Chapter 6

Kakashi stood near the door to Sasuke’s room as he watched Tsunade. He couldn’t understand as well why Orochimaru would leave his mark on Sasuke much less his niece. He wasn’t about to let his only niece fall in to the hands of that snake. He then walked over to the bed that Sasuke was laying in and looked down at the fifth hokage.

“He has to have a reason to mark both Ariana and Sasuke?” he said to the woman sitting on the edge of the bed. “And we have to find out what that reason is before it is too late for both of them.”

Tsunade looked up at Kakashi as she slowly nodded her head. She knew that they were going to have their hands full when Sasuke wakes up because he is going to want to go after Ariana.

“Then we had better find out why real quick before this one wakes up and goes after your niece for stabbing the kunai in his shoulder,” she said as she got to her feet.

Kakashi nodded his head as he looked back down at the boy sleeping peacefully on the bed. He knew that Tsunade was right. Sasuke is the type to hold grudges against someone for the rest of his life.

“I will see what I can get out of Ariana,” he said as he turned and headed back towards the door and left the room. As Kakashi walked down the hallway, he remembered something that he needed to tell Tsunade about Ariana. So he headed back towards Sasuke’s room. He reentered the room and looked at Tsunade who was still standing near Sasuke’s bed.

**meanwhile**

Ariana had fallen back to sleep when Kakashi had left her room. She was completely oblivious to what was going on in her room. While she was asleep, a person, with silver hair pulled up over his sound ninja headband on his head, walked into her room. The person stood beside her bed and smiled wickedly down at her.

The boy continued to stare down at Ariana. He couldn’t understand why Orochimaru would want with her instead of Sasuke. He shook his head in order to clear it. He then leaned down and undid the straps that held her wrists in place.

“Hurry up, Kabuto,” came a male voice from the door. “We have to get her back to Lord Orochimaru.”

Kabuto turned and looked at the male standing just inside the hospital room door. The man standing there had long jet black hair, wearing the traditional ninja outfit. The newcomer smiled and stared at Kabuto with yellow eyes. Kabuto looked back down at Ariana’s sleeping form.

“Let’s go then, Caleb,” Kabuto said as he picked Ariana up in his arms and left the room.

Caleb quickly followed Kabuto as they walked out of the hospital, and the village for that matter, with Ariana. They both disappeared up into the trees.

While Caleb and Kabuto made their way back to the hidden Sound Village with Ariana, Caleb stopped Kabuto and took Ariana into his arms. He then started jumping through the trees once more, leaving Kabuto behind him.

Kabuto just stood there for a minute before he followed after Caleb. He couldn’t understand why Caleb would take Ariana from him. When he finally caught up to Caleb, he noticed that Ariana was starting to wake up in Caleb’s arms.

“We had better hurry back to Orochimaru before she wakes up completely,” Kabuto said as he rushed past Caleb.

**back in Sasuke’s hospital room**

Tsunade watched as Sasuke started to come to. She knew he was going to want to know why Ariana had stabbed him in the shoulder. As she continued to ponder what she would tell the young boy on the bed, Sasuke opened his coal colored eyes slowly.

“I’m going to kill Ariana,” he said in a parched tone.

Both Tsunade and Kakashi looked down at Sasuke when they heard his words. Tsunade hesitantly reached out to touch Sasuke’s arm but quickly pulled it back when his eyes turned towards her and Kakashi.

“No one is going to kill anyone, Sasuke,” Kakashi said to his former student.

Sasuke tried to sit up on his own. He stopped moving when he felt a sharp pain shoot through his left shoulder. Just as he screamed out from the pain, Tsunade knelt down beside his bed and gently helped him to a sitting position. When he was comfortable, Tsunade got back to her feet and went to the window while Kakashi remained near Sasuke’s bed. Sasuke then looked back at Kakashi.

“If I can’t kill her, then can I at least talk to her about what she did,” he said to both Kakashi and Tsunade.

