Secrets
The dark haired teen scanned the area through his
binoculars a second time. He frowned as he found no suspects nearby.
“Psst… Sasuke-kun…
maybe we can move now.” My legs hurt from sitting in the same spot for hours
you jerk!
They were being chased from the deserted city to this
forest by a bunch of weirdos. They pursuers looked
almost like humans… yet they were not. They were already aware of that fact
ever since they accepted this mission. There were no details on the subject,
their captain only told them that they may look like human but they really weren’t and that was the only clue they had before going
through the horrendous task. After a couple of hours they confirmed the
species…
“Its
too early for them to give up… besides… the rumors were true.”
“So we completed our mission right? All we have left
is to write the report… so why don’t-”
“Shh!” the dark haired teen
lowered his binoculars with one hand and clamped his hand on the pink haired
teen then lowered themselves further under the bushes, “Something’s coming this
way.”
True to his word. One
of their pursuers was walking about the clearing in the forest. Looking around sniffing. Then two others approached his way.
This was no good. The opponent’s numbers were increasing again and their sense
of smell, from last three hours of observation, found deadly accurate. Simply
saying, they were in big trouble. They don’t have enough time to make another
escape.
“Sakura… we don’t have a choice,” he whispered taking
out his gun, never taking his eyes off the creatures.
Sakura mentally groaned before taking out her one as
well mumbling something like ‘here we go again’. Just as they got up from their
hiding something hit on the back of their heads and they fell into the
darkness. The last thing they saw was a pair of fangs.
+++
A fine night like this calls for hunt. The moon was
calling them but not as strong as she is in her true form. Only that time she
blesses them with all her light…and its only a week
away until she changes.
“Boss! We found free
food!” one of the underlings said, came running towards him before abruptly
stopping at a good distance from him.
Kiba raised an
eyebrow questioningly but didn’t say anything, only prompted him to continue.
He knew he smelled them earlier entering the forest but didn’t bother keeping
track. Even though the scent felt somewhat familiar he couldn’t remember who
they belonged to. That same scent was coming from two of his subordinates’
cloths…
“Two of them! Fresh meat boss!” Kiba narrowed
his eyes, this was definitely unusual. Did someone have a death wish? Or are
these foreigners? There was no way the weaklings would step in their territory
in their right minds. Kiba tried to think
rationally despite the hunger for bloodshed started to kick into his system.
The other sensed the slight change in their leader and
started to tremble, “B-Boss… w-what should we do?”
“Bring them to me.” Unharmed.
A nudge from the great white beast beside him brought
him back to reality and he smiled at the giant creature ruffling its head.
“Don’t worry buddy… I’m keeping my promise,” the beast
barked happily in response.
The scent grew stronger as the two of his subordinates
returned with two sleeping bodies on their shoulders like potato sacks. Kiba’s eyes widened in surprised. These scent… he could
never forget who they belonged to but the question is… how?
“Leave.” He barked as he stood up and everyone
was out of sight. His partner whimpered as he sniffed the humans. “There’s no
doubt…” he told as his eyes turned red for a few seconds before returning to
the normal black, “…its them Akamaru.”
The dark haired teen heard the footsteps and the
sniffing but didn’t dare to look up until he felt them very close. His eyes
shot open revealing a pair of black orbs before turning to see the familiar
presence, but only to find a giant white beast and a spiky haired teen. He
gasped and reached his holster for his gun but only to find it empty as he
shook the pink haired girl, “Wake up! Sakura! Wake up you moron!” all the while
glaring at the brunette and the beast.
“There’s no need for violence Uchiha.”
Kiba glared back at him then frowned when he looked
at the other’s eyes while ignoring the surprised expression. He too was
surprised to find the Uchiha managed to lose that
freaky pair of eyes somehow but didn’t say it out loud. “Why are you alive? If
it weren’t for the pinky,” he glanced at the said girl before turning back to
the dark haired teen, “I’d think your ghost was haunting me.”
