DISCLAIMER (I just realized that I forgot to put these in
all my chapters!): I don’t own Naruto.
Naruto
woke the next morning, feeling better than he ever had his whole life. He could feel Sakura’s warm body
pressed against his, her chest expanding and contracting with each breath. Her breasts… Uh-oh. Not a
good thing to be thinking about… Naruto quickly began to disengage
himself from Sakura’s embrace, which caused Sakura to slowly awaken from her
slumber.
Naruto
sat up, and began to remove his shirt, which was bloodied from the incident the
day before. As he gripped the bottom
of the shirt to pull it over his head, he felt gentle hands on his own. Glancing behind him, he saw Sakura
holding on to his shirt. Naruto
smiled, and let her remove his shirt.
Sakura turned him around and inspected the bandages across his stomach
and chest.
“The
bleeding stopped very quickly,” Sakura told Naruto, “but I don’t know…too much
movement might tear the wounds back open.
The bandages need to be changed anyway.” She began undoing the strips of cloth wrapped around his
torso. Naruto noticed that the
cloth, itself, was colored red, and not just by his blood. As Sakura began to cast away the cloth,
Naruto stopped her. He closed his
eyes, grabbed her hand, brought it to his mouth, and kissed it. When Sakura
finished removing the bandages, she turned Naruto around to inspect his wounds
and begin dressing them again. She
gasped in shock. His body was
completely uncut. No large gash,
no wound slowly healing, not even a scar!
“Yeah,”
Naruto said. “I’ve always healed
very fast. One good night’s sleep
will heal just about anything for me.”
After
Naruto got a pair of pants and another shirt out of his backpack, he stood up
and walked a little bit away to change.
Donning his new shirt, he then took off his bloodied pants and boxers
and put on new ones. When he was
done, he turned around, and was quite surprised to see Sakura staring directly
at him. As their eyes met, they
both blushed very deeply.
“The
rendezvous point shouldn’t be too far from here,” Sakura said as she looked at
the map, quickly trying to hide her embarrassment. “Maybe only half a day’s travel.” After a quick breakfast, they were off. Even though in enemy territory, they
weren’t very far into the country, so they weren’t very likely to encounter
patrols. The journey to the
rendezvous point went uneventfully.
They
arrived at the rendezvous point – a small roadside shrine. In traditional Japanese style, the
shrine was a smaller replica of a large pagoda in Kyoto. Sakura knelt by the
bells, and rang them three times.
Sensing
a strong presence outside, Sakura and Naruto left the shrine to be greeted by
Anko. “Nothing urgent to
report. Here’s our written
report,” she whispered to the two Genin.
“Its warded so only the writer and the daimyo can read it.” With that, she slipped an envelope into
Sakura’s pocket. With a grin,
Anko’s voice became its normal, cheery level. “How ‘bout a drink?”
“We’re
recovering well from the earthquake,” Sakura said. We are
still in enemy territory, Sakura thought to herself. We’ve got to veil our conversation. “All
the debris is cleared, and the walls were rebuilt. We’re working on the interior now. Most of it is all rebuilt, but a few rooms still need to be
redone… a few classrooms, the
gym…” Hopefully, Sakura thought, she’ll
pick up that I mean the Academy still needs some work. “Other
than that, we’re almost done on the reconstruction.” Sakura poured herself a little sake and sipped it
cautiously.
Anko
nodded. “Good, good. When will the school be open
again? Is there a timetable on
that or what?” When she got a
negative response, she frowned slightly.
Sakura’s eyes brightened. “We did find a new headmaster, though. She had a few things to take care of
before she started working at the school full time.” Sakura reached over and poured Naruto a little bit of sake,
and smiled at him.
Anko
smiled knowingly. “So you two are
off on a date, huh?” With that,
Sakura and Naruto blushed profusely.
Anko muttered quietly, “It’s a good cover story, especially if you two
keep on blushing like that when someone says something about it.” Finishing off
the bottle of sake, she switched back to her normal voice. “Well, tell everyone to keep up the
good work when you get back.”
