----------The next night----------
Naruto was beating another tree into submission, the sweat on his bare torso gleaming in the moonlight. He'd been so relieved when his mission for the day was over and he could leave. Kakashi had not left him alone at all, asking him a million questions and never seeming satisfied with the answers he got, but Naruto was not about to tell him what was going on between him and Sasuke. Especially not about the night-visits. He didn't want to give the perverted Jounin ANY ideas! The night-visits were the reason Naruto was in the woods tonight instead of at home. He was farther into the forest than he usually went for practicing, and he wasn't going home until he was sure Sasuke wasn't going to show himself. He still didn't know what to think about that kiss last night.
It wasn’t hard to track Naruto into the woods. Heightened senses spoke to him of the other youth's sweat through the gentle night breeze, of the other youth's soft grunts and quiet shouts at certain strikes through the more still night air. He could feel his pupils dilate, taking over his irises almost completely, as he leaned against a tree and simply enjoyed the "scenery" for a moment. Naruto was certainly attractive enough, and it had always somewhat surprised Sasuke that no one looked beyond the Sealed-boy's labels to see the wonderful person within. Sasuke's nose wrinkled. He was starting to sound like a fluff-headed girl. Pushing away from the tree he'd used as a rest he moved forward until he was standing right behind Naruto and then murmured a soft, almost husky greeting.
“Good evening...”
The blonde reappeared hanging from a tree branch, having flown there with a very cat-like ‘I've just had my tail stepped on’ yelp. “Do you MIND?!” he growled when he'd caught his breath, still hanging there.
“Mind what?” Sasuke asked seriously as he looked up at the hanging Chuunin above him. Despite his serious tone his eyes were mirthful.
“You know what!!” Naruto shot back. “Damn bastard...”
Fine. If Sasuke wanted to bother him then he wasn't going to make his job easy. Looking more like a monkey than a person Naruto climbed farther up into the tree.
For a moment Sasuke eyed the tree, weighing the likelihood of himself being injured by climbing up to meet Naruto. Deciding that it was well worth the small risk, Sasuke walked to the trunk and up it. “Race you to the top, dobe...” he murmured as he drew even with Naruto his familiar smirk challenging.
That well-known challenge was enough to make Naruto forget for a second that they weren't twelve anymore. “Then eat my dust, jackass.” He concentrated his chakra in his hands and feet and climbed as if his life depended on it.
Unfortunately, Sasuke lacked normal human limitations any more. He was about to employ them when he smirked and simply kicked Naruto's ass the old fashioned way. He reached the top moments before Naruto, then folded his arms in an echo from the past with the bright, large moon hanging beyond him. “Looks like I win, dobe... as usual.”
Glaring bloody murder Naruto simply turned around and dropped back down to the ground. He hated losing to Sasuke. Always had, always would.
Sasuke landed beside him in a crouch and looked up. “Spar...?”
“I'd prefer to not end up with a crushed hand, thank you very much,” Naruto said shortly, remembering that Sasuke wasn't human anymore, and that anyone who could injure Tsunade like that was not a person he wanted to go up against, even casually. He didn't know how likely - or unlikely - it was that Sasuke would forget it was just a spar and wound him somehow. Naruto may have had Kyuubi to heal him, but there were limits to even Kyuubi's healing ability.
Sasuke straightened to his full height standing beside Naruto. He smirked that same old infuriating smirk and teased lightly, “What's the matter... bibiri-kun?” and then after a moment's pause to let that familiar taunt sink in, Sasuke reached out and cupped Naruto's soft, whicker-marked cheek. “I'd never seriously hurt you...” he purred and let his thumb trace the uppermost whisker. His eyes were molten with emotion, swirling black. As he spoke the last words he realized he'd moved closer still to the blond, invading Naruto’s personal space, but he couldn't seem to draw back.
“Liar,” Naruto snapped, slapping Sasuke's hand away and taking a few steps back. “In case you forgot, it was you who left, not me.” He turned away before - he hoped - Sasuke saw the old festering wound in his eyes.
Strong arms settled around his shoulders and pulled him close. A warm breath ghosted past one sensitive ear and then Sasuke's voice spoke softly. “I had to leave, Naruto. I had to go before the urge to kill my brother overcame my ability to resist his ‘advice’.” The very tip of Sasuke's nose brushed against the edge of Naruto's ear.
Naruto understood that, but it had been the way Sasuke had left that had hurt him so deeply. Watching Sasuke throw his hitai-ate to the ground and declaring that they weren't teammates anymore had been like watching his world fall apart. Naruto's friendship, their bond of rivalry and camaraderie, it had just been thrown away as if it was worth nothing. And Naruto had worked so hard to prove to the village that he had worth... To have someone so close to him throw him away... “Let go of me if you want to keep your arms,” he growled furiously.
“No,” Sasuke murmured tightening his hold in a manner that didn't allow Naruto room to use his arms or move very much. Considering Sasuke's vampire strength, Naruto wasn't getting away from him. “Not until you explain to me what exactly your problem is...” However, despite his words, Sasuke's tone and volume remained the same, his warm breath still caressing Naruto's ear.
“I don't have to explain anything to you,” Naruto shot back angrily, his whole body stiff as a board. He didn't bother to squirm, knowing it wouldn't get him anywhere - he'd learned that last night. But he did turn his head so that Sasuke's breath didn't fall on his ear.
There was silence, but only for a few moments. Then Sasuke inquired softly, “And if I asked nicely?” His voice was neutral, as if he were talking to a client during their Genin days, which technically Sasuke was still a Genin seeing as he had left before moving up to Chuunin.
Naruto snorted. “Then you're more of an idiot than I thought you were. Let. Go.”
Stubborn as ever, Sasuke didn't let go. Instead he settled for trying again. He'd already set all of his own problematic feelings aside finally - at least for the time being - but had he done so too late? He was beginning to fear just that. Naruto had always proven difficult in any matter that involved Sasuke, but ... had he always been this stubborn and unyielding? ::I'm not going to just come right out and beg for him to throw me some attention... I guess...:: “I guess I'll just have to win your trust back again won't I?”
Naruto wanted to trust Sasuke... He wanted to so much... But he was determined not to give Sasuke power over him again. “Let me go,” he growled again, not answering Sasuke's question because he didn't know how to.
A quiet sigh ghosted past Sasuke's smooth lips. This close to Naruto, it was a little difficult to keep his mind away from two of his most primal urges - the primary of the two being a desire of the flesh and the second, a small enticement compared to the first, a lust of the blood the flesh cradled within it. He could hear every ebb and flow of the other boy's blood as it rushed out of his heart through the arteries and back to the heart in veins. Sasuke's sensitive nose picked up Naruto's sweet scent more intensely than Sasuke was beginning to think he could handle, but it was his own pale, bare arms laid against warm, sun-tanned skin that was really pressing the boundaries of his control. Naruto, being bare-chested as he was, was proving a bit harder to deal with than had been originally anticipated.
A frustrated sigh echoed Sasuke's. Naruto didn't think Sasuke was listening anymore... and it was very tempting to just relax back into the other boy's embrace... but if he did that it would be a sign of surrender and Naruto was far from ready to do such a thing. Determined to bring Sasuke back from la-la land Naruto leaned his head forward and slammed it back into Sasuke's face as hard as he could. Might as well also make this a lesson of what happened when his personal space was invaded too much.
The blunt strike to his cheekbone and the side of his nose brought Sasuke back with a small grunt of surprise. His hold, unfortunately, remained unbroken. “Baka!” he snapped and shook his head a little to clear his shock out. “What was that for, dobe!?”
“For not letting go when I told you to,” Naruto growled back, now beginning to squirm as impatience got the better of him.
Small though it might have been, a touch of his old self reared up urging Sasuke to hold Naruto anyway just because he could. Meanwhile the intensely sensual side that seemed permanently affixed to every one of his senses now was giving him an idea that he just couldn't pass up. In a short series of several flowing movements, Naruto found himself facing Sasuke. It was also harder to struggle. Sasuke could practically see the question mark above the fox-boy's yellow spikes, 'How did that tree get behind me?' “Naruto...” There was definitely a different note in that deep, velvety voice, something that sounded remarkablysultry.
