A/N uh, yeah. Been a while. So how bout them space/time jutsus?
Oh god keeping Itachi IC is such a pain. Y U no show emotions Itachi? Rates and Reviews are absolutely amazing. ------------------------------ Tick tick tick You can hear your heart pounding in your ears. Not from fear, or excitement, but from the sheer blanket of awkward silence enveloping the whole house. You grind your teeth, resisting the urge to grab the Uchiha sitting next to your and beat the pretty out of his face. “Asshole” you sip your -now lukewarm- tea slowly, trying your hardest not to stare at the floor. ” He's doing this just to fuck with me. I just KNOW it.” “So-” You jump slightly as Hoshi clears his throat, nearly knocking over your cold cup in the process. “I know I'm not exactly in a position to pry, but what brings you here?” he cocks his head to the side. “Obviously not to get my blessing.” “Geeze I said I was sorry” you mock-whine, narrowing your eyes. And you falter, just slightly, under his reproachful gaze. He really is model material. Pale skin, long jet black hair and piercing golden eyes. He looks nothing like the rest of the family (you yourself suspected an affair, but never admitted so to Hoshi) and you can't help a wry smile ebbing at your lips. If nothing else, you're glad you'd managed to spare him the life you endured. It was the least you could do. cough “We weren't exactly in a position to publicize the event.” You snap your head back, blinking. Itachi hadn't said anything for hours. “I...can see that. I mean, it sucks, but what can you do?” Hoshi shrugs. “So, how did you two meet?” “oshit” You open and close your mouth several times, not quite managing an answer. “We have the same job, more or less..” your partner says simply. “We worked in close proximity with each other until eventually being put on the same team.” “Heh, seems like most couples meet through work.” the fake smiles slowly turns into a genuine one. “What kind of work is it?” “Security. . .For a non-profit organization.” You choke on a mouthful on tea. Had you not been so bewildered that Itachi was actually helping you out AND holding a conversation like a human being and not a robot, you would be laughing your ass off. It's almost endearing, in a weird way, seeing him talk normally and not in flat statements or cryptic messages. His expression, while still stern, has softened considerably, though most wouldn't be able to even tell. “Maybe he's relaxed a bit" you wonder, and you immediately know that's bullshit. Most genin are incapable of relaxing after their first year. Ninja are stiff as a corpse until they die, and for some time after that even. He -definitely- isn't relaxed. He does, however, seem at ease. And that in turn is making you feel slightly, just slightly better about the whole ordeal. “Hey, I hate to be a rude host and all, but I ate out for dinner,” Hoshi breaks from the conversation, leaning back in his chair. “-And I haven't been grocery shopping in weeks. There's literally no food here.” You frown. “Hoshi if you didn't have money for food, you should have told me. I could have easily sent you-” “No no, I've just been lazy. I've got a job and all that-” he glances at the kitchen clock. “A job I'm going to be late for if I don't get to bed, like, now. “ You glance at the clock on the kitchen wall. It's only eight PM. You raise and eyebrow, but say nothing. “His boss must be a huge asshole.” He offers an apologetic grin. “You'll probably have to go out or something. I've got some coupons for this ramen shop up the road. It's good and all, but there's always this asshole blonde kid eating them out of stock, so I wouldn't exactly recommend it” You make a pained face. “Riiight. Is there maybe a convenience store I could raid instead? or-? Your eyes drift over towards the kitchen window, towards the cage under the eave. “Don't even think about it. “ Your brother sneers. “Those are show pigeons. They're worth enough to buy YEARS worth of food.” “And that would be great, if you didn't blow most of your paycheck feeding them. “ you roll your eyes. Hoshi offers a sheepish grin in response. “So then, yeah. I'm going out.” you turn your head towards Itachi. “You coming?” He stares blankly, before getting to his feet, not bothering to make eye contact. “I'm going in for the night” he replies flatly, before ascending the narrow staircase to the bedrooms, the stairs squeaking in protest. You sit stiffly, awkwardly in your chair for a moment, before letting out a frustrated sigh. Looks like regular, socially-inept-slightly-asshole-ish Itachi was back. You frown. Was nice while it lasted. “He always like this?” There's a subtle crackling noise as Hoshi absently tightens his grip on the back of your chair. Hard enough that the wood begins to crack. “Yeah.” you offer an apologetic smile. “Sorry, uh, Karasu's just never been very social, and he doesn't really act-” “He better be treating you right.” There's undeniable malice in his voice this time. You crane your head around to see him staring straight ahead. There's a faraway look on his face, and for a moment, you sense movement behind his golden eyes. Your heart jumps into your throat. “Oh 'cmon,You know I'd beat his ass if he laid a hand on me” you lie through your teeth while waving your hands dismissively, sweat pooling on your forehead.. “Trust me. He's just not a people person.” “That's. . . good to know.” Hoshi turns back to you, eyes relatively normal this time. “sorry, I know I'm just being overprotective, you can't fault me for that.” he grins. “But yeah, I gotta get to sleep.” “Alright.” you envelope him in a -cautious- embrace. “I'll see you in the morning. Maybe I'll even have breakfast ready.” “Don't get my hopes up” he calls as he makes his way up the stairs. You wait until you hear his door close, and the click of the lock, to slump into a heap back into your chair, shaking slightly. It has to be your imagination. It couldn't be coming from him. He's not even a ninja. You hold you head in your hands, mind spinning, heart pounding in your ears. For a split second, when he'd asked about Itachi, you'd felt an overwhelming surge of chakra flare up from within Hoshi. And it wasn't remotely human. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tak tak tak This time, it's your footsteps echoing as you creep back down the stairs, half clad in one of Hoshi's spare shirts (you'd been too rushed to pack pj's) bleary eyed and head pounding. You can't sleep. You assumed seeing your older brother would have alleviated your fears, or at least calmed them temporarily, but you assumed wrong. The what ifs, might be's and endless, generally unsavory possibilities has your mind racing. Because no matter how strong you became, how many risks you avoided, people you silenced, secrets you buried, you can't be everywhere at once. That margin for error, however small it may be, will never leave. Hoshi will never truly be safe. And despite the amount of trust you have in your teammate, he is still just a teammate. His loyalty lay outside the restrictions of family and friends. (seeing as he'd slaughtered his entire clan for no apparent reason) and as much as you do trust him, its superficial. He's still a liability. What was your family doing? Why had Itachi brought you here? And how the HELL did you non-ninja brother manage to release more chakra in a split second than you had in your entire life? You sigh quietly as you flick the kitchen light switch on and shuffle through the junk filled cabinets for painkillers, sleeping pills, something to take the edge off. Nothing. But you do find a half-empty bottle of offbrand liquor behind the toaster, and decide, though reluctantly(seeing as the last drink you had was roofied) it's a suitable substitute . slam You freeze. One of the perks of being a ninja is having your body react to a perceived danger before your mind can. Muscle memory could and often would guarantee a kunai lodged into a brain-stem before your conscious registered how or what you had plunged said kunai into. “I...see you're still up.” Hoshi had been through this before. Having a sister who's kneejerk reaction was to stab had put him in precarious situations rather frequently, and as such, he'd learned basic coping mechanisms, such as going limp. There's always going to be some things, however, that you can't be prepared for. Such as your half-naked sibling attempting to lodge a bottle of jack through your face. “Oh god.” you blow out a breath, releasing Hoshi from your death-grip and slumping into a nearby chair. “You scared me.” “No shit?” he squeaks, still plastered to the wall, eyes painfully wide. “I'll knock next time.” “Sorry.” You apologize, rubbing the back of your head, noticing with relief that there was no monstrous chakra surge like earlier. “So, what are you still doing up?” “I was about to ask you the same thing.” “Couldn't sleep.” you unscrew the top of the relatively still-intact bottle, gingerly taking a sip. “But I asked first. I thought you had work in the morning.” “I do.” “So why'd you ditch me earlier?” you fake-pout at him. Hoshi averts his eyes, suddenly looking uncomfortable. “I went to see someone.” Your eyes widen. “Who?” “Just. . . nobody.” “Bullshit.” you roll your eyes “You don't sneak out in the middle of the night just to see 'nobody', so spill.” He crosses his arms. “Forget it. You didn't even tell me you were getting married, why should I tell you who my girlfriend is?” You choke on the drink halfway down your throat, sputtering, before bursting out into a fit of laughter. “What?” he scrunches his face in indignation. “The hell is so funny?” “Nothing.” you snicker. “ I, just, can you imagine the look on dad's face if he knew that? I mean, he always thought you were gay.” This time, Hoshi rolls his eyes. “Did not” “Did too” you sneer. “Doesn't matter. So who is she, anyway?” “She's a jounin from here, Anko Mitarashi. Has a thing for civilians, apparently.” The smile falls from your face. You narrow your eyes at him. “I thought you knew better.” “Calm down” your sibling waves his hand. “Iwa and Konoha aren't close at all, and it's not like our clan got on well with the council. They couldn't even be assed to send out a village search party for us, remember?” You say nothing, though swallow rather hard. Hoshi probably had a hunch that you were still in the ninja business, and that you and Itachi weren't “business partners”, but telling him that you were most likely in every bingo book several nations over probably wasn't the best of ideas. The less he knew, the less likely he was to be a target. “I guess I'm just being paranoid. “ you sigh in mock-defeat. “Still, you