Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto and I make no money from these writings. |
Thanks so much to my betas Midnight Essence and Moodysavage. There will be only one more chapter after this one, and I will most likely post it tomorrow. I’m sorry to leave it with a cliff hanger this time, but you won’t have to wait long for more I promise :D I’d also like to thank my reviewers for your insight into the characters. YamanashiOchinashiIminashi , your PS made me smile ;) and everyone seems to be so insightful when it comes to my story!!! It’s like you’re reading my mind! (maybe I’m getting better at foreshadowing or maybe I’m being too obvious :S ) I guess that’s the treacherous ground you walk with clichés… Either way I enjoy all my reviews and I gain a lot from everything you see fit to tell me.
Blugirlami21: You say that when you review a story you telling the writer what you see. That is not what the review read like for me. “I'm not saying that he has to start punching people in the face from here on out but I need him to stop running away from conflict. When he is in a situation he doesn't want to be in, he needs be an adult about it and face it.” This is not telling me what you see, this is you telling me how to write. You say it’s a lack of maturity to respond to you for everyone to see? You left a negative review for everyone to see. The only thing your latest review proved to me was that you can criticize someone’s writing, but you can’t take it when a writer defends their work. I never said that readers had to agree with what I’ve written or even like it. I simply stated that telling a writer how to write is rude. Constructive criticism is always welcome and I’ve had many reviews like that before and I welcomed their input, especially from other writers because they understand how easy it is to make a mistake when writing multi chapter stories. You said in your review that you won’t be reading any further so this might be a waste of time, but either way I felt it needed to be said if for no other reason than to defend what I wrote. I believe you are self-important, and I think the fact that you didn’t acknowledge the fact that you were telling me how to write my story is proof of that. I’d also like to add that the review you left said only one possibly positive thing before going on and on about how much you didn’t like it. You may not have said outright that I was a hack, but you certainly didn’t say I wasn’t so to me it was definitely implied. I will be removing the reviews, and in a few days, my response as well. I will not let this ugliness taint my story anymore, and if you do leave another review it will be met with silence and will be deleted. Enjoy ;) Chapter 6 Sasuke walked up to the counter like he usually did and asked for green tea just as he had every time he came in. Naruto was grateful that the shop was still fairly empty, but the silence was filled with so many emotions that he felt encumbered by them. He went through the motions of making the tea, slowly. He felt Sasuke’s eyes boring into the back of his head and he was glad he had so much practice with these menial tasks so that he could do them without screwing up, and making his nervousness obvious. He went back to the counter with the cup of tea and set it down for Sasuke to take. “Your brother came by again today…” Sasuke reached across the counter and grabbed Naruto’s hand before he could pull it away. “I know, he’s come to see me several times since this all started.” Naruto looked up into steaming black eyes and realized he didn’t want to play this game anymore. He wanted to be able to have this with Sasuke; he just didn’t like the interference they seemed to get from everyone outside of it. “He said he would protect me so that I could be with you. He said he wants you to be happy and you haven’t been since I stopped seeing you.” Sasuke nodded but he didn’t say anything and Naruto didn’t know whether he was agreeing with what he said or if he just liked that Naruto was starting to do what he wanted again. “I think it would be ok if we started over.” Naruto said, hoping that Sasuke couldn’t hear the pleading in his voice. “No… I don’t want to start over. It took months to get here and I don’t want to go through that again. I want to start where we left off. Come home with me tonight.” Naruto tried to pull his hand away, but Sasuke had an unbreakable grip on him. