AN: I feel I should explain the reason why we chose to use Greek/Roman mythology in a purely japanese culture. In the Buddhist culture, homosexuality is frowned upon even though the teachings may not state it as an abominable sin. And though I checked some resources, we are not very familiar with the religion. However, we are familiar with the Greek and Roman cultures and religion. In these cultures, homosexuality was not only tolerated but acceptable. AN2: Forgive my extreme lateness with this chapter. Life happened.
Iruka woke to an empty bed and he didn't feel any traces of his love inside the apartment. Had Tsunade-sama sent her out on that mission in the middle of the night and in such a hurry that she didn't even have time to say goodbye? Something about this didn't feel right and a knot of worry settled in his stomach. Iruka quickly got out of bed and dressed in his usual chuunin uniform and he pulled his soft brown hair into his normal ponytail. He needed to talk to Hokage-sama, something wasn't right. Tsunade was drunk off her rocker...damn she missed Shizune. The gaki was always there making sure she did her work, but she too was dead. Having been killed by one of Pein's realms...and now she had no one there to annoy her to get back to work...gods she missed her. Iruka knocked on Tsunade's office door timidly before entering. Seeing Konoha's Hokage drunk off her ass saddened him a bit but he knew what she was going through. He walked up to her desk and moved the bottles of sake away from the Hokage's grasp. "Hokage-sama, I need to talk you about Sakura-chan's mission." The blond hokage whined a the loss of her sake and turned bloodshot eyes to the brunette, "Sakara? Mission? She requested a 3 week vacation...she isn't supposed to go on any missions for that time...Why do you think she's on a mission?" The knot in Iruka's stomach coiled even tighter. "She told me you were going to send her on a two week solo mission." Iruka said worriedly. "Why would she lie to me?" Iruka was hurt that Sakura hadn't trusted him, maybe she didn't love him at all...Doubt started to creep inside Iruka's heart. In all of her drunken stupor, words of wisdom were the next that came from her mouth, "Maybe she was trying to protect you so that you wouldn't be hurt. I dunno. I don't know what goes through that gaki's head now a days." Protect him? Silly girl, he was the one that wanted to protect her...From all things that might cause her pain. "Before Sakura-chan left she spent a lot of time in the library, do you have any idea what she was researching Hokage-sama?" Iruka wanted some clue to where his love could have left. "She didn't say anything to me when she asked for the vacation time, but she was adamant about getting on with it right away," Tsunade lay her head back down on her desk, "Now if you don't mind Iruka, I'd like to take a nap now. Don't you have a class to teach?" Iruka clenched his fists at his sides, for the first time he was disappointed at the blond woman sprawled across her desk. He could understand her pain but she still had people left to care about. "I'm sorry to have bothered you," He said in a biting voice. "I'll leave you to drink yourself to death, I'll find Sakura-chan on my own." Iruka turned on his heel and stalked out of the office, slamming the door behind him.
