Naruto tossed and turned in his sleep. Images of Sasuke running away from him through the forest plagued him. He gasped as he tried to catch up to his friend. They were soon on the edge of a cliff, and Sasuke jumped off with a panicked look in his eyes. Naruto ran seeing his friends body hurl to the ground as he yelled for Sasuke to grab his hand. Sasuke's hand slipped through his fingers, and the boy was pummeling to the earth beneath him a look of pain on the black heads eyes. Naruto jumped after his friend and cluthched his waist tight to him before saying "Sasuke I will never leave you...Never" His hands were tightening on the soft body when all of a sudden…thump. Naruto fell onto the floor with his pillow and awoke with sweat trickling over his skin.

He gasped “Sasuke”.

His clock read 7:00am. Naruto scrambled out of bed. ‘I’ve got to go see Sasuke now… Something just isn’t right.' Naruto grabbed his orange shorts and put it on quickly 'What happened last night?’ He tossed on a black tee and ran out of his house and headed for Sasuke’s place, staring at the houses that he passed. The village seemed awfully quite today.

As he got closer to the house he saw Sasuke leaning against a tree near the house. Naruto waved to his friend and smiled brightly. “Oi Sasuke how’s it going man. Boy I was really worried about you when you didn’t…” Naruto stopped talking when his friend averted his gaze and looked towards village instead.

He approached his friend and put an arm on his shoulder. “Are you ok Sasuke?” Sasuke slapped Naruto’s hand away.Sasuke jerked as if Naruto's hand was some kind of poison, Sasuke’s voice turned into a hiss “What do you want loser?”. Naruto was shocked to say the least

‘WTF is going on?!’ He thought “Geez what’s with the attitude Sasuke teme, I was just checking up on you, I was worried.” Sasuke turned his gaze to Naruto and shot him an icy glare

“I never told you to worry about me, that’s your fault.”

“Sasuke what the hell is going on with you man. I was never told to worry about you, I do so because you’re my best friend.”

Sasuke thought in his head. He was trying his best to make Naruto forget him but it wasn’t working, he was gonna hate himself for this but he had to do it. “Why would I ever make friends with someone as dumb as you, and on top of that…Naruto… You don’t even know who your father is.”

That one stung Naruto like a wasp infused with electricity. Naruto looked to the ground and a single tear dropped from his face. ‘I don’t know what’s got into Sasuke… but I won’t let him see me cry. I know something’s very wrong here.’ “Sasuke…oh” Naruto left it at that.

He turned around and walked away, but after he took three steps he turned. “ Oh Sasuke here.” Naruto tossed a napkin to Sasuke held together with rubber bands. Naruto then made a dash and ran at an amazing speed. Sasuke looked down at the bundle in his hands and opened it. Inside lay a stone, but it was very unique it was dominantly black but it had streaks of yellow coursing through it.

uke remembered the stone, him and Naruto were out playing in the forest when naruto stumbled upon it. Naruto grinned and stopped to pick up the stone Sasuke pounced on him and slapped his shoulder as he began to gasp "Tag!!! (gasp) You're...(gasp)...it now" Naruto got up and dusted himself and laughed "Ok I'm it, but look at this Sasuke it's a black stone and it has yeloow streaks on it." Sasuke smiled and picked it up "Yeah Naruto it kind of reminds me of us." Sasuke examined it more "See if anything it's just a black stone nothing special about it. But with teh streaks of gold it makes the stone special, and precious. It's kind of how I think about me and you. You know without you I don't think my life would be special at all. I'm so glad I have a friend like you." Sasuke smiled as Naruto pulled him into a tight hug "So Naruto what are you going to do with the stone?" "I think I'm gonna save it for a special occasion and give it to someone I care about later." Sasuke giggled at that and ran away while shouting "You're it remember." Naruto looked up, and noticed Sasuke was almost out of sight "Hey Sasuke I was distracted wait up." Naruto said while trying to catch up to his friend.

