Author's note: Here I'm finally again with a new chapter! Many apologies that it took me this long *winces* I had trouble deciding which prompt to tackle next and then this week I finally got inspired again. I hope I still have readers for this, but if not, I'd understand given the delays.
Warnings: Kiseki's pov; set in the future when the twins are ten years old; mentioned bullying; mentioned violence; protective Uchiha strikes again (literally)
Dedicated to: RedCeleste (I know it's not exactly the prompt you asked for, but I worked at least part of it in this one)
I hope you'll like it!
Chapter 49
The Uchiha family had a lot of Alpha.
That was just how it was. Whenever a child was born, chances were that it would be an Alpha. Kiseki was an Alpha; papa was an Alpha, just like Itachi-ji-san and grandfather. Her cousin, Akihito was an Alpha too. Not everyone turned out an Alpha, of course. There were several Beta as well like Shisui-ji-san and her older brother Kei for example. Omega was more rare in their family, but it did happen. Kiseki's twin brother, Kenta, had presented as an Omega, just like their cousin Shion and like their daddy and Deidara-ji-san.
Sometimes people thought it was funny that Kiseki had turned out to be an Alpha while her twin brother was an Omega. She didn't get what was so funny about that. What did it matter that she was an Alpha and her brother an Omega? Kenta being an Omega didn't make him weak, far from it even! The strongest people she knew were Omega! Both her daddy and Deidara-ji-san were incredibly strong, papa and Itachi-ji-san said so, and Kiseki had seen with her own eyes how daddy was capable of throwing big, strong Alpha over his shoulder and making them cry for mercy in the dojo he sometimes visited.
Yet sometimes people thought they could make fun of Kenta, thought they had the right to taunt him because he was an Omega. Kenta didn't have Kiseki's "fiery spirit" as papa often called it and usually ignored the less than nice remarks whenever they were thrown his way. But Kiseki couldn't do that, though. She couldn't just stand there and hear some bullies call her brother names all because of what he was. They couldn't get away with being mean to her family!
And it was that stance that led to her, Kenta and their classmate Yasushi standing in the principal's office, awaiting the arrival of their parents. Yasushi was cradling an icepack against his cheek and occasionally he would turn and glare at Kiseki. She just glared twice as hard back every time, making him look away hastily every time. Yeah, he better looked away! She would punch him again, no problem!
Tugging at her sleeve made her turn around to her brother. "What?"
Kenta looked at her nervously, whispering, "Are they going to be very angry, you think?"
"Of course not," she scoffed and crossed her arms. "They weren't angry either when Akihito defended Shion, remember?"
She and Kenta had been too young to remember it, but Akihito had told them about the time he had defended Shion from a group of boys who had been taunting the younger boy for being an Omega. Akihito had almost beaten them to a pulp and when their parents had shown up, Deidara-ji-san had congratulated him for defending his brother. Apparently the principal – the same principal they were standing in front of now – had not been impressed by that at all.
"Yeah, but they're our cousins," Kenta muttered and fidgeted. "That's different than us doing it."
"It'll be okay," she promised, patting his arm. Maybe papa would sigh and remind her that she shouldn't be punching others, but she doubted they would be really angry. She'd just been defending her brother, what was there to be angry about?
The principal finally looked up when the door opened, revealing papa, daddy, and some brown haired woman Kiseki didn't know, but who she guessed had to be Yasushi's mother. She had the same long nose as he had anyways.
"All right, what's going on here?" Daddy demanded, striding over to them. He raised an eyebrow when he saw the icepack against Yasushi's cheek.
"I'd like to know that as well," Yasushi's mother said primly; her heels softly click-clacking against the wooden floor. "I had to cancel my appointment for this, so it better be something serious." Then she noticed her son holding the icepack against his face and she uttered a startled noise. "Yasushi, what happened?!"
The principal cleared his throat and placed his hands on his desk. "An altercation between your son and the twins happened on the playground during their break. Some words were exchanged before Kiseki-chan decided it was prudent to punch Yasushi-kun in his face." Disapproval practically dripped off his face and Kiseki bristled, balling her fists.
"He deserved it! He started it by insulting my brother!" she snapped and pointed at Yasushi, who buried his face into his mother's stomach.
"Insulting him?" Papa narrowed his eyes. "What exactly happened here?"
"As I said, some words were – "
"I asked my daughter, not you," Papa cut off the principal coolly and turned completely to her, ignoring the spluttering Beta man. "Kiseki, what happened?"
"Yasushi was bullying Kenta!" she stated, throwing another foul glare at the boy in question. "He was calling my brother weak, saying that he was pathetic and useless, because he's an Omega and that he should be embarrassed to be an Omega when he's an Uchiha. So I punched him in the face to make him stop! He doesn't get to bully my brother!"
"Is that so?" Daddy asked and while his voice was mild, his eyes were practically shooting daggers at Yasushi and his mother when he turned to them. "Seems like a sincere apology from your son is in order."
"An apology from both are in order," the principal insisted and rose up. "Yasushi-kun shouldn't have said those things, but Kiseki-chan shouldn't have punched him either. They were both out of line. May I remind you that this isn't the first incident we've had with Uchiha children here? I would have expected the both of them to know better after what their cousin did."
"And I would have expected this school to have learnt from its mistakes and would have started teaching all the children here that Classes don't make someone weak," Papa said coldly. "My daughter defended her brother when a classmate was being sexist, I see nothing wrong with that."
"Sexist?" