A/N: Chapter 5 is posted.
If you’ve never been to Lego Land in the Mall of America, well all I can is you are lucky. It’s not that it doesn’t have possibilities, but the fact of the matter is it’s cramped and there are tons of kids screaming around in there. I much preferred the log ride in Camp Snoopy.
Review Responses:
Bluesrabbit11: I’m glad you like it. I’m working on the last few chapters right now.
Jess249: Sasuke’s family has some pretty crappy things up their sleeves, but they don’t come out just yet. Keep an eye out though.
Charmpit: Speedy updates occur because I stay at home mom. It’s been raining a lot, so we’ve been inside watching Spongebob. I always just see Naruto as kind of naively optimistic. He’d think the only reason Sasuke would come down is cuz Sasuke misses him. Of course, in this story, if he weren’t so responsible, Sasuke might just do that.
Chapter 5.
I smirked as I walked into the lobby of Motel 6. I thought for sure they’d be staying at a nicer motel, but I guess I was wrong. Of course, they were little punks like I was. I generally didn’t care where I stayed. My family might require the finer things in life, but I didn’t. I glanced at my watch. It was 5 in the morning. All I wanted to do was find Naruto and crash.
I checked the last text I’d received. Room 5. They would leave me a key. I stopped at the front desk. “Hello, Miss,” I said to the front desk woman. “I should have a key waiting for me. Uchiha Sasuke.”
She smiled. I rolled my eyes. She looked like she was 18 at the most. “Of course, Mr. Uchiha,” she rummaged behind the desk. “I am sorry, but I was told to see ID before giving this key out.”
I nodded. I was glad Naruto was taking everything seriously. Thinking on it, it was probably Kiba or Hinata that decided to add that little security check. I handed over my driver’s license. She smiled and handed me the key. “If there’s anything you need, please don’t hesitate to call.”
I nodded. “Thank you. I’m sure my boyfriend will take care of it though; I just want to sleep.” I smirked as I left. Usually they didn’t notice the word boyfriend until I’d gone. A few times I’d been lucky enough to see the reaction. Mostly it seemed like they were disappointed that I hadn’t been straight and sometimes it seemed like they were disgusted. I didn’t really care either way.
I made my way to room 5 and unlocked the door. I sighed as I set down my suitcase. Itachi had promised to check my mail until I got back. I planned on being back by the weekend so that I could help him move in. I’d all ready left messages for my professors sort of explaining the situation. I saw Naruto in the bed closest to the door. I went to the bathroom and cleaned up before sliding into bed next to Naruto. I wrapped my arms around his waist and snuggled against his back. His body relaxed instantly and I dropped off to sleep beside him.
It was noon when I woke. Naruto was no longer in the bed with me. I stretched and opened my eyes slowly. I sat up when I heard the door open. Naruto shut the door quietly and tip-toed into the room. I smirked. “I’m up, idiot.” The smile in my voice giving no credence to my words.
Naruto laughed. “I brought some good coffee and a couple of donuts. The band has a radio appearance soon. I was wondering if you wanted to come with us.” He sat the coffee and donuts down next to the bed and sat beside me, taking my hand.
I looked at our entwined fingers. “I want to, but I have business here that I need to deal with. I need to talk to my uncle before I can do anything else. Will you call me when you finish?” I looked into his eyes, expecting to find some kind of hurt. Instead there were only the same bright blue, sparkling eyes.
Naruto nodded. “Family shit. Got it. I feel the same way with Kiba’s family. They took me in.”
I smiled and pulled Naruto down to me quickly. I kissed his lips tenderly. I wanted to keep my heart for myself, but I found I was lost as soon as I’d first kissed the man. Maybe I was his even before that. Whatever the case, I was addicted. “You’ll call though, right?”
Naruto smiled and I was blinded. “Yes, I will call. You owe me though.” He smiled and got off the bed. “I should go though. Hinata and Ten-Ten want to dress me today.” He shrugged helplessly. “I can’t say no to them.”
I smirked. “I hope they dress you in purple and make you wear heels. It would teach not to say no to people.”
Naruto laughed and waved before walking out of the room. I pulled out the phone and dialed my uncle’s number. “Obito?” I waited for the reply on the other end of the line. “Right, can I come over?”