::What the hell just happened?!:: Naruto was completely bewildered for a moment... until he realized what Sasuke had just done. “You cheated, you damn bastard...” he growled, even more frustrated now than before. He suppressed the urge to squirm at the tone of Sasuke's voice.
It was like Sasuke didn't even realize he was losing himself to his senses. His nose bumped Naruto's chin slightly and his midnight black eyes were hooded. It was obvious his mind wasn't on what he was saying when the words, “All is fair... in love and war...” whispered against the skin of Naruto's throat, silky lips making the words twice the caress. It was a truthful but somewhat cliché or cheesy line that either Kakashi-sensei or Sakura had said at some point. Probably Sakura and probably over something Ino had declared unfair while they were both still so engrossed in having Sasuke in what seemed so long ago.
“STOP that!!” Naruto yelled, horrified at the squeak in his own voice as he tried to wriggle free. He was even more horrified to find that while his mind wanted Sasuke far away his body was more than happy to have him so close. It took a long moment for the words Sasuke had said to sink in - the lips on his throat being more of a problem at the moment - but when they did Naruto's face went beet red. Since when did love play into this?! Wasn't Sasuke doing this out of some sick desire to torture him?!
Sasuke's mouth openly brushed over Naruto's erratically fluttering pulse just above the blond's collarbone. Sasuke's teeth, out of care and respect, never even touched the skin. Another smaller kissed stroked the skin above the spot where the first one hand landed and then a third was placed a little higher up than, but when he reached Naruto's jaw his tongue flicked out lightly to caress its short way to Naruto's ear.
A shuddery gasp forced its way passed Naruto's tightly-shut lips. Sasuke's kisses were sending electricity through his nerves and they certainly didn't help in trying to control his body's betrayal. Desperate for an end to this seeming madness Naruto put his hands on Sasuke's shoulders in an attempt to push him away. “Stop... stop it...” he begged. ::I hate him! I hate him!! I... oh, that feels good... I HATE HIM!!!:: Ready to try anything he brought up his knee quickly, aiming for Sasuke's groin. But he hadn't even hit him yet when Sasuke lurched back, doubled over.
One of Sasuke’s hands was covering his mouth while the other touched his stomach, the first to hide his fangs and the second as a habit from his human days. ::What - why ... Shit!!:: The first "small" surge of Blood Lust had forced Sasuke's fangs to erupt from his upper jaw like a big cat's claws at the kill. Sasuke cursed his own stupidity. He'd been in Konohagakure for close to a week, which meant he hadn't had anything really "appeasing" to "eat" since before then. Animal blood was too dissimilar to human blood for it to do more than tide him over. That only worked for a little bit however, and if he didn't get some real human blood in him soon, his brain would shut down, rendering him unable to control himself until it had a sufficient supply of new blood.
Naruto watched in frightened amazement as Sasuke's features began to take on a very hungry edge to them... almost like a starved predator. It took Kyuubi's roaring to snap him out of his daze and he was soon gone in a puff of smoke, knowing better than to run and turn himself into prey. He still didn't know how Sasuke lived while being dead at the same time and he had no desire to find out the hard way.
A part of him ached at Naruto's immediate retreat, but the wiser part of him thanked Naruto for his intelligence. The Chuunin wasn't always the brightest crayon in the box, but in this instance Sasuke was glad Naruto followed his instincts and Kyuubi's. Sasuke waited for the ripple of warning to pass through his body before straightening. In a blur, he made it to Sakura's house, but something gave him pause at the front door. Sakura was his friend and a very dear one at that. He had no fear of rejection from her believing she would give him her very life if she felt it would be in his service. However, the intimacy of sharing blood whether he be simply taking or both taking and returning... Well, with a stranger, someone he hardly knew but was familiar with, it was nothing, but to do so with someone he knew closely... It was too intimate. That was a closeness he did not want between himself and the pink-haired girl. He turned on his heel and headed right to the Yamanaka residence, knocking politely on the door. He had few otehr alternatives and he'd be using them all tonight.