“Who…” Sasuke had difficulty
speaking as his throats felt awfully dry to continue, “…are you? Why do you…
know my name?” he glared at the brunette while trying to remember him.
“Genius with a bad memory.” The
brunette looked grim at his question. “Here I thought I’d forget about you
after your so called death,” Sasuke
was surprised to hear about his mortality state once again, “…and look what it
has turned to…” Kiba petted Akamaru’s
head before speaking again, “I’ll show you the way out of here. Once you’re out
never come back.”
Sasuke’s eyes narrowed
further at the command, “I’m not leaving without an answer!”
“What? Do you wish to challenge me human?” Kiba gritted his teeth, he was
close to breaking his promise now. If it were any other human then he’d
probably have more control but it was Sasuke. That person’s most precious person. “Listen… get out of here before you become meal of anyone-”
“Why do you know my name?!”
“Its
not my problem if can’t remember me Uchiha!” Kiba felt his canines sharpen, “But if you have a death
wish by sticking around, I will not help you escape the second time.”
That brought him back to his senses. Right now he
shouldn’t be trying to overpower someone who’s showing him a bit of mercy after
all these hectic hours. Akamaru. Sasuke wondered that first name
he heard and studied his appearance for a moment.
Kiba has a dog, Saske!
He said we could play with him! Isn’t that cool!
His eyes widened as he took in the size of the white
beast beside the brunette then turned back to the owner. “Inuzuka…?”
“Finally remembered me?” Kiba
spat, “Good. Now get lost before I lose my patience.” And kill you.
But how can this be… “What happened
to Konoha?” despite the information from his
superiors, he still needed some proof that the snarky old geezer was behind all
this.
Kiba lowered his
head, trying to not to look at those eyes. It was not right for Uchihas to have those kinds of eyes. No one has ever asked
him that and hearing it after long 9 painful years, it was too much. He wasn’t
responsible for what happened to this city, no one was… but her…
“Lot has happened since you died that day Uchiha-”
“Do I look dead to you!” he was irritated listening to
that now, but the mention of that day brought him back more painful
memories. Kiba was talking about the last day he was
in Konoha without a doubt. He vaguely wondered if
anyone came to visit him in the hospital or not. He wondered if his best
friend- no… he mentally corrected himself. He hurt him that day and their
friendship seemed to be broken… he made sure of that too…he was such a fool.
“Hmph… though you don’t look
like it, it would’ve been better if you were.” The brunette gritted sitting
down on a rock, “I don’t know why you came back from wherever you came back
from but I intend to return you there A-S-A-P, so wake up pinky. I don’t have
all day…”
“I’d like to hear what happened to this city from
someone sane enough to talk before we decide to leave.” He glared at him
before looking at the unconscious figure on the ground and suddenly remembered
his partner. “Sakura, wake up you moron!” she shook her violently until she
opened her eyes and squeaked.
“Still the same o’l pinky I
see…” Kiba snorted and green eyes narrowed hearing
that.
“What did you say!” as soon as that escaped her lips Akamaru’s snout was in front of her face and she paled,
“…eh…s-sorry…” before she knew a huge tongue started to slobber on her face,
“E-EWW!! Stop that!” the said creature stopped and
returned to his master sitting by him wagging his tail.
“Sakura… that’s Inuzuka…” Sasuke told her and she frowned for a second before
remembering a certain noisy dog-lover from her kindergarten. Her eyes widened
in shock as she too glanced at the beast sitting obediently beside the
brunette.
“But h-how…I thought-”
“We died after this city was rampaged by those
bloodsuckers and our pack?” finished the sentence for her and snorted, “You
really are foolish to think the pack is weak…human.”
“Kiba… what happened? How
did this happen to you? Were you unable to escape on board that day?”
“I never got on the ship to begin with. This is my
home. Why should I leave-”
“Then why are you so set on to send us away huh?” Sasuke’s eyes narrowed, “This is our home too!”
