It's been a long time since my last update. I haven't abandoned this story. This chapter was written for more than a year, and I really wanted to write a KibaIno lemon for this chapter, but I just couldn't conjure up one. So my apologies. However I'm determined to complete this story, so enjoy. This is the last chapter, minus the epilogue.
WARNING: A little bit of NaruHina is discussed for those of you who aren't fans of the couple.

Chapter Seven: Tonight & Tomorrow
It was the end of October and Kiba changed the plans for his party. Instead of everyone meeting at his place, he rented a few rooms at a hot springs inn and told everyone to meet him there. Enjoying a late evening underneath the stars, the group of longtime friends relaxed their limbs inside the warm water of the mixed bathing pool. (Clockwise seating arrangement: Kiba, Ino, Choji, Shikamaru, Sakura, Hinata, Tenten, Naruto)
Hinata clutched tightly at the thick towel at her ample bosom. The brunette stumbled over her words as she leaned to her left, burying her face into Tenten's shoulder and spoke. "D-Do we have tto sit here in the m-mixed bathing area…?"
Staring incredulously at her meek friend from across the smoky waters, Ino, who blatantly displayed her nude body, raised a platinum brow and asked sarcastically, "What are you, five? Hinata we're grown adults. There's no reason to be bashful here. I'm sure you've seen a naked man before." The model closed the distance to her right and planted gentle butterfly kisses along Kiba's neck. The fledgling couple unapologetically made out in front of their friends, uncaring about their friends' comfort.
Scowling at her best friend, Sakura, who also modestly wore a towel around her body, reprimanded Ino. "Well maybe Hinata's not as open as you, Ino-pig! There's nothing wrong with being demure."
Sitting in between Sakura and Tenten, Hinata met Sakura's jade gaze with her own lavender stare. The brunette smiled warmly at Sakura, silently thanking the strawberry-blonde for her support.
Separating her lips from Kiba's, Ino scoffed at the childhood slur. She grinned malevolently and fired back at Sakura with her own insult. "Well Billboard-brow, since you put it that way, I can fully understand why Hinata's exhibiting decorum. She has a nice rack and an awesome body, so I understand she doesn't want everyone to see it."
Hinata's face burned with mortification and she covered her eyes in embarrassment. "Ino! Don't say such things!"
Ignoring Hinata's outcry, the platinum-haired beauty continued her verbal assault on Sakura. "But why are you covered up, Sakura? You don't have any breasts. You have nothing anyone wants to see."
"Ugh! You bitch! That's it! Ya gonna get it!" Hastily standing in the water, Sakura shook her fist at Ino and promised bodily harm on the model. Unfortunately for the short-tempered medical student, the quickness of her motions caused her towel to unravel, fall from her agile frame and land in the water, leaving her fully exposed to everyone.
Cackling unashamedly at Sakura, Ino marveled at her best friend's petite, flawless body. "Wow Sakura, you may not be top-heavy, but I envy your flat stomach! And I would kill for your thigh-gap!"
"And her ass doesn't look too bad from this angle, either," Shikamaru coolly remarked while he adjusted the small towel wrapped around his waist.
Realization dawned on the medical student and she cupped her crotch with the palms of her hands and sank back in the murky water with a dense splash. Red-faced and humiliated, she reached for her towel floating towards Kiba. Sakura's movements weren't fast enough because the dog owner snatched it first.
Laughing alongside Ino, Kiba, shamelessly naked, took the soaked towel and tossed it out of the pool. "Nuh-uh Sakura. Ya were too slow."
Everyone, aside from Hinata laughed at Sakura's expense, who mentally vowed to murder the odd couple across from her before the night was over. Sinking into the pool until only her face was left exposed, Sakura's pink brows wrinkled as she wisely chose to remain silent.
"C'mon guys," Tenten, sans towel, nonchalantly voiced after catching her breath from bursts of laughter. "I'm sure Hinata's still shy around Naruto, especially since they used to fuck each other's brains out in high school."
"TENTEN!" Hinata's lavender eyes expanded unnaturally before shutting completely to avoid the looks of amusement from her friends. "That was supposed to be a secret! You swore you wouldn't tell anyone!"
"Who's secret?" The casual voice came from Choji who was finishing off his third bag of barbecue-flavored potato chips. He set the now-empty bag aside and retightened his towel around his waist. "Everyone knows about it."
Even more mortified by Choji's confession, Hinata croaked, "Really?"
Disagreeing with his best friend who was sitting next to him, Shikamaru corrected Choji. "I believe the only people who aren't aware of Hinata's and Naruto's high school fling are Lee, Neji and Shino."
