Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: Sorry, I know it's been taking forever to get chapterson these stories. Lots of personal
issues that I'm sure no one wants to know about have been eating up my time or making me really not feel like writing love. Very conveniently, this is the last of the 'aww' chapters for a while. Maybe that means I can write faster.
Chapter Five
Itachi paced the kitchen while Naruto showered. He hadn't slept well the night before due to his constant worry for his boyfriend. He sighed. They had only been together for a little over a year now, but he knew there was no one for him but Naruto. He had planned on giving Naruto a promise
ring for Christmas, but now he was thinking it might be smarter to do it now. Christmas was still almost a month away, and with what happened last night, he couldn't help the possessive streak
compelling him to show his ownership of the blonde beauty.
He sighed and went back to preparing the French toast he was making for breakfast. He was making Naruto a special breakfast and giving him his present this morning. That was all there was to it. It wasn't as if he didn't have enough money to buy something for Naruto for Christmas as well. He smiled when he thought of Naruto wearing a ring that was a promise for them to belong to only each other forever.
Itachi turned when he heard footsteps enter the kitchen. He saw Sasuke and Anko walking
together and talking about something as they entered. "Sit down, guys. I'm just about done cooking."
Anko sat at the table with Sasuke next to her. "I didn't know you Uchihas cooked. I thought for sure you'd have someone bring it in to you."
Sasuke smirked. "'Tachi's kinda like a chick though. He makes sure this snot-nosed brat is well fed, clean, and clothed." He smiled softly at Itachi. "He's a really good brother."
Itachi smiled back at Sasuke before his mind went back to the blond. He could still hear his shower running. "Good thing we're rich or Naruto's showers would break us." He couldn't help the words in his head coming out of his mouth. Anko and Sasuke just chuckled. Itachi shrugged almost helplessly before turning back to the food and making sure it didn't burn. "I'm thinking about giving it to him today."
Sasuke nodded at Itachi's back. "Because of Sai's stupid stunt?"
Itachi tensed visibly at the mention of the previous night's events. "Mostly. I want people to know that if they mess with my boyfriend they mess with me. I plan to marry him one day, you know." He sighed and let his shoulders slump. "You know it"s possible to be addicted to that stuff after just one dose. We're really going to have to watch Naruto, and I'm going to have to tell Iruka what happened."
Sasuke frowned. He knew Itachi was right, but he could see Iruka reacting unreasonably and
forbidding Naruto from spending time with Itachi. Which he then saw escalating into Naruto
saying something to Iruka and leaving the house. He was definitely worried, but Itachi was
right; Iruka needed to know in case Naruto had developed an addiction. "You want me to go with you guys?"
Anko smiled and put her hand over Sasuke's. He really could be caring when he wanted to be. "You know, I work at an addiction clinic. If you guys need anything, you let me know okay? I've gotta be getting home. Thanks for the night, Sasuke. It was fun." She leaned over and kissed his cheek.
Sasuke blushed. "Thanks for understanding when we had to leave." Anko nodded. Sasuke stood and walked her to the door. When he came back Naruto was sitting at the table with his eyes closed, head against the table, and arms hanging limply below his body. Sasuke smirked. It was time to make sure Naruto never wanted to do that willingly. He sat down beside his friend. "Have a good time last night, Naruto?"
Naruto groaned. Itachi came to the table with the plates of food. "I'm sorry about Sai, Naruto. I called Madara and I can assure you it won't happen again." He set a plate down in front of Naruto and Sasuke before sitting on Naruto's other side. "Eat. I know you don't feel like it right now, but trust me okay?"
Naruto nodded and forced himself to sit up. He looked ragged. He couldn't have slept very much, and it obviously wasn't very restful. He put the food on his fork and got it to his mouth before he dropped it back down and stared at the food with disgust. "I can't eat, 'Tachi. I want to, but I
can't."
Sasuke sighed and pushed Naruto's fork into his mouth. "If Itachi said eat, you need to eat. Don't fucking make me force feed you. I know you didn't put the shit into your own mouth, so I'm not angry with you, but 'Tachi's trying to make sure you don't get sick, so do what he says!" Sasuke snapped at his friend.
