By the end of the school day, Iruka was exhausted. The lack of sleep over the weekend had finally caught up to him. He hoped that meant he'd be able to sleep that night because he very much was not looking forward sleeping alone. He'd gotten kind of used to having them next to him.
It didn't help that he was hungry. He'd skipped lunch to ferret out Shinjo's other teachers and talk to them about him. He was, apparently, having trouble in all his classes. He didn't like it, but he may be forced to hold the kid back. So by the time he was leaving the teahouse Shinjo's mother ran, he was hungry and very tired. And irritable, because yet again, he'd gotten nowhere talking to the woman.
It might have been a little cowardly, but he stopped at the store on the way home and bought an extra toothbrush and razor. He could have gone over to their house to get his, but he didn't want to look like he was assuming anything by showing up. They hadn't told him to come back to their house and he didn't want to just show up. Yes, they'd admitted feelings, but that didn't guarantee a damn thing. As he'd learned well.
He'd told Raido he loved him. And the feelings, he was fairly certain, had been reciprocated, at least to a point. But that didn't stop Raido from falling in love with someone else, that didn't change the fact that they'd never done more than spend the occasional night at the other person's apartment. There were no guarantees.
So he was standing in the checkout waiting to pay for his toothbrush and razor and kicking himself for not grabbing his on the way out that morning. He paid for his items, and headed home, stopping once more to pick up a bowl of ramen for dinner, not in the mood to cook.
When he climbed the stairs to his apartment, though, he didn't feel the same relief he usually did at getting home after a long day. One day and he was already missing them. One day and all he could think about was seeing them, kissing them, spending a dinner at the table with them. It wasn't even the sex, though that was, of course, good. He just wanted to be near them.
So when he turned the corner from the stairwell and detected a chakra signature, he thought, at first, that his mind had conjured it. He'd recognize either of theirs anywhere and he sensed Kakashi's from quite a ways away. The man was practically broadcasting, which was a very unusual for him.
More than a little confused, Iruka twisted the knob, not bothering with his key, and stepped into his apartment. "Told you he'd come here." Kakashi's voice called.
Iruka paused for a moment, wondering who he was talking to. Then he realized that it was probably second nature for Yamato to suppress his chakra after so many years in ANBU and hadn't thought to change that. Sure enough, though, when Iruka walked into the main part of his apartment, there he was on the bed. He had a small piece of wood in his hand and his whittling knife. Kakashi was nowhere to be seen.
He dropped his school bag and kicked his sandals off. After hanging up his vest, he stepped further into the living room. "Is there a reason you're broadcasting your chakra signature far enough to be detected in Suna?" Iruka asked the copy nin.
"Come on, sensei, one of the first rules of ninja life is to never surprise them." Kakashi said, emerging from the teacher's kitchen.
"I'm fairly certain every ninja down on the street below is well aware that you're in my apartment right now." Iruka said. "I hardly think you needed to go that far to keep from surprising me. What's going on?"
Kakashi walked over to him and laid his lips over the teacher's. "Hi."
Iruka nearly moaned at just that little kiss. "Hi. I…" he swallowed. "How was your day?"
Kakashi grinned. "I missed you, too," he said and turned back to the kitchen. "Not too bad. Long. How was yours?"
Iruka just stood there a moment, holding his take out ramen. "So, um, what's going on?" Shaking his head, he walked into the kitchen to see Kakashi cooking. He blinked. "Why are you cooking?"
"Because it's one of two ways of getting dinner?" The copy nin replied.
Iruka closed his eyes and sent up a bid for patience. "That's not what I meant and you know it. Why are you here, in my kitchen, cooking?"
"Well, I would have cooked in my kitchen, but I don't have quite as much of a problem with strange ones as you do." He paused to stir something. "So I thought it would make more sense just to make it here, rather than carry the cooked food around. I had a feeling you'd take a while getting home." He looked up from the frying pan full of fish in front of him.
Iruka just blinked at him. "Either I am really tired or I'm missing something."
