fallen_angelz: Okay, I just wanted to throw this chapter up since I'm sure somebody's thinking "Is Mahina ever going to say anything?" cause my muse was wondering the same thing. So this chapter, me thinks that there will be a surprise for everybody.

Chapter Seven

Drip. Drip. Drip.

He knew it couldn't be good if he was here, but Kyuubi never talked to him without a good reason now. "What do you want?" Naruto questioned when he saw the giant fox demon.

"We need to discuss the kit and possible mothers for her."

Hold on a minute, possible mothers for Mahina?! "What the hell are you talking about?!" Naruto questioned, his eyes showing shock. "Possible mothers for Mahina?"

Kyuubi patiently looked at Naruto for a minute before saying, "She is still a very young kit, even in kitsune standards. While it may not be overly rare for a single father to take care of a kit, it is dangerous. If something were to happen to you, then your kit would be without a decent parent."

"My friends have agreed to take care of her if something should happen!" Naruto protested. "Kakashi agreed to be her godfather. Everybody else thinks that it's a good choice."

"Yes, she can learn to read that perverted shit."

"Okay, how'd we get off topic?" Naruto questioned. "Why are you concerned about Mahina? You'd better not be thinking about using her as your new vessel."

Kyuubi looked patiently at Naruto, carefully studying him. Despite his fearsome exterior, he still cared for the child. Harming children was beneath him yet from how his idiot jailor was acting, he devoured children. "Even if I had been considering such a thing, one of us would have destroyed the other." Kyuubi answered smoothly. "My concern for the kit comes from the fact that she has endured much more in her young life than you have. Kits learn many things from their parents and it isn't a secret to her that you were lacking half decent parental figures."

"I turned out okay!"

"Okay won't cut it for her. Females learn many things from their fathers, but sometimes more from their mothers. Yes, she is learning to be empathic but there will be things that you will be unaware of because she will be embarrassed to ask."

"Such as?"

"Her feminine cycle."

Naruto's face turned bright red before he answered, "That won't happen until she's around eleven or twelve!"

He shouldn't have been surprised that Naruto hadn't thought that far ahead. Kyuubi knew full well how much Naruto loved the little girl, but the blonde's love for the child was blinding him. He didn't see the looks of envy that flickered in the little girl's eyes when she saw other children with their mothers. "You should take into consideration how much a female model is needed for the child." Kyuubi said with a small flick of one of his tails. "Someone who is unbound to another and loves the kit and yourself."

"Why do I get the feeling that you've been compiling a list of women that would suit your standards?" Naruto asked wearily.

"Because I have been." Kyuubi answered simply. "Of course, I'll be awaiting your list. Now leave."

With a small push, Naruto found himself leaving the sewers of his mind.

Someone who would love him and Mahina both.

Naruto sighed as he thought about what Kyuubi had said, knowing full well that the fox was telling the truth. Despite what the council believed, Kyuubi did indeed care for the child and didn't want to use her to keep himself alive. Saying that the child needed a maternal figure was actually true.

Okay, now that he had admitted that Mahina needed a mother more than anything, Naruto began thinking of all the women he knew. Sakura was immediately out since she and Sai had started dating shortly after Mahina's arrival. Okay, there was Ino. No, she was dating Chouji and wedding bells weren't too far off. Umm... Temari? Damn it, that wouldn't work either. She was like a sister to him and she hadn't met Mahina. Besides, she was dating Shikamaru and everybody knew where the hell that was going.

Naruto groaned as he went into the living room, lying down on the couch as he tried to think. Anko? Fuck no! As much as he liked the snake mistress, he knew that she was just a bit too intimidating and besides, she was with Iruka. How exactly the mild mannered chuunin teacher could stand being with someone as fiery tempered as her was a mystery in itself. There must have been something that only the teacher could see that he was missing.

Shizune? No, she was with Genma. Besides, he saw her as a sister too so that would have been a bit weird. Okay, where there any available kunoichi that actually liked the hellion known as Mahina? "Naruto-kun, we're back." A soft voice called as the apartment door opened.

That was it!

Naruto grinned as the little girl jumped onto his stomach, her eyes dancing happily. "Did you girls have fun?" Naruto questioned, noticing that Mahina had gotten a haircut. "Hey, that's a cute haircut."

"You can still mess with it, but it accents her face more." Hinata answered with a smile as she put the bags down.

"Thanks, Hinata. I'm good with weapons, but clothes... ugh." Naruto answered with a grin. "I might get her something orange."

"She picked out a couple of orange outfits." Hinata admitted.

Mahina looked at Hinata and grinned, jumping off of Naruto's stomach earning a small grunt from the blonde. She giggled as she wrapped her arms around Hinata's legs, looking up at her with a pleading look. "I think someone wants you to stay." Naruto chuckled as he got up and checked the time. "Hinata, would you like to stay for dinner?"

