So the majority of this chapter was written during a Christmas pudding induced high while hiding from my cousins so I apologize in advance if it just seems like one massive rant that goes nowhere.

He hadn’t spoken for hours, hadn’t slept when Sasuke made him lay down on his bed, and hadn’t eaten when there was fresh ramen sitting right in front of him. All the blonde had done was sit there and stare of into the distance as if he were seeing a world that no one else could and all the while silent tears continued in a steady trail down his cheeks.
He never wiped them a way though, never even gave them a second glance. It was if he wasn’t there. The only life Sasuke had seen out of him was when they had first arrived at his home.
By the time they reached Sasuke’s home the raven was beginning to regret having put the distressed Jinchuuriki on his back. It’s not that Naruto was that heavy it’s just that he was a complete dead weight. The Uchiha wasn’t used to carrying someone so totally unresponsive regardless of whether they we’re unconscious or not.
Climbing in through the open window Sasuke reached up end gently stroked Naruto’s hair again. He had acted out the motion several times during their short trip and was noticing it was having a calming effect on his breaking friend.
Well it’s no wonder, thought Sasuke as he began to manoeuvre the blonde off his back while walking toward his bedroom, if no one dared to touch you for half your life wouldn’t you enjoy every simple stroke or pat you were offered.
Sasuke frowned at himself as he toed open the sliding door of his room and berated himself for his thoughts. Naruto wasn’t a pet he was a person and he needed these touches right now and not only that but he deserved them. He deserved to be comforted just like every other human being did.
“Come on dobe I think you could use a rest,” Sasuke said to his silent blonde friend as he set him on the bed, “I’ll make you something to eat when you wake up and hopefully it’ll help you feel better.”
Naruto didn’t answer him; he just found something interesting on the floor to study and kept his head down.
Sasuke sighed and bit his lip, “I know you’re angry at me for attacking you but I had to see for myself and you wouldn’t have told me the truth if I asked you. Naruto you have to know that what Kiba is doing to you-even if it is sexual- isn’t okay. He could really end up hurting you,” the Uchiha could feel himself losing it as he spoke.
He didn’t know what it was about that ass-hat Kiba but whenever he heard his name all Sasuke wanted to do was be sick, or perhaps kill something. It wasn’t just what he was doing to Naruto, sure that was now a massive part of it, but there had just been a feeling since the first time they met that Sasuke couldn’t shake, a feeling that left him cringing and fighting to keep his dignity not take a step back or two.
“And I can tell,” Continued the Uchiha, lowering his voice to a whisper, “I can tell from the marks on your wrists that you certainly don’t enjoy it, at least not as much as you should.”
“Kiba has his demons,” Naruto said simply, trying to defend his lover, “and I have mine.”
Naruto lifted his head and dragged his gaze from the floor to finally look at Sasuke and the look in those big blue eyes of his made the Uchiha’s stomach drop. He’d only ever seen that look twice in his life.
The first time was when the obnoxious blonde had declared that he wasn’t going to lose to him and the second-
Sasuke swallowed the bile that was rising in his throat. The second time had been during THAT fight. The fight that had changed everything between them and given Sasuke a reason for existing other than his revenge, the fight where he had seen blue eyes shine with so much determination and love.
“Because this is the first time I’ve ever had a bond like this…”
Sasuke resisted the urge to sigh as he realised just how deep in Naruto was. Those words spoken so long ago were just as true now as they had been then and the raven haired shinobi knew from personal experience just how important Naruto’s bonds were to him.
This was going to be a fight, Sasuke realised slowly, and getting Naruto away from Kiba, getting him to finally see that their relationship was nothing more than Kiba using him was not something he could manage to do overnight.
Regardless Sasuke was in this for the long hall. Naruto had given him so much over so many years and he had never asked for anything in return. The least the Uchiha could do was at least try and save him from this mess he had fallen into and didn’t seem to want to get out of.
“Sasuke he accepts my demons so it’s only fair that I accept his,” the blondes arms tightened around his own waist as if he was trying to protect himself from something and Sasuke saw the look in his eyes waver for just a moment, “besides he always says sorry afterwards and he DOES feel bad about it. He just can’t help himself sometimes and that’s okay because sometimes I lose control of Kyuubi and everyone forgives me for that so I forgive him for this.”
