So here's the next chapter. I was feeling ill today and decided to add Madara into the mix to make myself feel better. I'm on a Madara/Naruto kick. But don't worry, I'm not changing the pairing. I respond to reviews here: http://xiophelia.livejournal.com/
`~` Naruto shot out of bed the moment the sun had set. Gaara was coming over today to give him a report on Iruka. It had been a week since the plane had ‘crashed.’ And the blond vampire had hoped to any being that was listening that Iruka was okay. He was glad that the redhead was arriving tonight. He was sick of being around Sasuke and his head hurt from all the information the vampire was trying to cram in his head. His lessons were progressing slowly. With the news of his death sure to hit his father soon, Naruto couldn’t concentrate. Sasuke had been angry and barely spoke to the blond outside of the lessons. So the blond would then go out into the garden and spend his nights there. Sometimes Mikoto would join him and they would have a nice conversation. She was fascinated with Naruto’s human life and wanted to know everything. He tried his best to explain his life to her. It hadn’t been easy going over his past with her. But she had understood and told the young vampire to take his time. Eventually Naruto had told her his whole life story and she hugged him, giving off that motherly love. It seemed that maybe Sasuke and Itachi didn’t let her hug them often. And Naruto couldn’t help but think that maybe that was their problem. He voiced his opinion to Mikoto and she laughed. She had agreed with his theory and had been trying to catch Sasuke in a hug ever since. The vampire had known it was his fault and had given him glares ever since. Mikoto seemed disappointed in her son but had not voiced her concern to her son nor her husband. It seemed that Naruto had become her confidant. And he didn’t know how to feel about that. He knew Mikoto was really old by the way she carried herself and he couldn’t understand why she held an interest in him. But their friendship was one he appreciated in the mansion. She made the nights go by nicely and he had told her so. He also told her that even though they only knew one another for only a week or so, she was certainly one of his best friends right now. And Mikoto was so overjoyed that she cried blood tears of joy and hugged Naruto tightly. He was sure that if he were still human that she would have killed him. He returned the hug gently and Mikoto was embarrassed that she had used her strength on a newborn, forgetting that he could easily take the damage. But Naruto couldn’t help but look forward to Gaara’s visit. The redhead had been his friend for about five years now. He had sensed something familiar in the redhead and had pestered him until they became friends. But Gaara would not tell him about his past and that really hadn’t bothered the human Naruto. The blond turned in the bed and glanced at Sasuke. The Uchiha had demanded that they at least sleep together during the day. He didn’t want Naruto to wander off on his own in case he had turned out to be a day walker like Gaara. It was too risky to let Naruto go out in broad daylight. But so far he had not shown the signs of being a day walker. And that saddened Naruto. He wanted to be able to be with his precious people for at least a few more years. Naruto decided not to dwell on what had been done. He had to move forward and find a purpose in this existence. If he had a purpose then maybe he could make something good out of this. He would discuss his options with Mikoto later. She would be more than willing to help him. The blond vampire rooted around the dressers and the closet until he found something suitable to wear. When he was satisfied with his choices he went into the bathroom and opted to take a shower this time. While the bath was nice, he wanted to be available as soon as Gaara arrived. His excitement grew with each passing moment. It seemed like it had been a long time since he seen Gaara and not a little over a week. He had hoped that maybe Gaara would take him under his wing. Sasuke was just too distant lately and it had hurt Naruto. He wanted the Uchiha to open up to him a bit more, but he couldn’t get anything out of the older vampire. The blond wondered what he had done wrong to make Sasuke so mad at him. He had tried to broach the subject many times, but Sasuke only ignored him. After two days of that treatment, Naruto gave up. And Sasuke seemed to have relaxed in relief. The young vampire shook the thoughts from his mind. Gaara would be here and Naruto couldn’t wait to see his friend. Naruto got out of the shower and finished getting ready for the night. While the hot shower had been nice, he wanted to see his friend more. Gaara meant a lot to him and he wouldn’t lose that friend for eternity. The blond wasn’t afraid to admit that he needed help. Hopefully Gaara would understand where he was coming from. He quietly snuck out of the room and made his way down the tea room. If he waited for Gaara in the garden, then he was afraid that he would miss him. And Naruto certainly didn’t want that. He found a book that he had hidden in the tea room. Mikoto had been kind enough to let him into the library and sneak out a few of the books that Sasuke would never know was missing. He would