Author's Note: This chapter is hella long. A few of my friends who have been
reading this story have pestered me to death about getting some details about the
back story. Here they are. For your patience in reading, I will reward with some
lemony goodness in the next chapter. :)

Naruto showered as quickly as he could. The water felt nice and he tried to
ignore exactly how much blood he was washing off of himself. When he was finished he
stepped out of the shower and noticed for the first time that clean clothes had
replaced the dirty ones he had left in a pile on the floor. Driven by hunger and
curiosity he dressed swiftly, dried his golden hair with a towel, and headed out of
the bathroom. Mina smiled warmly at Naruto and he felt his heart skip a beat. No
one had ever been so nice to him this soon after meeting him. It usually took him
years to get a smile like that.

"Wow. That was fast. Are you that hungry?" she asked.

"I'm so hungry I thought about eating the soap."

"Well then, I'm sure you'll be happy to see this." Mina moved out of the way so
Naruto could see the two steaming bowls on the counter.

"Ramen!!!!" He grabbed a bowl and sat down at the table, ignoring the heat that
was radiating from the bowl and scalding himself on his first bite. He grimaced, but
didn't slow down. He looked up when Mina laughed.

"I've never seen anyone attack Ramen with so much enthusiasm. You weren't kidding
when you said it was your favorite."

"Thanks *slurp* for making *slurp* it! This *slurp* is delicious!"

"I'm glad to see that you like it. You can have my bowl too if you want. I may
just eat the rest of the fish from this afternoon."

"Well, if you don't mind." Naruto started on her bowl as soon as he was finished
with his, and within minutes both bowls were empty. As soon as Naruto was finished
he took both bowls to the sink and rinsed them.

"Someone raised you well."

Naruto lifted an eyebrow inquisitively.

"I suppose so. Now can we get to my questions?"

"Yeah, I have to warn you though. I don't really like talking about all of this,
and you may find that I'm less agreeable after we're done."

"Well, if you tell me and then you regret it, you can always erase it when I
sleep, right?"

"That's true." They both took seats on the couch and Mina pulled a blanket up
over her knees. "What would you like to know first?"

Naruto paused. He had so many questions.

"How can you be Itachi's sister if no one in the village has ever heard of you but
him?"

"That's a good question. It may be easier to show you than to explain it. If
you'll just look in my eyes, you'll find the answers you're looking for."

Mina's eyes started to glow violet and then red. Naruto knew this might not be a
good idea but he had faith in his new friend.

"Mina! Mina! Get in this house at once. Your cousin is here so we can get
started."

Naruto could see a very young version of Mina sitting along in a tree. She looked
to be about seven or eight years old and she was crying.

"I hate him." she mumbled under her breath as she climbed down the tree.

She walked slowly to the house and the scene switched to an inside view of a
comfortable looking living room. Mina was seated in the center of the room opening
up what looked like birthday gifts. She opened up a small pink box and pulled out a
snow globe with a large tree in the middle. Her face lit up.

"Oh mommy, it's beautiful!"

"I hoped you would like it Mina. Now open the rest."

Mina gingerly set the snow globe on the table beside her and began opening the
rest of her packages. No one noticed her ten year old cousin until it was too late.
He had walked up behind her and with a sweep of his arm he knocked the snow globe
casually to the floor. It shattered into thousands of pieces and Mina cried out.

"He did that on purpose! He did it because he hates me!"

She was crying pathetically and her cousin had a huge grin on his face.

"Witches shouldn't have nice things. Witches are evil!"

Naruto watched expectantly for someone to correct the boy, but to his surprise
none of the adults did anything. Everyone was working on cleaning up the snow globe
mess so no one noticed her eyes as they started to fade into a strange shade of
violet. She stopped crying, narrowed her eyes and spoke softly.

"I wish you would die."

And he did. He dropped lifelessly to the floor and the whole scene became
chaos.