Obito sighed. “Was it Itachi or your dad who told you?”
I growled, “It was the man who calls himself my father. Itachi just confirmed things for me. Look, I’m worried about something specific though and I need to talk to you.”
Obito sounded defeated. “Yeah, meet me at the Mall of America in an hour. Um, I’ll meet you in Lego Land.”
I sighed. “All right. I assume you have a reason for the meeting place other than annoying the shit out of me.” I hung up and got in the shower quickly before dressing and getting into my car. I didn’t know whether or not I was being trailed, so I changed my mind. I got out of my car and went to the front desk.
The woman behind the desk wasn’t the same woman from this morning, but she looked like she was about the same approximate age. “Could you get me a cab? I apologize, but it seems like I lent my keys to my friends and I can’t use my car.”
The girl smiled and blushed. “Of course.” She made a call and looked at me. “They should be here in the next 10 minutes.” She leaned over the desk a little. “You could either wait out here or you could grab a bite in the kitchen area.”
I smiled. It was the fake ‘Thank-you-so-much-even-though-you-are-a-total-idiot-who-doesn’t-realize-she-doesn’t-stand-a-chance’ smile, but she never noticed. Fake had been my life. I didn’t know anything about my family. I didn’t know the ‘wholesome’ façade they built up in North Dakota was an act. I honestly had thought my father was just the guy who invented a restaurant. “Thank you,” I said, standing by the door looking for the cab.
I tossed a handful of bills at the driver. I knew it was plenty. “Look, I’ve got $500 for you personally if you are back here, in this spot, in 2 hours.” The guy nodded. Cabbies are all so greedy. Well, maybe that was a generalization, but I’d grown up rich and we generalized.
I snarled at a little child that had just run into my legs for the third time in Lego Land. What the fuck was Obito thinking, meeting in here? I felt a hand on my shoulder and I almost let a punch fly. I turned to see my uncle’s eyes smiling at me. If you didn’t know the man, you’d think he didn’t have a mean bone in his body. As it was, he was perhaps one of the most ruthless men in the family. “Want to get out of here and hit a coffee shop?”
I scowled but nodded, flicking the kid on the forehead as he hit my legs yet again. I smirked with some satisfaction as I heard the kid start crying. Serves him right. What person doesn’t know to watch where they are running by the time they are 6 or 7? I followed my uncle in silence as I waited for him to get to the point. We had coffee now and were sitting outside the store at a table. “Well, spill it, Obito. What the fuck is this all about?”
Obito sighed. His dark eyes appeared to actually contain pain and sorrow. “I made him swear he’d leave you out of it. Itachi got sucked in young and I always regretted not being able to keep him free of the family.” He took a sip of his coffee and sighed, frowning. “Uchiha Enterprises is into some really illegal shit. It’s the kind of illegal shit that’s unofficially sanctioned by the government. The kind of things your father handles are the ‘ruin the guy running against me’ kind of things. At least that’s the way it used to be.”
I nodded. I’d never known that, but it followed with what my father had told me last night. “And? What is it like now?”
Obito’s eyes hardened. “Your family, excluding myself, Itachi, and you, are basically the mafia. Madara is the ring leader, but your father is second. Secluding himself in that shithole in North Dakota and establishing the ‘fairy tale’ family was part of his cover. Your father has been responsible for numerous deaths. The last I heard a member of one of his rival families decided he wants you. Your father is planning on selling you off to him for favors.”
I sighed and ran a hand through my spiky hair. “That red headed bastard, huh? That’s who my father wants to sell me off to.”
Obito nodded. “He’s a member of a rival family, but he came to your father with a proposition. They’ve been tailing you and found out about your new boyfriend, who I want to meet by the way. I don’t know what they are planning, but I’ve got Itachi working on it. I got him out of the family and I’m not letting you fall into their hands.”
I smiled. It was one of my genuine smiles. They were reserved for people who truly had my respect, so not many people ever saw them. “Thanks, Obito.” I jumped when my cell started ringing. “Shit!”
Obito laughed as I reached into my pocket and flipped open the phone, “Hey,” I knew the smile was evident in my voice.
“Hey, Sas,” Naruto’s voice greeted me. “We’re done now. What do you want to do?”