With
that, Anko stood up, dropped some cash for the sake on the table, and walked
out of the bar. Sakura fingered
the envelope in her pocket, and found a note attached to it. Pulling it out, she read quietly to
Naruto, “You can leave however you want.
The schedule around here is clear for the next few days. –Anko.” Naruto and Sakura waited a few more minutes in silence
before leaving, themselves.
“Anko
said we could use your summoning to leave, because there aren’t any patrols
coming through the area for a while,” Sakura whispered to Naruto outside. “We could make it back to Wave Country
by tonight if we push it.”
As
soon as Naruto and Sakura were out of sight of the bar and shrine, Naruto
summoned his riding frog. Sakura
held Naruto close, her arms under his and wrapped around his chest. As they moved along the road at speeds
Sakura didn’t even know was possible, she squeezed Naruto even tighter.
Naruto
once again had what he was sure was a stupid grin on his face. Sakura-chan’s so close to me. I can feel her heart beat in time with
mine…
As if on cue with Naruto’s thoughts, Sakura rested her head on Naruto’s
shoulder, putting the two of them even closer. Sakura whispered with her eyes closed, “This is
wonderful.” Naruto took one hand
off the frog’s reins and started to play with Sakura’s hair. His stupid grin grew even bigger.
When
they arrived in Wave Country again, it was shortly before dinnertime. Sakura and Naruto held hands, faces
slightly blushing, as Inari answered Sakura’s knock on the door. “Naruto-niichan! I knew you’d be back soon,” he
said. He turned to Sakura and
laughed, noticing the two holding hands.
“What’s this about not liking Naruto-niichan? Did I hear you wrong or something,” he teased.
Tazuna
walked up behind Inari.
“Super-great to see you guys again,” he said. He eyed the two shinobi holding hands and smiled. “We actually have another super guest
here for dinner tonight.” Tazuna
ushered the two ninjas into the dining room.
A
familiar-looking man with long white hair sat at the dinner table, back to
Naruto and Sakura. A familiar
voice spoke. “Well, Naruto. What took you so long?” Jiraiya turned and looked at his
student, a smile on his face. The
smile turned sour as Naruto said, “Oye, why are you here, Ero-sennin?” A vein in Jiraya’s forehead bulged out
as he jumped over to Naruto to punch him in the back of the head.
Naruto
was too fast for the frog trainer.
Deftly blocking his blow, he grinned and gave a Sasuke-like “hmph” of
victory. Growling, Jiraya followed
with another punch, which connected very easily. Everyone else in the room felt a bead of sweat rolling down
the backs of their heads.
As
Tazuna, Inari, and their guests sat down for dinner, Inari’s mother came
out. “Naruto-kun! Sakura-san! Jiraya-sama said that you would be back today, but I didn’t
believe him.” She closed her eyes
and smiled. “But I took his
suggestion and made as much ramen as I possibly could tonight.”
Naruto’s eyes widened and
brightened. Jiraya grabbed him by
the ear and dragged him outside, indicating to everyone else that this would
just take a second or two. Once
outside, he let go. “Naruto,”
Jiraya said in a stern voice with a frown on his face. Naruto looked up. Jiraya’s face softened, as did his
voice. “Congratulations. I can see the two of you found your
true feelings for each other.” He
paused and put his hand on Naruto’s shoulder, and his voice got softer. “Don’t eat the damn ramen like you
usually do. It’s enough to make
that girl disappear quicker than a set of rims at a Puff Daddy concert.” Rolling his eyes, Naruto opened the
door and stepped back inside to eat, wondering what rims were and why anyone
would talk about Puff’s father.