The picture in Naruto's mind went black. At first he though Mina had shut him out
of her mind but when he looked closer he could see the outline of a door. He was
looking at the inside of a closet and Mina was sitting on the floor crying. The door
opened and her mother grabbed her roughly by the hair and pulled her too her feet.
Mina started begging immediately.

"I didn't mean to do it mommy. I didn't mean to do it. I just said it. I've
said it before and nothing happened. Please don't send me away! I didn't mean to do
it!"

Her mother looked at her with contempt.

"You are an evil little girl and we don't love you anymore. We don't want you
anymore. Do you understand that? You're dangerous. Your father would kill you if we
weren't afraid of what you might do. The witches are outside. You're going with
them."

The scene shifted again to outside and Mina could see all her possessions had been
set on fire on the front lawn. Her clothes, her stuffed animals, her pet rabbit and
his cage... they were all burning. She cried out and ran toward the flames but a firm
hand gripped her shoulder.

"You're coming with us, child." Little Mina looked up at the old woman whose hand
was restraining her. Something in Mina visibly hardened and she followed the witches
silently into the darkness.

The scene shifted once more to an older Mina. She looked about twelve and she was
pulling up weeds by their roots in a garden. Naruto recognized the house. It was
the house they were in now.

"Mina, I need you to go outside of the forest, to the place along the fence where
the Minkgrass grows. I'll need it before dark if we're going to get this potion
finished before tomorrow. Please don't dawdle."

Mina waved that she had heard and set off through the forest.

The scene shifted to the fence. Naruto could hear voices and Mina had ducked down behind a fence post.
Naruto saw two boys and a girl approach. They looked to be the same age as Mina and
he recognized them at once. They were all from leaf village although these versions
of them were much younger. It looked like they were on a mission. He gasped when he
realized one of the boy's was Itachi. Two of the youth turned and headed in the
opposite direction but Itachi continued toward Mina.

"Little girl, we're looking for a man who may have gone running through here.
Have you seen anyone?"

Mina stood up and for the first time she looked into the eyes of her brother.
They were practically identical. There was no mistaking that they were related.

"Who are you?" they both said at the same time. Mina giggled shyly.

"My name is Mina. I'm not a little girl though. I'm 12 years old."

"So am I. I'm Uchiha Itachi. You look like me."

"And you look like me. Could we be cousins?"

"All of my cousins live in my village. When I get home I'll ask my mother
though."

"You have a mother?"

"You don't?"

Mina looked ashamed. She hated telling anyone she lived with witches much less
that she was one.

"I live with my aunts in the forest."

"Only witches live in the forest."

"Then I must be a witch." Mina's eyes narrowed. She wasn't sure she liked this
boy. As she turned to walk away he grabbed her wrist.

"Hey. I wasn't done talking to you. When I go home I'm going to ask my mother
about you. I have a break in two weeks and I'll come back to tell you if you are my
cousin and you just don't know. Do you think you could meet me here again in
fourteen days."

"Yes, I can meet you here. I have to go though or I'll be in trouble."

"Ok, two weeks." They both turned and walked in opposite directions. Mina could
hardly contain her excitement. Was it possible she had a real family after all? She
had always known her first family was not her real family. Time after time she had
heard the story of how they had found her in the forest in the arms of an old witch.
With her dying breath the witch had told the family that if they didn't take her
child and keep her safe she would put a curse on their household. Was the witch
possibly related to this boy?

The scene shifted again and Mina was back at the fence waiting. It was almost
dusk and she looked worried. Naruto caught sight of movement out of the corner of
his eye and Itachi was on them like a flash.

"I was afraid you wouldn't come."

"I told you I would. Now I have a story to tell you. I asked my mother if I
might have any cousins who lived in the woods and she said it wasn't possible. I
told her about you. I told her how you looked like me and how you were my age. She
told me she was going to tell me a story and that I could never repeat it to another
soul. She forbid me from coming here but I thought you should hear it. Actually,
maybe I should just show you. Look me in the eye." Itachi's eyes started to glow
red and Mina could see a beautiful woman sitting on a sofa. The woman started to
speak.