Sasuke stared at the stone and cried silently ‘I’m sorry…Naruto’ Sasuke continued to cry all alone by the tree.

Naruto Ran through the village streets not caring about the stares the villagers were sending him. The villagers were worried, they had come to grow quite fond of the boy, and hated seeing him with a look of such intense pain in his eyes.

Naruto ran through his door and bumped into Kakashi. He hugged the man tightly and cried strongly into the mans shirt. “Naruto! Naruto what’s wrong! Son what happened.” Kakashi shouted very worried about his son. He had never seen him this emotional. Naruto looked up with red eyes “It’s Sasuke… he doesn’t… (sniffle) doesn’t like me anymore” Kakashi was stunned, he thought if anyone could reach Sasuke it would be Naruto. He was worried when he found his sons bed empty so early in the morning. Kakashi had a flashback to the night before, he saw Sasuke rocking back and forth as if in a trance. He didn’t know that the accident had caused Sasuke so much stress, or why it caused him to push his best friend aside. But he knew that if given some time things will fall into place. He just had to let his son know that and try and fix whatever damage he could.

“ Son look, I think Sasuke should be the one to tell you what’s bothering him and why he’s acting the way he is. However if I know Sasuke as well as I know you, then I believe he still cares very deeply about you. If you want this friendship to work Naruto, then you are going to have to put all your efforts into it ok. Something happened to Sasuke and it’s really bad, that’s all I can tell you. But you need to believe me when I tell you that Sasuke cares for you more than anyone else. Just have faith son. Cause if you don‘t, then Sasuke will be all alone in this world” Naruto stopped his crying and looked up

“No! I won’t let Sasuke be alone, I understand what you said dad. I’m going to find out what’s bothering Sasuke and I’m gonna make things right.” Naruto walked over to his couch and sobbed quietly into his pillow, he still was pretty banged up from the morning he cried himself to sleep as Kakashi sat next to him rubbing his back. Kakashi was at a loss for anymore words of advice at this point, he just had to trust that time will fix whatever wounds were let to bleed.

Days turned to weeks, and weeks into months, and soon school would be starting again. At first the villagers had questioned why Sasuke and Naruto had suddenly stopped hanging out together, but Naruto always gave the same reply "We've just been busy doing our own things." However Naruto had spent most oh his days trying to find Sasuke. Sasuke had not encountered Naruto during the remainder of their summer, he was also well aware that Naruto was searching for him most of the day, but Sasuke avoided him like he was the plague. Sasuke noticed that after searching until the afternoon that Naruto would usually go and help the villagers with whatever work they were doing.

School started shortly and along with it came Sasuke‘s dread. He couldn’t avoid Naruto during class…or could he. He walked into class and took a seat in the far corner. As if like clockwork Naruto came in and immediately saw him, Naruto walked slowly to Sasuke and stopped short in front of him. “You’ve been avoiding me.” Naruto whispered “But no matter where you go, I’m always going to be there for you…whether you like it or not.”

Sasuke shuddered at that and was about to reply, when Naruto was suddenly shoved to the ground by a girl in pink hair. He was about to punch the girl for hurting Naruto, but then he remembered he was supposed to show Naruto that he didn’t care anymore. Half the class froze when they saw Sasuke do nothing, and watched as Naruto got up and sat at the other end of the class.

Naruto dusted his shirt off and began to read a scroll his dad had given him earlier.

The girls saw Sasuke’s indifference to Naruto and soon there were a pack of girls surrounding the Uchiha, this was there chance now that Naruto was out of the picture. As the girls swarmed Sasuke it became evident to Naruto that he was just going to have to prove his friendship to Sasuke through different methods. Sasuke stared out the class window as the girls started jabbering senselessly, ‘I hope Naruto’s okay… No! I gotta stop thinking about him like that (sigh)’.