There was silence in the room a moment before Naruto let forth a snicker and did his best to give his raven friend a mischievous grin, “and anyway Sasuke, what would you honestly know about what people enjoy during sex.”
The Uchiha blushed profusely and turned to the door, “like I said dobe, get some rest. I’ll wake you when food is ready,” and then he left, closing the bedroom door firmly behind him.
Sasuke pulled himself back to reality with a small sigh. He had honestly thought Naruto was coming back to him at that moment, that he was regaining some semblance of his normal self, but he had been wrong and if anything it had gotten worse.
Maybe I should have just left my suspicions alone, thought the Uchiha as he watched the blonde on his couch carefully, maybe I should have just watched and waited, not dragged it all into the open like this.
Whatever his reservations it was too late for him to regret his actions now. The cat was most certainly out of the bag and there was no way he could simply forget about it and pretend that he didn’t know what was going on behind closed doors.
The Uchiha grimaced, he could already feel a headache descending upon him, one person’s brain was just simply not enough to deal with this problem but getting help would mean betraying is friends confidence and possibly risking the whole damn business getting out which was most certainly the last thing that would be helpful right now.
No, this situation had to be dealt with delicately which meant there was really only two people that Sasuke could turn to.
“Sasuke I think I’m alright to go home now, or maybe we should go do the training that Kakashi sensei set for us, he seemed pretty set on it what with the big speech he gave and all,” it was just a mumble but it was there, a slight break in the seemingly lost demeanour of the blonde.
Sasuke began to shake his head before he realised that Naruto couldn’t see it from his position on the couch, “I’m not leaving you alone tonight dobe, and you’re going to stay here with me until I’m completely sure that you’re okay.”
“I’ll be fine Sasuke, I’m used to being alone when I’m upset,” Naruto dropped the tone of his voice “I’m used to being alone all the time,” but Sasuke caught it.
“Dobe we’re both ninja remember? My hearing may not be as good as Kiba’s but it’s certainly good enough to hear you when you mumble,” there was nothing in his in his voice to detect how uncomfortable he was with just saying the other shinobi’s name, “I want you to tell me what you’re really feeling when you’re feeling it, it helps.”
Sasuke saw the blondes lips curl slightly in a mock grin that looked more like a grimace as he rounded the couch to sit next to him, “Sakura told me something similar this morning before you showed up for training. She said that she wanted me to know that she was there for me,” he scoffed as if the mere thought of someone being there for him was ridiculous.
“She is there for you, just like we all are and like we’re always going to be,” Sasuke said trying to console him, “ I know you might not want our help but you’re going to get it and even if you do prefer to suffer on your own and act like everything is okay for the rest of us there are always going to be those people who know you well enough to see through that mask you wear, regardless of whether its holding strong or cracking around the edges.”
“H-how do you do it Sasuke,” questioned Naruto as he turned his gaze to the Uchiha’s face, “How does your mask stay so strong when mine just falls apart?”
Sasuke closed his onyx coloured eyes and sighed, deciding that this was one of those times where he had to be honest with himself. Opening them again he whispered something that he never thought he would say out loud, “Because I have you Naruto. I see everything you go through hell; I experience half of it with you, but no matter what you always have this unwavering resolve that I have always envied. I see that and I take strength from it. You make me realise that no matter how terrible things are at the moment that they can always get better if you just have the determination to stick it out,”
Sasuke moved his gaze from widening blue orbs to the burnt orange hues of the sunset he could see through his windows, “I wouldn’t have this mask today if it wasn’t for you, it would have broken without repair a long time ago and so would have I.”
Naruto couldn’t believe his ears and he stared dumbly at his raven haired friend for some minutes. Sasuke Uchiha envied HIM? It just couldn’t be possible.
But he knew Sasuke wasn’t lying. The Uchiha never lied; he didn’t see the point of it. Just ask him the right questions and you’ll get all the information you could possibly want but most of the time the right question wasn’t that easy to find.
Before he knew it Naruto felt his face splitting into an enormous grin, all sombre feeling forgotten for the moment as one of his hearts desires, one of his greatest dreams, was finally granted.