Hinata felt her heart racing in her chest as she looked at the blonde. It wasn't a secret that over the years he had gotten more attractive and had his own personal fan club. Then again, it wasn't a secret that a few members of his fan club didn't like the blonde's daughter. Why they didn't like her, Hinata had no clue. She thought the little girl was as sweet as could be. "I'd love to. That is, if it's no problem." Hinata answered shakily.

The little girl frowned slightly, hearing the shakiness in Hinata's voice. Taking the Hyuuga heiress's hand, Mahina led her to the couch and helped Naruto as they helped Hinata sit down. "Are you okay?" Naruto questioned with a concerned look as Mahina ran into the kitchen to get Hinata some water.

"Probably didn't get enough to drink earlier." Hinata answered softly.

She looked surprised when Mahina came back with a tall glass of water, obviously trying not to spill any of it. "There you go." Naruto said with a soft smile. "Thank you, Hi-Hi. You're a sweetheart."

"Yes, thank you." Hinata said as she lightly ruffled the little girl's hair.

Mahina smiled happily as she looked between Naruto and Hinata. Could they not see how perfectly they fit together? Probably not, since grownups were rather stupid sometimes. Motioning that she was going to her room, Mahina grabbed the bags that held her new school clothes and dragged them into her bedroom to put them away.

Naruto chuckled softly knowing full well that the little girl had sensed what he had been thinking about. "Are you feeling better?" Naruto questioned.

"H-hai. Thank you." Hinata said as she stood up.

"Come on. You can watch the great Naruto Uzumaki make a meal." Naruto said with a laugh.

"Does it involve ramen?"

"Wouldn't you know that my little terror doesn't like ramen all that much?"

Hinata laughed as they went into the kitchen, sitting down and watching as the blonde began pulling random things out of the fridge and cupboards. She was surprised at how many of the items were actually healthy, but she supposed from the looks of an already well worn cookbook that obviously had a place on the counter, Naruto had been trying like hell. "I didn't know you could cook." Hinata commented lightly.

"I can make simple stuff."

"That's a good thing."

"Yeah."

"Is Mahina learning?"

"Yeah. Hi-Hi actually loves cooking. This morning she woke up early and tried cooking. Did a pretty good job but the pancakes were burned beyond edibility."

Hinata laughed, her eyes falling on the plate of burn food that still sat on the counter. Her eyes widened when she saw a hand-drawn radioactivity sign resting against the pancakes, the sign's creator obvious. "I think she took a picture of it and once it's developed, she's going to tell people that I made them." Naruto chuckled as he threw the burned pancakes away.

Hinata laughed again, nodding in agreement. Word had already spread through Konoha's ranks about how much the little girl loved pranks, earning groans from several of Konoha's older members. To them, they had a second Naruto on the loose and already rumors were spreading around that the little girl was Naruto's biological daughter. Of course, rumors were also saying that if that was the case, then the little girl wasn't human either. "Damn it!" Hinata heard Naruto curse.

The Hyuuga heiress jumped up from her spot, immediately going over to Naruto. She frowned when she saw that he was nursing his finger, seeing the drops of blood on the counter. "Naruto-kun, do you know how many germs are in the human mouth?" Hinata scolded lightly as she took Naruto's finger from his mouth.

Naruto grinned sheepishly, blushing slightly when Hinata began cleaning the cut. "Would you believe me if I said that it'll be healed up in about five minutes?" Naruto questioned with a sheepish grin.

"That's all it takes for bacteria to get in and start up an infection."

The blonde chuckled as he grabbed a bandage, watching as Hinata began wrapping the cut. "Okay, I'll be careful." Naruto promised. "I promise."

"Okay."

Hinata smiled faintly as she looked at the bandaged finger, sighing softly. She knew full well that the blonde's cut would heal up in no time, but she couldn't help but worry about him. Her eyes widened when she felt Naruto's hand gently cup her cheek, her breaths catching in her chest as she looked up at him. "You're amazing." Naruto told her softly. "Absolutely amazing."

"N-Naruto-kun?" Hinata stammered.

Naruto smiled softly at Hinata, his eyes soft before questioning, "Will you be willing to go out to dinner with me this Friday at seven?"

The world faded away to black for a minute, but when Hinata opened her eyes, she was in the living room with Naruto looking worriedly at her. "What happened?" Hinata questioned.

"You fainted when I asked you if you'd like to go out to dinner this Friday."

"So it wasn't a dream?"

"Do you dream about me asking you out often?"

Hinata felt her face turning slightly red in embarrassment before the sound of glass breaking reached their ears. The two shinobi ran into Mahina's room, seeing that she was standing in the middle of a puddle of broken glass, her eyes wide as she stared out the window. "Mahina!" Naruto gasped, his eyes wide.

Before he could move, Hinata darted past him and stepped on the broken glass. A small sound left Mahina's lips as she was snatched from the sea of glass. Naruto quickly darted to the window, staring out as he searched frantically for whoever broke the window. Flaring his chakra, he told Hinata to take Mahina to the living room just as an ANBU officer showed up. "Somebody tried hurting Mahina or taking her. I don't know which one but I want them found." Naruto said, the urgency evident in his eyes.

