Oooo, yay. Another chapter for you guys. *sniffs* For some explainable reason this one made me cry. Sweet gentle and so sad at the same time. Thanks for the reviews and let me know if you liked this chapter. Minato and Naruto's relationship goes a bit further yay...
On with Chapter 4 ------------------------------------------------- The weekend was slow and lonely for Naruto so he spent it diving through works that were either left unfinished or needed to redone completely. Tiredness was never a good thing when Naruto was working on a painting because he relived the scene in explicit detail; so much so that it often left him emotionally drained or too hyper to sit still for more than a few minutes at a time. His studio was filled with many paintings and all of them depicted scenes from Konoha and the shinobi world to an extent. Depending on Naruto's creativity he often changes things; like Gaara with a racoon tail and ears or he himself with fox ears and nine tails. It often left him giggling at himself or the subject of the painting; like the one time he painted Sasuke with Kakashi's hair and sitting next to Pakkun. Without knowing it Naruto's heart changed as he reflected upon a day of his great betrayal. The fight at the Valley of the End with Sasuke. Naruto still remembered the immense pain of Sasuke Chidori through his heart and absentmindedly rubbed at the spot. It still hurt to think about it and yet that was not the scene Naruto chose to paint; it was when Kakashi found him, alone and desolate as he was left out in the muddy rain. 'Kit, you're doing it again.' Kyuubi warned and Naruto shook his head. How many times did tears start flowing as he painted or sketched a scene from his past? "Shut it Kyuubi, I'm not talking to you remember." Naruto berated as he wiped furiously at his eyes to scrub away at the droplets of emotion that he hated to show even in his own home and yet he could barely hold them back anymore. It was at times like these that he really wished he could have died a long time ago... ------------------------------ The shrine was empty and desolate; no one came here anymore and it broke Naruto's heart as he observed the fading paint and bricks. The shrine bell used to be a shimmering bronze but now it was a garish green colour. He sighed but it was swept away by the wind and tossed to the rustling trees. After a fight with himself Naruto decided to leave the painting be and come out to the shrine. On a day such as today, where rain pelted down and lightning sprouted from the sky as thunder claps followed it was as if the ghosts of the past were more restless than usual. In his hands rested three beautiful bouquets of different flowers; carefully stepping towards the back of the shrine where he knew his friends and family were buried in the unmarked earth. He berated himself as he knew he probably should erect a memorial in their absence; at the time he thought the shrine would be enough to bring calm to his soul but he was mistaken. He sighed and observed the muddy earth beneath his heavy black boots. A long trench coat fluttered in violent wind as the rain pelted his exposed skin and soaking through even the dark blue silk hitai-ate around his neck. "I'm sorry it's been such a long time since I came to properly say hello. Since it was Jiraiya's death day a day ago I'll give you flowers today Ero-sennin as an offering. And don't you dare use them to lure the pretty ghosts to your research!" Naruto chuckled as a clap of thunder seemed to be Jiraiya's answer. He laid the collection of white roses with green gerberas on the ground, even the pelting rain didn't mar their pure beauty. The other two bouquets were both of black roses; not to dishonour the dead but to express his great sorrow at their loss. With carefully controlled chakra he used a lighter version of the Rasengan to rip the petals from the stem; the wind immediately picked up the thousands of loose petals as they drifted across the shrine in a rain of deep red as if blood was being spilled again. A shimmer of a real smile shuttered across his petal pink lips, finally a calm to the storm in his heart as he watched the petals swirl and fall all around him. As his breath left him Naruto felt calm surround him in a stillness that seemed to stop the air and he became aware of natures chakra around him. Smiling at the reminder of his sage training. A slight hum emanated from the air around him and Naruto allowed it to pass over him as it calmed his heartbeat and the turmoil in his soul. "He's here." Naruto whispered; golden eyes opening to watch a figure approach. This time he felt him and Naruto felt the emotions of his young charge turn and waver between concern and excitement. Chuckling to himself, really Minato was really just like he was at that time of his life. Never able to sit still for longer than a few minutes unless he was completely consumed in that specific project. Watching as blue eyes landed on him and immediately wondered up towards the sage master. "Professor? Is that you? Why are here?" Minato asked as he approached Naruto; blue eyes scanning the calm demeanour of his teacher and noticing that Naruto was completely soaked through. Using