Naruto chewed the food and looked at Sasuke in apology. He knew he screwed up. He should never have swallowed whatever was in his throat, but it was far enough down that it was his body's natural reaction. He turned his head and glanced at Itachi who looked very upset that he'd let something happen to him. "'Tachi, it's not your fault. You couldn't have known." He looked back at Sasuke. "I know, Sas. I'm going to eat, okay. You guys stop worrying about me now, okay?"
Sasuke frowned at the hurt tone to Naruto's voice. He rubbed his temples, "Naruto, I'm not mad
at you or disappointed in you. I just don't want you to get sick, and I don't know enough about this. I know that 'Tachi is just doing what he can to help you."
Naruto nodded as he had some more of the French toast Itachi had given him. Itachi sighed and turned to Naruto. He laced his fingers with Naruto's as he pulled his boyfriend close to him. "I'm so sorry, Nar. I didn't mean for this to happen. I love you so much." He sighed softly. "There's a chance you could all ready be addicted. I have to talk to Iruka."
Naruto dropped his fork. "No, you can't. If you talk to Iruka about this, he'll make me break up with you. He'll tell me that I can't come over here anymore or go out with you. I don't want that, 'Tachi. I love you. I don't want Iruka to know. I'm fine now; I promise. Please, 'Tachi. Please don't let him take you away from me." Naruto had tears streaming down his face as Itachi pulled him closer to his body.
Itachi shushed Naruto gently. "Baby, it's ok. Even if he forbids you from seeing me, it's only a matter of months before you're out of their house. Keep in mind they love you though. They want you to happy. We all do. Which is why I have to tell him what happened. He should know from us rather than find out some other way."
Naruto sniffled. Itachi was right. Itachi was always right. He was calm and collected and Naruto knew that Iruka wanted his happiness. "Okay, 'Tachi. I have to do my homework with Sasuke
first. Then you can come back to Iruka's with me and we can talk to him. He's going to be so disappointed in me. How could I do drugs?"
Itachi sighed softly. "You didn't baby. Sai is a bad, bad person. If I had known he was at the club, I would never have let you go outside alone. I would have told you to wait for me and we'd go out together. He never would have tried something so stupid if I'd been with you. If it's anyone's fault; it's mine."
Naruto leaned up and captured Itachi's lips in a soft, sad kiss. "No one's fault then. I just hope Iruka understands."
Sasuke sighed. "You guys always forget I'm here, don't you?" Naruto chuckled softly but shook his head. Sasuke smiled softly before continuing. "Iruka is a good man, Naruto. Have faith in him, all
right."
Naruto nodded and finished his breakfast. When he was done, he went to work on his math and English with Sasuke. Naruto couldn't sit still. He was anxious over how things were going to go with Iruka. He really didn't want to lose Itachi and especially over something that Itachi didn't have control over. He sighed again. Sasuke frowned and grabbed Naruto's hand. "Go home and get it over with. Just this once I'll do your homework for you, all right. I hate seeing you this upset."
Naruto smiled and hugged Sasuke tightly. "I love you, Sas. Thank you so much. Please be online later. I think Iruka is going to kill me over this."
Sasuke nodded. "Of course, Nar." He pushed Naruto away slightly. "Go on. Leave your bag here and tell Iruka you left it on accident. Come by and get it on your way to school on Monday."
Naruto nodded. "Thanks, Sasuke." He stood and headed to Itachi's room. He pushed the door open slowly, but still quickly enough that he saw Itachi hurrying to brush away tears. Naruto frowned as he crawled into Itachi's lap and brushed the last few clinging tears away. "I'm sorry, "Tachi. I love you.
Don't cry okay?"
Itachi smiled. "I love you." He slid his hand under his pillow and handed the box to Naruto. "In case Iruka doesn't want you to see me after this, I want you to have this now."
Naruto smiled when Itachi opened the box to reveal a sleek, silver band. "What is it, 'Tachi?"
Itachi couldn't help himself. "I thought even you would be able to recognize a ring when he saw one." Itachi chuckled softly when he saw Naruto's glare of indignity. "Sh, baby. It's a promise ring. This was supposed to be your Christmas present, but after last night and now having to tell Iruka," he paused and swallowed against the lump forming in his throat, "I just want you to have it."