Kakashi considered him a moment. "Well, you didn't eat breakfast or lunch, you didn't get much sleep at all over the weekend and I'd bet money that you stopped at your student's house to try to talk to his mother again before you came home."
The younger man stared at him. "How did you know I missed lunch?"
Kakashi just shook his head. He took the ramen and put it in Iruka's refrigerator. "Go sit next to Yamato. This should be done in a few minutes."
It was a testament to just how tired he was that he didn't argue. Instead, he turned and walked back out to his main room and sat down on the bed. "Hi."
"Hey." Yamato grinned. "Welcome home. Long day?"
Iruka nodded. "Yeah. And it doesn't help to come home and be thoroughly confused." He rubbed his hand over his face. "Maybe you'll answer me. Why are you guys here?"
"Is it a problem that we are?" Yamato asked instead.
Iruka let out a grunt of frustration. "Is it 'answer Iruka's question with a question day'?" He sighed. "No, it's not."
"Okay, then." Yamato said, concentrating on his whittling.
Iruka sighed and laid back on his bed for a moment, giving in. If they were going to tell him, they would. He didn't know his eyes closed, didn't realize he'd fallen asleep, but what felt like a few seconds later, Kakashi was shaking him lightly. " 'Ruka, wake up."
The younger man opened his eyes. "Shit, I fell asleep, didn't I?"
"Yeah, but you were only out for a few minutes. Dinner's ready." Kakashi stood and Iruka forced himself to sit up.
"Let me go wash my face. I'll be right back," He said, stumbling into the bathroom. After splashing himself with cold water and re-brushing his hair, he felt a little better. When he came back out, he saw that they had his tiny table set and bowls of rice, hot soup and fish were out. His mouth watered just looking at it.
He glanced at each of the other men. "Thank you," he said, not sure how to handle this. He was getting damned tired of being completely out of his element.
"You're welcome. Let's just eat, hmm?" Kakashi said, accurately sensing Iruka's mood and dug into his soup.
He took the seat in the middle and looked over at Yamato. Then, throwing caution to the wind, he leaned over and kissed him. The other man returned the kiss and it took a big effort on both sides to pull back. It was only the fact that his stomach chose that moment to growl that Yamato seemed willing to let go of him.
He turned his attention to the food and all three of them ate in silence for a while. Iruka glanced up once to see Kakashi watching him. The copy nin smiled. "I'm glad you like it."
"Sorry." Iruka blushed and forced himself to slow down. He'd been practically devouring the food.
"No need to be sorry. I like seeing my food disappear." Kakashi grinned and went back to his own meal.
"Yeah, I can understand that." He ate a few more bites, then sighed. "Okay, will one of you please answer me now? Why are you guys here?"
"I had a feeling you wouldn't go to the house. And since we were going to want to see you, we both agreed the only way to do that was be here when you got here," Kakashi said, pausing to take a sip of his tea.
Iruka shook his head, frowning. "I didn't want to assume anything." He finished his soup and pushed the bowl aside, turning to his rice and fish.
Yamato nodded. "We fell into that trap, too. When we first got together, neither of us wanted to make the first real move. Aside from admitting our feelings, we didn't want to push, weren't willing to talk about things. " He finished his own soup, then took a bite of fish.
"I finally asked him out on a date. That's when we went to the seafood restaurant the first time and later that night to the bar." Kakashi trailed off.
Iruka smiled. "I remember the bar. When you guys kissed in public for the first time?"
Yamato laughed. "Yeah. I think I got shit from every ninja we knew for months after that. In fact, they only stopped talking about it a few weeks ago. Until today, that is."
"Oh?" Iruka asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, the foreman sniggered at us when we got there." He chuckled. "Then when we moved to work on some of the cleanup, several other ninja started whispering."
"I activated my sharingan, just to be sure of what they were saying, then walked over to them." He laughed. "They looked terrified. I didn't even have to do anything. They practically ran away. It was wonderful." He paused, to eat a bite of his fish. "Oh, I also saw your ex-lover this morning."
"The Bastard?" Iruka nearly choked on his tea. "Was he on the desk?"