Sakura held the torch she was given by Persephone high above here head as they walked down a stony corridor. It was dark and the further they moved the hotter it got, as if they were headed towards a boiler room. Once they got closer to what appeared to be a dim light, the sounds of screaming brought her guard right up. This had to be the path to Tartarus. Sasuke followed close behind Sakura, sharingan spinning wildly. Sweat was dripping from his heated skin as the heat crawled into his very being setting it on fire. The screaming grew louder and the sounds of chains rattling echoed through the air. Sakura walked on with determined strides and all Sasuke could do was to swallow the lump in his throat and follow. He knew that this was where he'd end up when he died, he didn't deserve to end up somewhere else. Soon they were in a great hallway lined with prison cells. All around them the prisoners groaned in pain or wept in sorrow. But only one cell caught Sakura's attention, the one cell that was eerily quiet, she glanced into it and there lay Naruto. He was naked, deathly thin and his eyes were sunken. His body was littered in scars, his skin sickly pale and his face was gaunt. His head rested on the lap of a silver haired man who also looked worse for ware, and was lovingly stroking the blond head, concern and sadness on his visage. Emerald eyes opened in horror as she broke open the cell door and rushed over to the blond, "NARUTO!!" Sakumo looked up at the pink blur shouting Naruto's name and rushing into the cell. His arms automatically went to cover Naruto's head, to offer him the protection he could. A raven haired male walked into the cell after the woman, looking at the blond in his arms with red eyes. An Uchiha...Had the demons sunken so low that they would let another damned soul torture the frail angel lying on the floor. "Oh Naruto, Please...it's me...Sakura...Say something," The pinkette fell to her knees before the blond and the older man, tears spilling from her green eyes, "My gods he's so badly injured...who did this to you, Naruto? Please speak to me." But the blond didn't move or even flinch when she placed her hands on his exposed arm. Sakumo watched the girl in wide eyed surprise. This was Naruto's "sister", the medic nin, what was she doing here? By her aura he could sense that she was alive. He grabbed a soft, warm arm with his bony sunken in hand. "Please," He croaked. "Please save him!" Sakura tried to use her healing chakra but it was doing no good on a wounded soul, "I'm sorry...I can't...Naruto please...open your eyes please! Sasuke! Help me! Talk to him!" Sasuke walked into the cell and knelt besides the silent blond. "Hnn come on dobe, get your lazy ass of the floor." Sasuke bent down even more and whispered in his ear. "Get up now Usuratonkachi or this will just be another thing I've beaten you in." Sasuke was calling Naruto's competitive side and he only hoped it would work. Blue empty eyes opened briefly at Sasuke and Sakura's voices, "Sasuke...Sakura-chan...tesu...kette..." And they closed again once more not to open again for a long time. "Naruto..." Sakura's voice cracked when the name passed her lips, tears flowing in rivulets from her eyes. Sasuke grabbed a thin hand and squeezed it gently. "Come on dobe, open those baby blues...Show us your strength." His red eyes flickered towards the white haired man holding Naruto tenderly, something about him looked familiar but he couldn't put his thumb on what. "Sakura...Is there nothing more we can do?" he looked towards the crying girl. "We can't convince him to go with us in this condition...we need Kakashi..." the pinkette wiped the tears from her eyes, "Perhaps if he saw Kakashi again then maybe he'll come back with us." Sakumo jerked at the mentioning of his son's name! His own fear of meeting his son clashed with the knowledge that he could be the one to save Naruto. He looked at the strange pair in their tiny cell. "You must hurry..." He rasped out. "Sunshine is fading." He looked at them as he stroked a whiskered cheek. "GO!!! Find Kakashi...find Sunshine's love." "Where is he? Is he here?" Sakura grabbed the man's shoulder making him look at her straight in the eyes, "Tell me where I can find him, please?" Sakumo's whole body jerked back and forward as the surprisingly strong girl shook him. His thin brittle bones groaned under her touch. "Kakashi died as a protector, a hero. He's in the Elysian fields. I don't know where it is, we residing here are not allowed there." Suddenly he remembered that he still had Despair's ring. "Here take this, try to call its owner, maybe he can help you..." He handed Sakura the heavy golden ring with trembling hands. Sakura looked at the ring curiously then nodded to the man, "Thank you Oji-san. Sasuke, stay here with Naruto and Oji-san. I'm going to try to get Kakashi. Keep Naruto and Oji-san safe." Sasuke looked as if he wanted to object before nodding and sitting down next to Naruto, he would protect his dobe. "Be careful Sakura-chan," He growled. "Remember that Iruka is waiting for you so don't do anything stupid." He smirked lightly. "In other words, do exactly the opposite of what I would do..." Sakura smiled, "I'll succeed, and I'll be back with one copy nin in tow. Don't let anything happen to these two, or you'll regret it! Shannaro!" A confident smile crossed her lips as she darted out of the cell and disappeared.
