Time seemed to be slower in Tartarus, for it seemed as though days had passed since the last time Naruto had opened his eyes. He was getting paler as if he were fading away. Disappearing from sight. And this time if he disappeared, he could never return.

Sakumo was cradling Naruto's head in his lap and he ran bony fingers through matted and knotty golden locks just to reassure himself that his Sunshine was still there. He loved the younger man that he had met under such gruesome circumstances but he knew he had to let Naruto go now, release him to his son. Sakumo felt like crawling into a ball to hide, he wanted to see his son but he didn't want to face him.

He could feel the Uchiha glaring at him, since the pink haired girl had left the raven hadn't said a word. He just sat there glaring daggers into Sakumo's back. Sakumo really wished that Sakura would hurry.

It was only a few hours later, that the pinkette arrived with her silver haired teacher. She stood aside to let Kakashi in to see the state the blond was in for himself.

Kakashi stopped in the doorway, watching in horror the state that his love was in. He didn't see anyone or anything else than Naruto in that small cell. He rushed forward and gathered the battered and broken blond into his arms. "Naruto...Naruto can you hear me?" He kissed chapped lips tenderly and stroked whiskered cheeks. "I'm here love, please come back to me! You and me forever...remember?"

Sunken in blue eyes fluttered opened staring at Kakashi for a moment. Could this be a dream? No...nightmares were the only thing this place provided. He reached out a dirty, emaciated, shaky hand towards the one he held most precious to him..."K-Kaka...shi...is...it...really...you?"

Kakashi closed his eyes momentarily to savor Naruto's light touch before opening them again. "Yes love, it's me. I'm here to take you home. We have forever in front of us but you need to wake up angel." Again Kakashi was crying, seeing his love like this was tearing his soul apart. "Come now angel, look at me...I love you so much!"

"Home?" Naruto's brows furrowed as he looked beside him at Sasuke and then at last Sakumo hiding in the corner, out of Kakashi's sight, "Sa...ku...mo...san...why..are...you...hiding? Come out...and...come...with...us..."

Kakashi's eyes flashed to the corner and saw the pathetic excuse for a human cowering there. White hair lay matted against pale, almost grey skin and you could see and count every bone on his scarred body. This was the white fang of Konoha? "D-dad?" Kakashi asked in a trembling voice.

"Please," came the timid and trembling voice from the corner of the cell, "Please don't look at me. I don't want you to see me like this."

The blond tugged at Kakashi's shirt weakly, "Ka...kashi...he...thinks...you...hate...him...tell...him...he's
...wrong...take...him...with...us..."

Kakashi's eyes traveled between his love and his father. "I d-don't hate you dad, I was angry at you for a very long time but I've never hated you." He crawled over to his father, touching the brittle body gently. "Naruto is right, come back with us dad, let us start over...as a family."

Sasuke looked at Sakura worriedly as he heard the souls making plans, he remembered Hades warning.

Sakura chewed her bottom lip, before speaking, "Kakashi...Naruto...we can only take the two of you...I don't think Hades will allow us to take a third."

The older silver haired man crawled over towards the blond, stroking his hair, and speaking sadly, "Don't worry about me Sunshine, I'll be okay..."

"NO!" The blond suddenly growled, weakly struggling to sit up and sit in the middle of the floor, "H-he goes with me...and Kakashi...Or I don't go at all..."

Kakashi watched his love defending his father with a mixture of pride and jealousy, the elder Hatake had been there for Naruto when Kakashi had been blissfully unaware of Naruto's suffering. Sakumo had made a mistake that much was true but he too deserved redemption. "I agree with Naruto, dad should come with us...He doesn't belong in t-this place. I couldn't leave knowing I left him behind."

Kakashi placed one hand on Naruto and one hand on his father, showing Sakura and Sasuke that they were a unit, take all or take none, it was that simple.

Sasuke glared at all of them, he wanted to save them but he didn't want to end up here in Tartarus. What were they going to do now?

Sakura thought a moment then glanced at Sasuke, "Sasuke...how are your chakra reserves? Do you think you could fight if you had to?"

Sakumo glanced between the pink kunoichi and the raven unsure of what they were thinking.

Naruto rose up until he was in a kneeling position, as sickly and emaciated and weak as he was, when he spoke his voice was full of determination, "I can fight."