Sasuke snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a shrill voice boom next to his ear “Sasuke, don’t listen to that Ino pig over there, my forehead isn’t that big compared to her ego.” shouted the pink hair girl who pushed Naruto earlier. Then a blonde hair girl pushed the pink haired one away “Come on Sasuke check out Sakura’s forehead it’s gotta be bigger than your mansion and my house combined.” Sasuke once again looked out the window and gave snorted “hn”. The two girls took no notice of his apparent irritation and continued to rile him. He mentally blocked them out and began to think of ways to defeat his brother and avenge his clan.

Iruka walked into the room and noticed Naruto and Sasuke sitting apart from each other. He was hoping the two would be on good terms by now after Kakashi had explained to him what had happened, but on one side of the room sat Naruto alone reading a scroll, and on the other Sasuke was staring out the window surrounded by most of the female students except for Hinata, who was blushing and glancing over at Naruto. Iruka walked up to the podium. Iruka yelled to get there attention “Quiet!!! Starting today you are all genin, first level ninja. You will all be grouped into three man squads. I will begin calling out the squads.”

After announcing the first six teams Iruka looked up he knew there might be some sort fo protest.“And now for team seven It will be Naruto Hatake, Sakura Haruno, and Sasuke Uchiha.”

Sasuke stood up at this, “Why do I have to get placed on the same team as Naruto?!” Sakura turned to Ino and gave her a thumbs up and winked. Ino was turning red and about to explode next to a nervous Shikamaru. “Well Sasuke to put it simply we wanted a balance of strength and abilities. You received the highest score in Taijutsu, Naruto received the highest for Ninjutsu, as for Sakura she showed a strong ability in Genjutsu. That’s the reason for your grouping.”

Sasuke sat down at this. All the girls (Except Hinata) had the same thing on their minds, ‘If Sasuke doesn’t like Naruto… maybe we shouldn’t either’. Naruto turned to Sasuke and smiled brightly before turning back to the front of the class. Sasuke felt the smile and it hit him like a ton of bricks. No matter how much he tried to stop thinking about him, Naruto would somehow find his way into the Uchiha’s heart. Iruka brought him back from his thoughts “So you guys can all go out for lunch and when you come back you will get to meet your new jounin teachers.”

The students exited the building, most of them going with their teams. Sakura smile inwardly and rushed to find Sasuke. Sasuke needed to end this now, he needed to find Naruto and tell him to give up. Suddenly a blur of pink rushed up to him and gasped in front of him “Hey Sasuke I was thinking that since were on the same team together that we could have lunch together and get to know each other.” Sasuke just looked at her and snorted before walking away once again, he turned to her and said “Where’s Naruto” The pink haired girl looked to the sky and had a finger on her temple “Well I think he’s bugging Iruka, you know Naruto he never knew his parents so he’s always trying to get adults attention. He such a suck up, that’s why no one our age likes him. When he gets older he’s gonna be all alone, except for the old people, they’ll probably be the only ones who notice him.”

Sasuke had fire in his eyes when she was done talking he walked up slowly to her and whispered in her ear. She thought he was going to let out a confession of love ’Cha, true love wins out’ Sakura shouted inside. “Sakura I believe was your name, if you ever talk about Naruto like that again while were alone you may not live to see another day.” Sakura gasped at that as Sasuke walked away. She kept thinking in her head, why would Sasuke defend Naruto when it was pretty clear that he didn’t like Naruto anymore. Then she though again, she had a mental enlightenment “Aha that was probably Naruto trying to get my attention by pretending to be Sasuke, that’s the only reason that imposter would turn me down.’ Sakura smiled at her realizations. She mentally patted herself on the back before deciding that she would just redouble her efforts to get with Sasuke.

Naruto ate his lunch with Iruka, and the two had a chat about what’s been going on with them, outside Sasuke listened in to the conversation waiting for Naruto to leave Iruka. However Naruto never left Iruka’s side, Sasuke sighed he knew he wasn't going to get Naruto alone at the moment.