"Once upon a time there was a man and a woman. They were expecting their first
child. They lived in a wonderful village and they belonged to a strong clan. When
the time came for her to have her baby she was very excited. She was in labor all
day and that night she was still in labor. It was a strange night and the moon was
full and blood red. That is a horrible omen. A little boy was born, but then to the
surprise of the woman and the nurse, a baby girl was born. This was a very bad
thing. There has been a long history of this in their family and if twins were born
under a full moon, one of them is evil and one is good. The evil baby had to be
killed immediately. Since the woman and the nurse were the only people in the room
though, no one else knew about the second baby. The woman could not face the thought
of one of her babies being killed so she begged the nurse to smuggle the girl out of
the house. Surely if the girl didn't know about the family she couldn't harm them.
The nurse did as she was asked but the next day the nurse's lifeless body was found
in the woods. The woman asked around if they had found anything else, but they had
not. The woman was relieved. Someone must have found the baby and now everything
would be all right." Itachi stopped speaking and stared at Mina in the glowing
moonlight.

"Mother would say no more, but I'm sure I am the boy and you are the girl. I can
feel it."

"I can feel it too." Mina's eyes started leaking tears. "They don't want me, do
they? They were right. I'm evil. I killed someone." She expected Itachi to run
away but he didn't.

The scene shifted to the forest. Both Itachi and Mina were sitting in a tree.
They looked slightly older. Itachi seemed quieter... more mysterious.

"Tell me more about them Itachi! Tell me more about Sasuke! Did he really think
no one would notice a missing cookie stuffed in his mouth?" Mina was giggling.
Naruto was confused. Mina knew about Sasuke? What the hell was going on. He didn't
say anything though. This vision was obviously far from over. Itachi continued
telling the story and then told several more stories about his family.

"Now tell me Mina. Do you have any special powers? Sometimes when we talk your
eyes turn purple. That's sort of like my Sharingan but I've never seen you do
anything with it."

"I keep it secret." Mina whispered softly. "If I put my hands on your face... I
can hear your thoughts."

"You can not."

"Can too. Let me touch your face and think of a number one through a
thousand."

Itachi relented and Mina placed her hands on his face. Her eyes changed color
slightly.

"You're thinking of five hundred... and now you're thinking of seven hundred...
and now you're thinking that you can't believe I can do this."

Itachi looked taken aback. Mina dropped her hands.

"I can't believe you can do that. I never knew anyone could do that."

"I can. It's because of the witch in me. My auntie's explained it before they
moved back to witch village. An old witch put herself inside me and sometimes I can
use her powers. I'm not supposed to let anyone know though. You won't tell will
you?"

"I won't tell. I can't even tell anyone you exist. I'll be back in a week or so
though. I have to leave now."

"Stay with me Itachi. I hate living in this forest alone."

"I can't Mina. I have goals and I have to achieve them. I shouldn't come as
often as I do."

"I know. I'm sorry. Come back soon."

"I will." and with that he was gone.

The scene shifted again. It was dark now and Mina was sitting alone in her living
room. There was a knock at the door and both the younger version of Mina and Naruto
cried out when they saw Itachi standing in the doorway covered in blood.
"They're all dead." He said and then dropped to his knees.

Mina was practically in hysterics. She'd never seen so much blood.

"Our family. They're all dead. A rogue ninja came and killed them all. They
killed our entire family. Mother, Father, Sasuke, our aunts, our uncles, our
cousins. Everyone is dead."

"How could that happen? How did you escape?" Mina tried to lift Itachi up and
hug him but he shot back from her.
"No! Don't touch me! Don't read me!" He shouted.

"I won't! I was just going to give you a hug. I wasn't going to read you, I
promise. Why would I?" Mina was crying again. "The ninja didn't follow you did he?
Are you safe now?"

"I'm safe now. No one can know that I'm here though. I'm sure he'll come to kill
me." Mina noticed that Itachi's voice was very calm. She figured he must be in
shock.