"Hmm… Shino's pretty observant," Kiba stated simply. "He may appear stoic behind those sunglasses, but he's sharp an' always alert. I wouldn't be surprised if he knew Naruto an' Hinata used to knock boots."
The onyx-haired woman wanted to faint while her friends casually discussed her former sex life with her ex-boyfriend. Taking a cue from Sakura, Hinata also lowered her head until only her head remained exposed in the warm water.
"Can it, Pineapple-head," Naruto growled at the lazy man. Naruto sat to Tenten's left comfortable in his nudity. "It wasn't a fling. We dated all throughout junior year and half of senior year."
Not aware of this new bit of information about Naruto and Hinata, Ino questioned her friends. "So, why'd you break up? What happened?"
Rolling his eyes at the memory, Naruto snorted in loathing and spat out, "Her father."
"Oh yeah! I remember now!" Sakura straightened herself fully, no longer caring about her nudity. She quickly volunteered to deliver the gossip about her friends' breakup to the group.
"Sakura!" Hinata cried out in protest, but the strawberry-blonde ignored her.
"Once Hiashi found out about Hinata dating Konoha High School's neighborhood bad-boy, he immediately ended the relationship by withdrawing Hinata from the school and transferring her to another private institution. Hiashi didn't want Naruto's rebel reputation to ruin the image of his company and family."
Tenten's brown eyes lit as the memories came back to her at full force. "That's right. And that's why Hinata didn't graduate with the rest of you guys."
Rubbing his chin in deep thought, Shikamaru voiced his opinion. "Now that you mentioned Hiashi, perhaps Neji did know of their relationship. Maybe he simply decided to remain mum about it."
Lifting a quizzical brow at Naruto and Hinata, Ino wondered, "If that's the case, why didn't you guys try to work things out since then?"
Not caring for the direction of their conversation, Naruto stated brusquely, "Enough! That's no one's business! What happened between me and Hinata is our business alone!"
"And we're simply trying to make it happen again," replied Tenten smoothly. Standing up, she rudely pushed Naruto next to Hinata and occupied his previous spot in the pool. "So make it happen."
"Hey, idiot!" Kiba shouted towards Naruto, whose azure glare bored holes into Kiba's onyx eyes. "Ino an' I have two boxes of condoms for later tonight. Feel free to take a box for you an' Hinata to use."
Hinata's face darkened burgundy at her male best friend's suggestion, but even more because secretly she wanted to rekindle the flames of her past relationship with Naruto. It was simply difficult, and humiliating, for her to admit it.
The hilarity continued to ensue throughout the night between the group of friends with Kiba and Ino continuously displaying their newfound affections for one another. Naruto and Hinata engaged in light conversation and everyone knew by the end of the night they'll be together again. However amidst the enjoyment of the evening, Hinata decided to address the elephant in the room no one wanted to acknowledge.
"Ino? You're leaving next week. How long will you be gone? And how soon do you think you'll return?"
Separating her lips from Kiba's for the umpteenth time that evening, Ino stared into Hinata's lavender eyes before looking down into the murky waters of the hot springs. "I… I'm not sure," she whispered uncertainly. Ino had a plan to finally settle the burden she's carried since that awful night in Los Angeles; however the model was unsure how to implement it. And she knew once her manager Ebisu discovered what she was formulating, he'll object, trying to force Ino to reconsider her decision. Deep inside Ino knew what she had to do; she had to make amends for her past sins—no matter the cost.
Plastering on a false, toothy smile, Ino told everyone with exuberance, "Let's not worry about that right now. Let's just enjoy ourselves. When I leave, you guys are going to see me off at the airport, right?"
"Of course!"
"Do you even have to ask?"
"We'll be there."
"It'll be troublesome, but I'll make it."
"Yes."
"You're our friend, Ino. Why wouldn't we be there?"
Hearing the promising statements from Sakura, Tenten, Choji, Shikamaru, Hinata and Naruto gave the platinum-haired beauty a sliver of peace. Ino swallowed the bit of dejection when she noticed Kiba remained silent. She didn't want to focus on his lack of response to her question because she understood why he said nothing. Kiba didn't want her to leave, but she couldn't stay. Ino merely hoped one day Kiba would understand.
"No more depressing talk!" Ino exclaimed to her friends. "Now who's up for a game of Truth or Dare?"
Ino stepped out of her black luxury vehicle as her driver Konan shut the backdoor. She adjusted the deep violet pea coat around her neck to ward off the November chill. Her aquamarine eyes adjusted to the foggy, gray afternoon while she searched around the entrance of the airport for her friends. The dreaded day has finally come—Ino would be in the States in a matter of hours.
