Soooo this is the next chapter. It's taken about two days and a lot of rewriting to get it done. I hope you enjoy it! I respond to reviews here: http://xiophelia.livejournal.com/
`~` Naruto plopped his body down in a chair and forced air out of his lungs. It wasn’t that he needed to breathe, but the action of a sigh helped calm his nerves some. The action was familiar and soothing and it was what the blond needed at that moment. Sasuke had just left to make the arrangements concerning his death and to bring him a human to feed on. The blond was mostly nervous about the accident that was to occur tomorrow. What Naruto was nervous about the most, was the phone call he was to make tonight. He knew had been pouting ever since Sasuke told him of his plan. But he didn’t really have anything else to do. Sasuke wouldn’t allow him near anyone living until he could control his bloodlust. It was frustrating that he didn’t have anyone to hang with. Naruto was bored and the library certainly didn’t interest him. Or at least he was certain it wouldn’t if he could get into it. Sasuke had it blocked off before he left, knowing full well that there wasn’t a television anywhere in the house. So now on top of nervousness, Naruto was bored as well. Then he remembered the railing from the night before. He wanted to study it and decipher the story it was telling. He moved from the chair and made his way to the entrance hall. He still couldn’t get over the extravagance of the hall. He could just imagine a masquerade happening here in the eighteenth century. The dresses would be grand and glittering with the light of the candles in the chandelier. The women would hide their faces behind jeweled masks while the men wore feathered ones. Naruto shook his head and pushed the image out of his mind. Maybe he could talk Sasuke into some sort of vampire masquerade on Halloween. The blond grinned as he approached the banister. He gently caressed the top of it before moving to the carved images in the middle. From what he could tell this seemed like the end and so he moved up the stairs. As he climbed he couldn’t help but think that this banister was some sort of family history. When the blond finally reached the top, he realized that the history was still going. The banister had spread off the left and the blond followed it. He was curious about how Sasuke’s family started and how they had become a vampire clan. The blond believed that the Uchiha’s had to have been human once. The hallway seemed long and ominous. It was clear that people did not come here often. The rugs were in prime condition and Naruto was sure that they were centuries old and Persian. Naruto was glad that he was barefoot. He would hate to ruin the rugs and have Sasuke rip him apart. He was certain that the Uchiha was capable of that. Naruto stopped moving as he came to the end of the banister. He crouched and studied two men who seemed to look the same. He could tell that they were brothers, but they were locked in combat. As Naruto moved down the banister the fighting became more intense, but there was no clue as to what the brothers were fighting about. The battles became more elaborate and it seemed that it took years for other members to become entangled in the fight. As Naruto kept moving down the banister, the reason for the fight never surfaced. He was almost to the stairs when he felt a presence behind him. Naruto slowly turned around and came face to face with Sasuke. He didn’t realized that time had passed while he had been examining the carvings. Naruto rubbed the back of head and smiled sheepishly, flashing fang as he did so. “Come on moron, we don’t have time for this.” Sasuke’s voice was flat and Naruto wondered why looking at the banister would upset the older vampire. But he wouldn’t dare ask Sasuke anything about it. And since it seemed like Gaara and Sasuke were friends, he would ask the redhead. The trip back to the tea room was heavy with silence. Naruto didn’t know what to say to Sasuke to get to the other to talk to him. He didn’t think he did anything wrong to apologize for. Anyone could look at that banister and have the same curiosity that he did. The blond decided that glaring at Sasuke’s back was the best action right now. He couldn’t really beat the shit out of Itachi right now for what he did. The blond wondered at how a newborns strength compared against an older vampire. “Hey bastard! How does a newborns compare to someone older?” Naruto voice broke through the silence like a knife through butter. Naruto saw Sasuke stiffen before he answered. “Right now you are fairly strong because you can’t control your strength. What makes you a vampire flows strongly through your body and you are very dangerous. As you drink more human blood, the strength will leave you partly. A part of it will always be there and as you grow older you gain back what strength you lost. Are you planning on killing me?” Naruto busted into loud laughter. “No I’m not going to kill you! I wanted to know if I could take that bastard Itachi in a fight! I want to kick his ass for making me this way. I think it might even be crucial to my therapy.” Sasuke had stopped walking and turned around to face Naruto, a small smile gracing his lips. “If we ever come across my brother and we are not in the presence of mortals, you