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” “Why not?” Sasuke said, pulling him closer, and forcing him to lean over the counter now. Naruto blushed crimson, and felt a tremor run through his body. He hadn’t been this close to Sasuke in what felt like forever and that closeness was doing things to his body he wasn’t prepared for especially at work. “Your brother said…” He couldn’t finish, but the increase in his blush was obviously enough for Sasuke to understand. “What did he say?” Sasuke whispered as he tried to pull Naruto even closer. “He said… he said you must like be… being with me.” Naruto whispered back. “Of course I like being with you…” Sasuke looked a little irritated for a moment and then it seemed to dawn on him exactly what Naruto was trying to say. “Yes Naruto. You don’t have anything to worry about.” He reached up and brushed the fringe from Naruto’s eyes. Naruto was trying to look away, but he couldn’t. “You never said… and…” Sasuke laughed lightly and pulled back a little. He seemed to realize how nervous Naruto was and gave him some room. “I thought it was obvious. I keep coming back, that should have given you a clue.” Naruto jerked his hand away, and this time Sasuke let go. He hadn’t been expecting it so he pulled a little too hard and knocked over Sasuke’s cup of tea. It splashed burning liquid all down the front of his shirt. The string of curses that flew from his mouth were creatively offensive, and Sasuke was having a hard time not laughing if his tightly controlled facial expression was anything to go by as he rushed around the counter and started helping clean Naruto up. They’d cleaned up as much as they could and the tea was no longer burning him, but Sasuke was still acting like he was a mess, and the touches were becoming more intimate. Naruto slapped his hands away and glared at him until Sasuke retreated back to the customer side of the counter. There were a few people in the shop right then and Naruto realized that he’d made a fool out of himself with an audience. He turned around and went about making another cup of tea and was glad to have a chance to compose himself after his outburst. Sasuke paid for the cup and went to sit down like he usually did. The first hour passed quickly and Naruto looked up expecting to see his seat empty only to find him still waiting. He walked over and sat down next to him and looked him over curiously. “You’re tea is empty and it’s been over an hour…” A warm hand moved to Naruto’s thigh and squeezed lightly before sliding up further. Naruto had to scoot his chair away to keep things from becoming uncomfortable, but Sasuke didn’t seem to be fazed. “I’m waiting until you get off. I know you have tomorrow off and I’d like to spend the day with you.” “You can pick me up in the morning. You don’t have to hang around here while I work.” Sasuke’s eyes were locked with his then and his hand was back on Naruto’s thigh as if he hadn’t moved. “I won’t need to pick you up in the morning. I plan to wake up next to you.” Naruto stood up then. He was angry and uncomfortable. There were still things that they needed to talk about. No matter how much he’d missed Sasuke, they couldn’t just throw themselves back into a physical relationship without at least a little time to adjust. “I need time. I don’t know if I can deal with this right now.” Sasuke just nodded and leaned back in his chair casually as if he hadn’t a care in the world. His attitude was getting on Naruto’s nerves so he turned before he said something he’d regret and went back to work. The next hour seemed to fly by. Naruto hated that time always seemed to go more quickly when he didn’t want it too, and didn’t move fast enough the rest of the time. He was locking the door and turning off the lights when he felt Sasuke slip behind him and pull him close. “If I promise not to make you do anything you don’t want to do, will you come with me?” Naruto let out a self deprecating laugh at the thought of all the things he wanted to do. “It’s not that I don’t want to be with you Sasuke, I do. The problem is that I’m nervous. This has just been one problem after another, and I keep thinking that it’s never going to get any better. I’m not good at drama, and that’s all there’s been since I met you.” Sasuke turned him around so they were facing each other and looked Naruto in the eyes. “I promise, no drama tonight. Just a quiet dinner and sleep if that’s all you want, but I want you with me. You’ve had plenty of excuses and I’ve catered to all of them, but I’m tired of waiting. I want to spend time with you, not just sit around and watch you work. Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you.” Naruto sighed and pulled Sasuke into a hug. It felt so good to hold him close like this and Sasuke always smelled so good. “I don’t want you to give me anything. I don’t want you to think like that about me. I’m not like Itachi said. I don’t want to use you. I just don’t think I’m ready for this.” “I know you’re not like that, but that doesn’t mean I can’t give you things. I want to take care of you. You don’t need to be afraid, I can protect you.” Naruto pushed Sasuke away and couldn’t keep from glaring at him. “I don’t need your protection. I’ve been taking care of myself for nearly my whole life… I can protect myself.” Sasuke wanted to be angry at Naruto for being so stubborn but he couldn’t. He was careful not to get too close again while Naruto had his hackles up. It was obvious he was feeling caged, and Sasuke enjoyed very much being able to see what Naruto was feeling after living so long with people that mask every emotion they felt as if it were a weakness. Sasuke loved how expressive Naruto was, especially during sex. He’d been the most amazing lover Sasuke had ever known. It was all so new to him and every look, every touch, every sound he made was full of wonder and lust. Sasuke knew it had hurt, but he’d never been with a virgin before so he’d not known how to make things easier on him and it had been so good he couldn’t stop, but when he’d found the right angle and felt Naruto shudder beneath him it had been euphoric and he’d very nearly come right then. It only got better from there, and afterward Naruto became all that Sasuke could think about. Before that moment, Naruto had been interesting and good looking and innocent, but Sasuke wouldn’t have minded too much not seeing him again. Now, things were different. He wanted Naruto day and night, and he’d do just about anything to have him, even if Naruto wasn’t completely willing, Sasuke would find a way to make him so. Naruto’s anger seemed to deflate in the silence between them. His confusion was clear, but Sasuke wasn’t going to go without a fight, and Naruto obviously didn’t want to fight so Sasuke had to make a compromise, which he wasn’t all that experienced in doing. “I just want to spend time with you. If I have to promise no sex tonight then I will.” He didn’t want to, but he would if it would get Naruto in his car. They stared at each other for a long moment, and Sasuke almost smiled when he saw concession in Naruto’s eyes. “Alright, I’ll go with you, but… no sex.” Sasuke pulled him into his arms and held him tight, feeling a surge of heat at the slight erection he felt against his hip. “No sex tonight. I promise.” Naruto eased out of his arms and his smile was shy and hopeful. “Give me an hour. I need to go home and change.” He looked down at the tea stain down his shirt and pants. “Pack a bag.” Sasuke said as he turned the key that Naruto had left in the lock and pulled the door open. He didn’t look back or allow Naruto to say anything more. Naruto threw a mini fit in his head at the thought of sleeping in Sasuke’s bed again. It would be impossible to stop himself if Sasuke saw fit to seduce him, but he couldn’t lie to himself anymore. He’d missed the sex. It had only been once, but he’d found his body more than once craving Sasuke’s touch so much more intimately than he’d ever imagined before, and knew that it wouldn’t be long, even if Sasuke kept his word. He relocked the door and headed for his car. As his excitement built, time seemed to pass more slowly. When he made it to his bedroom he threw his soiled shirt and pants into the laundry and headed for the shower. He had some energy to burn before he could face close proximity to Sasuke without jumping him. He quickly took care of the erection that had been plaguing him since Sasuke had arrived in the shop. He felt much better and his head was far clearer. He dried off quickly and dressed, hoping that Sasuke wouldn’t insist on taking him anywhere that required him to look nice, and packed a bag with his tooth brush and some clothes. Sasuke was already waiting in the car downstairs when he came down so Naruto just hopped in the car and threw his bag over the seat. Sasuke smirked at him, and threw the car into gear before taking off down the hilly streets heading for his apartment. Naruto still couldn’t get over his apartment. The view was breathtaking and he was looking forward to getting a better chance to enjoy it this time. Before he knew it they were in the elevator heading up and Naruto found himself pinned against the wall by Sasuke’s body and thoroughly kissed. He fell into it easily letting Sasuke lead. When the door opened Sasuke pulled him into his apartment before dropping him on the sofa. Naruto watched Sasuke disappear into the bedroom and decided that if he was going to be left alone he’d go ahead and get a better look at that view. He could see the Golden Gate in the distance. It was beautiful at night just like most of San Francisco. He was still in awe of how green it was here, even at night, the lush landscape had a life to it that the desert lacked. Naruto felt a little