He’d known for a long time that Sasuke regarded him as a close friend and an excellent shinobi, as Lee would have put it, but to have him admit it out loud, to have him finally say that he needed Naruto and that he was important to him was something he had only dreamed of.
Meanwhile Sasuke, who was still staring stoically out the window, was beginning to fret at his blonde friend’s silence. He would have thought that, that little admission would have gotten a reaction and he didn’t care if it was good or something ANYTHING to let him know that the dobe was still in there somewhere.
Sasuke shifted slightly and snuck a glance at Naruto out of the corner of his eyes. What he saw made in turn fully to his friend to take in the sight and even made him almost smile.
That grin, that infuriating, optimistic and toothy smile way plastered to his dobe’s face just like it always used to be when they we’re younger and not only that but it reached his eyes, making them sparkle and causing the hollow dark circles under his eyes to fade.
For just a moment Naruto resembled the happy young shinobi he used to be, the immature kid that was seemingly untouched by the horrors of ninja life that he experienced on a daily basis.
But still it was only a hollow mocking of what he used to be. Sasuke wanted him back the way he was. It wasn’t enough that the shadows beneath his eyes had faded, he wanted them gone. He wanted that tanned face to be clean, not tear streaked. Without realising it Sasuke’s hand curled into a fist where it rested on his thigh and his expression became murderous.
Naruto’s smile began to fade around the edges as Sasuke’s face changed. One second the corners of his mouth were beginning to curl into a half smile and the steely onyx of his eyes was beginning to soften and in the next moment he was twisting into a pale urethral incarnation of rage and death that would inspire fear in the hearts of even the strongest of ninjas, maybe even Ibiki Morino.
Naruto however wasn’t scared, he wasn’t even worried. To people who didn’t know him Sasuke had two emotions, angry and indifferent but to those that did the Uchiha had many subtle branches of his emotions. You just had to know where to look.
So instead of seeing the rage in the raven haired shinobi’s eyes and hearing the cracking of his Knuckles as he balled his hands into fists Naruto saw the slight crinkle of his brow and the slight pull of the Uchiha’s bottom lip as he gnawed on it slightly, a habit that the blonde knew Sasuke was annoyed that he couldn’t break.
Naruto shifted to his knees on the couch and moved toward Sasuke before poking him in the forehead where the crinkle was, “Hey wants wrong?” he asked tilting his head so he could look at the Uchiha properly. He moved his finger down to Sasuke’s lip with a knowing smile, “what are you thinking about that’s got you so sad?”
Sasuke’s eyes widened a fraction as Naruto touched his face and he tried to ignore how close the blonde was. He tried to ignore the sensation of his best friend’s hot breath hitting his chin and the burning trail his finger left as it glided down his face to his bottom lip, but despite his best efforts the Uchiha felt himself beginning to harden and he was incredibly glad that Naruto’s limited attention was fixed solely on his face.
Naruto watched avidly as Sasuke’s expression changed right before his eyes to one he had never seen before. His lips parted slightly before his teeth bit down on his bottom one completely, pulling it into his mouth a little. And slowly, very slowly a soft pink blush spread across his cheeks.
He really is beautiful, Naruto thought absentmindedly as he watched the pink stain spread further across the ravens pale skin. I suppose I can see what Sakura sees in him. He's all whites and blacks. What did Iruka sensei call it again? Contrast?
Casually Naruto’s finger trailed up to trace the bridge of Sasuke’s nose where the blush had begun and then dipped down to his jawline, sketching out the sharp angles of his face.
“So you gunna tell me what’s wrong with you or not,” said Naruto quietly as he repeated his question from before moving his finger up to Sasuke’s ear and then back again to the edge of his chin where he had started from. Sasuke had never allowed him this close before and he was taking full advantage of it.
Sasuke however couldn’t have answered his friend even if he had wanted to. The only thing he could think about was the blonde before him and the things that he was thinking about were not entirely virtuous.
B-but I can’t do that to him, thought Sasuke as he tried to calm his racing heartbeat, that would make me just like Kiba. I h-have to stop this, I do.