I looked at Obito and mouthed ‘lunch’, shrugging my shoulders to indicate the question. He nodded. “Naruto, want to go to lunch? I was thinking maybe we could go to the Bryant Lake Bowl?”
“Never been. Where’s that at?” I smiled at Naruto’s enthusiasm.
“It’s on Bryant, in Minneapolis itself. Your driver should know where it’s at. If not, just ask someone for directions.” I said my goodbyes and stood up. “Well, Obito, I guess you get to meet him sooner than I planned on.” I walked toward the cabbie I’d told to meet me there. “You can take off,” I tossed the money in the window anyway. “I’ve got other transportation.”
Obito laughed as we walked toward his car. “So, you were smart enough not to take your car. I’m impressed.”
I glared at him. “I wasn’t born an Uchiha and not come out with at least a little brains.” I sighed and shook my head. “I can’t believe it was all a lie. I feel like my entire life has been ripped away from me.” I paused and smiled, “Well not my entire life…just my childhood. I’m really glad I decided to take care of myself lately.”
Obito drove like a fucking madman. I growled as we skidded to a stop in the parking lot. “You’re going to kill someone someday you sick fuck.”
Obito just laughed. “Well, I haven’t yet. I don’t see what the problem is. You’d never last in a real city, Sas. This is how we all drive.”
I rolled my eyes and unbuckled. I walked toward the small restaurant/bowling alley. Naruto wasn’t here yet. I smiled that fake smile at the waitress. “Any chance I can get a table for 6?”
She blushed, pushing a blue strand of hair behind her ear. She blushed when she saw Obito, too. The man was good looking and dressed up scale. She nodded. “Certainly. Just a moment.”
I sighed and turned my head to the door just in time to see my blondie walking through. I smiled and my whole body visibly relaxed. I turned around and crossed my arms over my chest. “How was the interview?”
Naruto wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my lips softly. “Boring without you.” He blushed when he realized that my uncle and his band were all smirking at him. He scratched the back of his head and looked around. “This is a cute place.”
I laughed softly and glanced over at the slightly embarrassed waitress. She must have thought I was hitting on her before. “Uh, your table is ready,” she said with a forced smile.
Naruto smiled at her and she relaxed. “Thanks a lot,” he said. The six of us made our way to the table. Naruto and Obito sat on either side of me and the rest of Naruto’s band sat across from us on the other side of the table. The sounds of bowling could be heard as we looked over our menus. I’d been here before and I knew what I wanted.
The waitress came to take our orders. “I’ll have water and a veggie sandwich.” The others took turns ordering. Naruto had a soda, but only a salad for food. I mocked him just a little about being a girl.
I sighed. “Okay, everyone this is my uncle Obito,” I said to my new friends. “Uncle, this is Any Time the Fly. Next to me is my boyfriend, Naruto. Across from him is Hinata, then Kiba, and Ten-Ten is across from you.”
Obito smiled and shook hands with each of them. “It’s nice to meet Sasuke’s friends. I hadn’t actually met any of his friends yet.”
I shook my head. “You’re an ass Uncle Obito.” I smiled though. Especially after our conversation this afternoon I knew he meant well. Naruto had taken my hand in his. I rubbed my thumb against his palm.
The waitress returned with our drinks and I smiled at her. I felt kind of bad for giving her the wrong impression. “Thank you,” I nodded as she handed out drinks. There was small talk until the food arrived. When we finished eating I looked at Obito. “We have to tell them.” He nodded. “Let’s go back to the motel, okay?”
Naruto nodded. “I want to ride with Sasuke, if there aren’t any objections?” Obito shook his head and so did Kiba. “Good, meet you there,” he said giving Hinata a hug.
The drive was kind of quiet. Naruto sat behind me and put his head on the seat rest and his hands around my waist. I was content sitting there just feeling Naruto near me. I didn’t want my family to have anything to do with him. He was so perfect and trusting and a spot of bubbly sunshine that I never wanted to be without.
When we arrived at the motel, Obito sweet-talked the front desk lady to close down the pool to anyone except us. Naruto and I changed into our suits. Well, I changed into one of Naruto’s spare suits, since I hadn’t planned on swimming. Naruto smirked, “You look good, Sasuke. If there wasn’t a pressing matter to which we had to attend, I’d be ripping those shorts off of you by now.”