never have guessed that Mikoto had a devious streak. Naruto had read a few chapters when his ears picked up the sound of a car entering the driveway. He quickly placed the book back and dashed for the entry hall. He couldn’t contain his excitement if his existence had depended on it. Naruto’s excitement filled the entire space. The energy seemed to hum and spread to every corner. And it didn’t take long for the other occupants to show up. It seemed that Naruto didn’t quite know how to control his aura just yet and it wasn’t for Sasuke’s lack of trying either. The Uchiha had tried desperately to get Naruto to hide his aura, but the blond hadn’t caught on yet and didn’t seem interested in learning. As soon as Gaara opened the door Naruto jumped on him and gave a him a bear hug, tumbling them both to the floor. He began to mumble about how much he missed the other man and that he didn’t want to be separated again. The sentences of course were strung together so no one could really make out what he was saying. It took Gaara a few minutes to remove Naruto from his person. The blond smiled sheepishly and scooted away from his friend. The silence in the room was tense since everyone knew that Naruto wanted to ask about Iruka. Sasuke of course had already gotten that information from Gaara. But he did not dare tell the blond vampire since he had wanted to hear it from Gaara in person. “Naruto I believe I have some news about your father you would like to hear.” The redhead’s voice gave nothing away. “Yeah I really would like to hear it. Umm Sasuke may we use the tea room? Just me and Gaara?” Sasuke was taken aback. He thought for sure that Naruto would request his presence there. Things between them hadn’t been that well in the past week, but the Uchiha thought that Naruto would want him there when Gaara delivered the news. “Whatever moron, like I care.” Sasuke huffed. Naruto felt a shot of pain go through him. He hadn’t expected that response from Sasuke. Sure the Uchiha had been nothing short of rude to him for the past week, but Naruto didn’t think that the older vampire would be like that at a time like this. So the blond just quietly thanked and pulled Gaara to the tea room forcibly. When they entered the tea room Naruto promptly sat and ushered Gaara to do the same. The blond pinned Gaara with an expectant blue gaze. He knew he wouldn’t have to verbalize what he wanted to know. And when the redhead began to speak, Naruto almost wished he hadn’t asked. “Iruka is taking your death hard. He barely eats anything. I think your friend Ino checks on him everyday just to make sure he hasn’t done anything drastic. But I don’t think you have to worry about that. He was showing some sign of improvement before I came here. He asked me a strange question though.” “What was it?” “He asked me if you were suicidal. I told him there was no possible way that you were. You loved life too much just to give it up. He thought that maybe since you quit your job you were dissatisfied with life. I told him that wasn’t the case. You had spoken to me of the matter and that you felt you could do good elsewhere. I may have let it slip that you were going to work for Sasuke.” “Thanks Gaara. I know you’ve been watching over him for me and I appreciate it. As long you stay in Konoha, will you watch over him for me?” Naruto pleaded. It was something he desperately wanted since he had caused his father so much pain. “That will be no problem Naruto. You are a friend and you’re going through a rough time right now, so I will help in any way that I can.” Naruto beamed at Gaara for that comment. “There’s something else I wanted to ask you. I want you to replace Sasuke. Things haven’t been going well lately…and I think he hates me.” “I can’t do that Naruto. His family was the one who turned you, so someone of Uchiha blood must handle you.” The blond gave Gaara the saddest face he could muster. He knew that no one was immune to that face, not even a vampire. The redhead had experienced it first hand before and the blond had certainly gotten his way. But it seemed that Gaara was resilient to it this time. So Naruto moved to his knees and clasped his hands together and begged with the same face. “Damnit I told you no! I can’t do it no matter how much I want to. You have to tough it out with Uchiha and then you can come with me when I finalize my plans to move away from Konoha.” Naruto smiled as he stood. “You’re a great friend Gaara. I wished that we could have been more.” Gaara gave the blond a sad smile. “Yes I know. While I know we could have been great together, we’re simply not meant to be.” Naruto returned the smile and placed a chaste kiss on the other vampire’s kiss. Of course that had to have been the moment that Sasuke would walk in. The two vampires broke apart and a stare down ensued between all three. The Uchiha had managed to scowl at Naruto the whole time, his gaze never turning to Gaara. Naruto returned the scowl and then decided it wasn’t worth dealing with a pissy Uchiha. The blond turned and stalked out of the tea room. He would go to his favorite place to think this whole thing through. He thought that since he had to have an Uchiha look after him and teach him what he needed to know, he could ask Mikoto. She was too sweet to be an Uchiha and yet she was the only one