"Yeah. He tried to send us out. When I offered to check with Lady Tsunade about it, he nearly panicked. I had a lot of fun with him." Kakashi said, shaking his head.
"I had my own scene this morning. Three of the new teachers who are some of the worst on the gossip mill asked me if I got bit by a hairdryer." He told them what he'd said and both of the other men were laughing hard by the time he was done. Iruka frowned. "This won't be the end of it."
Kakashi shrugged. "I know. I told you that we don't care, do we, Yamato?"
The other man shook his head. "Nope. It's fun."
Iruka shrugged. "Well, then. To assholes," he said, holding up his cup, "may they offer us plenty of entertainment."
"To assholes!" The other two held up their tea cups and they clinked them.
Yamato tried to do all the clean up, but Iruka insisted on helping, citing their own rules about the one not cooking cleans up. They both grumbled, but knew they had no way out. Iruka was feeling better after Kakashi's dinner, anyway.
It didn't take long, anyway, with both of them working together. They didn't talk much, just handed things back and forth as they needed to. There were a few questions about where things should go, but that was about it. Yamato did manage to distract Iruka once when he'd started kissing on his neck. "We're trying to get something accomplished, here," the teacher grumbled.
"Precisely," Yamato said in his ear, continuing the torture. He wrapped his arms around the younger man and worked his way up one side of his neck, then started down the other. But when he moved to the spot behind Iruka's ear, the younger man was finally forced to push his elbow into the Yamato's stomach.
"You're as bad as Kakashi. Get out." It took all of the younger man's will to keep the moan out of his voice.
"Nope, can't do that."
"Then do something useful, besides distracting me." He handed the other man a sponge. "Wipe down the stove."
"Yes, sensei," Yamato said with a laugh and dodged the towel Iruka snapped at him.
When they were done, though, Iruka found himself yet again at a loss. There was no way they could sleep there. His tiny bed had barely been big enough for him and Raido and that had been a stretch.
He and Yamato came back out into the main room and he paused when he saw Kakashi stretched out on his bed, one arm behind his head, Icha Icha volume in hand. He just took a moment to look him over, loving the fact that he could see all of his face, that he had the freedom to do so.
"Please tell me you're not going to make us try to sleep on this horrible bed." Kakashi said from behind his book.
Iruka blinked at him. "Of course not. You don't have to stay here."
"Well then, you might want to get a clean uniform and anything else you need. No reason to stay here and try to be comfortable on your pathetic furniture." Kakashi said.
Iruka glared. "My furniture is not pathetic. I'll agree it's not made like Yamato's beautiful pieces, but it works for me." He glanced at the other brunet in time to see the blush. " And why would I get a clean uniform?"
Kakashi moved his book aside. "Are you being obtuse on purpose?"
The teacher raised an eyebrow. "Hardly."
Kakashi sat up and tucked his book away. "We're going to have to sit down and talk about this, but now isn't the time. You're exhausted, I can see it. I could pack for you," he offered, but Iruka shook his head.
"I'll get it." He sighed and turned to his closet. "Dammit, I left my bag at your house."
"Don't forget the clock." Yamato reminded him.
Iruka looked over his shoulder, chuckling. "Right. But I might suggest you put it on the other side of the bed tonight. Grab that one," he said, pointing to the one on his bedside table. He turned back to his closet and frowned. He dug out his old mission pack and grabbed the things he'd need. He shook his head to himself. He'd just been bemoaning the idea of sleeping alone and yet he was still fighting going with them. He didn't understand himself. No wonder he couldn't understand them.
In a few short minutes, his apartment was once again closed and they were on their way to the other men's house. Iruka was wondering, yet again, what he'd gotten himself into.
When they got to the house, kicked off their shoes and hung everything up, Iruka paused, not sure what to do. Yamato took the pack from him, though and started into the bedroom. Determined to not let the man act like a servant, he followed.
"I can do that." Iruka said as they approached the closet.
"I don't mind." He smiled. "Remember I do the laundry around here. Kakashi's not allowed near the machines."