stupid for thinking such naive things, but he couldn’t help it. Since he’d come here he’d found so many things to like, and hoped that his new life here worked out because he really wanted to stay. Sasuke came out when the door bell rang, and went to answer it without looking at Naruto. He came back with a paper bag and set it on the counter in the kitchen and jerked his head to get Naruto to come to him. Dinner was Sushi… needless to say Naruto was less than impressed, but he didn’t want to upset Sasuke so he filled his plate as much as he felt he had to with the strange little rolls and lumps. He realized his face must be giving him away when Sasuke smiled knowingly at him and slipped one of the strange looking little things in to his mouth. Naruto didn’t say any thing as he kept staring at his plate, in some way hoping that it would all just disappear before he had to eat it. “It’s not traditional Japanese Naruto. It’s American Sushi. California rolls, Caterpillar rolls, Rainbow rolls, that sort of thing. I’m not going to shove raw fish under your nose and make you eat it, but I’m thinking maybe I should in the future if you promise to make that face again.” Naruto glared across the table at him and picked up one of the strange bundles with more bravado than he felt. It was half way to his mouth when Sasuke started to laugh full out. “You should see the look on your face. It’s adorable.” Naruto put the roll down and glared at his plate, trying not to let his instincts take over. “It’s just avocado and a little fish with rice. I promise you’ll like it, and if you don’t then we can order a pizza or something. I just thought you’d like something interesting. I like showing you new things.” Naruto smiled then, but kept his face down to hide the blush. He picked up the roll again and this time he took a bite. It was good. Unusual, and nothing like he’d had before, but still good. Sasuke went back to eating, obviously satisfied with Naruto’s reaction, and they ate in companionable silence for the rest of the meal. Naruto didn’t eat all that much, but that had less to do with the food and more to do with the butterflies fluttering in his stomach. This moment had been at the forefront of his thoughts since the last time he’d spent the night here. Sasuke was thoughtful and gentle as he led him to the bath and left him to himself. He showered and brushed his teeth like he would at home and put on pajama pants before making his way slowly to the bedroom. Sasuke left him alone while he showered, and Naruto stood at the windows looking out over the city. Darkness had fallen and the lights made up for the lack of stars. Fog was rolling across the bay and it looked just as cold as it probably was. He saw the reflection of light flash across the window as the bathroom door opened before Sasuke shut it off. Footsteps rustled softly on the carpet as Sasuke made his way across the room to him. Naruto flinched when he felt hands around his waist, but relaxed quickly when Sasuke pulled him back to rest against his chest. His skin was damp and warm against Naruto’s naked back. He wanted to give in just then. His body was a slow burning ember, and he would do anything Sasuke wanted if he could just hold onto that feeling. Sasuke was true to his word though. He was led to the bed and when they were under the covers Sasuke only pulled him close. His back was against Sasuke’s chest again and even through several layers of cloth he could still feel the effect he had on the other man. He had so little control over his impulses, only his insecurity kept him from saying to hell with it and asking for what he knew they both wanted. Sasuke’s hand was over his heart, and it struck him then that Sasuke could tell just how nervous he really was. It took a long time for his heart to slow, and the constant steady sound of Sasuke’s breath soon lulled him to sleep. ooOOoo Morning came with the easy light of the sun. The room was dim and Naruto found himself enjoying how possessive Sasuke’s was in his sleep. They had shifted in the night, but even now those arms weren’t letting him go. He needed to get up though. He’d never been one for lying around in the morning after a full night’s sleep so he eased out of bed careful not to wake Sasuke and made his way to the bathroom. When he came out again Sasuke was awake. He was lying on his side, his head propped up on one hand, just looking. It hit Naruto suddenly that Sasuke had only agreed to the night, and the steady rise of the sun meant that night was long past and that made Naruto fair game. Sasuke gracefully shifted in one single motion from lying to siting. He stood slowly never breaking eye contact with Naruto and walked with deliberately sensual