Sasuke watched the dobe exclaim that he could fight when his whole body was trembling and he could barely stand on his knees. "Hn Usuratonkachi, leave the fighting to those better than you." He said with a smirk. Seeing Naruto he realized how much he'd missed the blond haired dobe. Sasuke looked back at Sakura. "I can fight."

"Me too." Kakashi said grimly. "I'm more than ready to kick some ass." He wanted nothing more than to punish the bastards that had done this to Naruto and to Sakumo.

"And so will I," Sakumo came closer to his son and his sunshine.

Sakura nodded, "Naruto, you're too sick to fight right now, and we appreciate your determination. But we are facing immortals and I want to try to avoid a fight if we can. Out of all of us, Naruto has the most chakra, however in his state, he shouldn't use it. Sasuke is second, so I'll need him to henge Oji-san into something small that we can carry in a weapon's pouch. Can you do that Sasuke?"

"Hn..." Was Sasuke's only reply as he measured Sakumo up before performing a rapid series of hand signs turning Sakumo into a small white rat. He picked up the small trembling animal and placed it in Sakura's pouch. Activating his Sharingan again Sasuke went out of the cell to look around a bit, he wanted to be prepared. Sasuke had a lot of chakra but he still wasn't completely healed so the longer they could avoid battle the better.

Kakashi bent down and swept Naruto up into his arms. "Hold on to me love," He said placing Naruto's thin arms around his neck. "This time I promise that I will never let you go!"

The life that had been gone from the blonds eyes had finally returned, and his bright smile reappeared once more, "I know, Kakashi, and I love you for that."

Sakura glanced over at Sasuke, "Anyone coming?"

Sasuke stuck his head back into the cell and shook it in negative. "No it's quiet...eerily so. It's like they're waiting for something...An order." He looked at his companions seriously. "We don't have any choice though, we have to take our chances and leave now."

Kakashi held Naruto tighter and placed a kiss on those sweet lips before moving out after Sasuke. Their footsteps echoing in the empty halls.

Slowly and carefully they reached the corridor where Sasuke and Sakura had entered. Sakura put a single finger to her lips as she made Sasuke take the lead and motioned for Kakashi to carry Naruto behind him. She then walked into the corridor herself, but her brows furrowed. This was too easy...were they getting assistance from a higher power, or were the immortals that guarded the place just waiting until they got to a vulnerable point and they would have to fight?

Sasuke walked first down the quiet corridor, just as when he and Sakura had entered the underworld he could see figures in the shadows, watching them with gleaming claws and fangs. Why weren't they doing anything? Shivers went down Sasuke's spine, this felt wrong.

Suddenly a tall grey haired man blocked their way, he had come out of nowhere. Sasuke hadn't seen him at all with his sharingan and it unnerved him.

"Well what do we have here? Four lost little lambs running straight towards the wolf." The man bared his fangs in a terrifying smile.

Sakura stood up to Famine defiantly, "We have spoken to Hades-sama about this, and he has give us permission to retrieve our friends, so long as they agreed to come with us." Sakura narrowed her green eyes at the demi god, "But we are prepared to fight for them if anyone gets in our way!"

"Sakura-chan..." Naruto looked at the pinkette in awe of her determination.

Famine walked forward to Sakura and licked her from jaw to eye with a long red tongue that reminded Sasuke of Orochimaru's tongue, he shivered in disgust.

"Little girl," Famine said. "You intrigue me and I look forward to playing with you. True...Father allowed you to retrieve souls from his kingdom...two of them. The one quaking in fear inside that pouch your carrying, little girl, that one belongs to me."

Suddenly the tongue that was licking her face was being crushed in her hand, "Don't fuck with me or I'll demolish you," She said in a very low growl.

Naruto's sunken blue eyes widened as he saw this then a sly smile appeared on his face, making him appear more of an angel despite his wounds and his sickliness, "Hai...I'd back off of Sakura-chan if I were you...she has the strength of the gods."

Famine's eyes flashed dangerously and clawed hands swiped at the hands holding his tongue. This girl was going to die and Famine would relish in drinking her blood.

Sasuke watched the scene unfolding with wide eyes. Sakura was amazing! If he hadn't seen it with his own yes he would never have believed that this was the same girl that used to follow him around begging him for a date. He rushed up alongside Sakura trying to make the demon look into his eyes. He didn't know if the sharingan worked on demons but it was worth a try. "Be careful Sakura, think of Iruka!"

Both Kakashi and Naruto's eyes widened at the mentioning of the gentle academy teacher, what did Sakura have to do with him?