Iruka chuckled. "I remember, but, I'm just…" he trailed off because he didn't really know what he was.
Yamato raised his eyebrows. "Yes?"
Iruka shook his head in frustration. "I don't know, frankly. I don't even get myself these days." He yawned. "And I don't have the brain capacity tonight to try to figure it out. I'm sorry." He frowned.
"Go sit with Kakashi." He pointed to the end of the closet. When Iruka looked in, he noticed it was mostly empty. Except for his sweater, the dress shirt and the dress pants he'd left there, which were all hung neatly. He stared for a moment, shaking his head. "Your stuff will be here. Now, go sit with our boyfriend for a little while."
Iruka blinked at him, then turned around. Our boyfriend. He shook his head at himself. He guessed Kakashi was. He just hadn't thought about it. When he got out to the living room, the man in question was sitting on the couch with his feet propped on the coffee table, book in hand, so Iruka sat next to him. "Yamato kicked me out, told me I wasn't allowed to hang my stuff up."
"That sounds like him. You can turn the TV on if you want to." Kakashi said around his novel.
"Mind if I read one of the other volumes instead?" Iruka asked.
"You read Icha Icha?" Kakashi said, lowering the orange book.
Iruka blushed. "Yeah, but don't tell Naruto. He already thinks I'm a hentai."
Kakashi laughed. "Help yourself."
Iruka picked his favorite one, Icha Icha Tactics and sat back down next to Kakashi. He flipped it open and started to read. A few minutes later, Yamato came out and picked up the statue he hadn't quite finished. Almost against his will, Iruka found himself watching around the book as the other man settled in front of the fireplace again with his sandpaper. When Yamato glanced up, though, Iruka forced his attention back to the book.
He'd just managed to get lost in the story when he felt Kakashi's arm move. A few seconds later, the tie was tugged out of his hair and he felt fingers comb through it. His eyes closed as they worked over his scalp, rubbing lightly and despite the tiredness, he felt himself stir. He moaned quietly and looked up at the other man.
He was watching Iruka intently and when their eyes met, he leaned in and laid his lips gently on the other's. The Icha Icha books were forgotten, they fell to the floor and their arms went around each other. It wasn't a deep kiss, not all that heated, but it went through Iruka all the same. They broke apart briefly for air and sat that way, just a few centimeters apart, staring at each other.
He ran his fingers over the older man's cheek, then speared them through the silver hair again. Kakashi's lips captured his again and this time, the kiss deepened. Their tongues slid along each other's, and the teacher felt the moan that came from the other man. When they pulled back this time, Kakashi nibbled his way along Iruka's jaw up to his ear. He nipped at the earlobe lightly, teased the shell, then tormented that spot right behind again.
Iruka let out his own quiet moan and shuddered as the sensations poured through him. Kakashi pulled him across his lap and started kissing him again. The younger man felt the couch dip and knew Yamato had joined them. His pants were opened and pulled down, then he felt the other man's lips on him.
He sucked in a breath as that talented mouth got to work. "Oh god…" he said and one hand went down to weave through the short brown hair. Yamato knew just how to work him, what to do and when his balls were cupped and teased, he hissed out a breath.
Kakashi wasn't letting up during this, either. He was still kissing and sucking on Iruka's neck, ears, anywhere he could get to around the shirt. Their lips met once more and the older man's tongue moved in a mimic of the real thing, causing Iruka to go even more insane.
So when Iruka lost it and came hard only a few moments later, he was stunned. He lay across Kakashi's lap, in his arms. Yamato's head was resting on his stomach, his arms around Iruka's waist. He wrapped his own arms around the other brunet, holding him as much as he could.
He cleared his throat to try to speak. Nothing came to him at first, he had no idea what to say. He opened his mouth to say something along the lines of 'thank you' but "I love you" came out instead.
Yamato looked up at him and smiled. He reached up and ran a hand along Iruka's face. "I love you, too."
He felt Kakashi's lips against his temple. "I love you, too," drifted into his ear and his eyes closed as he really felt loved.
