It was August, and the dull evening light streamed through the open bathroom window on the second floor of the Uchiha manor. The only occupant of the household was currently sitting in the deep claw foot tub, lost in thought as steam rose from the water that surrounded him.
Sasuke’s mind was reeling. There was just too much to process after talking that afternoon with Kisame, his brother’s lawyer. Itachi was innocent and Danzo had framed him for the murder of their parents. But Danzo had the entire police force in his pocket. They feared him. His money, his power, his connections. Connections he had used to slaughter the Uchihas and take their company. At least it would be his until Sasuke came of age at 21.
The corrupted officers had hidden and destroyed any evidence of Itachi’s innocence.
Now it was up to Sasuke to prove it and save his brother from execution. Prove it? How? Did he even really believe it? It all seemed ludicrous. Where would he even start? There was no way he could do this on his own. But all he had was...
Naruto... the boys face swam into his mind as it often did when he was lonely, or stressed. The only bright point that currently existed in his life. Over the past year Sasuke had begun to understand and accept that his feelings ran deeper than they should for another male, beyond friendship. Naruto was the sun, while he was the moon. He had given up his darkness for Naruto’s light, and Naruto had given up his light for Sasuke’s darkness. They were soul mates, and also something that was altogether undefinable. And yet... they could never truly be together. Sasuke would keep his feelings hidden in his heart, locked away forever. It wasn’t worth the risk of losing his best friend. His one and only friend. He exhaled slowly and slid down more into the warm water so that everything from his nose downwards was submerged.

“Sasuke!” Sasuke could hear Naruto calling him inside his head. Naruto has always been chasing after him before, but now it was Sasuke who was trying to keep up with everything . “Sasuke!” He like the way his name sounded in Naruto’s voice. It always sent shivers down his spine, and he feared the day the idiot would notice. “Sasuke! Where the fuck are you?!” What..? Sasuke sat up, realizing that the voice wasn’t in his head, but Naruto was actually calling him, searching the house trying to find him. “I’m in the bathtub! Go away!” He shouted back. But of course Naruto didn’t listen, and a few seconds later he heard running footsteps and the door to the bathroom flew open. “Sasuke!” His voice echoed through the small bathroom jarring Sasuke and causing him to cringe as he pulled up his knees in an attempt to cover himself. “What is wrong with you!? I’m naked, get the hell out!” He yelled angrily and pointed at the door.
“Never mind that,” and he crossed the room in a few long strides and stretched out his hand to give Sasuke the news paper he was holding.
“Can’t this wait?” What was so important that Naruto felt the need to intrude on his privacy like this.
“No! Well... maybe, but I can’t!” Sasuke took the magazine from him. Naruto left only to return a moment later with a stool that he placed next to the bathtub. Sitting down they were now at eye level. Sasuke stared at him incredulously, mouth slightly open. He must be joking.
“Read.” Naruto flicked the back of the paper for emphasis.
Sasuke looked at what Naruto had handed him and his mouth fell open in horror.
“New documents surface at Konoha police department claiming Danzo to be the sole person inheriting the Uchiha legacy and forgoing the youngest member of the family.”
No. It wasn’t possible. Those documents had to be fake. He’d seen them. Itachi was supposed to inherit the company at 21. And if something had happened to him, it was to go to Sasuke. Danzo... anger surged though him. Looking back at Naruto he spoke the words that would start them down a very dark path for the next two years.
“I need your help.”
Naruto nodded, “anything.”