Tsunade and Kakashi looked at each other for a couple of minutes before looking back down at Sasuke. They both could see the determined look in the young Uchiha’s eyes. They both knew that he would find out sooner or later as to why Ariana did what she did. Kakashi was the first one to speak.

“It’ll be awhile before you can see your cousin, Sasuke,” Kakashi said.

Sasuke continued to look up at his former sensei as he said, “Why is that?”

“Because we want to make sure that my niece is safe to be around,” Kakashi said quietly. “The only reason why she attacked you the way she did was because of Yue Mizrahi.”

Sasuke’s face suddenly held a dark look. His eyes became a darker black, if that was even possible. He knew the name that Kakashi had said. The girl used to hang around with Itachi right before the clan was massacred.

“If Yue Mizrahi is back, then so is Itachi,” he said in a dangerous tone.

Both Kakashi and Tsunade looked at the young Uchiha on the bed. They both knew that the boy was right about if Yue was back then so was Itachi. Kakashi walked out of the room and once again headed down the hallway towards his niece’s room. He needed to really talk to her about all of this.

**with Caleb and Kabuto**

Caleb and Kabuto finally entered the Hidden Sound Village with a still sleeping Ariana. Both men landed in front of a building and entered through the door. They both walked through the long and winding halls. They soon came to a stop in front of a large wooden door. Caleb then looked over at Kabuto.

“Can you please knock on the door. My arms are sorta full at the moment,” he said as he looked down at Ariana still asleep in his arms.

Kabuto just looked at Caleb as he reached out and knocked on the large door before them. “You know that Lord Orochimaru won’t let you stay with her. He has other plans for this Uchiha brat,” the silver-haired man said in a disgusted tone.

Kabuto was lucky that Caleb was still holding Ariana in his arms because Caleb had given a look that could kill. He knew what he said about Ariana was wrong, but it needed to be said. Before either man could react, Ariana’s right hand reached out and closed around Kabuto’s throat.

“He will remain by my side no matter what, Kabuto,” Ariana said with a slight growl.

Both Kabuto and Caleb looked down at the growling girl in Caleb’s arms. They were both met with a pair of glowing red eyes that had a menacing blank look in them.

Kabuto fought with Ariana’s tight hold on his neck. He could feel her grip tighten, successfully cutting off his airway. He tried to pry her hand from his neck but soon gave up when he felt her hand tighten even more.

“You have no say in any of this, Ariana,” Kabuto choked out.

Just then the door, they were standing in front of, opened and out stepped a man with pale skin, long black hair, and eyes that looked exactly like snake eyes. He was wearing a loose kimono that was tied with what looked like a thick rope. Caleb looked up and then bowed his head slightly.

“Lord Orochimaru,” he said quietly.

Ariana loosened her grip on Kabuto’s throat. She then removed her hand from his neck all together. She looked up at Orochimaru as her eyes returned to their normal ebony color. A shiver ran down her spine as she saw the man smile at her as he looked over at Kabuto.

“Ariana will be Caleb’s charge while she is here with us,” Orochimaru said as he reached out and gently touched her right cheek. He was pleased when he saw her pull away from his hand and bury her face in Caleb’s chest. “Take her to her room and stay with her, Caleb.”

Caleb nodded his head as he turned away from Kabuto and Orochimaru. He walked down the hallway and around a corner. He was glad to be away from Orochimaru because every time that he was around that man, he got a bad and sick feeling that something was going to happen for the worst.

Once Caleb was out of sight and out of hearing range, Kabuto turned and looked right at Orochimaru. He needed to know what was going on. He gently rubbed his neck where Ariana’s hand had been.

“Why are you letting Caleb watch over her?” he asked in a raspy tone thanks to Ariana.

Orochimaru just smiled as he watched Caleb’s retreating back. “Because our dear Ariana is going to be the one who will bring Sasuke back to us, Kabuto. And I want Sasuke to think that Caleb was the one who took her from the hospital.”

