And when you’re with me if I close my eyes,
There are times I swear I feel like I can fly
When You Say You Love Me
- Josh Groban
She found him at Training Ground Three. He was currently working hard at turning one of his favorite training posts into a pile of splinters. Kick. Punch. Cut left, cut right, kick again. The anger radiated off of him in waves, it was palpable in the air.
She approached him slowly, deliberately crunching on the grass to announce her presence. “So, you heard then?” She asked quietly.
He didn’t speak. He simply nodded and kept kicking, punching.
She gave him another minute and closed the last bit of distance to him. She touched his shoulder, and he turned. The sight of her gave him pause. She was in a dress. Tenten in a dress. Her hair was down, around her shoulders and near her waist and he couldn’t see a single summoning scroll anywhere.
“Tenten?” Despite himself, his eyes moved down over the soft white satin that hugged her curves. The high Chinese collar suited her, as it always did. The fitted dress caressed her skin, flowing in one long beautiful line down to her feet. She stood with one hip cocked, her fist resting on it and it caused the split in her skirt to part so that he could see her toned athletic leg. He forced his eyes back up to her face.
“What is it? This is more than just Rogue-nin out and about causing problems.” She, too, did her own perusing. He’d filled out so much over the last couple of years. Where once he was a thin, sad boy, here now was a man. He was finally taller than most of his peers—though Neji still had a couple of centimeters on him in height. His face and eyes took on the look of someone who’d seen death. But he was still handsome to her.
His jumpsuit, that god-awful bright green jumpsuit hugged his muscles, and, she was embarrassed to admit noticing, certain other…things. But to her, those muscles showed how hard he worked so that he was good enough to defend the village. So that he could be a real member of the team. So that he could step in front of her, as he did, time and again.
He huffed and turned back to the post. Kick, punch.. “I was kept back here on purpose.”
Whatever he was about to say, she hadn’t expected that. “What?” she asked, puzzled.
“When news of the nin came in, I was sent on a mission,” he frowned, “on the other side of the village. As such, when Gai-sensei and Genma-senpai were collecting team members, I was not to be found. They left for the River Country before I could return.”
Tenten looked thoughtful. There was something here, but she had a feeling she would need to talk to the other women for it. She set it aside and stepped forward. Once more, she touched his shoulder. “Lee…”
He turned back to her. “Yes, Tenten?”
“Did you know that we—that is the other kunoichi and I capable of B and A rank missions were grounded. We are not to leave the village.” There was a tinge of bitterness in her voice that she couldn’t hide.
“What?” Lee seemed shocked. “Why?”
“Because of what they are doing to the women. And we - well, Tsunade thought it best to keep us back here because—” She blushed. Damn, there was no easy way to say it. “Because we’re virgins. She doesn’t want our first times…” she trailed off. She’d seen the understanding in Lee’s eyes and was grateful.
And then he did something very typical of Lee. He looked around. “But, Tenten, why are you here? Do you need me for something?”
Tenten sent a bid of patience up to her ancestors. They were, apparently, asleep. How the hell was she going to say this? “Well, I went out tonight with the other girls—Sakura, Temari, Hinata and Ino. While we were at the bar working on getting drunk, we decided to take away the reason for our grounding.”
She sent another prayer to her ancestors that he would understand without her getting more detailed. They must have woken up. “I see.” he said, nodding. He paused a minute, considering her. “And you came here…for me?”
She felt relief that she wouldn’t have to ask it outright. She nodded. “Yes. Lee—” She didn’t get to finish because his voice was suddenly loud enough to be heard in Suna.
“Behold the power of love and youth!” And he took their sensei’s patented nice-guy stance. She could have sworn she heard the ‘ting’. She couldn’t help but giggle. She heard a snort and saw one of Kakashi’s nin-ken a few yards away. He’d apparently tailed her to make sure she was okay. He nodded at her and poofed.
“Come on, big guy.” She grabbed his hand and headed out of the training grounds.
He’d insisted on carrying her. After they left the training ground and he’d realized she was wearing dress sandals, he’d picked her up and carried her all the way to her apartment building. She was loath to admit that she actually enjoyed it.
By the time they made it to her apartment door, however, she was beginning to get nervous. The concept was good, in theory. It was another, altogether, to actually carry through with it. She glanced over her shoulder at Lee as she fumbled with the lock on her door. She smiled faintly, acutely aware that she was blushing. She mumbled a “sorry,” and continued to fight with the lock.
A few seconds later, as she was about to break the door down, Lee took the keys from her and opened it with one twist. She huffed at herself. Before she could do anything else, however, Lee picked her up again and carried her into the apartment, shoving the door closed with his foot.
“We’re not getting married, Lee.” She laughed.
He glanced at her, but his eyes were serious. He set her down. “Okay. Why not?”
That stopped her dead. Married? She’d never thought about it. Good grief, she was a ninja, any mission she went on, she could come back in a bag. But, then again, he knew that, didn’t he? She blinked at him. “I have no idea,” she finally said.
“Okay,” he said, as if that settled it. And maybe it did. It was something she would have to think about later. Right now, she was on a different kind of mission and she had to get a grip on her nerves if she was going to carry it out. She had to know something first.
“Lee?” He hadn’t moved. She didn’t know why she called his name first. “Have you ever…” she trailed off, because he was already shaking his head.
“No. Gai-sensei wanted to take me to one of the resorts that does that kind of thing, but I did not want to.” He smiled at here, a much softer, personal smile than his normal one.
“Why?” She tilted her head. She’d known him for years, many years. She knew he spent way more time training or on missions, but this was something else.
He tried to shrug it off, but she wouldn’t let him. She poked his shoulder. “Lee…” she warned.
