked. While I don’t approve, I don’t have enough individual power as Hokage to intervene. However there is a young man, Uzumaki Naruto, who wants to be the next Hokage who vowed to put an end to that practice, if he
becomes Hokage, things will be dramatically
different, and old ways of doing things will have to be reconsidered,” That wasn’t such a bad answer, and honest
too bonus points! “If you’re worried about that happening to you, you
needn’t be, as I said it is a clan practice.”
“Who would you said with if the seal was suddenly
removed from the branch family members, by someone other than the main family
and the main family wanted to restore the brand?” Yuki asked, in seeming ideal
curiosity.
Please Kami don’t
let something like that happen, there is only so much trouble that I can deal
with. “I’d have to come down on the branch families said, but only as long
as they didn’t cause a civil war with revenge. It’s case of it being the
system…” O Kami
don’t let this be a metaphor for his own clan’s situation, where by I just said
I’d support them as long as they didn’t seek revenge on the nobles of lightning
country. Tsunade racked her brain for a better answer. Do I support revenge against the cloud nin and
the Lightning nobles or not? “If you are referring to your own situation, I
could see that attacking the nobles maybe your only choice, in freeing your
family and keeping from being re-enslaved I’ll support your decision on any
eventuality if you can convince your clan to join Konoha. If you’re worried
about you own clan setting up a system like that I can see about getting a law
passed against it.” Would I be able to
get the Hyuuga clan grandfathered in or would I have clan against clan warfare?
Shit I think I hate this kid… Tsunade smiled weekly at Yuki her mind worked
over the situation and wondered if it was something that she should gamble on
or not? What the hell I’ll back the kid
all the way, he’s made my life miserable enough, maybe if he’s under my command
I can make him miserable too.
Tsunade smiled at Yuki who: Hmmm.
“I’ll think over your wise words, Hokage-sama. In either eventuality I’ll serve your village
in repayment. But I must tell you now that when I’m strong enough I’ll be going
to the cloud hidden village and removing all of the Seiryoku member even if it
costs me my life. However if things work out like I expect them to there should
be a replacement medic-nin while I’m away,” Yuki said neutrally as he bowed
formally.
“I didn’t think I’d be able to keep you away from
that, if you can make it look like it was just your clan I’ll lend you Konoha
Shinobi to the cause,” Tsunade counter offered.
“Hmm I may take you up on that offer, would you mind
if I use the Konoha library? I need to learn more jutsu that I already do, the
one’s I know are too revealing of my origins,” Yuki asked.
“Yes, of course paring the restricted section, but
that shouldn’t be a problem it’s keep in a different location,” Tsunade
answered, she had been impressed by the speed by which he had been able to
learn how to read, any attempt to block him from improving would be correctly
read as an attempt to hold him back out of fear.
“I’ve heard much about you offered Chuunin exam,
would it be possible for me to take part in this exam? I know that it’s
approaching rapidly, but if there was a partial team that I could join to take
the exam I would do my best to make sure that they improved in their skills,”
Yuki smiled slightly, as if embarrassed by his excess of skill.
“I’ll see what I have, if the opportunity presents
itself I’ll let you know right away so that you can get the minimum number of
missions done in time to enter,” Tsunade saw that their would be no holding
this one back he was destine to soar. She wished he was more like Naruto or
that Naruto was more like him, because Yuki was like a tragic Yondaime. He would sparkle and bend the world into new
shapes, she just hope he wouldn’t die before he got
his change to shine.
“I look forward to meeting Uzumaki-san,
when I get the chance, I hope that he does become the next Hokage,
after a long an fulfilling life for you, of course,”
Yuki said with a grin.
“Of course,” Tsunade said in the same dry tone.
“I’d like to think over what you’ve said and wait
for a message from my clan before further discussion.”
Tsunade nodded, How are they supposed to send a sign? Or maybe he’s lying? Tsunade
called for Genma and Raido to enter.
“Seeing as the Konoha academy has 33 graduating
students you’re both going to have to be Sensei at least for a while. Please
don’t damage them too badly while making sure that they are worth of passing
and become Shinobi of Konoha. You’ll be getting your packets of information
concerning the students later, please stop by the assignment desk this evening
you’re too meet up with your students tomorrow in the indicated classroom.”
Tsunade said to the two Jounin who grimace and said nothing.
To Yuki she said, “On days that you’re not at the
hospital I expect you to accompany one of the two teams at least until I can
find a team for you. If you are not to tired please
spend a few hours at the hospital doing some healing. Dismissed.”
~~~
That wasn’t too bad for a first
attempt at being acting clan head until a higher ranking member can take my
place, I was sort of even convincing. I wonder if she would live up to her
words if the Hyuuga branch family were to suddenly be freed? It would be a good
way of assessing character before getting too deeply entrenched in the village, I’ll have to see if I can meet with Hyuuga Neji
again.
Not
bad at all I hardly had to help, too bad that’s a bad prediction of how things
will actually end up being, eh?
Don’t over estimate your importance,
Vapours.
Haru snapped back and kept Yuki occupied so that his
smile didn’t get too wide.