Inside the model was conflicted—a war brewed with her heart's innermost desires against her conscience. Deep down Ino wanted to remain in Japan with her friends and Kiba, as unusual as their relationship was. Ino was happy in Konoha; she didn't have to worry about competitive, drug-addicted models with depraved ambitions. She didn't have to worry about demanding CEOs of popular design houses telling her she was stunning, but wasn't good enough. She didn't have to worry about photographers, videographers or expedient, prodigal managers telling her to watch what she ate because her body would expand and she'll ruin her career. Everyone in Konoha accepted Ino for herself… and that's all Ino wanted.
Nevertheless, matters abroad needed resolving otherwise Ino would never fully have peace. It was time to repent for her sins and start anew. This trip back to the States is a necessary one. Ino knew if she didn't get on that plane now, her courage would diminish and she'd never want the face her crimes. No; settling in Konoha would simply have to wait.
The blonde nodded at Konan before the driver stepped into the vehicle and drove away. Ino lifted her chin, pulled at her carry-on bag and entered the automatic doors of the airport.
Immediately Ino was greeted with effervescent smiles of her friends as they surrounded her for a group hug. Feeling the beginnings of tears misting her eyes, the model blinked them away, dropped her bag to hug everyone back.
"We're gonna miss you Ino." Hinata was the first to speak. The brunette put on a brave face even though she was fighting against the intense sadness she felt regarding Ino's departure. She released her arms from around Ino's shoulders to lock them around Naruto's waist.
Smiling sweetly at her soft-spoken friend, Ino admitted, "I'm going to miss you too, Hinata. And I'm truly elated you and Naruto found happiness together."
Naruto's lips stretched into his famous cheeky grin at Ino's compliment and Hinata blushed in return.
Shikamaru was next to speak to their friend. "Ino, now that you're leaving, it'll be a lot quieter."
Everyone chucked at Shikamaru's joke while Ino rolled her eyes and smirked in return. Choji approached her next and offered her a hug, which Ino accepted merrily. "I have to agree with Shikamaru, Ino." Choji said. "It was way more peaceful before you came." The model playfully punched Choji in his arm.
Releasing her embrace from Choji, Ino faced Sakura who cleared her throat to speak. "Ino-pig, no matter how far away you'll be or how long you'll be gone, nothing can separate our bond. You're my very best friend and I love you."
The tears Ino worked so hard to hold back finally spilled from her bright eyes. She circled her arms around the strawberry-blonde and together they rocked side-to-side in a comfortable, understanding silence. "Billboard-brow," Ino whispered in her ear. "You're my very best friend and I love you, too. We're in this together, always."
Freeing themselves from their emotional hug, Ino wiped her eyes and settled her vision on Tenten. The chocolate-haired woman looked at Ino with a bit of melancholy in her expression. Tenten debated whether she should tell Ino the news about Kiba or not.
As though Ino read her mind, Ino inquired about their wild friend. "Kiba couldn't make it?"
Slowly Tenten shook her head 'no'. "He had to work today and he couldn't take the day off. But he wanted me to tell you good luck with everything."
Swallowing thickly, Ino nodded in understanding and squared her shoulders. She would try to not think about Kiba or the incredible night they shared after their gathering in the hot springs. At the moment she only wanted to focus on everything that was right in front of her, everything she was about to leave behind. However if her plan was successful, Ino would make a return to Konoha very soon. She would simply have to be patient.
"So…" Picking up her carry-on bag and securing over her shoulder, Ino looked at her friends one last time and said, "This is goodbye… for now."
The day after Ino returned to the States, she sat in the Los Angeles office of the famous design house with its CEO and her manager, Ebisu. Ino looked across the opulent desk in the spacious, luxurious office of the CEO at the man before her. She narrowed her eyes at his spiked, gray hair, wood framed glasses and the endless wrinkles on his face. Knowing what she did in order to secure the contract with this design house made Ino want to retch. Today however, she will rectify her past actions and make things right.
Her gaze shifted to Ebisu who sat on her left and mentally Ino shrugged in nonchalance. She no longer worried about what he would say; she no longer cared. Her only concern was to clear her conscience and do the right thing once and for all.
"Today," Homura Mitokado cleared his throat and spoke. "Is the day you sign your contract with us Miss Yamanaka. Are you as excited as we are?"
Gripping the armrests of the chair she was sitting in, Ino straightened her spine and looked Homura into his black eyes and said, "I'm not signing the contract because I don't want the job."