Naruto couldn't help the tears that ran down his cheeks. He slid the band onto his ring finger. "I'll never take it off, 'Tachi. I'm yours forever." He cupped the cheeks of the man he loved before taking Itachi's mouth in a passionate kiss. After a few minutes Naruto pulled back. "We should go. I'll call you tonight, whether or not Iruka tells you not to see me anymore, okay?"
Itachi nodded as he stood and grabbed his jacket from the chair he had tossed it on. "Okay, Nar." The drive was silent as they headed towards Naruto's house. Itachi had picked the boys up from school on Friday and had planned on giving them both a ride on Monday. Naruto had walked to school with Sasuke, and he was nervous that these things that had become so calming and
routine in his life would be taken away by one stupid mistake. He looked over at Itachi as they pulled up in front of his house to see Itachi wiping one last tear from his eye. "Let's face the music, Naruto."
Naruto nodded. "I love you, 'Tachi." They walked hand-in-hand up the walk. Naruto pushed the door open. "You guys home?"
Iruka poked his head around the kitchen door. "In here. I'm doing dishes. What's happened?" He held the door open as the two guilty looking young men headed toward the table.
Itachi sighed. "Something happened last night and you needed to hear it from us rather than through the grapevine." He sat down at the table and took his ponytail down again. Naruto grabbed his hands to still them and put Itachi's ponytail back up for him. "Is Kakashi here? We should really all talk about this together."
Naruto sighed and buried his head in Itachi's chest. Iruka was really worried. They were acting like they'd never get to see each other again, and Iruka didn't like that whatever they were going to tell
him had them worried he'd separate them. "Yeah, just a minute." Iruka disappeared up the stairs toward the bedrooms. When he came back, Kakashi was at his heels with his hand laced with Iruka's supportively. They sat down on the other side of the table from Naruto and Itachi. "So, what's this about."
Naruto fidgeted with Itachi's fingers before he finally looked up at his dads. "Something happened while we were out at the club last night."
Itachi noticed Naruto's voice failing him and took up the story. "I'm so sorry, Iruka. I let Naruto out of my sights and a distant cousin did something despicable. I'm afraid that Naruto was given some ecstasy last night." Itachi dropped his eyes to Naruto's and his joined hands. He didn't want to look up and see the look of disgust on Iruka's face for what he let happened to Naruto.
Kakashi spoke first. "Here I thought you were going to say that the two of you robbed a bank or something." Itachi looked up. The confusion was clear on his face. Kakashi smiled. "While what you are telling us is serious, it's obvious it wasn't something you wanted to happen. You have come here, like mature adults, to tell us about it. So you can stop worrying about our splitting you up."
Iruka chuckled softly before his eyes turned serious. "Naruto, you shouldn't take things that you
don't know what they are, even if they are from Itachi's relatives."
Naruto huffed, indignant at the memory of Sai forcing the small pill down his throat. "I didn't take
it. It was forcibly shoved down my throat by that bastard's tongue."
Iruka's face contorted with rage. "Did you do anything about that, Itachi?"
Itachi nodded. "Besides nearly beating him, I called my uncle and told him to keep him away from Naruto. I told my uncle that if they don't leave us alone, we will have nothing to do with them. We shouldn't have any more problems."
Naruto smiled cautiously. "Does this mean you aren't forbidding me to see Itachi again?" Iruka nodded and Naruto visibly relaxed before beaming at his father. "Then I should show you what Itachi gave me." Naruto held up his hand to show the promise ring.
Iruka sniffed away some tears. His baby boy was growing up so quickly, and despite the fact that it was with Itachi that Naruto first got drunk and was exposed to drugs, he could tell that wasn't what the young man in front of him wanted and couldn't think of a better match for Naruto. "You're not going to leave us, right?"
Naruto shook his head. "How could I ever leave such loving parents? I mean, before high school is over of course. When school is done, I will be leaving you, but I'll never stop loving you."
Itachi closed his eyes for a moment. He knew there was conversation going on around him, but he wasn't listening. He had been so worried that Naruto would no longer be able to see him. He sighed internally. He couldn't help but think that this went too well. His world wasn't about getting things easily, despite what anyone else might think. He looked up when Naruto rubbed his arm. "Hm?"
Naruto smiled. "I asked if you wanted to stay for supper here or go back to Sasuke."