steps until they were toe to toe. Sasuke leaned in and kissed Naruto’s neck as both of his hands slid over Naruto’s hips. He was gentle and yet completely undeniable as he made it very clear that he was as aware of their arrangement as Naruto. The cold hit Naruto, and he realized that Sasuke had gone into the bathroom. He kept losing moments of time. He shook his head to clear out the fog, and decided that the bedroom was a little too much for him right then. The kitchen was better. He made a glass of ice water and drank it as he looked around. He realized there wasn’t a TV, and that was just strange. Wasn’t Sasuke seriously into video games? Maybe he got enough of it at work that he didn’t need a TV at home. He was too nervous to eat so he set the glass down on the counter and made his way over to the windows again. He was so focused on the ant people moving around on the sidewalks below that he didn’t hear Sasuke come out. He felt warm fingers lace with his and he was being pulled into the bedroom again. Sasuke didn’t say anything, but that wasn’t unusual. He was pulled close and he was surprised that Sasuke didn’t immediately start tearing his pants off. Sasuke was touching him. His fingers were running over his chest and stomach, up his back and down his arms. Sasuke pulled his hands up and kissed the palm of both while staring deep into Naruto’s eyes. He felt like Sasuke could read his mind, everything he’d been wanting, all the fear and anger and hurt. Especially the insecurity. He just wasn’t good enough for a man like Sasuke, but he wouldn’t fight it anymore, he wouldn’t make any more excuses. It was time to be honest. “I love you.” Naruto said with a shaky whisper that held all those fragile emotions. Sasuke pulled him close and those fingers whispered over his cheek. They were alone, and they could be gentle with each other and weak for each other without having to worry about judgment. Sasuke wouldn’t say it back, Naruto knew that, but his touch told him everything. No one had ever been gentle with him before. No one had ever answered his weakness with anything but violence. He knew that Sasuke loved him. They were drawn to each other in a way he’d only ever heard of in books or movies. Fiction was where you found this kind of connection, but here he was just 19 years old and knowing deep in his soul that this was a defining moment. He’d never know this feeling with anyone else. This was his chance, and no matter the risk he’d take it. ooOOoo Sasuke had undressed them both slowly and pulled the duvet back before pulling Naruto onto the bed with him. It was more like coaxing than demanding, and Naruto was a little worried that he’d somehow affected Sasuke’s confidence. He didn’t worry long, it became obvious that Sasuke was worried that Naruto would bolt. He was handling him with care, like he was fragile, but Naruto had never been fragile in his life so he decided to show Sasuke exactly how not fragile he was. He pulled Sasuke to him with a firm hand on the back of his neck and for the first time, he kissed Sasuke. The reaction was brilliant and the mood changed from tentative to fiery in a flash. Naruto laughed a little at Sasuke’s enthusiasm, but lost his train of thought when Sasuke’s body lay flush against his. He was overwhelmed. Sasuke’s hands were everywhere at once and his neck would remain marked for days with bruises and teeth marks. It wasn’t in him to be so passive though, and with a burst of energy he flipped Sasuke onto his back and straddled his hips. Sasuke didn’t miss a beat, grabbing both hips tight and bucking up into Naruto. Their erections rubbed against each other and Naruto arched into him wanting nothing more than to get that feeling again. His confidence was building slowly. He watched Sasuke watch him with lust filled eyes. It was erotic in a way he’d never imagined; those eyes alone could make him feel sexy. They rocked together, and Naruto felt himself losing rhythm as his control started to slip. The hands on his hips gripped him hard, forcing him to stop, and he panted hard, closing his eyes trying to regain his composure. He wanted so many things, but he was impatient and obviously had no stamina. Of course, he could forgive himself easily since the man he was losing control with was nothing short of stunning. He drew in a long breath and exhaled slowly before opening his eyes again. Sasuke was smirking up at him, and gave no warning before he had them flipped again and Naruto’s legs pulled up around his waist. Naruto thought maybe they were both a little impatient just then, and let himself relax when he heard the snap of a bottle cap echo in the sunlit room. Sasuke was speaking softly in Japanese again, but Naruto didn’t