To say Tsunade was thrown off would have been a grave understatement. This wasn't just training with her old teammate. This was leaving with him, and rarely, if ever coming back home. "You're sure about this? Leaving with Jiraiya again, like this... Who knows when you'll be back. The three years in which to get Sasuke back are almost up." She watched the youth a while, and when Naruto swallowed and gave a shaky but determined nod, the hokage inclined her head in return. "Alright, Naruto. When Jiraiya's headed back this way, you'll be the first to know. But understand that there are new rules you're going to have to obey if you want to stay out of Konoha."
Again, Naruto gave a nod, barely any more steady than his last one. "H..Hai, Hokage-sama."
Lifting a brow to the formality, Tsunade leaned forward slightly in her chair, folding her arms over her desk. "...Does this have.. Anything to do with the Uchiha and what happened the other day?"
Naruto's jaw clenched again for a moment before relaxing, and he managed one of the most fake smiles of his lifteime. "Nope. I decided this a long time ago, Tsunade-baa-chan. Before he even left." His smile widened, and Tsunade wasn't fooled, but didn't call him on it. "I just think this is best for right now, isn't it? Things've always gone so great here when I'm not around."
Tsunade's look sharpened, and the lines on her face became more apparent. "Don't say that, gaki."
Naruto's smile fell slightly, and he lowered his gaze slightly. "It's true, baa-chan."
Tsunade paused, watching the teen in front of her for a long while before letting out a slow breath, pushing her chair back and standing slowly from her desk again. She didn't say anything, and Naruto faltered before favoring the floor with his gaze once more as she stepped up in front of him. The hokage clucked her tongue softly, lifting a hand to scruff it through messy, soaked blonde hair. "...Go home for now, gaki. Get some sleep, some food... And you smell, so I'd suggest a bath as well." She smirked, and it faded when Naruto didn't retort with anything, didn't even look up. Stroking her fingers through the boy's hair, she saw his shoulders shake, and she gave another soft sigh, leaning down slightly and tilting Naruto's face up by the chin. "Are you going to be alright on your own? You can stay here a while if you want. Shizune's been as worried about you as I was. Tonton, even." She watched the azure eyes carefully, noting that Naruto still wouldn't look at her directly.
"..I think.. I'd rather be alone for a while, Hokage-sama."
Tsunade heaved a sigh, straightening up. "Don't call me that, brat. It makes me feel old. Go home. I'll be calling on you again in a few days and asking more about this, got it?" The blonde gave a nod, and Tsunade stepped back, leaning on her desk and waving him off. "Go on, then."
Naruto nodded, turned, and pushed the doors open slowly before stepping out of the office. The ANBU guard left there eyed the boy warily, and Naruto simply hunched his shoulders, digging his hands into his pockets and leaving a trail of water droplets as he walked as carefully-slowly as he could back out of the tower. He had some serious trouble with the stairs, stumbling and slipping down a few, but managed to reach the street without many more scuffs than what already marked his skin and clothing.
He just wanted to go home, shower, and crawl under his covers until Jiraiya came back, so he could leave this place. He wasn't sure why exactly he'd wanted to just leave Konoha behind, but during his long way home, his mind had linked together all the painful memories, and they all started here. So leaving it behind seemed like the most logical thing to do.
Nodding to himself, Naruto stumbled slightly, then hissed, continuing on down the road. He ignored anyone that talked to him, vaguely recognizing a few shop owners, and even Konohamaru and his gang. He hadn't even heard what the boy had been saying to him, and eventually the academy student and his friends had fallen behind, because the buzzing of his voice no longer reached through his muddled thoughts. He passed right by the Ichiraku ramen stand, not responding to Teuchi's greeting or his daughter's, and he got a few more feet away before a more familiar voice caught his attention from back in the ramen bar's direction.
"Naruto!"
Naruto froze mid-step, then planted it on the ground, trying to continue forward. No.
"Na..Naruto! W-wait, please!"
Not Sakura.
Not now.
The kunoichi caught up with him, and Naruto held back a long sigh, and let her be the first to say anything. "Naruto? I-I heard what... I-is it true? Did Sasuke really..?" She trailed off on seeing the blonde's face. "...Naruto...?" She spoke so softly that the blonde barely heard it, but he still didn't look her in the face. She bit her lip, shaking her head so suddenly that Naruto couldn't help but turn and blink at her. Her face brightened, and she flashed him a grin. "Let's.. Let's not talk about it, then. It's good to see you home, Naruto. I bet you're hungry."