As Naruto went to continue on his exploration to the opposite side of Sasuke’s face the raven grabbed his wrist to stop him but didn’t move it away from his face, choosing to relish in the feel of Naruto touching him at least a moment longer.
Naruto pouted as Sasuke stopped his motions and watched with disappointment as his friends features began to return to normal. He had really enjoyed that look on Sasuke’s face, it was something entirely new to him and he wanted to see it again to try and place an emotion with it.
“Hey guys,” an unexpected yet familiar voice chortled from one of the lounge room windows, breaking the tension and causing Sasuke to push Naruto away from him so hard that the blonde fell off the couch.
“What are you doing here Kakashi, and haven’t you ever heard of a door?” Questioned Sasuke trying to sound as disinterested and disgruntled as usual even though his blush which he was just managing to get a handle on returned with a vengeance and he was sitting in a rather strange position, trying to hide the problem in his pants from his old teacher and the blonde he had deposited on the floor.
“Damn it Sasuke you jerk that’s the second time I’ve ended up on the floor because of you today,” glowered Naruto as he propped himself into a crumpled but still technically upright sitting position on the floor.
Sasuke offered Naruto his usual silence as a an apology and the blonde took it while mumbling something about annoying arrogant people under his breath before he too turned his attention to the silver haired jonin that had arrived in the window.
“I just thought you two should know that Sakura finished the task I set for you guys today and since the two of you seem more interested in other things than completing it as well I gave her the prize. You guys however get to share the punishment for failing but that can wait till tomorrow,” Kakashi watched Naruto pale at the mention of a punishment since Kakashi’s punishments were usually mediocre mission related and Sasuke stiffened a fraction as well. He hated wasting his time on missions that could be given to lesser ninja.
“Still that’s not why I’m here. Sasuke I was wondering if I could have a word with you in private for a moment, if you’re not too busy with something else at the moment that is?”
Ignoring Kakashi’s jibes at the situation he had caught his former students in the Uchiha stood and made for the window, motioning that Kakashi should take the lead.
“Hey Sasuke you can talk in here if you want. I was about to leave before anyway so if you-“ Naruto cut himself off immediately as he saw the glare Sasuke shot him. Clearly he was very serious about not leaving him alone and the blonde thought it best to just go along with what the Uchiha wanted, deciding that the consequences of trying to leave were something he definitely couldn’t and didn’t want to deal with at that moment.
Once he was positive that Naruto had backed down and would indeed stay put Sasuke turned back to the window to see that Kakashi had already exited and was standing on a building several meters away and far out of Naruto’s earshot. The Uchiha also noted that out of all the surrounding buildings that Kakashi could have picked from the one he had chosen was quite cramped as it held a small water tower and was covered in various odds and ends that had most likely been deposited there by the buildings occupants.
Jumping out of the window on to the roofs of Konoha Sasuke quickly made his way to where Kakashi stood waiting for him, throwing a curious glance over his shoulder now and then to see if Naruto was watching or following. The raven was a little disappointed when he saw that his normally nosey friend was doing neither.
Grumbling slightly Sasuke turned his attention back to the task at hand. He couldn’t think of a reason why Kakashi would want to speak to him privately and even if he could Naruto was a trusted team member so what was so important that he was to be left out of the loop.
Perhaps he has another jutsu to teach me that he doesn’t want Naruto knowing about, like he did with the Chidori, thought Sasuke as he launched himself from another rooftop, or then again it might have something to do with Orochimaru. His three years in whatever body he had to take will be up in a little under twelve months and it’s quite possible that he could make another move to take my body again.
Sasuke dismissed his errant thought as he came to land on the rooftop that Kakashi was inhabiting. He would find out soon enough in the very near future so what was the point of worrying about it anyway. He had much more important things to waste his time thinking about, like a certain blonde problem that would hopefully still be waiting in his home when he returned.
“So what is it you wanted to talk to me about?” Sasuke demanded as soon as he landed. He had decided that he didn’t like being dragged away for some random reason, especially when Kakashi had entered his home so rudely.
Kakashi didn’t speak and as far as Sasuke could tell he didn’t smile, “Let’s go behind the water tower Sasuke, Naruto is hiding beneath the window we exited and sneaking a peek every so often.”