mind so much now. It was so sexy knowing he had such an effect on the man over him that he wasn’t even aware he’d fallen back into his native language. Sasuke prepared him more thoroughly this time, and when he moved to enter Naruto there was only slight discomfort and pressure. He breathed out in an effort to relax and realized Sasuke had slid in easily all the way. It felt so right, like this, without any barriers. Sasuke was looking at him for a reaction. He reached up and threaded his fingers through dark hair and pulled him down. The kiss was slow and easy, and it left them both shaking. It seemed that was enough because Sasuke moved then, and it was a relief. All Naruto wanted, all he could think right then was move… move… move. Sasuke’s hips pushed forward with the strictest control. He shifted with each thrust until Naruto bowed under him. He held that position and ruthlessly pounded into Naruto making him pant and cry out each time their hips met. It was too much… Naruto was losing his mind, he couldn’t think or speak or do anything but lay there and let Sasuke do anything and everything he wanted. When he came it was a complete surprise. It was glorious and magnificent and the kind of instinctually physical reaction that Sasuke was sure to be so very smug about, but his thoughts scattered after that and he was lost to the sensation of Sasuke’s release and the painful fingers digging into his thighs. Sasuke’s face was beautiful just then, tight yet relaxed at the same time. The whole world was just gone, swept away in a haze of lust, and Naruto knew just what he was feeling because he was still feeling it too. He couldn’t tell exactly how long they stayed like that locked together feeding off each other’s pleasure, but it was a long time, and even though it had been the most exhausting shared orgasm ever, Sasuke didn’t stop touching him, kissing him, worshiping him. When they parted, Sasuke laid down next to him leaving one hand to rest over Naruto’s heart. Physically they were both exhausted, but they’d slept all night so sleep just wasn’t happening. It didn’t take long for Naruto’s stomach to make itself known, and Sasuke smiled at him before dragging him into that heavenly shower once again. When they were clean and dressed they went out for breakfast. It was still early so they went to a café near Union Square. It was a beautiful morning, the sun shone through the clouds, lighting everything with a morning glow. Naruto was grateful that Sasuke hadn’t picked anything insanely expensive or requiring a dress code, though he supposed he couldn’t since they were both in jeans. They milled around eating mini baguettes with honey and laughing at the mess they were making. They were oblivious to the warm and envious stares they received as they talked and ate and stayed lost in their own world. Later Sasuke needed to go by his office so Naruto tagged along, a little nervous about it since last time hadn’t been that great. He was relieved when they got there to find only a handful of people scattered across the room. They barely noticed the two of them as they made their way to Sasuke’s office, and only one of them, a man named Lee that seemed overly enthusiastic to see them, but too wound up in his work to fully break away. Sasuke just kept moving, making sure Naruto was with him every moment until they reached the door. He unlocked it quickly and relocked it once they were inside. Sasuke went straight to his desk which was neat as a pin, and started shifting through drawers looking for something. Naruto made his way to the windows and looked out across the street to the other buildings. It seemed that like in most big cities, people worked every day of the week, and San Francisco was no exception. Sasuke seemed to have found what he was looking for and was typing quickly on his computer now with determination. Naruto watched him from the corner of his eye. It was amazing how focused and driven the man was. It was even more amazing that he was interested in someone so unfocused. Naruto was only driven to live his life, and enjoy his newfound family. It was odd to think that Sasuke’s experiences with family, though completely different from his, were just as disastrous. He wondered if anyone was truly happy with their family or if everyone had difficulties. It didn’t take long for him to finish and he turned to Naruto and smiled. “All done, do you want to try my chair before we go?” It was a power chair after all, and Naruto thought he might like it for a moment. He wondered how many people got to sit in Sasuke’s chair, but didn’t ask as he slid in and relaxed back into the cushions. Sasuke knelt down in front of him then, and Naruto’s eyes went wide as saucers