shouldn't get too comfortable. If you end up leaking anything-” “You worry too much” Hoshi chides, failing to stifle a yawn.” “Worrying is what's kept me alive for so long.” you reply grimly, leaning back in your chair. An awkward silence follows. You feel slightly ashamed for having ruined the mood. “Nice job captain buzzkill. Haven't seen Hoshi for five years and all you spew is gloom and doom.” “So,” You snap your eyes, which had previously been tracing cracks on the ceiling, back to your brother, who had taken on an uncomfortable expression. “You never did tell me why you decided to visit.” he folds his hands, looking nervous for once. Again, you struggle to come up with a response. Telling him that an Iwagakure spy had mentioned him unfavorably probably wasn't a good idea, nor was mentioning that another “business partner” had recently paid a visit to your hometown, and the greedy bastard was more concerned with a possible bounty than the “organization” you worked for. “I was worried about you.” you say finally, a weak smile spreading over your face. “I just wanted to see if you were doing alright.” This time, he rolls his eyes. “Y'know, I'm the older sibling. /I'm/ supposed to be the one who's always worried, the one that takes care of /you/.” “I know, but-” “~~~~~”-chan, “ He places his hand on your head, ruffling your hair. “ Give your big brother some credit for once.” and without warning, he pulls you into a bear hug. “It's nice that you worry, though.” You can't help but blush. “Heh.” -------------------------------------------- It's dead silent as you make your way back up to the guest bedroom. Breath hitched, footsteps light, testing every floorboard for potential creaks before stepping. Part of you finds it strangely relaxing to be using a lifetime of espionage skills just to avoid waking your teammate up. You open the door slowly, inching it along to avoid any unnecessary noise. From here you can clearly see your teammate laying on top of the covers, completely clothed aside from his sandals and cloak. You can't help but feel a twinge of disappointment, because part of you was sincerely hoping for repeat of the lake incident. For a moment, you consider attempting to sleep on the floor. Part of you is far to nervous to sleep next to Itachi, let alone risk waking him up, but you also ran the risk of Hoshi walking in and making the wrong assumption, and given the chakra surge earlier, that wasn't the best idea. You resist a frustrated sigh, sliding onto the bed as carefully, nearest the edge as possible. And with mounting frustration, you realize that part of you is not only NOT interested in sleeping, but in all likelihood will actively keep you from doing so given your sleeping arrangements. Fuuuuuuuck- You swallow nervously. Despite your best attempt to settle on the opposite side of the bed, you can STILL feel his body heat, and the proximity is in no way helping the sudden, overwhelming urge to gratify yourself. You grit your teeth, doing your best not to let out a needy whine. Your imagination is NOT doing you any favors. Gods, his chest against the small of your back, the tingling of his hair falling on your neck, breath hot against your ear- “Don't pretend you don't notice this” Your heat stops dead in it's tracks, and it slowly dawns on you that none of this was your imagination. “I...haahh...uh...w-what?!” you stammer, your voice shaking violently. “You feel it, don't lie.” Your heart has not only started again, it's going for the goddamn Olympic title. It's painful against your ribcage as you attempt to find something, anything to make sense of. Any kind of alternative explanation for this sudden onslaught of affection, or pure, concentrated psychological torture. “I-I'm feeling a LOT of things right now-” you begin, “You're going to have to be more specific.” “The chakra surge earlier, and the fluctuations now.” he deadpans “That amount wasn't human.” The coldest of cold showers could not have extinguished your libido any faster. Fucking FUCK Your mind, already racing and cluttered and confused and most likely on the verge of an aneurysm, makes a connection, and a cold bolt of fear burns in your chest. “I did, but,” you pause “ Konoha has a lot of shinobi types I'm not familiar with, and they have the Ninetails. I just assumed it was one of them.” “It was relatively nearby. And we appear to be in a civilian housing district” Damn “Hoshi said he has a girlfriend now, and she's a ninja.” you reply, still shaking while coming down from your previous hormone-induced high. 'It could have been her.” “It's not of immediate concern. We'll find out eventually “He exhales softly, still far too close to your neck for comfort. “Just try to sleep. You're shaking.” You open your mouth, half attempting to explain why you are infact, shaking, but before you let out so much as a squeak of protest he throws his arm over you and actually pulls you in next to him, so that he's pressed completely against your back, his hand resting on your stomach, inches shy of your breasts. Your heart feels like it literally slams itself against your ribcage in a desperate break for freedom. No way. No fucking way. “~~~~”-san “ You manage nothing but a sharp intake of breath. He doesn't wait for a real reply. “Trust me.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