“It was.” He quickly continued before they
could interrupt, “But it’s a mess now…after our leader gives us his orders,
we’ll make our move.” His voice contained concern speaking out the last one,
“We plan to remove all the blood suckers so that the few left humans and the
pack can live together again. That is our leader’s ideals.” Hardly
he thought, as he lied smoothly.
“You mean to take over Konoha?”
Sakura gasped in shock while Sasuke caught on the
‘few left humans’ part and pondered about it.
“No. You make it sound like we’re the bad guys here…”
the brunette muttered irritably, “Anyway… if you decide to live here then come
back after we settled the scores with those bastards….”
“Take us to your leader. We want to have a word with
him.” Sasuke told sternly.
“I don’t take orders from you humans!” Kiba growled standing up.
“It was a request you werewolf!” Sasuke retorted.
“Request denied!” Kiba’s
fangs started to show, “You want to fight?”
Sakura quickly jumped between the two and held them
back, “We don’t want to fight. Please stop both of you!” at that both backed
away and sat on the forest floor,“Tell
us what started all these… how did vampires and werewolves appear in Konoha?” I thought they’re only in books and myths…
she pondered. But I did see them that day…
Kiba felt defeated
and lowered his head. She was after all… the one in his leader’s mind half the
time. Ironically, the other half was occupied by the Uchiha.
Even if its mourning his supposedly death…. He
felt the pang of jealousy. Why did Uchiha always
win…? It was unfair. But for the girl’s sake, who could be his leader’s mate in
the future, he’d tell them a minimum.
“Our master appeared the first time and stained the
mother moon with all his sacrifices… it was a perfect night that awakened us
but… it too awakened them…shortly after that… master disappeared.” The brunette
sighed and looked up at the now darkening sky, “The first time she* appeared…
she transformed all of us that were destined to lead this path. Those who
didn’t change… they were killed sooner or later by either us… or them.” He
didn’t want to tell them if any humans were left alive and make their presence
longer so he added quickly, “What has started the fight? I’m not sure,” he
lied, “But vampires and werewolves never got along in the past and it hasn’t
changed and never will so we will continue to triumph over each other until one
day… only one is left standing.”
“That is ridiculous!” Sakura snapped after hearing the
last thing, “Why do you have to keep fighting?! Why can’t you change that for
once?” she paused when the brunette’s expression changed but she couldn’t tell
if it was good or bad since she couldn’t see his face. But she continued when
he didn’t say anything, “Why not call it a truce and work together and see
if that really hurts you than your pride?!”
Upon hearing that the brunette looked at her as if he
saw a ghost and Akamaru softly whimpered once. Sasuke was observed the werewolf’s expression then asked
again, “Why don’t you take us to your leader? You’ll never see us after we have
a word with him.”
The brunette was brought back from his stupor by this,
“He’s not available…” he muttered, “I told you everything, now leave.”
Sakura was about to complain but Sasuke
gestured her to not to as he spoke again, “Fine. Lead the way out.” It was
getting very late and hearing the night dwellers got high when they were under
the moon, he didn’t want to stick around and find out what would happen to
them.
Kiba debated whether
to keep the girl or not. Seeing that if she stayed, his leader would be happy
but knowing that Uchiha is alive from her would want
him sticking around too. He despised that idea so he did what he could do and
show them the way out of the forest in silence. His leader didn’t need to know
that they’re still alive. Not yet anyway…
Kiba brought them at
the port safely as he promised and was about to leave when Sakura spoke up.
“Thank you for helping us Kiba.
Hope we meet again.” She hesitated, “We’re returning here one day… you know
that right?” knowing any kind of communication was impossible to make unless
one came here by themselves, she didn’t pull out to give her card as her usual
habit. The card had the hospital she used to work but not anymore… so it was
useless either way.