He looked back at her and said one word that turned her world upside down. “You.”
She stared at him, she couldn’t help it. She’d expected Sakura. She knew that he once had a crush on her. She’d been insanely jealous at the time, and she had no idea that he had changed his mind. “Oh,” was all she could say.
She turned to her living room, such as it was. It was little more than piles of weapons, scrolls, bottles of ink and brushes. There was a sofa of some disrepair and a small coffee table that was made up of two wooden boxes and a larger piece of wood set across them. She paused a moment, staring at nothing, then turned around and kissed him.
There could be no mistake about the feelings behind it. There could be no misunderstanding the intensity. And she never expected the kind of passion that he had in him. He put his all into everything - she knew that, everyone in the village knew that. But this kiss…
They broke apart. Breathing heavy, desperately trying to catch her breath, Tenten kicked her shoes off. And it gave her enough time to get shy again. She blushed.
Fortunately for her, Lee wasn’t so distracted. As soon as his shoes were off, he picked her up once more and went into the only other room in her small apartment. Her bedroom was as Spartan and cluttered as her living room. She knew a brief moment of embarrassment as her bed was still covered in clothes she’d considered, then discarded as she’d gotten ready for the evening.
He set her down and, to her surprise, cleared her bed in one sweeping motion. She couldn’t muster a care that her clothes were now all over her floor. Lee turned back to her, pulled her to him and his lips crushed hers again. She got lost in the feeling of his mouth moving over hers. Her hands went up and wove through his hair, holding him to her.
He kissed a trail down her neck, up to her ear and nibbled. She had a brief second of clarity and she spoke. “Lee?” It was barely a whisper.
“Yes, Tenten?” He whispered back, continuing to nibble at each little part of her ear.
Her mind went fuzzy again. “I—” She stopped. She couldn’t remember what she was going to say.
“I know,” he said.
This was not the Lee she somehow imagined when it came to sex. She somehow thought he’d be loud, boisterous, just like he was the rest of the time. But he was doing things to her body—soft, slow things—that made every nerve sing and her mind go blank.
“I do, too,” he said. She tried to remember what he was replying to, but his hand had cupped one of her breasts and coherent thought ceased.
She started kissing, touching, nibbling anything she could reach—his lips, cheeks, ear, neck. He cupped her bottom and pulled her against him and virgin or not, she knew what she was feeling. She gasped and pulled back to look at him.
His eyes intense, he lifted one hand and she felt her zipper being lowered. The collar loosened, then the shoulders. He was taking his time doing it, a seduction in itself. She felt the tiniest brush of his knuckle as the zipper made its way down her back. Then it was loose.
His eyes still on her, he pulled the dress forward and let it fall to pool around her feet. She had enough girl in her so that her bra and underwear were lacy. White, to match the dress, the cups of the bra were sheer and soft and Lee took the opportunity to touch the lace, feel the texture, the weight of her breast in his hand.
He brushed a hand down over her bare stomach as she stood there, teasing it, watching it tremble. Then, he walked around her in a circle, trailing his fingers until he stood behind her, one hand on a breast, the other tracing a line down her shoulder and arm, leaving a trail of fire in its wake.
His lips replaced his hand and he tasted her shoulder, her neck, kissed the sensitive inner part of her wrist and elbow. Such simple touches and she was having trouble standing. But she wanted to know him, too.
She turned around and examined the jumpsuit closer. There, down his back, was a hidden zipper. She pulled on it, stopped to untie the modified headband that he had tied around his waist, then lowered it the last couple of inches.
Slowly, deliberately, she took her time peeling it off of him. When he was free of it, it was her turn to taste him. She kissed his shoulders, down over his chest. She paused at the scar. It was extremely faint, but it was still visible. His surgery, after the chuunin exams, when she thought he was gone forever. She kissed it, just a brush of her lips, then she, too, went around to his back, trailing her fingers and lips over the hard planes and lines.
When she came back around to the front, he picked her up and she straddled him, kissing, touching. He flicked the hook on her bra and she could feel it, that skin to skin closeness. He turned, laid her on the bed and quickly stepped out of the rest of his jumpsuit.
More kisses, more touching and Tenten thought she’d go mad. Finally, her panties hit the floor and he was there. She was mindless, desperate for that indefinable more.
Lee paused, unsure of what to do next. Tenten leaned up and kissed him again and rolled with him. “Let me,” she whispered.
She straddled him and pushed herself down. It hurt, dear gods it hurt. But she would not stop. Lee looked tortured, knowing she was hurting, having no idea how to help her. She pushed further, determined. Then, in a brief push out of pure frustration, she was home.
Home. That’s exactly what it felt like as she and Lee stared at each other. She was sore, and as she waited for things to ease, he touched her face, ran a finger down her cheek. “I am sorry,” he whispered.
She smiled, a tear breaking loose. “It’s okay. It’s not your fault. I—”
He pulled her down for another kiss. He rolled them, then and reached between them, feeling for what he thought might help her forget the pain for a moment.
When he found it, she gasped and would have come off the bed, if he hadn’t been holding her there. “Lee!” she shouted.
He smiled. She was so beautiful in this minute it almost hurt, but then she started moving and he, himself, could no longer think.
The moved together, their rhythm natural, their hands touching, holding. She couldn’t hold it in and when he hit that spot inside of her again, she shouted his name over and over. A moment later, he followed her. He collapsed on her a moment, burying his face in her hair.
“Tenten,” he said. Just her name, but there was a wealth of meaning behind it.
She smiled, smoothing her hand over his head, down his back. “I love you, Lee.”
He leaned up and kissed her. “I love you, too.” They cuddled into each other and both let their minds wander to the future.