Smiling to himself Sasuke followed Kakashi behind the water tower obediently. He could just see the look that his blonde friend would be wearing as he watched the two of them disappear out of sight and the Uchiha knew that as soon as he returned to his home that Naruto would demand to know what was wrong.
Sasuke was so distracted by these thoughts of Naruto that he didn’t notice Kakashi produce a kunai from his pouch of ninja tools and tuck it into his sleeve and he also didn’t see the murderous look in the sliver haired jonin’s visible eye but once they were safely behind the water tower Kakashi made sure Sasuke knew all about it.
Sasuke didn’t even try to defend himself; he was too shocked by what Kakashi was doing and by how quickly it had all happened. One minute they were standing there like normal and the next Sasuke was pushed against the rough surface of the water tower with cold steel of a very sharp and very dangerous kunai at his throat.
Getting over the shock and coming back to himself Sasuke tried to move away from the insanely calm jonin, careful not to jostle the blade at his throat but he was quickly slammed back into the water tower with a force that made it creak ominously.
“Did you think I wouldn’t find out Sasuke,” asked the older shinobi calmly and quietly, “I honestly didn’t know you thought so little of my information gathering abilities,” his tone of voice came out slightly mocking as he thought about the training he had set for the day and the words that had just left his mouth.
The Uchiha frowned at his former teachers cryptic remarks. What was he on about?
“Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about Sasuke, I saw you. Your blade, the marks on Naruto’s body,” Kakashi said, feeling his calm façade slip to slowly be replaced by the anger and disgust he felt toward the young raven, “how could you do that to him Sasuke, after everything he’s done for you and everything you’ve seen him go through you, you still have the nerve to treat him like that?”
Kakashi let his eyes fall closed and he pushed Sasuke away roughly while shaking his head in disappointment, “I thought you of all people would have been different.”
Sasuke rubbed his hand against his throat and grimaced when he felt a shallow scratch against his perfect skin, “It wasn’t me,” the Uchiha said simply trying to clear up the confusion of the situation, “it was Naruto’s lover that did that to him and from the different stages of healing his body is in I can see its been happening for a long time.”
“Then why the blade?” asked Kakashi giving Sasuke stare for stare with his good eye, trying to discern whether or not the raven was lying to him.
Sasuke gave a mock laugh and smirked, “I got suspicions when he didn’t seem too worried about getting his neck healed and he wouldn’t tell me so I had to see for myself. It was really the only choice I had.”
“Who is it doing this to him then, I assume that this situation is the reason he’s been acting so out of sorts lately,” Sasuke didn’t miss the way Kakashi’s hand tightened around the kunai he was holding in anticipation of finding out who the culprit of Naruto’s sadness really was.
“It’s not my place to tell you Kakashi,” said Sasuke as he shook his head, “I wouldn’t even know if I hadn’t have been in the right place at the right time to see them together.”
Kakashi sighed dramatically and returned his kunai to its place, “What will you do about it then?”
“What can I do? I can’t go around killing everyone that makes Naruto unhappy though the thought has crossed my mind a few times in the last couple of hours,” Sasuke willingly admitted to the older jonin but his compliancy to offer personal information didn’t bother him when he was speaking to Kakashi as, though he would never admit it, he actually looked up to and respected the copy ninja more than he did any other person in his life.
“And what about your other problem,” queried the jonin with a small chuckle, “I assume you’re going to make your move on our dear ball of sunshine once you’ve removed his current partner?”
“W-what are you talking about ‘make my move’? I am not attracted to Naruto!”
Kakashi laughed out right at his former student, “your pants told me a different story when I came in through your window,” to avoid the death glared Sasuke was giving him Kakashi turned his back on him and began to walk off but not without some paring words, “You need to admit the truth Sasuke, if not to me then at least to yourself. You may not understand the feelings for what they are but you’re in love with Naruto and you have been for quite some time.”
Then pulling out his book Kakashi left the gaping Sasuke to stare at the spot where he had just been. His old sensei may only have one good eye but it missed nothing and the Uchiha sighed dejectedly as he realised that it saw things that he himself was reluctant to face.