“I know…” he muttered before hopping onto Akamaru, “The boat’s hidden near the water… goodbye.” With
that he left them in a rush.
Sakura sighed and turned around to look for the boat
but a hand on her shoulder stopped her. She looked at her partner
questioningly.
“We are not leaving.” Sasuke
said firmly looking at where the brunette disappeared a moment ago.
“No offence Sasuke-kun but…”
Are you out of your mind?! “… we lost our
gadgets back in the forest…” Not to mention we dropped all our food inside
that smelly building! Sasuke didn’t say anything
but kept looking for any indication of Kiba’s return.
Then she understood his motives, “Sasuke-kun! You’re
not thinking of looking for him are you?! Y-You said he was good as dead…”
Sasuke turned to glare
at her, “You can use the boat. I’m not going until I confirm he’s still alive.”
“What?! That’s
dangerous!” Sakura tried to argue, “I’m not leaving you behind alone to do
something stupid!” But he has always done stupid or risky things at times…
When have you ever left me? “Then
as your commanding officer I order you to follow me.” He knew he didn’t need to
say it because she’d follow him no matter what his orders were.
Sakura was about to rant but stopped when he said
that.
“You didn’t need to say it...”
“If I didn’t then I’d have to report you in after we
head back.”
But will they ever be able to head back at all? No
matter how they looked at the situation, it seemed like they’re going to become
the meals of one of those creatures sooner or later…
They silently reentered the city where they dropped
their food, water and other necessary supplies into a building when they were
being chased by one or the other kinds that lived in the city. One would either
call them extremely stupid or extremely brave after going back to the ghost
city. But no one was sane enough to talk anyway. Sakura sighed as they
reentered the tattered hotel building.
“Let’s go to the top floor. Chances of being found
there is low.” He told her as he glanced around the broken hallway from the
wrecked lobby.
What if the roof comes off?! What if the vampires can
fly and find us there?! What if there’s something else up there?!
Sakura wanted to scream and take back her words about following him like a
loyal dog. “You’re right Sasuke’kun!” I’m such a
fool…
They climbed through the broken stairs as silently as
they could but as soon as they reached the third floor they heard footsteps
shuffling and froze.
+++
The light bulb was blinking repeatedly. He knew he
should have brought a new one with him when he saw the light’s state like this
last time. He cussed mentally as he tried to ignore the blinking light and
reach out the wheel of the volt. He turned the wheel swiftly and accordingly
before it made that usual sickening noise and opened the door for him. He
wasn’t surprised when the poor life of the light behind him died as soon as he
entered the room. He cussed again before turning on his mini flash light and
moved around the giant shelves until he came in front of a shelf with a tag ‘U0MB00’.
He opened the unlocked cabinet and took out a box and placed it on top of the
single table in the centre of the room. He sat on the chair and took out two
guns out of his holster then placed them on the table before unpacking the
contents inside the box.
As soon as he started to reload his guns he heard
familiar footsteps coming outside the room. He didn’t bother to look when he
already knew who it was.
“You need to change the light bulb Naruto-kun.”
The new comer informed as soon as he entered the darkened room.
“Came to feed?” he asked ignoring the question.
“Am I not allowed to see your well being anymore Naruto-kun?”
When Naruto was done with
his task he turned to look at his companion, “After disappearing for entire
week?” he tried not to sound too concerned. After all, he knew the other was
just using him and he didn’t mind, as long as he could get what he wanted…
“I was collecting information.” The blond sighed
heavily, “…have you had anything in a while?”
“I had,” he said nodding, “Did you find the other
piece you were looking for?”
“Yes I had. It seems that there’s no hope for me to
return to my original state Naruto-kun.” His voice
never faltered.
The blond’s blue eyes
widened a fraction before narrowing, “You can’t be sure of that Itachi. You haven’t found all the pieces… like last time
remember? You thought you were going to die in the next moon but after you read
the next piece the meaning turned something else.” He paused to see dark haired
man was now smiling at him, “There’s only five more left isn’t it?” he asked
replacing his guns in his holsters.