Famine curled up into himself ready to strike...This girl would pay the price...No one made a fool of Famine, prince of the underworld.

"Hai, I know, I don't intend for this bastard or anyone else to kill us," Her emerald eyes narrowed at the grey haired man, as she pulled his tongue roughly pulling him towards her as she gathered chakra into her fist, "SHANNARO!!"

Famine flew backwards hitting a pillar and making it crack from the force of the punch, he wiped away the blood trickling from the corner of his mouth and eyed it furiously. The little bitch had made him bleed. Claws grew longer as he got ready to tear into flesh. With a voice that echoed through the halls he hollered. "STRIFE...I NEED YOU!"

"I'm afraid Strife is unavailable at this time," The dark haired raven stepped out of the darkness beside his younger brother.

Naruto whimpered softly in Kakashi's arms and clung to him tightly.

But Sakura was confidant that they would get out of this alive, especially when Despair winked at her.

"What do you mean?" Famine hissed. "These vermin need to pay for laying a hand on me. I want to bathe it that bitch's blood!" Famine was crazed with rage, that girl had humiliated him and he wanted her to suffer for it. "Don't just stand there fool!" He called to Despair. "Hurt them!"

Kakashi eyed the raven that stood beside his livid brother. This was the man that had taken Naruto from him. He wanted to hate the raven but something about him didn't seem sinister. He could hear Naruto's rapid heartbeats and held his angel tighter, he would never let him go. Kakashi met Despair's crimson gaze and regarded him seriously. Would the dark haired man help them?

"Why? They amuse me on how they can best a simple immortal," he smirked at the grey haired man before in one swift movement incapacitating him, "You lack compassion, Otouto."

Sakura stared at the unconscious grey haired man on the floor, and she glanced up at the raven, "This is the second time you've helped me. I can't began to think of a way to repay you."

"There is only one way you can repay me," He glanced up at the blond with softness in his red eyes, "Nurture the light, help it grow bright, and bring light and hope to your village once more."¨

Again Kakashi regarded the demon in front of them before bowing his head in gratitude. He saw the naked longing in the raven's eyes as he looked at Naruto and he understood it. The blond was amazing and Kakashi was still surprised that Naruto loved him back. He would dedicate the rest of his life to making his angel happy.

Sasuke's impatient growl alerted all of them that they had to move along. So with one last nod to the demon prince Kakashi hurried after the growling Uchiha down the corridor.

"Sasuke get out the dango for Cerberus. We're at the gate," Sakura was smiling and her eyes were bright with the thought that they would actually make it out and Naruto and Kakashi were coming home.

Sasuke reached into a pouch and grabbed the sticky pieces of dango that was left. Once again they tossed it to the snarling three headed beast and snuck past him as he was devouring the sweet treats. Sasuke felt his heart beat in his ribcage, they're were actually going to make it. They were bringing both his sensei and the dobe home, an almost invisible smile touched the raven's lips at the thought. Things were going to turn out fine. He heard the sound of water from the river Styx and he hurried his steps, beckoning the others to do the same.

Then Sakura came to a dead halt before they could reach the river. There standing in all his godly glory was none other than Hades. And by the look in his eyes he knew who the rat was in her weapon's pouch.

Naruto clutched his hands around his love tightly and his eyes were wide with fear. Who ever this was was really powerful, he could feel the power rolling off the man.

Hades regarded the group before him, they had done well and come much further than he ever had expected them to. He was silently impressed with their bravery. "As I recall we made a deal," The king said as he watched them with cold golden eyes. "I gave you free access to my domain so that you could find two souls. I warned you about other loved ones and what would happen if you took them. Now the souls go back to Tartarus, even the one from the Elysian fields. And your souls are mine...that was the bargain."

"Wait!" Naruto cried out, and forced Kakashi to put him on his feet, "You said they could only take two souls, ne? If I were to remain behind in Tartarus...would you allow them to go on...I am willing to remain behind in torment if my precious people can go free. Please Kami-sama...Let them go and take my soul in their place. I will suffer the torment for them all. Please." As Naruto spoke he prostrated himself on the ground before the death god.

Hades watched the small blond human throw himself before him in wonder. Such courage from such a battered soul. "You would do this in exchange for them?" The god asked ignoring the silver haired man's growls and attempts to get to the blond. "What you have gone through in Tartarus so far would be nothing compared to what you would have to endure. Four souls punishment wrecked upon you...Are you sure you could take it, never allowed one moments rest or peace knowing that you loved ones have to live with the guilt of leaving you behind. Are you that strong little human?"