who actually seemed to care about him. When he came to the garden, the moonlight was streaming down brightly, illuminating the garden in a beautiful pale light. Naruto felt peace well up in him at the sight. He silently found a bench and sat gently on it. His attention was on how everything looked so beautiful. He refused to think of his predicament and the bastard that was attached to it. He began to hum lightly to himself. It was a trick that Iruka had used when he first brought Naruto home. It would calm the blond down enough to go to sleep. Naruto guessed it was because his mother had done the same thing and he recognized on some level that it was relaxing. He certainly missed his mother, but he missed Iruka more. He didn’t think that the separation would get any easier. He already wanted to storm back to Konoha and tell Iruka that everything was a mix up and that he wasn’t on the plane that day. But if he wanted to continue his existence, he couldn’t do that. He was sure the vampire council had spies everywhere in the human world. They needed to be on their toes in case a vampire exposed them for what they were. Naruto wondered how much the spies were paid to keep their mouths shut about such a thing as vampires. It had to have been a pretty sum of money. Naruto stiffened as he felt a presence enter the garden. He refused to turn around and look in case it was Sasuke. It would take a lot of groveling from the bastard to get Naruto to forgive him. But then the blond wondered if Sasuke had ever apologized in his entire existence as a vampire. Surely the Uchiha had too much pride to do such a thing and Naruto wondered if what they had would ever be repaired. Because the blond vampire knew that he would not apologize. “What a beautiful sight to lay my eyes upon.” The voice from behind Naruto definitely wasn’t Sasuke’s. This voice was refined and flowed like honey. Naruto resisted the urge to turn around and see who had entered the garden. He didn’t want to give the presence the satisfaction that the blond was remotely curious. Naruto just about had his fill of arrogant Uchiha bastards. “Why must you so cruel young one? Surely you would welcome the wisdom of someone wiser than yourself?” Again Naruto resisted the urge to turn around. Whoever this guy was could fuck off, but he would never vocalize that opinion because he certainly didn’t want to get into any trouble. And he didn’t want to piss Sasuke off any more than he already had. Naruto stiffened as someone sat down beside him. He let his curiosity get the best of him and looked at the vampire beside him. The man was beautiful with long black hair and blood red eyes. His skin wasn’t as pale as Sasuke’s, which the blond found odd. He was sure the Uchiha were a bunch of pale bastards with the exception of Mikoto. “Ah I must have your attention now,” the man grinned. Naruto didn’t say anything. He just stared at the other vampire with huge blue eyes. He could read auras like Sasuke had taught him to do and this vampire was ancient. Naruto didn’t even want to begin to guess as to how old the other one was. It scared the shit out of him. “I’m sorry to have been rude to you.” Naruto stated politely. “It’s quite alright. I was informed of your situation. I apologize for what my nephew Itachi has done to you. To have ripped you from your life so abruptly like that…well he will be punished severely for what he has done. And I know Sasuke is hard to deal with the best of times, but please don’t take his actions and words to heart. He has never been human so he doesn’t quite understand that the transition from human to vampire is a very painful experience.” Naruto could tell from the vampire’s tone that he actually knew what he was talking about. So the vampire either knew someone closely as a human and watched their transformation or he went through it himself. But the blond wasn’t about to be rude and ask that kind of personal question. His father had brought him up better than that. “I can tell you are curious about my experience. I went through the same experience as you. But back in my time, it was easier to let go of a human life since people died so young back then. Family didn’t grieve like they do today. It was expected to lose a child or two. So my family did not miss me that much. But it still hurt to lose something as precious as life.” Naruto stared in wonder at the older vampire. Why couldn’t Sasuke be more like this vampire, much more understanding and patience? It vexed the blond as to why the younger Uchiha vampire didn’t learn understanding from this vampire, whoever he was. “Ah I forgot to introduce myself I’m afraid. My name is Madara Uchiha and I will do whatever I can to help you young one.” Madara had actually moved from the bench, took Naruto’s hand and kissed it lightly. And Naruto knew that if had fed earlier that night, he would have blushing. No one had ever been like this towards him, so kind and considerate. Naruto wished that Sasuke had manners like this. “Uncle, this is certainly an unpleasant surprise.” Sasuke snarled as he entered the garden. Naruto jumped at the hatred that the younger Uchiha’s voice carried. He had never heard that tone before since he had been with Sasuke. And for some odd reason, it frightened Naruto. The blond backed away from Madara a few yards