Kabuto nodded his head as he turned and started to walk away but stopped suddenly. He then turned back around and looked right at Orochimaru.

“They had her restrained to the hospital bed that she was in back at the Konoha hospital,” he said with a slight grin.

Orochimaru nodded his head in complete understanding. He already knew what had been done to poor Ariana because of her curse marks. He had always kept track of her through her curse marks after she left him the first time.

“I know what they did to my dear Ariana, Kabuto. But Caleb will keep her calm. You forget, Kabuto, that I marked both Caleb and Ariana at the same time. So their curse marks are connected to each other,” the snake man said as he turned and walked back into the room he came out of.

Kabuto just glared at Orochimaru as he closed the door. He walked down the hallway in the same direction that Caleb went with Ariana. He needed to know what the two of them were doing.

**with Caleb and Ariana**

Ariana finally looked up at Caleb when they got far enough away from Kabuto and Orochimaru. She felt like they were connected to each other somehow.

“You can put me down now, Caleb,” she said as nicely as she could muster. “I can walk.”

Caleb stopped walking. He smiled as he set Ariana down on her feet. He gently placed his hands on the small of her back to help steady her when she swayed slightly. When she stopped swaying, he led her down the hallway towards the room that she was going to be calling home for the time being.

“Why did they have you restrained to your bed back in Konoha?” he asked just to make conversation with Ariana.

Ariana sighed slightly as she stopped walking and looked away from Caleb. She shuddered slightly as she remembered what she had done to Sasuke.

“I attacked my cousin, Sasuke, with a kunai knife,” she said quietly.

Caleb pulled her into a light hug. He smiled when he felt her bury herself deep into his chest. He could tell that she felt bad for what she had done. He just wanted to be there to help her as much as she would allow him to.

“Why would you do something like that for?” he asked slightly concerned.

Ariana looked up at Caleb with tears shining in her black eyes. She had never encountered anyone who cared so much about what either happened to her or what she did; except for Eric though. She pulled away from Caleb and leaned against the wall.

“My cousin, Itachi, travels with this woman named Yue Mizrahi. And somehow she can gain complete control of my mind,” she said very quietly as the tears started to fall from her black eyes.

Caleb reached out and gently hooked a finger under her chin. He gently lifted her chin so he could look into her ebony eyes. He couldn’t believe the amount of pain he saw in those dark eyes of hers. He needed to know more about what she had been put through in her short life.

“Please tell me more, Ariana. I want to be able to protect you from anyone who will hurt you,” he said in a very caring tone.

Ariana smiled slightly as she looked up into Caleb’s yellow eyes. She could have sworn that she had seen them glow slightly. She could tell that he would truly protect her with his life if need be. She was happy to have someone in her life that would protect her.

“My mind can easily succumb to outside intrusions,” she said just above a whisper as they stopped in front of a wooden door. “Thank you for caring so much about me, Caleb.”

Caleb just looked at her and smiled a small smile. “You’re so welcome, Ari. May I call you Ari?” he asked of her.

Ariana smiled as she heard the shortened version of her name. She nodded her head as she said, “You sure can, Caleb.” There are only two other people who could get away with calling her ‘Ari,’ and they are her cousin, Itachi, and her Uncle Kakashi.

**with Kakashi**

Kakashi had left Sasuke’s room and headed towards his niece’s room. He really needed to talk to her about her curse marks. It bothered him that Orochimaru had gotten his filthy hands on Ariana to begin with. He knew he needed to seal her curse marks just like he had sealed Sasuke’s curse mark at the chunin exams.

He stopped in front of Ariana’s hospital room door. He was about to open the door when he realized that it was slightly ajar. He pushed the door open the rest of the way and saw an empty hospital bed and an open window.

“This is not good,” he said as he closed the door and headed back to Sasuke’s room.