Ebisu's chin dropped as his mouth was left agape. He turned to Ino with pure shock in his dark eyes, if one could see them behind his designer sunglasses.
Homura remained stoic and unmoving. He comfortably placed his elbows on his desk and folded his hands to rest his chin. Keeping his unwavering gaze on Ino, he calmly asked, "Mind if I ask why are you turning down such a prestigious offer?"
Sighing heavily Ino admitted, "I had a month to mull over my decision about the job. And I kept thinking about that night when Kin Tsuchi was hospitalized. You wanted her as your spokes model until that unfortunate incident." Ino mentally blocked away the images of Kin's body convulsing at the white party and her delicate frame in the hospital bed. "And I believe it's best to stick with your original decision."
"Ino! Think about this for a moment." Ebisu tried to keep Ino from making the worst decision of her career, but she ignored him. "You don't really want to do this. What happened that night wasn't your fault. Kin was already high from cocaine and—"
"YES IT IS MY FAULT!" Ino hollered to the two men in the room. "If I… if I…" The blonde allowed her sentence to trail off because she couldn't bring herself to admit her wrongdoing. "Look Mr. Mitokado, please consider what I'm saying. You only chose me as your spokes model because you were afraid of the negative press your company would receive if you hired Kin. I'm telling you that can be rectified if the media will see you're willing to give a recovering drug addict a chance to live her dream, to be a model.
"Kin's attending meetings and seeking counseling, but she hasn't given up on her dream. This is your… no, our chance to make things right. Kin deserves this opportunity and I don't want to take it away from her."
"I see." Homura nodded, however his expression didn't waver. "And let's say I offer Kin the job again, what happens to you, Ino?"
"I'm tired of this business," Ino openly confessed. "I'm not happy. This business destroys lives—mines included. I want to retire and move back to Japan. I want to open a help center for girls whose aspirations, dreams and self-esteem may have faltered because the negativity of their environment."
Reclining in his leather chair, Homura told Ino, "That's very noble of you. And I can assume you won't change your mind about your decision?"
"No sir. My mind's made up. I don't want to do this anymore." Feeling a heavy burden finally lifting from her shoulders, Ino allowed herself to smile for the first time since entering Homura's office that day. "Modeling used to bring me joy but not anymore. I missed the death of my father, I never got the chance to say goodbye. I miss my friends. I miss my home. And more importantly, I miss the person I used to be. I miss Ino.
"Thank you for the opportunity Mr. Mitokado, but again, I don't want the job. Please reconsider Kin." Without another word Ino rose from her chair and exited Homura's office, purposefully blocking out the protesting voice of her manager.
Kin Tsuchi wasn't difficult to find; everyone knew she was recovering at a prestigious, exclusive rehab center. Ino used her celebrity to enter the building to personally speak to the young, aspiring model.
Sitting across from Kin in her personal lounge area, Ino told the young brunette everything that transpired in Homura Mitokado's office that morning. The smile at finding out Homura was going to hire her as their spokes model warmed Ino's heart. Kin quickly stood from her chair to embrace Ino in a tight hug.
"Thank you so much, Ino! This is the nicest thing anyone's done for me! I can't believe it! You convinced Mr. Mitokado to hire me! Me! After everything that's happened, I thought I'd never be able to work again."
Ino also stood and returned Kin's hug with equal vigor. Smoothing her thick, jet-black hair, Ino left Kin with a few words of wisdom. "Listen to me Kin. This is a destructive industry—if you allow it to be. You must remain true to who you are, especially in the most difficult times. Never allow yourself to get in a position where you feel you have to sacrifice your health, virtue or morality. If you need someone to confide in, please call me. I gave you my number because I want you to use it and I'll help you in any way I can."
Nodding enthusiastically, Kin agreed. "I just can't believe you're giving all of this up just to move back to Japan."
Ino gripped her clutch in her hands and smiled gently before admitting, "Happiness is more important to me. Just like you have to follow your heart, it's time I follow mine, too. I'll see you, Kin."
Reaching for her sunglasses secured in the collar of her blouse, Ino placed the wired frames over her eyes and stepped outside, basking in the California sunshine. For the first time in years she felt free, uninhibited, liberated—and she loved it.
"Last stop, Konoha," the platinum-haired beauty whispered into the warm air.
If you guys believe I only inserted NaruHina into this story as a shameless plug, you're correct! I always loved them as a couple and since I'm nowhere near sagacious enough to write a full NH fic, I just wanted to plug them into this story a bit.
I apologize if this chapter seemed rushed. I saw no reason to draw it out longer than necessary. I do hope you enjoyed Ino's redemption.
Next is the epilogue.