"I would endure the punishment of a thousand souls if that meant protecting the ones that I love," Naruto spoke but did not get up from his place, "They are precious to me, and I would walk through the fires of Tartarus for them. I am strong enough to endure it. Please let them go."

"Hades-sama...the young girl has spoken true and this truly is the light of Konoha," Persephone appeared beside her beloved, "His heart is brave and his soul, once thought broken, is unbreakable. He doesn't belong here, but we should reward him for his willingness to sacrifice himself."

Hades watched is queen. "What kind of reward are you thinking of love?"

"Let them pass out of the underworld, and give their dead life," She smiled softly, "As for I, I to have a gift for the light of Konoha." She smiled at the blond softly as she stood beside her beloved.

Hades golden eyes softened as he watched the blond. "For your bravery and your bravery alone, as well as your shining soul I'll let you go." The king of the underworld stated, looking directly at Naruto. "Take care of your second chance, live your life spreading that light of yours. Next time we see each other I do not wish it to be in Tartarus... Live life well little human and go with my blessing." Hades touched Naruto's head softly and healed most of his wounds.

"And for my gift, I give you the ability to give life," She kissed the blond on his forehead, "Take great care of this gift. For it is one of love and an ability no mortal man has."

Teary blue eyes, still slightly sunken in, but not as badly as before he was heal glanced back and forth between the pair, "Thank you, both of you, for letting me keep my treasures."

The ruling pair of the underworld vanished leaving the Konoha shinobi alone at the harbour dock. Kakashi ran forward and kissed Naruto deeply. "You stupid baka, you almost made my heart stop! We said forever didn't we? I would never have left knowing you were here, suffering." Kakashi gently touched Naruto's flat stomach with a shy smile. "I love you so much Naruto...You are my soul."

"I love you, too, Kakashi," The blond held the man close and spread kisses all around his face, finally placing one on his lips, kissing him with all the passion he felt for the man.

Sakura wished that they could allow the two to have a moment together longer but they needed to go, "Sasuke, you have the coins now right? Could you give Naruto and Kakashi a coin so we can cross the river?"

Sasuke dug through his pockets and fished out the golden coins he handed Naruto and Kakashi one each and again they were waiting for Chiron to show up. Sasuke watched as Kakashi held Naruto's hand tightly refusing to let go. He expected to feel jealous but he found that he felt nothing but happiness that his sensei and his teammate had found each other.

Chiron ferried his boat to the docks and watched the group of people standing there with surprise. "Well I almost can't believe it, you got Hades to yield." The ferryman waited until they had paid him before letting them into the boat. "You know, it isn't often that I ferry people out of the underworld." The chestnut haired male told them offhandedly. "Change livens things up and as long as I get paid I don't mind the work."

Sakura let out a soft sigh of relief when she sat down in the ferry. She couldn't wait to show Iruka what she had accomplished. He was sure to be happy, but she hoped that he could forgive her for lying to him.

Naruto lay his head on the silver haired jounin's shoulder. He felt a tinge of excitement as they started crossing the river, "So when we get back to Konoha...what do you want to do?"

Kakashi wrapped his arm around the blond. "The first thing I want to do is take you home, bathe you so you're free from all this grime. Then I want to lay you on my bed and make love to you for hours...until you can't even remember your own name. I want to claim you Naruto." The copy nin kissed his angel to show him how serious he was. The kiss was filled with love, heat and possessiveness.

"I don't think so," Sakura said firmly, which meant she was in mother hen mode.

"Sakura-chan," Naruto turned to her with big blue puppy eyes, "Cut him some slack, I'm sure he knows I need to heal some before we do anything, right Kakashi?"

Kakashi nodded with an almost sorrowful expression on his face. "Maa I said it was what I <i>wanted</i> to do. Of course I'll let him heal...I want my kitsune healthy when we ...errr...take things further." Kakashi scratched his head. "Besides I don't know if my home is still standing after the battle with Pein...Do I have a home? How do things work when you have been dead?" Kakashi then got an evil gleam in his grey eye. "So Sakura-chan...What's this Sasuke mentioned about you and Iruka? Has my little girl grown all up?" He teased.

The pinkette turned bright red, and averted her emerald eyes. She wasn't ready to tell them about her and Iruka just yet, "Y-you'll see when we get home...Sasuke give them both some dango so they'll shut up please."