Jiraya
laughed a little. “That’s a fair
question, Sakura.” He paused for a
minute to reflect on how to put it into words. “Well,” Jiraya explained, “I don’t much care about Konoha
anymore. Way back in the day,
after The Third allowed Orochimaru to escape from Konoha, I kind of had a
falling out with him and some of the other top shinobi in the village. A group was put together to bring back
Orochimaru. He set up traps and
other shinobi on the way, and I was the only one to meet up with him. I tried to talk him into returning, and
that didn’t work. I tried to fight
with him, to drag him back to the village if necessary. I ended up getting my…” he noticed that
Inari was still in the room.
“rear… handed to me. I
blamed myself for Orochimaru, and left the village in guilt and anger. I’ve only been in Konoha recently to
keep an eye on you, Naruto.”
Naruto opened his mouth to object to needing someone to ‘keep an eye on
him,’ but Jiraya cut him off. “I
wouldn’t want anything to happen to my most promising student.”
“I’m
your only student,” Naruto reminded the
old man.
Jiraya
smiled. “I meant ‘most promising student
I’ve ever had.’” It took a while
for the meaning of these words to sink in with Naruto, and even longer for
Sakura. “But anyway, I’m planning
on returning to Konoha, so if you want me to pass along any messages, I’ll be
sure to deliver them.”
After
dinner, Jiraya took Naruto aside again, but this time took him for a walk to
the end of the dock. Naruto handed
Anko’s report to Jiraya. “OK. Good job, Naruto. Are you hurt at all? Any encounters?”
“Well,”
Naruto started with a bit of a smile, “a couple of bandits were going to rape
and kill Inari’s mom, but they got a taste of Rasengan, and figured it was time
to get new jobs.” His smile
dropped. “But after that…
Jiraya-sensei…” Jiraya was quite surprised at what Naruto just called him,
making him understand that what he was about to say was very serious and
important. “I got slashed by the
Kodachi of Errythul Spawn. I
almost died from blood loss alone, never mind the demon spawn that was
implanted in me. Sakura-chan
bandaged me up, but I was still unconscious.”
Jiraya
put a hand on Naruto’s forehead, and Naruto could feel Jiraya channeling chakra
into his body through the older man’s hand. This continued for a moment, and then Jiraya dropped his
hand. “You don’t have any demon
spawn left in you. Good.” Jiraya’s eyes narrowed. “You’ve got a strong will, but your
will alone shouldn’t have been enough to vanquish it. Did you rely on Kyuubi to help get rid of that thing from
you?”
“No,”
Naruto explained. “Kyuubi… seems
to… like me. While I was
unconscious, I saw Kyuubi. He said
we were inside my mind. He told me
straight out that if I were to let him help, the seal would weaken. I’m not sure if Kyuubi is evil anymore,
but…”
“Anyway,”
Naruto continued. “I was fighting
it on my own, when I heard Sakura-chan crying over me. I felt her tear hit me, and it gave me
the strength and force of will to kill the demon spawn outright.” He smiled at his mentor. “When I woke up, Sakura-chan was
kissing my forehead. She… I…” Naruto stumbled over his words.
Jiraya
put a hand on Naruto’s shoulder.
“You can’t summarize it in words.
You never can.” He frowned
and continued. “As far as Kyuubi
goes, if I were you, I wouldn’t trust him yet. Rely on his power when needed, but don’t let him strain the
seal.” He paused for a
moment. “Now for the other thing I
wanted to talk to you about.
Sakura.” He sat down on the
edge of the dock, and invited Naruto to do the same. “Listen, you need to be careful. Don’t hurt her, or push her into something she isn’t ready
for, if you know what I mean.”
Naruto blushed beet red.
“I
never actually thought of doing that,” he said truthfully.
Jiraya
smiled. “Good.” He reached into his pocket and pulled
out a small box, which he tossed to Naruto. “You may decide that you need these.” Naruto glanced down at the box, and got
even redder. The product name
“Trojan” was written across the box.
“They’re not as easy to use as you might think. Look.” Jiraya pulled out another
packet, and opened it. “You have
to unroll it. Make sure to leave
room at the end. And pinch the tip
when you unroll it. Or it’ll
burst.” Jiraya demonstrated on his
fingers. “If you roll it the wrong
way – and it happens. Believe me,
it happens – throw it away and start over. Rolling it the wrong way will break it. You may not see it, but there can be
microscopic holes.”