"Understood." The ANBU said before taking off.

The blonde was half tempted to dart out the window and hunt for the person himself but he forced himself to go into the living room. There, he saw Mahina crying as Hinata carefully pull the glass shards from their feet. Somebody had tried to hurt them, but why? What had they done to deserve such cruelty? "It's okay, Hi-Hi. We'll find whoever did it." Naruto said as he handed the little girl a soft blue blanket.

Mahina held tightly onto the blanket, sniffling as she felt Hinata healing her feet. She hadn't done anything bad and someone decided to hurt her and Hinata-nee-chan! "Hey, Mahina, this isn't anything bad." Hinata said gently. "Did Naruto ever tell you about the Chuunin exams?"

The little girl shook her head slightly, sniffling as she looked at the two adults. "Well, it was when we were around thirteen years old or so. We were all called the Rookie Nine." Naruto began as he looked at Hinata's feet. "The first two tests were tough, but the final test had to be the toughest yet..."
They had wondered how long it would take before Tsunade showed up at the apartment, but by then the little girl was beginning to doze off. "What happened?" Tsunade questioned calmly.

"Hinata and I were in the kitchen talking when she fainted." Naruto answered. "I brought her into the living room and when she woke up we were talking again. Then we heard the sound of glass breaking so we ran into Mahina's room and saw her standing on the glass. Hinata grabbed Mahina and I told them to come out to the living room when the ANBU showed up."

"Did you see anybody?" Tsunade questioned.

"No, by then whoever had broken the window had gone."

Mahina looked at Naruto for a moment through half lidded eyes, apparently comfortable where she was. They didn't know if she saw who had thrown the rock, but they probably weren't going to ask her that yet. The grownups had to be asked first, just incase they saw something. She needed to tell them, but if she said something would she be bad?

She remembered Sasuke telling her that if she ever said anything, he'd make sure she didn't say anything else ever again. He didn't want her to say anything to Orochimaru or any of the experiments. If she told Naruto, would she be okay? He wasn't Orochimaru and he wasn't any of the experiments, so she should be okay. Besides, Sasuke wasn't there so he wouldn't know if she said anything.

He knows everything though, remember? Remember what happened when you told someone what Orochimaru did to you? A cold voice in her mind whispered. Sasuke wasn't there but he knew what you did. He knew that you talked. You should keep quiet so he can't do anything. But Naruto was here, he wouldn't let no one hurt her. He didn't like it when anybody was hurting, that's why he tried calming her down while he took care of Hinata-nee-chan's feet.

No, it was stupid to be afraid of Sasuke when he wasn't even there. He couldn't get her and Orochimaru sure as hell couldn't get her. Stupid Sasuke wouldn't do anything if Naruto was watching cause he didn't want to make him mad. Besides, she was always with someone who was strong and stupid Sasuke wouldn't dare run the chance of getting caught.

Biting her lip, Mahina looked up at Naruto and saw the concern in his eyes. He didn't understand what had happened anymore than she did. Did daddies get scared just like kids did? As she looked at Hinata, she could see that she was worried too. Mommies got scared too, but Hinata wasn't her mommy. Her eyes fell on Tsunade, seeing the anger that was barely contained. Grandmas got scared, but her grandma got mad instead and broke furniture.

Naruto sighed softly, wondering what the hell they were going to do now. He knew they could easily crash at one of their friends' places, but he didn't want to inconvenience them. Just as he was about to suggest that he and Mahina go to stay at a hotel for the night, he heard a soft voice come from the couch. "D... Daddy." The soft voice whispered.

The three adults looked at the little girl, seeing that she looked scared. "Did you say something, Mahina?" Naruto questioned, kneeling down in front of the little girl.

"I think she did." Hinata whispered, her eyes showing surprise.

Tears gathered in Mahina's eyes as she threw herself into Naruto's arms, sobs leaving her lips. "It's okay, sweetheart. Daddy's here." Naruto said softly as he gently rubbed the little girl's back.

"I'm not bad like Sasuke says!" Mahina sobbed. "I'm not bad!"

As Naruto soothed his daughter's tears, he mentally sighed. They had taken two steps forward, but now they had stepped back three steps. "I know, sweetie, I know." Naruto answered softly. "I'm so proud of you right now. Shh, that's my big girl."

"Tomorrow morning, I want you two in my office." Tsunade told them calmly. "Until then, try to get some rest."

Those orders were easier said then done. Somehow, though, after Hinata had gone home and the two were alone, Naruto found those orders to be rather simple. With Mahina sleeping with her head resting on his chest, Naruto found himself able to sleep.

fallen_angelz: Haha! Mahina spoke, it's a miracle! But will she keep talking or will she choose silence once more? Okay, I promise that Itachi's gonna come in sometime in the next chapter or two then I'll bring in the Sand Siblings. Hehe... Suna won't know what hit it. Read and review!