Iruka walked up to the lavender eyed girl. "Hinata-chan, could you cover me at the academy today. Something important came up and I have to leave." The dark haired girl nodded shyly and Iruka was relieved. After thanking her he hurried to the library and walked up to the information desk. "Hi is there any possibility to find out what books have been checked out lately?" He asked. Iruka knew it was a long shot but he needed to start somewhere. He'd found out that the Uchiha was missing too, he didn't know if that worried or comforted him. "Hmmm...There were a few checked out yesterday evening...by Haruno Sakura." The librarian said as he opened his ledger, "Lets see...The tale of Eros and Psyche...The Adventures of Hercules...and the tale of Orpheus...those are the only ones she took." "Thank you very much for your help." Iruka said politely and then he walked out of the library. Sakura had to have left those books at the apartment somewhere so he would go back there and check. By the titles alone he suspected what Sakura had done. He should have known that she couldn't ignore a suffering Naruto, he just wished that she had taken him with her where ever she had gone. He closed his eyes and thought of his love, he hoped that some way she could feel his love and support. With slightly slumped shoulders he walked towards their apartment, he had books to read.
Sakura walked through a corridor where the demi-god Despair had directed her to go. She had needed help, but didn't trust the raven. So in a pledge of good faith, the demon gave her his cloak of remembrance, without it if she set foot in the fields she would forget why she was there and forget what she came for thinking that she belonged there. She saw a light at the end of the corridor and stepped into it. Surrounding her was a wondrous field with a forest and a nearby river. Her eyes were wide with wonder as she looked around at the beauty surrounding her. Kakashi was sitting in a small field watching Rin picking flowers and Jiraiya ogling her behind as she bent over. Minato was lying beside him watching the clouds. For some reason Kakashi felt jittery, he didn't know why but he was restless. He chuckled as Rin slapped Jiraiya with an outraged squawk as the old pervert had pinched her ass, the white haired man would never learn and Kakashi loved him for it. As he watched the squabble between his friends he could see a figure stepping out from the leafy forest in the other side of the clearing. He squinted his eyes but the figure wore a cloak, he couldn't see who it was. Sakura lowered the hood of her cloak and glanced over to where she could hear laughter and play. And there he was, before her, the great copy nin. She rushed quickly through the field towards him, her voice laced with desperation, "Kakashi-sensei!" Kakashi blinked curiously as he watched the pink haired girl running towards him like she had the devil on her heels and latching on to his arm. "S-Sakura-chan, what a surprise," He said happily. "What are you doing here?" "You need to come with me...Please!" the pinkette pleaded desperately, "I need you to help me. It's Naruto! Please, Naruto needs your help!" Kakashi's brow furrowed as Sakura pulled on him to get him to go with her, he didn't understand what she was talking about. "What do you mean Sakura-chan? Who is this Naruto?" Kakashi asked in a puzzled tone. The kunoichi shrank away from the copy nin in horrified surprise, "You don't remember Naruto? Our teammate? The person who loved you beyond the measure of his soul?" The twinge inside Kakashi was back, gnawing inside him but he still didn't know what his former pupil was talking about. "Teammate? Our team is you, Sasuke and Sai. I have never heard of a Naruto before. Are you feeling alright Sakura-chan." Kakashi looked at her concerned, had she been exposed to some strange jutsu? Jiraiya looked at Kakashi and the young woman grabbing him in surprise. He remembered her as one of Tsunade's students and that he thought she seemed levelheaded and intelligent. He sighed and shook his mane of white hair, apparently Tsunade had managed to break another one. Naruto was a fishcake and not a person. Minato watched in fascination, he didn't know the girl or the person she was talking about. Maybe she was one of Kakashi's lovers and this was her attempt to regain the copy nin's attention. Kakashi saw by the blank looks on his friends faces that they hadn't heard of this Naruto person either. "Sakura-chan, Naruto doesn't exist." "How could you say that? All of you!" She glanced at Minato, "Naruto's your son! How could you not remember your own child? And Jiriaya-sama! You trained Naruto for years, you even took him from Konoha to train with you for 3 years so he could protect himself from the Akatsuki! What is wrong with you people?!" The three men looked at each other with concern and pity, the poor child was obviously off her rocker and they wondered what had happened to make her so delusional. Kakashi leaned