Naruto's stomach chose then to vehemently agree with his friend and teammate, and a light pink dusted Naruto's cheeks. He hadn't brought anything with him, what with his rather hasty flee from Konoha four days ago. Sakura grinned a little wider, tilting her head with a wink.
"Ichiraku's? My treat. Even if you eat ten bowls."
Naruto smiled slightly before it faltered, and with it, Sakura's face fell slightly too, knowing what was coming. "...Not.. Not today, Sakura-chan.. I..I'm cold and tired and... just..." He sighed, rubbing his forehead, and Sakura blinked, noticing the lack of the blonde's headband. She opened her mouth, but Naruto shook his head again, dropping his arm. "I just want a shower and bed, 'kay? We could meet up tomorrow for Ichiraku's if you still want."
Sakura paused with a small stutter before nodding silently. Naruto nodded back, turning on the street that would lead him towards his tiny apartment, only to let out a surprised grunt when arms came around his shoulders, tugging him back into a body that was warm despite the rain. "Naruto." The soft voice whispered firmly, and the blonde sagged into the embrace, lifting a hand to rest against one of the other nin's arms. "....It'll turn out okay."
"Sakura-chan.." Naruto sighed, closing his eyes and just leaning into the warmth, hanging onto the girl's arm.
A warm head rested against his neck for a moment, then Sakura stood slightly onto her tip-toes to press a light kiss against her friend's cheek. Naruto turned to her sharply when she pulled away, and the kunoichi only smiled. "...C'mon, idiot. You can barely walk. I'll help you get home. No questions."
---
Naruto opened his eyes slowly with a low grunt, then shuddered suddenly at the feeling of his sweat and the grime of the forest still on him. Sakura had demanded he sleep before trying to stand up in a shower, since she'd ended up nearly piggy-backing the larger ninja up the stairs to his apartment, and she knew he'd just pass out and probably drown if he tried. When he'd waggled his eyebrows and suggested she could take him into the shower instead and help him clean up, he'd earned himself a hard punch in the jaw.
It still hurt.
She'd apologized profusely for it, but he could tell that she was glad he'd had the energy to at least make the obscene suggestion. Sakura, despite everything, always somehow found a way to make things better, and Naruto could tell he could do the same for her. Now, if only they could have had that effect on their former teammate...
Naruto shook his head sharply, grunting as the action jostled his still sleep-numbed brain, and he held his head as he stood up. Stripping out of his clothes absently, figuring he could deal with the feeling of dirt on him a little more if he wasn't wearing the dirt that had ingrained into his clothes as well, he stepped away from his bed. Shivering slightly, he realized a few steps into his kitchen that that probably wasn't the wisest of ideas. He hadn't turned up his heat before he left, and the near-week now of rain had kept the place cooler than it had been in a long time.
Steering himself around, Naruto headed for his washroom. After sleeping, even though he was still debilitatingly hungry, he didn't have trouble with walking or standing now, so he knew he'd be able to last long enough in the shower to scrub everything off.
If only it could be that easy for all of the thoughts that had surfaced in the last three days. He could live with washing those away, as well.

A/N: I can see Sakura being a great sisterly-figure to Naruto... Putting him to bed and making him do his homework and making him soup when he's sick.. Yeah I don't know what else to say about this chapter. o_O; OHLOOK--A DISTRACTION.
Review replyses! ;w; *loffloff*
Dana I totally don't remember the drowning. o_o Must have been an anime incident. XD I'm all caught up on the manga, but I couldn't stand all that filler they've got in the anime. >D I'm waiting for them to get back to the plot before I watch again. But yeah, I can see why tons of people dislike Sakura. But.. I dunno. She has some redeeming qualities sometimes too. I just like liking her past her bullheadedness.
SadisticKiss: XDD! OMG, I'm sorry. But I'm trying to keep Sasuke in chaaaracter, and that's what he would think. He's really retarded sometimes like that. Hopeless. u_u Naruto will beat sense into him eventually. *nodnod*
SharinganEyes: I rock like rock candy? Woah. That's pretty hard. *heart* But yeah, Naru's leaving, and since he asked for it, and I can't see Tsunade ever saying no to him, of course he's gotten the okay. XD He's already spent almost three years basically as a wandering nin with Jiraiya, and he hasn't gotten into serious trouble yet. >_> So Tsunade goes "O-K!" *insert Tsunade making Maito Gai's 'good-guy' face*
*insert Maine getting ass kicked by an irate Tsunade*