may as you say, kick his ass.” Naruto grinned as the promise was delivered. He couldn’t wait to get his hands on the older vampire now. The blond began to whistle as they continued the walk back to the tea room. He was in a better mood now that he could throw a few punches at Itachi. Of course the other may be some kind of martial arts master and kick Naruto’s ass instead. But that didn’t bother the blond at all. A fight would help calm his nerves for the most part. His father used to hate that he got into fights to calm himself down. But it was what Naruto knew the most. Before Iruka had come along, he was just another orphan on the street trying to stay alive. And he took his frustration out by picking fights with others. Of course he had to be careful with who he picked a fight with. Some people didn’t mind to leave a person lay in the street. And sometimes it took weeks for a body to be found, the stench of a rotting body the only thing leading people to a dead body. But Iruka had come along when he was twelve and began to leave little things for Naruto. He of course hid them so the other kids wouldn’t find them, but the blond always found them no matter where they were hid. The strangers’ kindness was lost on Naruto. He didn’t know why this strange man would care about some street kid who was obviously a nobody. Iruka continued leaving things for a few weeks before he finally interacted with Naruto. He had been standing by the blonds’ normal resting place with a huge smile on his face. Naruto had been hesitant about approaching the man. He had heard stories of course and didn’t want to end up like those kids and perform the kind of services they did. Iruka had seen the blonds’ hesitation and began to talk to Naruto. He told the kid of how he was once like him, but thanks to a kind old man, he was able to live a comfortable life and get an education. He had promised the old man that he would pass on the kindness that he had done one day. But Iruka couldn’t until he had seen Naruto. The blond waited a few moments before he bombarded Iruka with all sorts of questions. And Iruka had answered them in stride. Naruto waited a few more minutes before making a decision. He had told Iruka that he would go with him, but if there was any funny business, he would leave and the brunet would never find him. Iruka smiled and waved for the kid to follow him. Naruto had made sure to keep a fair distance from the man. He wanted to be able to bolt if anything got suspicious. He hadn’t lived as long as he had on the streets by being stupid. When they got to the car, Naruto noticed it was just your everyday person’s car. It wasn’t expensive, but it wasn’t a cheap one either. It didn’t scream ‘creepy pervert’ at him. So he had climbed into the car after Iruka had opened the door for him and things were fairly normal after that. Iruka hadn’t tried anything with him and always seemed to be there if Naruto needed help with anything. It took about a year, but Iruka had gained Naruto’s full trust and it was a year after that the blond began to call Iruka ‘father.’ The life they lived was a happy one until Naruto was kidnapped one night. There was a reason he was living on the streets. When Naruto was just an eight year old boy, his uncle, Kyuubi Uzumaki, had bombed a bank, killing hundreds of people. The citizens of the city had seen Naruto as another Kyuubi. They seemed to have forgotten about his mother, Kushina Uzumaki, who was a well known and loved nurse who was tragically killed in a car accident. Of course Kyuubi had to have picked his birthday as the bombing date. It had taken the police two weeks to find him and by that point Naruto was so traumatized that he wouldn’t even look at Iruka. He had cuts on his cheeks that were crudely starting to heal and they were hot to touch. But that hadn’t stopped Iruka from hugging and grabbing him. Naruto began to cry for the first time in years. Iruka had shown up to save him and for that he was grateful. The man who had kidnapped Naruto was given life in prison and the blond had never seen him again. After that, every time the anniversary of that day came around, Naruto would become nervous and had to pick a fight with someone. He could still remember the torture he had went through for those weeks. And he hated it. He hated that he could remember something like that but yet he could forget his mother’s smile at times. He had never known his father. But from what his mother told him, he loved them very much. But to Naruto, Iruka was his father, not some nameless man that abandoned his family. Again, the pain welled up in Naruto’s chest as he thought about his dad. He was Naruto’s most precious person and he couldn’t stand to hurt him this way. But Sasuke had been clear on what had to be done and no contact was key. He knew that Iruka would be broken once he heard the news of his ‘death.’ He only wished that when he had become a vampire that his feelings had disappeared with his humanity. “Moron, if you keep dwelling on your pain, you’re going to be miserable for the rest of your existence. I know it’s hard for you, but you have to do it.” Sasuke had moved in front of him and gently pushed a lock of blond hair behind Naruto’s ear. The movement was gentle and the blond smiled. “I know Sasuke, but it’s just so hard. I’m fine one minute, but something pops up and I’m reminded of my life and friends.” Naruto said sadly. “It’ll get easier with time. Rome wasn’t built in a day you know.” Naruto stared in amazement at Sasuke. “Did you just try to crack a joke?” Sasuke snorted. “No. I was there when they tried to build it in a day.” Naruto’s blue eyes widened. “Just how fucking old are you?” “You’d be surprised moron. But I think I’ll tell you later. Now, you are to make the phone call to Iruka that the plane is leaving at around eight in the morning. The plane is scheduled to crash at about one in the afternoon. Then everything from there on out will be handled by the media and some human contacts. Everything has been planned so nothing will go wrong.” Naruto felt a knot form in his stomach. He wasn’t sure if he could call Iruka and be cool about this. He didn’t want to give off that anything was wrong. And he knew this was something he had to do on his own. No one else could do it for him and it was more than likely for the best. Because if Iruka knew about his true nature now, then the Elders would more than likely kill Iruka and Naruto didn’t want that fate for his father. “I can do it. You have a phone?” Naruto said with resolve. Sasuke didn’t say anything as he handed Naruto a cell phone. The blond quickly punched in the number and waited for Iruka to pick up. “Hello?” “Hey Dad it’s me! I just wanted to check in and tell you I was doing fine.” Naruto’s voice was steady and did not give away his emotional status. “That’s good! How was the party?” “It was great! A lot of fancy food! And don’t worry Sasuke has been a real gentleman!” “I’m glad you’re having a good time! You’ll have to tell me how you met Sasuke once you get back. He seems like an interesting character! And what’s this about you quitting your job? You were up for a promotion!” Iruka’s voice had gone from pleasant to angry in a split second. Naruto groaned. “I wanted to broaden my horizon! I want to see what other careers are out there!” “You have a degree in that field Naruto! You can’t waste all that education like that!” “Can we discuss this when I get back? Please?” “Fine. When are you coming back?” “The plane is leaving around eight in the morning. So I’m hoping we’ll be there by four.” Naruto held back the crack in his voice, but he couldn’t hold back the blood tears that began to fall. “Do you need me to pick you up?” “Yeah, that’ll be nice. I’ve gotta go Dad. I love you.” “I love you too son.” Naruto ended the call and threw the cell phone into a wall. He couldn’t believe he was about to hurt his most precious person like that! Iruka didn’t deal well with death. That was evident when his boyfriend, Kakashi Hatake, had died while he was on a hiking trip ten years ago. If it had not been for Naruto, the blond was sure Iruka would have wasted away. The blond only wondered who would help him through this tragedy this time. Of course this was all that bastard Itachi’s fault. If the vampire had not tried to seduce him, he could still be living and hanging out with his friends. He wouldn’t have to hurt his father like this. Naruto couldn’t wait to get his hands on the older Uchiha now. He could feel his rage building and the blond didn’t want to stop it. He wanted to hurt something. When his rage came to its peak, he felt arms wrap around him. The presence was calming and the rage was receding. The blond closed his eyes and basked in the presence. Naruto returned the embrace, but was shocked when the body didn’t feel like Sasuke. He pulled back and shocked blue eyes stared into the black eyes of a beautiful woman who resembled Sasuke a lot. The woman smiled gently. “I’m Mikoto Uchiha, Sasuke’s mother. I don’t believe we’ve met.” Naruto gaped at her voice. It was so beautiful! Just like how a mother’s voice should be. And then he remembered his mother’s voice and her smile in that moment. He fiercely hugged the woman again, thanking her. The woman laughed. “And what exactly are you thanking me for?” “For giving me back a precious memory that I had lost.” Naruto wiped away the blood tears with the back of his sleeve. “Memories are never lost dear one, they are only buried by others. Now why don’t you introduce yourself?” “I’m sorry! I’m Naruto Uzumaki! A newborn made by your son Itachi!” “Itachi made you? Really?” Mikoto seemed very confused. “Yes, but I’m afraid it was an accident Mrs. Uchiha.” “You don’t have to call me that! We’re all vampires here and formalities are useless! Just call me Mikoto!” “Okay.” Naruto answered as he shrugged. “Mother, Itachi abandoned Naruto the night he made him. I’m taking responsibility for him. You’ll be seeing him when we visit the mansion on occasion.” Sasuke said as he took a spot next to the blond. “Of course. I can’t believe my son would act so shameful! Leaving a cute newborn like you on your own! You wait until he visits! He’s getting an earful. And just wait until your father gets wind of this! I think I’ll tell him right now!” Mikoto said as she started out of the tea room and went further into the mansion. Naruto turned his head to Sasuke. “Your mother is…normal.” The Uchiha snorted. “Of course! She’s still a mother whether she’s human or vampire moron. Now come on, I’ve found you a meal. Let’s not waste it.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