down and placed a gloved hand on one of her cheeks, then he preceded to talk to her as if she was a five year old. "Sakura-chan...come and meet this nice per...errr man over here and let him look at you. I think you might have hit your head sweetie because you're not making any sense." He beckoned her towards Jiraiya wanting the man to check for traces of some jutsu or injury. The pinkette's hand balled into a fist and putting all her pain and anger at losing something so precious like Naruto, along with a considerable amount of chakra (it wouldn't kill him anyway, he was already dead) into her punch knocking Kakashi clear across the field, "How dare you! How dare you forget Naruto!! He loved you! He died because he loved you! And now the light and hope in our village is gone and there's nothing but death there!" She glanced at Minato, fury in her emerald eyes, "And you, forgetting your own child, that you sacrificed to seal the Kyuubi in! Who suffered because you sealed it inside of him! " Then her glare fell onto Jiriaya, "And you, the person he looked up to as a grandfather! Did you already forget him though he killed Pein to avenge you and Kakashi? He's tried so hard and had been though so much for all of you, and you dare to forget him?! A wise man once told me, 'Those who break the rules are trash, but those who forget their comrades are worse than trash'! I guess that makes all three of you worse than trash!" She spit on the ground in front of them, "I don't need any of you! I'll go save Naruto myself!" Kakashi's head was ringing as he lay sprawled across the field where Sakura's powerful punch had thrown him. Suddenly images of sunshine blond hair and eyes bluer than blue invaded his mind. He remembered the feeling of petal soft lips on his own and the tears on golden cheeks as a black haired man took him away from Kakashi....Oh Kami, how could he ever have forgotten Naruto? The love of his life. Minato was sitting with his head in his hands also crying and even the old pervert looked sad, they all remembered now. Kakashi got up at started to run back towards Sakura. "Sakura-chan, wait! Have you seen Naruto, is he in pain? How can we save him?" Kakashi was desperate as he fought to catch up with the kunoichi. His love needed help. He felt like he had betrayed Naruto by forgetting him and now sharp claws scratched at his heart making it hurt more than he thought possible. Sakura glanced back at Kakashi with anger and tear-filled emerald eyes, "His soul is broken. He's barely hanging on and he's fading. Soon there will be nothing left of him in existence except for a memory. I'm going to bring him home to Konoha where he belongs. I don't need help from someone who could forget him so easily." She turned back to where she was headed and started going towards the exit of the fields. Kakashi couldn't breathe, he wanted to kick and scream and hurt someone but all he could do was stand there and concentrate on getting air into his burning lungs. Sakura was right, he didn't deserve to help Naruto...He didn't deserve him period. He wanted to help him though, afterwards he would bow out gracefully but he needed to save Naruto to see him one last time. "Sakura please," He called. "It wasn't my choice to forget Naruto, I love him! You are right I don't deserve him but please let me help you." Kakashi's voice broke at the end and came out as a hoarse whisper. He watched his former student with tears running from his mismatched eyes. "Kakashi-sensei...if you want to save Naruto...you have to come back to Konoha too," Sakura stated, "Because...he won't go home without you." She glanced back at Kakashi, with sad eyes, "He loved you so much it killed him when you died. He thought the two of you could be together again if only he died. So he took his own life so he could join you in death...and be at your side forever." Kakashi remembered the starry night when Naruto came to see him here and the feeling of his body against his own. He remembered everything now, the fight against Pein and him losing. He felt so sad that Naruto had taken his own life but he knew that if things had been the other way around he would have done the same thing. "I'll do anything for Naruto," Kakashi said to Sakura earnestly. "I'd lay down my life for him, trade my soul for his...Sakura-chan I w-want to be with him too, he is my other half, my perfect someone." "Then come with me, Kakashi-sensei," The pinkette extended her hand to him, "You're his only hope now...now that all his hope is gone..." There was a sad look in her eyes as she beckoned him to follow. Kakashi took the young woman's hand, squeezing it a bit for comfort as they walked across the green fields and abundance of flowers. Suddenly the beauty of this place seemed empty to Kakashi, he knew that his heaven existed only within the arms of a blue eyed angel and he was going to fight for him...for them. With new determination Kakashi walked besides Sakura. 'I'm coming love, please hang on' TBC...