when he began unzipping his pants. He was hard in an instant, damn the location, and Sasuke was eager to please as he sucked Naruto in and attempted to swallow him whole. Naruto’s eyes were rolling up in his head a lot sooner than his ego could have hoped, but it was so good he didn’t care, and Sasuke looked quite pleased with himself. They left the office to the same amount of attention they had when they arrived, but Lee looked at him with a knowing grin that made him blush so hard he could feel it down to his toes. The rest of the day was spent in the same way, eating, enjoying each other, and having any kind of sex they could anywhere they could. By the time they made it back to the apartment they were exhausted and completely unprepared to see Sasuke’s father, Fugaku Uchiha sitting on the couch drinking a glass of wine as if he owned the place. Sasuke snarled, but only loud enough for Naruto to hear as they made their way fully into the room “What are you doing here?” Sasuke said in a tone that was barely civil. Fugaku leisurely set the wine glass down on the coffee table in front of him and leaned back before addressing his son. “I am here to see my son. Is it so wrong that I should want to see you after so long? Your mother was unable to come, but she sends her love.” “Don’t treat me like a fool father. You aren’t here to see me; you’re here to reassert your dominance over me. I’ve told you before; I will not be your servant. You have plenty of those to do anything and everything you command. You don’t own me, and there’s nothing you can do to make me come back. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a guest and we are very tired. I’m sure you can see yourself out, after all you saw your way in.” Fugaku’s face never shifted or twitched or showed any form of emotion at all. Naruto watched him closely through his lashes, and wondered if he practiced looking like a statue in front of a mirror or it was natural. He was way too good at it either way. The man stood slowly and took several steps in their direction, but stopped before he got close enough to be considered a threat. “I have every right to expect your obedience, I am your father. I have come here because I have had enough of this game you’ve been playing. It’s time to come home Sasuke. Your mother misses you, and your wife is eager for your return.” His eyes were sharp as a hawk as they watched Naruto, and his nostrils flared just slightly, but enough for Naruto to know that he was angry that he’d not gotten the reaction he’d wanted. Sasuke slid his hand into Naruto’s and held it in a painfully tight grip. His palms were sweaty and cold, letting Naruto know just how nervous he was. “I’m gay father. You’ve known long enough to get used to it, and I thought that someone as intelligent as you would, if not understand it then at the very least accept it. I am lost to you. When you banished me I took it for what it was. Freedom from you. I have a life here, and I run a respectable business. I’ve found a lover that can see past the name and the money and most of all the reputation of my family, and I am not willing to give it up just because you have something to prove. I see my mother every Christmas, and she’s told me herself that even though she would like more, she’s grateful for the time she gets. You don’t need me, you don’t even love me. I’m nothing more than a possession to you, and my disobedience has caused you nothing more than a little shame that you could have let go of years ago if it weren’t for your ego. I’m happy father… can’t you let me have that since you’ve taken everything else from me.” Fugaku was unmoved by Sasuke’s words as far as Naruto could see. He was afraid of what was happening in this room. It was obviously a standoff between two men that had no intention of standing down, and knowing what they were both capable of made Naruto start to shake a little with adrenalin and fear. He wanted to run, hide, stand between this horrible man and his lover and make everything ok. He’d gone through too much to get to this point to just stand aside and let Sasuke go, but what could he do. Fugaku Uchiha was a powerful and dangerous man, and he was just a boy that worked in a coffee shop. There was suddenly a knock at the door and Naruto jumped like he’d been shot. Sasuke looked at him and nodded toward the door signaling for him to go so he eased his hand out of Sasuke’s and went to see who was there. He opened the door to see Itachi Uchiha standing there looking casual and cool as always, and his shadow, Shino, standing just behind him. Itachi smirked at him and motioned for him to step aside so he did, not knowing if this was good for the situation or bad, but knowing that it