his umbrella to cover the shorter man and pull him closer to shelter him from the rain. Not noticing as energy crackled around them and dissipated again as Naruto let his sage mode dissipate into nature again before Minato got suspicious. "Why are you here and out in the rain without an umbrella?" He asked exasperatedly; really Naruto-sensei needed to look after himself better. Blue eyes taking in the soaked appearance and leaned forward to pull a black rose petal from his sensei's sunny blond hair. Holding it between his fingers as he felt the velvety texture tickled across his fingers. It was only then that he noticed the flowers on the ground and the many petals drifting and falling in the wind. He shook his head, bewildered at what he saw but dismissed it as he started leading Naruto away with him. "I swear you are just asking to get sick; aren't you?" Minato huffed and promptly blushed at the musical chuckle that resounded from Naruto. His heavy boots falling in step next to Minato and without knowing it Naruto settled his hand over Minato's on the umbrella handle and tilted the umbrella just so that Minato was completely sheltered from the pouring rain. "What are you doing here in the first place?" Minato huffed; his blush very prominent as his heart pelted in his chest at the warmth that Naruto-sensei's hand caused over him. "Well, you see. I was taking a walk when a stray cat meowed in pain and I just had to follow it. Eventually I came here but the cat seemed to have disappeared into thin air." Naruto said in the demeanour Kakashi usually adopted when he didn't want to give the proper answer. Smiling when blue eyes looked at him sceptically before turning away again, a chuckle sounded from the young Namikaze. "That has got to be the most original shitty excuse of a lie I have ever heard sensei. Considering you are so inventive I'll let this one slide. Besides its cold and you are soaked through; I'm taking you home so you can get dry." An awkward silence fell between them and Minato felt himself flinch; thinking he may have angered Naruto but was surprised when he eyes observed the small but gentle smile play on Naruto's lips. "Thank you Minato-kun." Naruto said in a soft whisper as he dutifully followed behind his determined student. ------------------------------------------- "You know Minato-kun; you really need to stop brining me home like some stray cat. You're parents are going to get the wrong idea you know." Naruto teased as they stepped into the traditional foyer of the Namikaze household. The shrine was apparently less than a kilometre away from their elaborate home and their track through the rain and mud was quiet and content as Naruto's hand never left Minato's as the walked. The warmth seeming to spread like wildfire across Minato's body as a fire was reawakened within his limbs. He couldn't seem to get rid of the blush staining his nose in an attractive red. "I'm sorry," Naruto bowed deeply as Minato's mother came towards the front door to probably berate her son. "Your son seems to pick up strays all the time. I just couldn't resist that pout of concern so I followed him home Namikaze-san." Naruto said with a quirk of his lips. "Oh please Naru-chan; come in. Come in." She said with a warm smile and Naruto obeyed; even though he was aware of the water he was dripping on the wooden floor. A fresh fluffy towel was handed to him and Naruto said his thanks as he took of his long coat and handed it to the demanding woman that was staring at him with narrowed eyes. He have a nervous smile as he scratched the back of his head. "Minato's clothes may be a bit big for your delicate frame Naru-chan but at least they will be dry." Hana Namikaze said and shooed her son and Naruto away towards the back of the house to change whilst she made tea. ~ The atmosphere was heavy as Naruto returned towards the tea room and the sires of the house seemed to have been congregated. Naruto frowned as he stepped tentatively closer towards the room; his senses on high alert on the look out for danger. The air seemed to dissipate at his approaching form and he turned to observe two fake smiles of Minato's parents. "I'm sorry for the intrusion. I could perhaps go if this is a private matter." Naruto murmured but admitted that his curiosity was peaked. Wondering why the mood in the house seemed to have become so tense before fearing that it was he himself that caused it. "Nonsense, Naru-chan. Go sit down in the lounge we will see you a bit later." Naruto gave reluctant nod and was promptly pushed forward by a hand on his back. A delicious shiver racing down his spine as a warm puff of air brushed against his ear in a teasing warmth. "Naruto-sensei, are you alright?" Minato asked concerned and Naruto gave a nod before allowing the hand on his lower back to guide him towards a seat in the living room. Head spinning with the intimate contact as he desperately tried to remain calm and keep the blush from blossoming on his cheeks. "'m fine." Naruto said with a strained whisper as he was guided to his seat. Distinctly aware that Minato's clothes were hanging off his shoulder and the pants barely clung to his hips. Wow, he really was small. No wonder