I laughed. “Yeah, well, I’d want you to.” I frowned. “Naruto, this is pretty serious. I,” my voice faltered as I choked on my emotions. “I’ll understand if you don’t want to be with me after this.” I looked at the floor. I couldn’t bear to look into his eyes.
I felt soft hands titling my chin until I had no choice but to look into those deep blue eyes. “No matter what, I’ll face it with you. I don’t plan on ever letting you go.” He pressed his lips to mine in a sensual kiss, wrapping his strong hands in my hair.
I smiled when the kiss was finally broken. “We should get to the pool. I’m sure everyone else is all ready there.”
Naruto held his hand out to me and I took it. We walked to the pool and saw the rest of the group in the hot tub. “All right, Uchiha,” Kiba growled in my direction. “Tell us what the fuck is up.”
I sighed and shook my head. “Until last night’s incident, I had no idea who or what my family truly was. My uncle Obito, my brother, and I are apparently the only ones not involved. My family is trying to sell me to a once rival family to strengthen bonds. After you left yesterday night, I was visited by a member of that family that told me he would get what he wanted and what he wanted was me.”
Naruto’s eyes were full of pain. “There’s something no one but the band knows about me, Sasuke.” He closed those beautiful eyes and when they opened they were filled with pain. “I was once sold off to pay a drug debt. I was only 15, and it’s been 6 years since then. I’m happy now, but I know what that future holds and I absolutely refuse to let you fall to the same fate.”
I wanted to cry and look at him with pity, but I knew that would be the complete wrong thing to do. I knew pity would make Naruto sad, so instead I took his hand and gently kissed his fingers. “Thank you, Naruto.” I kissed his cheek softly before turning to Obito. “How can I stop them from ruining that concert?”
Obito smirked. “Don’t worry. I’ve got that taken care of. I might not be part of the family mafia, but I’ve got a lot of connections. Connections that it is best you know nothing about, Sasuke-kun.”
I nodded. “I know you guys have your show tonight.” I turned to Kiba, “I have to get back to my family and jobs anyway, but you’ll keep in touch with me about any threats right?”
Kiba nodded. “I get that it’s not you. I understand that you didn’t know about your family, so I won’t hold that against you or try to keep you from Naruto because of it.” He sighed. “Sasuke, I’m sorry you’re going through this, but you have to know where most of our loyalty lies.”
I frowned. “With Naruto, where it belongs.” I sighed. I knew that they would be worried more about him than about me. It would be weird if it were otherwise. I knew my friends back home would take care of me and I was just glad that Naruto had people he could depend on.
Obito cleared his throat. “I want you all to pay attention to your surroundings at all times. It’s not safe for any of you to be completely alone. That’s the kind of target a hit man likes best. I’m not sure they’d resort to that, but after 5 weeks, if Sasuke still denies his father, Fugaku will be very angry.”
I growled. “I’ll find some way to bring the ass down.” I was seething. I wished I had my friends here. They knew the trick to calm me down. “I suppose the reason I was never sent to the police over that altercation was because of him, huh?” The question was directed to Obito.
“I remember that one. That kid had it coming, but still it was a serious assault. I can only assume your father used his dirty influence to settle the matter privately.” Obito sighed. “It’s really not something I was privy to.”
I shook my head and whispered to the band, “I’m sorry. I guess you would have been better off never meeting me.”
I didn’t see it coming and my head wrenched back as Naruto’s fist connected with my jaw. “Don’t ever say something so fucking stupid again.”
I looked up to see the hurt in his eyes. “There are a million other stupid things you could have said, but never say that. I’m glad I met you. I’m in love with you. We can figure it out together. I think we need each other.” He wrapped his arms around my shoulders and pulled me close, laying soft kisses on the top of my head. “Tell me that I don’t belong to you or that you don’t belong to me and mean it, if you can.”
I sighed and rubbed my jaw. It was my fault. I’d basically just trashed the fact that he had said I love you to me. I closed my eyes and collected my thoughts. “You’re right of course. No one takes something that is mine from me.” I smirked and sighed at the same time. “You’re going to ruin me. I’ve never apologized for something before.”