Itachi smiled. "I should probably go back to Sasuke. Why don't you stay here with your dads?" He smiled and gently kissed Naruto. "I have some things to take care of anyway. Sasuke and I will be by to pick you up on Monday morning."
Naruto smiled and tugged Itachi up by the hand. "Okay." He pulled Itachi through the kitchen door while lacing their fingers.
Iruka sighed and hung his head. "Kakashi, some things about Itachi and Naruto make me so nervous."
Kakashi nodded and rubbed Iruka's back soothingly. "I know, 'Ruka. Still, he's an adult and the choices he makes are his own. It was obvious to me that Itachi is really upset with himself for letting anything happen to Naruto. I think Itachi's good for Naruto."
Iruka sighed and glanced up at Kakashi. "I know. And it seems that Naruto is good for Itachi. I just worry about him, a lot. He's my baby. He always has been."
Kakashi smiled. "He always will be. I see him and Itachi getting married someday and having wonderful adopted children of their own. Our house will always be filled with children, 'Ruka. I don't think you have to worry about that."
Iruka looked into Kakashi's eyes and smiled. "'Kashi, you're the absolute best." He leaned over and kissed his partner's lips softly. He broke the kiss when he heard Naruto making a fake gagging noise. He shook his head at his son. "Want to help me make supper tonight?"
Naruto smiled and sat down in the chair next to Iruka. "Sure." He sighed and twirled the ring around his finger absentmindedly. "I love him, a lot. It's kind of scary, you know. How did you two know you wanted to spend forever with each other?"
Iruka smiled at Kakashi before turning his attention back to Naruto. "Honestly, Naruto, I never
pictured myself spending eternity with Kakashi until well after our relationship started. I thought he was a playboy and would just hurt me. It turns out, his reputation was not deserved and after nearly five years of proving himself to me, I realized I couldn't picture my life without Kakashi in it. He was always there when I woke up in the morning and when I went to sleep at night. When I pictured family holidays, he was there. When I pictured being sick, he was the one taking care of me. It just
didn't make sense not to have him there."
Kakashi squeezed Iruka's hand. "How serious are you about Itachi, Naruto?"
A sappy smile spread across Naruto's face. "I've never felt this way in my life. I feel like I can trust him with anything. I hate the thought of hurting him. I hate the thought that I could cause him some kind of sorrow. I'd do anything he asked of me, so long as it was not dangerous, just because he asked. I'd stop eating ramen for him."
Iruka chuckled. "There's your answer, Naru. You know what you want from him, but you have to take it slow. Let it develop at its own pace. You still have college to think about."
Naruto smiled. "Thanks, guys." He stood up and waved. "Call me down when you're ready to make supper, dad. I've got some things to take care of before then." He took the stairs two at a time and plopped down at his computer desk. He signed onto his IM before starting up his music on random. He smiled as #1 Crush by Garbage started playing.
He pulled up the story he was working on that had been taking up most of his time that he wasn't doing homework or spending time with Itachi. He wanted to be a novelist. It had been his dream since he had first picked up a book to escape the reality of his foster homes. This story was about a boy coming to terms with his sexuality and meeting the man of his dreams only to find he was haunted by demons, literally. The man had been a servant of hell that had escaped on a fluke, and was now on the run from those who would return him. The boy must decide whether or not he finds the love of his life worthwhile while the man is trying to find a way to strike a deal with heaven to be free of hell once and for all.
Naruto looked up at the sound of someone sending him a message. He smiled when he saw Sasuke's face staring back at him from the window. How come you didn't come back with
Itachi?
Naruto frowned. He'd sensed that Itachi had needed space and was more than willing to grant his
boyfriend what he needed. 'Tachi needed some time. Keep an eye on him for me?
Yeah sure. I asked Anko out for next weekend. Kind of nervous.
Naruto smirked. He was glad he hadn't ruined Sasuke's chances at love. Cool. Look, I'm working on a story right now. Call you later?
Yeah. Don't worry about Itachi. I've taken care of him long enough to make sure he stays out of trouble. Love ya!
Naruto smiled as he closed the window. He turned back to his story and worked. He had a fresh set of ideas and put them in the outline before actually writing the action and dialogue. He'd only just finished jotting down his ideas in the outline before Iruka was hollering up at him to come down.