everyone asked for his age and ID when he entered clubs and bars. "Really, I never noticed. I wonder why I was never blessed with good genes. Too short." Naruto murmured to himself in a pout and immediately noticed the air's heaviness lift as Minato's laughter rang in his ear pleasantly. "Naruto-sensei; I think you are perfect as you are." Minato said softly and Naruto felt that blush he had been trying to hide flit across his nose in a deep red. "Minato; are you trying to get better marks by complementing me?" Naruto teased and it was Minato's turn to blush under the scrutiny of a smirk that was much like his in awkward situations. Naruto's chuckle resounded through the house as he patted the younger Namikaze's shoulder in comfort. "I'm just teasing. Don't worry Minato-kun. Like I said I'm always fair, I don't judge and I don't criticize. I know that better than anyone that any person can look fine on the outside but are shredded on the inside." Naruto said and promptly retracted his hand that had been laying on Minato's shoulder; the intimacy giving him a shudder. "Like you sensei?" Minato asked in a concerned voice. Just as suddenly as it appeared Naruto's happy mood disappeared and once again his voice became small and filled with shame and sorrow. "Just like me." He whispered. Blue eyes averted from Minato's close scrutiny as his long blonde bangs fell over his eyes. A heavy silence followed and Naruto was startled when he felt a arm pull him closer towards a warm body and Minato's concerned whisper rang in his ear. "Why don't you lean on me Naruto. I want to help you yet you seem so unapproachable. I can see that it is becoming increasing difficult to hide your own distress..." Minato trailed off as he felt Naruto's body relax against his and a weary head rested on his shoulder. "I don't want you to do something stupid." Minato gave a saddened whisper as he pulled closer to his body; the warmth travelled between them in a companionable silence. Naruto gave a sigh of contentment as he felt his emotions fade into the back of his heart. Yes, this simple touch of comfort was one he had wished for since he was a little child. He lent further into the warmth as a wave of tiredness filled him; leaning into Minato's touch as the Namikaze's fingers carded through his hair. There was no need to speak, there was no need to explain. The emotions between them shifted between contentment to love in simple touches. For first time since Minato had that recurring dream he felt like himself for the first time. Like nothing was missing from his soul and his sorrow seemed to have faded. ---------------------------------------- The beauty of their moment together wasn't shattered when Minato led Naruto to his room and allowed his teacher to curl up at his side. The shoji door was closed and silence emanated from the house as both parties fell into an exhausted sleep. Not even stirring as two pair of eyes observed the situation; gentle smiles and acceptance shimmering there. "They are perfect for each other aren't they?" Hana whispered to her husband and he nodded before leading her away with a hand resting on the small of her back. Leaving the sleeping children together. ~ Naruto stirred slightly as he felt a kiss on his forehead; it was gentle and welcoming. He curled further into that warmth and was surprised when he felt gentle kisses on his cheeks; kissing away the tears he never knew was there. The pressure moved to his lips and Naruto shivered and in his sleepy haze increased the pressure unknowingly and parted his lips under the questioning tongue. The slide of mouth against mouth was delicious and Naruto was content that he didn't open his eyes; he was awake but his mind had yet to catch up to him. His fingers fisted the front of Minato's shirt as pressed closer; needing more of that warmth. It was gentle and loving and Naruto felt tears sprung anew in his eyes as they leaked out slowly. No longer aware of whether he was dreaming or it was really happening. Thumbs gently brushed away at the tears as the kiss was deepened and opened a new intimacy between them. Their breaths easily meshed together as they became one; Naruto was aware of a heightened heartbeat between his fingers and placed his palm there. Not wanting to let that feeling go; knowing that this was no longer a dream. Blue eyes slid open to connect with blue as the gentle kiss was retracted; leaving Naruto feeling hollowed without the touch. "So beautiful and so broken. I don't want to let you go Naruto." Minato whispered sincerely as his fingers caressed Naruto's whisker like marks. Naruto's eyes filmed over as another tear slipped passed his notice before being brushed away. "Speak to me Naruto." Minato said gently as he pulled Naruto closer to his body; the shorter Uzumaki laying against his chest as he cradled Naruto against him. The silence stretched on and for a moment and Minato feared that he done the wrong thing in kissing his sensei but it immediately pushed aside as Naruto leaned up and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "Thank you." ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------ Thanks for the read! Please leave a review if you liked it.