During Iruka’s conversation he found out the team seven’s jounin teacher was none other than Kakashi. The drawings for teachers was random, but fate had given them the best one, or the worst when Sasuke though again about it. He didn’t want to get close to Kakashi either. This day was turning into a bad one, he would have to spend most of his days with Naruto and Kakashi and even worse that pink haired bitch. Sasuke groaned at the thought, but he needed to become a ninja if he was ever going to avenge his clan.

The students all returned from lunch and were greeted by their jounin teachers. All except team seven. Naruto knew that his dad visited Obito’s grave daily, and after hearing the story about Obito Naruto went with him to the memorial stone almost as much his dad. Naruto had gained a deep respect for Obito and could only imagine how great of a guy he was, that goes for Rin as well. He knew at this time Kakashi was still praying and he probably wouldn’t meet them until about 4pm. Naruto got out of his chair it read 2pm on his teacher clock. He sat in the far corner and began to meditate and channel his chakra around his body allowing him to hover about an inch of the ground.

Kakashi had taught him this form of training. Naruto thought it would be boring and a bit easy, but he soon learned it required a great amount of energy and concentration. Kakashi was able to hover two feet into the air while Naruto barely managed half an inch. Regardless Kakashi was very proud of his son, it usually took three months to master even just an inch, but Naruto had learned it in a few weeks. Sasuke looked over to Naruto with a blank expression, but inside he was excited to see Naruto had learned how to hover. He was proud of his ex-friend but quickly dismissed it and began to write nothing in particular on a scroll.

Sasuke also knew where Kakashi was, and he respected Kakashi for his dedication to his friends. Sasuke had to be strong though if he wanted to protect Naruto, so he had turned his blank expression into an art practicing in front of a mirror for hours at a time.

Sakura was the only one who didn’t know where the teacher was so she whined the entire four hours about how irresponsible there teacher was. After three hours Naruto gently landed on the ground and stood up.

“Sakura, no matter how much you complain it’s not going to make our teacher come any sooner, all it’s doing is aggravating us and irking us even more. So if you want to be productive, rather than sit around and complain about things you can’t change, I suggest you train what you can in confined areas to make yourself stronger."

Sasuke was angered by this, he wanted Naruto to lash out at the girl, not be so diplomatic about it. Sakura looked as if she had been slapped in the face.

Naruto walked up to her and held her hands, “listen if you want I can teach you a really call jutsu, it allows you to talk to a person mentally through touch alone. That way things that are to be kept private, will remain private.” Sasuke muscles were convulsing as he looked at Naruto holding Sakura's hands.

Naruto had learned how to do this from Kakashi just a month ago, but he had mastered it in less than three days. Sakura looked up into Naruto’s blue eyes and saw the brightness held within them, she was about to let him teach her, but then she shook her head. She remembered however what Naruto had supposedly done to her earlier. She snatched her hands away and looked at him “No. I don’t need your help with anything you brown-nosing pest.”

Sasuke was fuming in his seat at the girls actions, she was really starting to piss him off. He was relieved however that they had let go of each others hands. If Naruto wasn’t there he would have personally shut her up with his foot in her mouth. ‘No one talk to my Naruto like that, no one. Wait did I just say my Naruto…(grrrr) I gotta stop thinking like this’. Sasuke stood up and walked to the window sill and watched patiently for any signs that Kakashi might show up.

After thirty more minutes of waiting Kakashi had arrived, Sakura turned to him and smiled “Hi sensei sir we’ve all been waiting very patiently for you, well me and Sasuke were but not Naruto.” Sasuke tensed up at that and turned to see Naruto’s actions. Naruto put a hand behind his head and chuckled. Sasuke squeezed his hand into a fist, ‘that damn girl will pay’. Kakashi looked at Naruto then to Sasuke and he smiled ‘So Sasuke does care about Naruto… this is going to be interesting.’