"You can clean up in the bathroom. You can stay with me forever if you want.
We'll be safe together."

"Yes, we'll be safe. I need you to promise me something Mina. Promise you won't
read me. It was just too awful. I don't want you to see it."

"I promise you. I won't read you. I'll even teach you how to block thoughts from me
if you want. I'll teach you everything I know. Maybe you can teach me what you
know. I'm your sister, I should be able to use Sharingan too, shouldn't I? When
we're both stronger, we'll find who did this and we'll kill him."

Itachi looked at his sister and then walked into the bathroom, closing the door
behind him.

The scene shifted to day and they were outside. Mina and Itachi were sparring.
Naruto was impressed. Mina looked very powerful.

"I can't believe how much I've picked in just a year. I never would have thought
I could do this."

"You're my twin." Itachi didn't talk must anymore. Mina was surprised he had
said anything at all. She was even more surprised when he spoke again. "Let's stop.
We need to talk."

They both sat down on the grass.

"I'm not sure you're as focused as I am on getting revenge and then restoring our
clan to its former glory."

"Of course I am. I've been killing myself training night and day. Revenge is
what I'm living for right now, and once we've had our revenge we'll back to your
village and start families. We talk about that every day. Why ask me now?"

"You didn't even know them! Why is this so important to you?" Itachi looked
angry.

Mina was thoroughly confused.

"Because that bastard took my only chance at a family. If we had had more time
maybe we could have convinced them to let me come home. Maybe we could have snuck me
in as a cousin. I don't know. It could have been something. Anything. At least I
had a chance."

"I'm glad you feel that way. I've been reading through some of the books in the
house and I've found something I want to try. Something to keep us focused."

"What is it?"

"It's a binding curse. If we perform it, we'll be bound together until our
mission is complete. All we have to do is say the exact same thing at the exact same
time and then perform a few hand seals. Then, after we've gotten our revenge, we do
the same thing and the curse will be reversed."

"What if one of us dies?"

"We'll just have to make sure we don't. It takes two to reverse and they have to
be blood relatives. I'll be the only person who can release you and you'll be the
only person who can release me. Don't you understand? This will keep us from
getting distracted."

"Well, if you think we should..." Mina bit her bottom lip. This was strange,
even for Itachi. His temper had been getting a lot worse lately though and she didn't
want to be on the receiving end of his anger.

"I think we should."

"What does the curse do?"

"It will prevent us from being able to have children. You won't be able to get
pregnant and I won't be able to get anyone pregnant."

"What? Why that?"

"Because it's the second part of our goal. We achieve the first, and then we
achieve the second. I don't want you meeting some man, falling in love with him and
then me have to chase after this by myself. Just do it. Look at this scroll and do
exactly as it says."

Mina didn't understand but if it would make her brother happy she would do it.

The scene shifted to inside the house again. It was very late and Naruto noticed
Mina had a black eye. Itachi was asleep in the bed and Mina walked toward him
slowly. For a moment he could hear her inner dialogue. 'I have to try this. I
don't believe him anymore. It just doesn't make sense. I've taught him a lot but I
think I can probably still read him if he's dreaming.'
Mina sat silently on the side of the bed and softly placed her hand on Itachi's
forehead. Her eyes turned violet and then a dark shade of red. They widened and she
started gagging and then began shrieking. She hadn't seen much, but she had seen him
kill their mother and father. It was enough. She knew it was him now. Itachi sat
up and shoved her off of the bed and onto the floor.
"So now you know. I told you not read me. Now I'm going to have to kill
you."
Mina stood up and the air around her became staticy. Itachi had never seen her
possess this kind of power.
"You can not kill me, and I can not kill you. When you insisted we be bound you
were fooling with things beyond your comprehension. Now suffer the consequences."
Her voice had taken on that same creepy tone from when she and Naruto had first
arrived in this house. It wasn't Mina. It was the witch.
What happened next Naruto couldn't comprehend completely. Mina and Itachi began
to fight but neither one could get an edge over the other. The house was slowly
being destroyed as they continued to fight. It was clear they had taught each other
well and they were an even match. The fighting continued for so long that Naruto's
head was aching from all the turning he had to do to keep them in his line of
sight.