“Yes. Only five more left.” When the blond was ready
to get up and leave, he pushed him back on the chair, towering over him. He
moved so fast that the other failed to see, “I need to be fed Naruto-kun.”
+++
The dark haired teen was standing outside of the
abandoned security compound for last ten minutes. Observing
his surroundings from shadows. His friend was somewhere inside one of
the large buildings. He stayed back to watch their backs. Getting inside this
place was as dangerous as walking in the city at night. But he was glad that
most of the night dwellers avoided coming here since it was quite far away from
the centre. Even though this hour was at his convenience… it wasn’t good for
his human friend.
A few minutes after his friend got inside, he felt a
faint presence of someone. It was faint but he could tell it was there at least
for a second. Just now he felt it again, but it disappeared as soon as it came.
He looked around frantically but could not find or sense anything. If anyone at
all wanted to go inside, they had to pass him first then know a few security
locks before heading inside.
When he heard footsteps coming from inside he felt relived. He turned to see his friend coming out at
last. “Che…”
Even though he could have helped his friend break into
this compound easily, the blond never asked him to and he never told him how he
knew the lock codes for every door inside the facility. He never told him how
learned to use the weapons. He never told him who drinks from him. The only
answer he got was a smile and ‘It’s not important Shika’.
Even though they’re very close friends, Naruto kept secrets from him. It hurt him to know that. But
then again…he was keeping secrets from him too….
“Did you get everything you wanted?” he asked and the
blond nodded quickly. As soon as he was a meter close to him he could smell the
scent of blood and took in his friend’s feature as the moonlight fell on them.
He turned around avoiding meeting the other’s gaze, who was fine with that now
too. “Let’s head to Ino’s.”
“I’m fine Shika.”
But I’m not… “You don’t look
well.”
As if on queue a dizziness splashed on him. “Alright… lets head over to her
place first.”
At any other circumstances the dark haired teen would
have asked if the blond wanted a ride but the smell of blood was slowly numbing
his sensible thinking. Not that he was hungry. He just couldn’t stand that
scent. It was like a forbidden fruit.
They approached the motorbikes sitting near the first
double gate then hopped onto them. The dark haired teen didn’t say anything as
they started to move. Sometimes the blond wondered if he was a bad friend by
keeping Itachi a secret from his friends. The only
friends he had was Kiba, Shikamaru,
Ino and Itachi. It was
painful to think about the others even after long agonizing years… it was that
monster’s fault. He felt anger boiling within him. Even though he chased after
the monster all these years, he was never able to kill him. It felt like he was
toying with him seeing the other hardly hurt him through their little
encounters. The only thing he ever found battling him was a painful truth,
which he too kept a secret from his friends.
He sighed heavily as he followed Shikamaru’s
tracks and kept a steady pace. Maybe he should’ve asked the other to give him a
ride but he knew the other wouldn’t simply agree. He has noticed how Shikamaru disliked being near him every time after he fed Itachi. Good thing Kiba was not
around otherwise it wouldn’t take long for him to identify Itachi’s
scent on him… Thank god Shikamaru didn’t change…
he thought it every time he was met with this awkward situation.
In front of him Shikamaru
mentally cringed and sped up his bike.
To be continued…
AN: Sorry to update
this after such a long time. I didn’t have plans on updating this before the
last of the ‘Sasuke-Kitty’ series (if you’re not
familiar with that then check my profile). Thank you for all the reviews! I’m
hoping to hear more responds from you lot! Response + digital cookies = updates!… bleh~
Due to some stupid personal problems all my fanfictions from all the websites except this one has been
removed. As you can see the name has also been changed (much to my distaste).
Let’s just continue to pretend nothing’s changed ne?
*Kiba is referring to the
moon. Moon is a sacred to both vampires and werewolves.