“Well I’m sorry for keeping you waiting Naruto” Naruto just grinned at him and walked up to Kakashi and touched his finger. Kakashi was able to see the events that relayed between the three, he was slightly disappointed at Sakura but he didn’t let it bother him. At the end of his mental recap, Naruto sent him a message ‘Don’t mind her she’ll come around…eventually.’ Kakashi nodded and the two broke their connection, he was proud of his son's maturity. Sakura looked at them with an angered look, and Sasuke smiled inside hoping that he cussed out the pink head.

Kakashi looked at them again “Well shall we get going then”. All three nodded and headed for the rooftops with Kakashi. Kakashi started “Well why don’t you all introduce yourselves, I know some of you, but I’d like for you all to get to know each other.” Sasuke shuddered he wanted nothing to do with letting the pink head know anything about himself.

“You can start with your likes and dislikes , your hopes and dreams, you know that sort of thing.”

“Well da… I mean Kakashi sensei why don’t you start so we know how to do it ok”. Naruto suggested. “Sure Naruto, Well my name is Kakashi Hatake and I am a jounin as you all know. I like spending time with my son, his friend, and Iruka.” Sasuke mentally groaned at this.

“I dislike liars, but most of all people who turn their backs on their friends” Sasuke groaned once again

“Now let’s see my hopes are that you will all become good friends…again, and my dreams are to see you all become the best you can be. It is my dream because there is nothing I can do about it, that dream can only be fulfilled if you yourselves want that to happen.”

Kakashi turned his gaze to Naruto, he saw his son smiling at him and giving him a thumbs up “So Naruto why don’t you go next”

Naruto stood up and went to the center

“My name is Naruto Hatake, I really like ramen, mostly because the very first friend I ever had kinda suggested it to me. Ever since then I’ve been addicted to the stuff. I dislike… I probably dislike people who aren’t happy being themselves, it makes me sad when I see so much potential. My hopes are the same as Kakashi sensei, I too hope to become closer to you all, regardless of how you may treat me.” Naruto looked down to the ground after a while he smiled and looked up “And my dream is to be Hokage, I want to help put an end to needless sufferings around our village. I want to help people to become the best, not only will it help our village, but it will make our village as a whole, stronger and more unified.”

Naruto sat down and Kakashi smiled at his son, then he turned to Sakura “Now you Ms. Haruno” Sakura stayed sitting on the floor and spoke up

“I like….” she then blushed and looked at Sasuke “My hopes are…” She continued to giggle “My dreams are…” She began to blush now. Kakashi began to get irritated, but Kakashi could see that the girl was really pissing Sasuke off. “Well Ms. Haruno is there anything you don’t like?” Sakura turned “Naruto!!!” She said while glaring at the blonde. Kakashi sighed ‘girls her age are more interested in boys than in ninja training’ Kakashi could see Sasuke fuming even more now, he saw how Sasuke had wanted to defend his blonde friend, but something was holding him back, and he needed to find out what it was. He promised himself that he would make sure he found out what was bothering his friend Sasuke.

“And you Sasuke tell us about yourself” Sasuke stared up blankly “My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things and I don’t particularly like anything”. Naruto chuckled on the side, he knew a lot of things that Sasuke did like, he figured Sasuke was doing this to get the girl off his back. “I hope that I won’t be slowed down by my other teammates. What I have is not a dream, rather a goal since I will achieve it. I will become stronger, then I will kill a certain someone.” Naruto was now more dumbfounded than ever ‘Who is Sasuke talking about, I hope it’s not pink head. Sure she’s irritating but killing her? That’s a little harsh don’t you think’.

Kakashi sighed “Well then you’re all dismissed, we’ll meet at the training grounds at 5am, oh and I’d skip breakfast if I were you. Otherwise you’ll end up puking.” The three looked at him in shock, before the jounin disappeared in a puff of smoke. Kakashi raced through the rooftops thinking about what he witnessed. He saw how Sasuke had put up a blank face, but he also saw different muscles tensing when Naruto was mentioned. He knew Sasuke was trying to hide what he felt about Naruto, but why, was the question. Hopefully tomorrow things will become more clear.

The only certain thing about the future is that it will surprise even those who have seen furthest into it.
