Chapter 6
Tsunade blinked at the two Uchiha, Kakashi, Sakura and Sai. There was just no way what she was hearing was true. “You… FIVE shinobi lost a four year old child? Lost Naruto?” Her lips pursed and she was about to send someone through her closed door when it burst open.
“Hokage-sama!” Shikamaru Nara was flushed and lacking his normal drawl. Five pair of eyes looked at him in shock and one in confusion. “Naruto!” Tsunade was on her feet as soon as she’d heard her gaki’s name. Taking a deep breath because he had actually run to get there, “I found him running in the streets, crying and panicking. I took him to Gaara; I didn’t know what else to do. As soon as he saw Naruto he snatched him out of my arms and before Neji or I knew what was happening they were encased in a sand ball!” Already leading the woman down the tower stairs he looked worried. “Neji freaked out. He went to get Temari and Kankuro.”
Nodding Tsunade growled at the group following. “I swear Uchiha if you did something to hurt him I’m having you publically FLOGGED.” She turned pointing a finger right in the face of the youngest Uchiha.
“You are aware that he is more than capable of getting himself into the trouble we find. I had a fight with my brother. I hardly could have known it would send him into hiding.” Sasuke may have been arguing with the blond woman but inside he was panicking. What if his actions had sent the child into a panic? What if he had scared Naruto?
“And you. You know exactly the sort of trauma Naruto has endured. How could you not consider that before deciding to have a screaming match with you younger brother?” She glared at Itachi. “The two of you had better grow up fast. Once I’ve gotten Naruto back to normal I’m going to let him handle you the way he feels most fitting.” Tsunade warned as they entered the Hyuuga compound.
She bypassed the elders who had come to meet her shaking her head. “I told you I have nothing polite to say to any of you. I am here for Neji.” They gasped when the young man appeared as if summoned from the ether. “Take me to them.”
With a nod Neji took the entire group into his family home. In the center of his living room was a large floating ball of sand. “He hasn’t responded to his siblings.”
“He hasn’t done this in years. What happened? Neji says that he saw Naruto and the sand was covering them before he had Naruto in his arms?” She looked at Shikamaru who was nodding.
“By the time we got here Naruto was silent. He’d stopped crying. He was just shaking and… there was a look I’d never seen. Shattered… he looked broken.” The shadow nin whispered low and worried. “As soon as Gaara saw him the little man grabbed him and then sand ball.”
“He hates when you call him that.” Tamari glared at her boyfriend. “I can hear them talking. It sounds like he’s gotten Naruto to talk at least.”
Neji glared at the two Uchiha brothers. “What happened?” The entire room turned to glare at the raven haired men.
“They let Naruto see them having sex and the Dobe thought Kakashi was killing Itachi. So I went in believing the Akatsuki had found him. It’ll scar me for life seeing them going at it.” Sasuke shuddered. “Then we got into a fight.” He sighed shaking his head. “I’m guessing the fight scared him.”
“You threatened to murder me. It’s more likely that you frightened him and he ran off to hide from you believing he would be next.” Itachi actually smirked. “You are likely now on the ‘Bad Ninja’ list.”
Tsunade was reaching to send the ANBU through a wall when Kakashi smacked the long haired man up the side the head. “That is not a good thing Itachi. Sasuke and Naruto need one another.” The copy nin had been worried about Sasuke’s reaction to all this and having Naruto to focus on was probably the only thing holding the young sharingan wielder together.
The shock of possibly being put on the Dobe’s terror inspiring list cut through him in a way that made him feel light headed. Moving to the ball of sand floating in the air he placed a hand on it and hissed as the sand engulfed and squeezed his appendage. Calling out he was proud his voice didn’t waver. “Dobe, Naruto come out. I didn’t mean it. I won’t actually kill Itachi. I was angry and I said mean things to him.” Sasuke felt like an idiot. He hadn’t spoken this much in front of the others since returning.
Inside the protection watery blue eyes looked up into green ones. “He was scawee.” They were the first words Naruto had actually spoken. Gaara had been whispering comforting things as Naruto just repeated ‘no’ over and over.
Frowning the red head realized that no matter the age Sasuke Uchiha was the blond’s weakness. That the raven haired man could always get through to Naruto. “Ninja can be scary when they need to be. It keeps them alive on missions.” Gaara reasoned.
When Naruto nodded he asked quietly. “Do you fink he means it or is it a lie do make me come oud so he can kill me?” He and Gaara whispered for a moment and a small voice yelled out. “Lemme talged to Tachi.”
“I am fine Naruto. I’m very sorry for yelling and fighting. We didn’t think about how it would upset you. We were very angry with each other.” Itachi called from his place beside Kakashi. “And Kakashi wasn’t trying to hurt me.” Naruto nodded at Gaara after the red head promised that if there were any tricks, he would kill to protect him.
When the sand parted everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief. Naruto saw Itachi safe and Sasuke looking repentant. Shaking his head, the blond scowled his very best at the younger Uchiha. “You is bad! You done yell ad my Tachi no more.” He insisted. Rolling his eyes Sasuke pinched the bridge of his nose. The Dobe would definitely be the death of him.
“Yes Naruto. I have already apologized. We need to let Lady Hokage give you another exam. Will you come with me?” Sasuke leaned down to let the chibi on his back once more. Looking at Sasuke suspiciously he ran over to the blond woman.
“She can dake me. You down godda.” He was still scared of the ninja and wasn’t sure he wanted to be alone with him. Watching Tsunade lift the blond up protectively, Sasuke felt the action as if it were a Rasengan to the chest. He had to find some way of making the blond trust him again but he hadn’t the first idea how.
When Naruto was taken off to the hospital for his exam Sasuke wasn’t allowed inside the room because of the way it would upset the chibi-Dobe. Sasuke paced shaking his head. He had to find some way to gain forgiveness. What was the best way to get through to Naruto’s heart? Sasuke stopped and shook his head at how slow he was. The fastest way to Naruto’s heart was through his stomach. “I’m going out. I will meet you all back at the house.” Taking off Sasuke made for Ichiraku lightening fast.
“I need five bowls of your best ramen to go.” He informed the owner and waited. It took long enough that Sasuke was sure they would be home. When he entered he heard Itachi and Kakashi talking to the small blond boy trying to convince him that Sasuke wasn’t bad, would not kill them all, and that they would not fight any more.
Naruto’s head turned and wide scared blue eyes met Sasuke’s before his nose wrinkled and he inhaled the aroma coming from the bag in Sasuke’s hand. “Was dat?” He was up now heading for Sasuke sniffing the air like an animal. “Dat smells weely good.” He looked up hopefully. If he brought yummy food the other man couldn’t be all bad. People who didn’t want him alive didn’t give him food.
“It’s ramen, Ichikaru’s best. I brought it for everyone, two bowls for you.” He smirked when he had the Dobe attached to his leg bouncing in excitement. Crouching down he let Naruto scramble up onto his back and walked them to the kitchen. “We will prepare it while Kakashi and Itachi clean up.” Stilling but keeping his back to the two men, “individually.” He added. Sasuke had no desire at all to worry about his brother and sensei going at it like rabbits in his house. He shuddered again and continued to his kitchen. At least he had the chibi back. He could protect his friend this way.