Naruto smiled as he bounced into the kitchen. "What are we making?"
Iruka chuckled. "Nothing big. Just some hotdogs and burgers on the grill. I figured it was a nice winter day, and we might as well grill out."
Naruto nodded. They made supper quickly. When they were finished they sat down with Kakashi and talked about recent developments in their lives. Naruto couldn't fight the urge he was feeling to go back out tonight. When they finished eating he went back to his room and signed into his
IM again.
Naruto realized he hadn't hung out with any of his other friends much at all in the last month. He had gotten even more attached to Itachi, and it probably wasn't good for him to spend all of his time with Itachi. He saw Neji online and smiled. Neji was a year older than him, but had become a good friend. He wondered if his friend was home from college this weekend. You home this weekend?
Naruto waited for a few minutes before Neji replied. Yeah, you have something in mind?
Naruto smirked. He thought a trip to a certain nightclub would really lighten his mood. You
heard of 'Indigenous'?
It's impossible to get into. I'd love to go though.
Naruto couldn't help but laugh a little. It was impossible if you weren't dating the owner's nephew. Get ready. I'll be over at a little after 9. We'll get in. Don't worry.
Naruto turned off his IM without waiting for Neji's response. He knew Neji would go. He couldn't understand his need to go back to Madara's club, but he really wanted to go out. He wanted to see Neji's reaction to the place. He quickly showered and dressed before heading downstairs with his helmet. "Iruka. Kakashi! I'm going out with Neji," he hollered up the stairs. "I should be home by 3 at the latest. I love you!"
He didn't wait for a response before heading out the door while strapping on his helmet. He knew
Neji had a bike and wouldn't need a helmet, so Kyuubi was okay to take. He slid onto his bike and started her up. He never got tired of the sound of the bike growling in excitement to take to the road. He found himself at Neji's at exactly 9:00 and parked his bike. Neji hadn't gotten a chance to see her yet. Naruto ran up the walk and rang the bell at the massive house. At first, Neji's wealth had intimidated Naruto, but it was easy to forget about once you got to know Neji himself.
Neji opened the door with the brush still in his long brunette hair. "Come in. I'll be ready in about five minutes." Naruto followed Neji into the house and smiled at the comfy atmosphere of the place. You'd expect the place to be as cold as almost all of the Hyuuga family was on the outside, but it was actually warm like their hearts, even if they rarely let anyone in.
Naruto smiled as he made his way up to Neji's bathroom. Neji's father had died when Neji was young, but his uncle had taken him in. He treated Neji just like one of the family, without any reservations or awkwardness. "So how do you know we'll get in?"
Naruto smirked. "I'm not telling. It's a surprise." He looked around the room. "You still have your helmet around here, right?"
Neji nodded as he came back into the room with his hair tied loosely behind him. "Yeah. Why?"
Naruto grinned. "Iruka and Kakashi got me a Harley for my birthday. I brought it because it's so nice out still."
Neji smiled as he turned back around and grabbed his white helmet from the closet in the bedroom. He and Naruto rode to the club in silence. Naruto walked up to the bouncer and smiled. "Uzumaki. He's with me." He jerked his thumb toward Neji. The bouncer smiled and nodded before allowing
them into the club. He had seen the boy with Madara's nephew before, and didn't want to get in trouble with his boss.
Naruto and Neji headed straight to the dance floor. Naruto smirked as he started dancing. He knew he and Neji looked sinfully good together. They had gone on a date once, but they had decided at the end, before a good night kiss even, just to be friends. Naruto leaned close to Neji and smirked before shouting over the music, "Itachi's uncle owns this place."
Neji leaned back to look at Naruto and smiled. He wrapped his arms around Naruto's waist and
pulled the younger boy flush to his body. "You look good. Things with Itachi must be going well," Neji shouted back as they danced together.
Naruto couldn't help the grin that spread across his face. He nodded. "He gave me a promise ring this morning. I'm ready to marry him now, though."
Neji shook his head. He'd known Itachi, even though Itachi was a couple years older than he was. He'd also seen the nearly immediate change when Itachi realized he was in love with Naruto. Itachi had really cleaned up his act; not that he had been bad before, but he was clean now, and it was thanks to Naruto. Neji smiled as the song ended. "Let's get a drink."