He'd never felt this with Raido or Izumo, certainly not with any of his one night stands. This, this was real. This was what he'd been needing, craving for so long. In that moment, he felt like the luckiest man on earth.
He opened his eyes and looked at each of them for a moment, then made a move to stand up. They let him and he held his hands out. It was time to show them just how much he loved them, too.
He woke the next morning, curled around Kakashi, his face buried in the man's back, his arms wrapped around him. He looked up to see that he'd beaten the alarm by just a few minutes and he carefully reached over the other man to turn it off. They'd all need to get up soon, but they could afford a few minutes.
Yamato was curled around him so that he was neatly sandwiched between the two of them. He closed his eyes another minute to remember the night before. He'd done everything he could think of to pleasure them. When he'd taken Yamato inside of himself, the other man couldn't seem to stop telling him over and over again how much he loved him. And when he had finished, filling Iruka with his seed, the teacher made sure to tell him again, made sure he heard it, too.
Kakashi was quieter, not quite as verbal as their lover was, but he showed it in his own ways. For him, it was the kisses and touches, the quiet whispers. It was the look in his eye, the fact that he'd opened both of them and spent time memorizing Iruka's face as he came. And when he finally let himself go, he did say it then, making sure that the younger man heard it.
As he lay there, he began to think about all they'd done for him, all they'd told him. And he asked himself then, what did he want? It was true, he hadn't expected all of this and it was fair that he'd been so confused and unsure. But if he pushed his own insecurities aside for a moment, he recognized that all they'd done is show him that they wanted him. All they'd done is try to spend time with him.
And with that realization, came a bit of clarity. They'd tried to tell him over and over again, that they didn't know what he was thinking. That he'd need to talk, too, and maybe the reason things were so damned murky was because he'd been the one to keep things hidden.
To be fair, again, he didn't know exactly what he wanted. He'd just wanted to be with them for so long, been attracted to them for so long that he didn't realize just how much in love with them he'd already been. And making love had, of course, only sealed it. But now that he did know, something else became clear.
He was fairly certain he'd never love anyone else like he loved them and that was a very scary thought. The fact was, they were still ninja. Regardless of the current political climate among the shinobi nations, there was always the chance that something could happen. War, disputes, another group like the Akatsuki could surface at any time.
And just because he was a teacher and spent most of his time in a building in the village didn't mean he was immune. He'd been caught in Pein's attack, too. It was only because of Tsunade's slug that he'd managed to survive as it was. And that had been completely out of his control.
He sighed. Everyone knew just how unsure their lives were. He was nothing special in that, though maybe he was a little more aware than others. Hadn't he lost his own parents because of their profession? Could he handle losing these two men that he loved, too?
The answer to that was that he didn't know. But what he did know was that he didn't want to waste what time they did have and he'd been doing enough of that already. He didn't know what he was going to do to change it yet, but he'd figure something out.
In the meantime, they had to get up. He untangled his arms from around the copy nin and ran his hands down over the other man's arm. " 'Kashi. Wake up," he said, dropping light kisses on his shoulder.
"I'm awake. I've heard the gears turning in your head for the last ten minutes," Kakashi said with a chuckle. "They were loud. And smelly, too, the smoke is rather bad."
"You're funny," Iruka said and, channeling a bit of chakra into his hands, pushed hard. Kakashi landed with a thump on the floor.
"Remind me not to piss you off first thing in the morning." The copy nin said from the floor.
"I'm awake!" Yamato said as Iruka started to turn. "Don't push me out of bed. I love you!"
Iruka laughed, dropped a kiss on his other lover and climbed out of bed, stepping over Kakashi's prone form. He glanced down. "You're so mean, sensei," the older man whimpered.
The teacher snorted. "Yeah, I wasn't the one insulting my lover first thing in the morning."
Kakashi sighed. "True. I'm sorry." He affected a pout. "I love you. Forgive me?"
Iruka laughed and held out his hand. "Come on, I don't want to have to run to work this morning."
His forgiveness cost him a solid twenty minutes when he was pulled down onto Kakashi. He was, in fact, quite late.