"Give up, Itachi. You can't kill me. You'll never be able to kill me. You've
bound yourself to me. I may be able to kill you though. You bound me but you
couldn't bind the witch."
Itachi considered this for a moment.
"If you kill me you'll never be able to revive our clan. You'll never have a
family. You'll be alone forever. What man will marry you if you can't bear his
children?" he sneered.
"I don't even want a family anymore!" Mina raged.
"That's a lie Mina, and you know it. You need me. I will not release you from
this curse and if you succeed in killing me you will be bound forever." Itachi
turned and walked out the door and Mina collapsed on the couch, sobbing.

Naruto snapped out of his trance and the real Mina was sobbing on the couch. She
straightened herself up a little and Naruto watched as she steadied herself.
"I was so stupid to trust him. He never intended to use that curse to keep me
motivated. He just wanted it as leverage." she muttered.
"You weren't stupid. He's your brother."
"He tried to kill me several more times, but once he realized it wasn't likely to
happen he stopped trying. Mostly now we just trade insults if we see each other. He
contacted me a few days ago and told me if I would help him release the Kyubbi inside
of you, he would release the curse and promise that he would leave me alone. He must
be truly desperate to get your power if he's willing to give up his hold on me."
"I got the feeling from him he thinks having my power will help him kill you. You
know, fight demon with demon." Naruto smiled at Mina gently as she nodded her head.
Now that he had seen all that had happened he knew what he needed to do. He took a
deep breath.
"Itachi lied to you, before. I don't even know how to tell you this. He didn't
kill Sasuke. Sasuke is alive. He's my... best friend. He's at the castle right
now. Itachi told me if you knew about him you'd kill him. I couldn't let that
happen so I accepted the mind blocking techniques."
Mina looked puzzled.
"Sasuke? My little brother Sasuke? He's alive?" Her voice grew louder and more
excited. "I have another brother????" Her whole body was trembling and she looked
happy until a dark cloud passed over her face.
"I'm going to kill him." She growled.
Naruto was stunned. Had Itachi been right? Shit, this wasn't supposed to
happen.
"Not Sasuke, Itachi. I'm going to kill that bastard if it's the last thing I do.
How could he keep this from me?" Her eyes were glowing from violet to red and Naruto
found himself getting nervous. Static started to crackle in the air around her.
Stifling his fears he reached over and put his hand on hers.
"Mina? You need to calm down. You've tried to kill him before, right? You've
never been able to. Getting yourself killed isn't going to do any good and if you
just race in, that might be what happens. I'll help you. First I think we should
free Sasuke though. We need to get him out of there. I know he'll help you. He has
been training to kill Itachi ever since the whole massacre happened."
Mina's eyes slowly faded back to their usual black and the atmosphere in the room
returned to normal.
"Thanks. You brought me back. Sometimes, if the witch takes over, it can be days
before I get control again." When Naruto looked up he was surprised to see her
expression. It was a look he'd always longed to receive. It held the tenderness of
love shared between family. "Thanks Naruto. I feel like I went from having no family to having two little brothers in one day."
Naruto blushed. He felt his insides get warm. Was this even possible? How had everything turned out like this? Maybe Neji was right. You can't fight fate. Neji, he had forgotten all about him. He had
to be at the castle as well. He shook all his confusing thoughts about family out of his head.
"We need a plan."

moonprincess90: I'm so glad you keep coming back. I feel sorry for Sasuke too. This

story is going to be hard on him for awhile, but since I like him so much, nothing too bad

will ever happen to him! Do you have any story suggestions? Although I'll stay true to

the story, I'm always happy to throw something in to make a frequent reviewer happy. I

liked for my stories to be a little interactive!