was better than the nothing that was happening behind him. Shino reached in and took the door from him with a nod and slowly closed it with him on the outside guarding it, or at least that’s what Naruto assumed. He walked back into the living room to find Itachi sitting on the other couch from where Fugaku had been sitting. His feet were propped up and crossed at the ankle and he was staring at both his father and brother with a bored look that in that moment looked fake. “I hadn’t heard that you were in town until a few moments ago father. What brings you here on such short notice? I think Sasuke would have told me if he’d been expecting you…” Fugaku looked at his oldest son with obvious pride and slight irritation on his face. It was apparent to Naruto that he’d not planned for this type of confrontation and was unsure of his footing now. “I’ve come to take Sasuke home. It’s obvious I made a mistake in leaving him on his own for so long, and it’s time to correct it. It is time for him to assume responsibility for his role in our family.” Itachi smiled, but his eyes remained serious. “Sasuke’s responsibility is to be true to himself. It is not necessary for him to deviate from the future he’s built. I am here and I can assure you no one is more well protected. I’ve taken on his safety personally, and I see no reason for things to change.” Fugaku was fuming now. It was obvious he was not used to being told no, and Itachi just gave him a resounding no, even if it was polite and respectful. “I am aware of your opinion on the subject Itachi, but the fact remains that he has a family, and duty. Our honor as Uchiha is a delicate balance that he’s tipped in the wrong direction. I will not stand for this shame to go on any longer. He’s coming home, and that’s final. I was only being polite in informing him. I wanted him to be able to tie up any loose ends before he returns, but as it stands now, he will be leaving as soon as possible. I will have men here within the hour to take care of everything.” He made to leave, but Itachi stood then and his presence seemed to echo off the walls. He was naturally a formidable man, and Fugaku again tried to cover his pride and irritation at the sight. “Sasuke has not hurt our honor in any way that is permanent or even detrimental to our name. So he likes to sleep with men. Is that really any of your business? Sasuke will be staying here for however long he chooses and you will not do anything about it. I have been the perfect son since the day I was born. I have been the best at everything for no other reason than to make you proud. I have worked for you making sure you never need dirty your hands on anything unsavory. I’ve ensured that no one questions the Uchiha name in anything, and built you an empire in the west. I have even married the woman that you chose and gave you an heir for the Uchiha name. My motive as a young man was simply to make you proud, but for many years now my main reason for pleasing you was to ensure you would leave Sasuke to his life. If you interfere I assure you not only will you lose Sasuke, but me as well. He is my blood, and I will do whatever it takes to make him happy even if that means taking you out of the equation. I am the man you made me father, and you need to be very sure about the decision you make right now because the consequences could affect the rest of your life, your honor and your family.” “Tachi…” Sasuke mumbled as he looked at his brother as if for the first time. “I did it all for you little brother, and I would do it again. I am happy with my life the way things are. The only thing that makes me unhappy anymore is knowing you are unhappy. I will protect you even if it’s from our own father. I may be his honor, but you are mine. I would be shamed for the rest of my life if I allowed you to be caged when there was something I could do to keep it from happening.” Sasuke was obviously overwhelmed, but unable to express himself. Naruto could see just how stunted these Uchiha men really were. Stoicism was more of a curse than a blessing for them. Both Naruto and Sasuke were too busy looking at Itachi to realize what was happening until it was too late. Fugaku was pulling out a handgun from inside his coat, and it was pointed directly at Naruto, but Itachi wasn’t distracted at all. He was by far better with a hand gun as he pulled his out and leveled it at Fugaku’s chest and fired. The report was deafening, and Naruto only saw the body fall to the floor. Sasuke screamed and lunged toward Fugaku, but Itachi had him in his arms faster than Naruto could blink. The second shot rang out even louder than the first and Itachi’s whole body jerked with the impact. Thank you so much for reading!!!