Jiraya
stood up with a groan. “Well, I
think that’s all the sage advice I have for you.” His smile broadened.
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
Naruto
grinned back at his mentor. “‘What
you wouldn’t do?’ I can’t think of
anything that you wouldn’t do, Ero-sennin.”
Jiraya
growled. “I wouldn’t call my
sensei a perverted hermit!”
Naruto
rolled his eyes. “If your sensei
was Old Man Hokage, I’m sure you called him a pervert all the time.”
Jiraya
froze in his tracks. Damn, he thought.
I was hoping he wouldn’t know that about Sarutobi-sensei.
“Huh?” He acted
confused. “I have no idea what
you’re talking about. C’mon. Let’s get back. I want to see Law and Order. It starts in five minutes.”
As
the screen faded to black and the words “Executive Producer: Dick Wolf”
appeared on screen, Naruto stretched out and yawned, making sure to put his arm
around Sakura as he recovered from the yawn. Sakura grinned at Naruto. “So, think you’re slick sneaking your arm around me like
that, huh?” Sakura teased.
Jiraya
laughed. “Well, it’s about time
for me to get to sleep. I’ve got
an early day tomorrow.” With that
he stood up and moved towards his room.
Naruto
called out to him. “Early day
doing what,” he asked his mentor.
“Spying on the women’s bath?”
Jiraya’s surprised reaction confirmed Naruto’s suspicion. As the old man left, Naruto turned to
Sakura. “We have to go to sleep
right now, and wake up before Ero-sennin does.” Sakura gave a confused “huh.” “He’ll sneak a peek at anything female. You take a shower after he wakes up,
you might find yourself on the cover of the next book Kakashi-sensei reads.”
Sakura
sweatdropped, then got up and dragged Naruto to their room by the arm. Naruto closed the door behind him, and
channeled chakra into the walls.
“After watching Ero-sennin in action, I learned a few of his tricks. He uses lots of regular espionage
jutsus, so there are ways of detecting them…” Naruto channeled for a few more
moments. “OK. The room is clean.” He began to turn to face Sakura. “You can change in safety,
Sa…ku…ra……chan.” Naruto blushed bright red as his eyes found Sakura’s back to
him. She had already begun
changing. In fact, she had already
removed her clothes to put on her nightgown.
Sakura
put on her nightgown, and turned to see Naruto staring at her, blushing. She began to blush as well. After a moment, she smiled. “Well,” she said cheerfully, “I guess
we’re even now.”
Sakura
climbed into bed, yawned, and then smiled. “Are you going to stand there all night, Naruto? Come on. Let’s get some sleep.”
“Y…yeah. Sure,” Naruto responded. He opened the stuff sack to his
sleeping bag, and Sakura looked at him.
“You
know, um…” she said in a nervous voice.
Working up the courage to say what she wanted to, she blurted out, “You
don’t have to sleep in your sleeping
bag.” Sakura’s face was burning
from blushing. Naruto slowly made
eye contact, and seeing that she was serious, closed his sleeping bag up, and
crawled under the covers, facing Sakura.
The two lay on their sides, facing each other, and then Sakura smiled,
put her hand on Naruto’s cheek, and closed her eyes. Naruto smiled, closed his eyes, and put his hand on top of
hers.
Sleep
very easily washed over the two shinobi. The last thing Naruto felt before he
fell asleep was Sakura’s hand in his own on his cheek, and the last thing he
saw was Sakura’s beautiful, smiling face.
The last thing he remembered was Sakura’s voice earlier that day: “This is wonderful.”
OK, guys. The story continues for a while on my computer, but rather quickly loses all semblance of plot, and becomes PWP. Because I realize you guys have come to
expect more from me than that, I don’t plan on updating for a LONG time… long
enough for me to really completely rework all of my unpublished stuff.
Jon – D&D much?