because he wasn’t sure if Sasuke was going to attack or not. He certainly didn’t want to be in the way if he did. Both vampires were powerful and who knew what kind of damage they would cause in a fight. “Ah Sasuke, I was just introducing myself to your little friend here. He certainly is beautiful nephew. I think I know the reason why Itachi couldn’t resist him.” A taunting smirk placed itself upon Madara’s lips. “You would do well to stay away from Naruto. He is my charge and I will not have you take him.” “Tut tut Sasuke. You know I don’t steal. Everyone comes to me willingly.” “No, you seduce them and then when you have them, you throw them away. But they are too ruined for everyone else and seek the true death. You will not have Naruto.” “I believe that is the decision of the young one. We’ll see who he turns to Sasuke.” Madara turned his attention to Naruto. “I bid you farewell young one. We will meet again.” Naruto blinked as Madara seemed to vanish into thin air. If he had been human he would have more than likely passed out. But since he was vampire, he would just stand still and gape at the empty spot. He had never known that vampires could disappear on will. He was very impressed with that skill. “Moron you are to stay away from my uncle. He’s dangerous and likes to play games.” Naruto’s head snapped towards Sasuke in anger. “Listen here bastard, you will not order me what to do. I will socialize with whom I want! You can’t control me!” “Is that why you’ve been pissy this whole week?” “Fuck no! If you would actually fucking pay attention you would know what’s wrong. But you’ve been ignoring me all week bastard! You will have to figure shit out on your own because I’m not fucking telling you!” Naruto ended his tirade by stomping past Sasuke and back into the mansion. He didn’t have the nerves to deal with Sasuke’s prissy ass right now. He wanted, no needed a hug from Mikoto right now. While Madara was sexy, there was something about the vampire that made Naruto’s skin crawl. He wasn’t sure if he would be able to resist the older vampire if he would attempt to lure Naruto into his bed. And that thought scared him because Naruto wasn’t attracted to Madara. He found Mikoto in the tea room having a discussion with Gaara. When the blond entered, she rose from her seat and engulfed Naruto in a hug. And for the first time that night, Naruto felt safe and relaxed. He knew that Mikoto had already adopted him as a son. And that really made him feel better. “What’s wrong?” “I met Madara.” Mikoto stiffened at those words. She knew the games that the older vampire played. She would have to warn Fugaku of Madara’s interest in Naruto. Hopefully her husband could keep his uncle away from them for a good while. Madara had a habit of ruining things for Sasuke and she would be damned if she let him take Naruto away from Sasuke. At least the blond vampire seemed afraid of Madara. That was a very good sign. “Madara is one of a kind. He is the beginning of our family, so he’s very old. He hasn’t taken a slumber in many centuries. And since he had been quiet these past few years, I had hoped he had taken one.” “What’s a slumber?” Mikoto pulled back and led Naruto to a chair. Both vampires sat down and Mikoto had Naruto’s full attention. “A vampire gets weary of its existence sometimes so it finds a safe place and sleeps anywhere from a few decades to a few centuries. Of course this greatly weakens the body so when the vampire wakes, it has to feed. That’s why it chooses a place close to a city to rest. But sometimes you have to be careful. If you sleep under the ground, there’s the chance that a building may be built on top of you.” “Sounds like it is more trouble than it’s worth.” Naruto grumbled. Mikoto laughed. “Yes actually it is. But some vampires swear by the slumber. They say that they feel more rejuvenated when they’ve taken a slumber.” “Oh, Sasuke never explained it.” “Because I haven’t gotten to it yet moron. Mother, Gaara could you please give me and Naruto a moment alone.” Mikoto and Gaara nodded their heads and swiftly left the room. With the two other vampires gone, the tension rose in the room. Naruto didn’t want to be alone with Sasuke, but he was curious as to what the Uchiha had to say. The blond pinned him with a questioning gaze. “I know I was never human Naruto and I can’t even begin to understand what you’re going through. I realize now what I’ve done wrong and I promise I will try to do better by you. All I ask is that since I will try better to understand you that you try better to understand me. I…want to be by your side through this whole ordeal.” Naruto gazed in wonder at Sasuke. He certainly wasn’t expecting this kind of apology from the other vampire. It was the fact that it seemed so human to the blond that he was able to forgive Sasuke. Naruto smiled as he approached the shorter vampire. “I want you there too Sasuke. This is scary shit and I need someone to anchor me. Will you be that anchor?” Naruto looked down into pure black orbs and saw a promise light them up. Before he could help himself, the blond drew Sasuke into his arms and placed a kiss upon the other vampire’s lips. It may have been just a chaste kiss, but Naruto swore he felt a part of himself meld with Sasuke. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