Iruka paced the small apartment tidying things that didn't need to be tidied, he wanted the place to be clean and nice for Sakura when she came home. After reading the books she had checked out his worry had grown, all those trials the people in the books were put through...He didn't want to imagine what could happen to his love. Suddenly it felt as if he would suffocate in the apartment, he needed fresh air and a chance to clear his head. With one last look around the place to see that everything was in order if Sakura should come home, he closed the door behind him and ventured out on the streets of Konoha. He wanted Sakura back...

As the four of them ventured towards the village gates, Naruto's brows furrowed. After they found that Sakumo was missing and that the way to the river Styx had been sealed off, they thought they had been tricked. Until Naruto had a dream. In this dream, Persophone had come to him and told him that Sakumo was still with them but instead of being given the life of an old man, he would be given a new life through the blond. That's when he realized that the power to give life was that he had the ability to produce children. He had only told the others that Sakumo was fine and was alive and well...but he didn't say how.

Kakashi had been sad when he found out Sakumo was missing, he wouldn't get that second chance with his father. He trusted Naruto when he said that Sakumo was alive and well though, that was more than he could hope for. Kakashi saw the gates before them and part of him grew anxious, what would happen and what would their reception be? Would they be welcomed back or treated as monsters for cheating death. He could take it but he refused to let Naruto get hurt by this village again. His back tensed and he grabbed Naruto's hand as they were upon the gate.

Naruto's lithe and emaciated body was covered by Sasuke's white yukata top, he clutched it closed in his free frail hand as he leaned against his lover and squeezed the copy nin's hand. It would be strange to tell his love that he would soon become the father of the one who had fathered him. But the world they had come from was strange. And also, the good part about coming back to life was he no longer housed the Kyuubi. That was a sort of relief...Akatsuki couldn't come after him now since the bijuu no longer existed in the living world.

Iruka was walking towards the gate as he did every day when his eyes caught the group of people walking to the gate from the forest beyond. Sakura...it was Sakura. The teacher hurried his steps and then he saw Kakashi and Naruto...She did it! She'd managed to bring her precious people home. Iruka abandon all posture and ran towards the pink haired girl, wanting nothing more than to embrace her and tell her how proud he was of her.

The moment the pinkette saw the brown haired chuunin, she started racing towards him, the cold air making her eyes water as she rushed towards him. Naruto smiled softly to himself as he watched her jump into Iruka's arms, glad that the two of them had found love in each other. He glanced up at the copy nin before resting his head on the older man's shoulder.

Kakashi also watched the sweet moment between his teammate and the academy teacher with tenderness, he was happy for Sakura but that didn't mean he wouldn't tease her. The silver haired man smirked to himself at the thought.

Iruka caught Sakura as she jumped into his arms and held her tight. She fit so well into his embrace, it was where she belonged. "You're finally home," He said as he kissed away the tears from her cheeks. "You did it Sakura, you brought them home...I love you."

"I love you, too." She sighed happily before kissing him passionately, her arms encircling his neck, "I'm so glad to be home and in your arms. I'm sorry I didn't tell you what I was doing...but I didn't want to see you get hurt."

The blonde's smile widened when Sakura was in the brunette's arms. "They look so happy together. I hope we all stay like this forever."

Iruka kissed her back greedily. "I understand why you did it. It hurt when I woke up and found you gone but you're back now and I just want to keep holding you like this." He looked over Sakura's shoulder and saw Naruto and Kakashi walking towards them hand in hand. Iruka's chocolate eyes teared up. "Welcome back <i>little brother</i>, don't you dare to leave us like that again!"

Sasuke watched all the exchanges of love with empty eyes. There was no one in this village who would welcome him home and yet he had nowhere else to go. He would accept what punishment the council saw fit to give him, his days as an avenger were over.

The young blond glanced over at Sasuke then reached a hand out to him, "Comon, Teme! Do you really think we'd leave you out?"

Sakura glanced back at Sasuke and extended her hand as well, "Yeah, Sasuke, you're part of this family too."

Sasuke looked at both their outstretched hands like they were poison before silently uttering a "Hnn" and grabbing the hands in his pale ones. A small smile upon his lips. Looks like he still did have a family after all.

The guards at the gate watched the group with bulging eyes and jaws on the ground. They didn't know what to think. "Q-quick someone c-call Hokage-s-sama!" One of them yelled out. Kakashi couldn't help but smirk at their stupefied expressions. He had his angel beside him so to him all was right with the world.