Naruto nodded and they headed toward the bar. Neji ordered them both water and paid for it. "Not that I mind seeing you in the least, but where is your shadow?" Neji asked as he and Naruto sat at a table.
Naruto smiled. "He needed some time to himself. I'm just too much for any one person to handle that often." He sighed, "Seriously though, something was bringing him down. He asked me to stay with Iruka, so I figured he needed some space and I let him go."
Neji nodded. "It happens to the best of us. So, what do you want to do now? I think I'm all danced out. Do you realize we were on the floor for almost two and a half hours?"
Naruto's eyes widened almost comically. "Seriously?" Neji nodded and pointed Naruto toward the clock. "I want to stop by and say hi to Itachi's uncle. Then how about a movie at my place? You could sleep over."
Neji smiled. "Sounds good, Naruto."
They headed toward the private room that was Madara's office. The bouncer outside recognized
Naruto and smirked. "He'll be surprised to see you."
Naruto shrugged. "I'm good at surprising people." He smiled at the bouncer as the door was opened. Naruto was surprised to see Madara alone, and just listening to some music with his headphones on. Naruto smiled and walked up to the desk before leaning forward and blowing on Madara's
face.
Madara's eyes snapped open as he growled, "What the fuck?" He shook his head when he saw Naruto sitting across from him, and dropped his eyes to Naruto's extremely fuckable friend. "What can I do for you, Naruto, and who is your gorgeous friend?"
Naruto sighed and shook his head. "He's not going to fuck you. He's extremely involved with his fiance."
Madara pouted. "You have no idea how many married people come to me, Naruto." He sighed regretfully as he looked at Neji. "I guess I'll just have to let him go though. I respect anyone who is your friend." He sighed and looked back at Naruto. "I'm also very sorry about Sai. I never told him to give you drugs, and I most definitely didn't want him touching you in a sexual manner. I wouldn't have blamed Itachi for splitting his skull open."
Naruto frowned. "Yeah. It's really got Itachi upset. He even needed some time alone. I think he's worried that since he's so content right now, something has to happen to make it bad again. He told me once, in a rare state of talkativeness, that he thought that's why life took away his parents."
Madara frowned. Itachi had had things rough for a long time, and he just wanted his nephew to feel good and stop worrying about things. He really wished the boy would get high just once a month to relieve his tensions. Madara smiled softly. "At least he has you."
Naruto smiled. "Yeah, and I have him. I know he's really good for me. Look, I promised Neji here that
we'd go have movie night, but I just wanted to stop and say hi before we left for the night. I'm happy that I'm on the list by myself."
Madara laughed. "You're not, but no one in their right mind would stop anyone whose name is next to Itachi's on a list in one of my clubs, or any of his friends."
Naruto frowned. "It wasn't at your club, but Sasuke just about got denied last night at 2 Degrees." He smiled. "Don't worry though, Itachi gave that bouncer the Uchiha treatment and we didn't have any problems the rest of the night except for Sai." Naruto's voice turned to a growl of disgust while saying Sai's name. He was still so upset about it.
Madara frowned and handed Naruto a card with his cell phone number on it. "If something like that ever happens again, please call me right away. I can't express how sorry I am." He sighed. "Do you want anything before you leave?"
Naruto shrugged. "Yes, but I'm going to say no for Itachi and Sasuke's sakes. Those crazy Uchihas worry about me enough the way it is."
Madara nodded. "I hope to see you around, Naruto."
Naruto waved as he and Neji headed back towards the door. Madara leaned back in his chair trying to figure out how he could use this new information to get both Naruto and Itachi in his employ. That had really been the ultimate plan with Itachi until Naruto had shown up, but perhaps now he could make it work. Madara smiled as he heard Itachi's ring tone. "What can I do for you Itachi?" He waited for an answer before he chuckled. "There's not always someone attached to my
cock you know."
Itachi sighed on the other end of the line. "I need to come talk to you. I have some questions."
Madara nodded. "Sure. Come by now. I'll be sure to keep everyone else away from the room for now." He hung up without giving Itachi a chance to disagree. He called out to his bouncer. "Kisame, only Itachi gets in here tonight. Understand?"
Kisame's voice floated through the door. "Perfectly."
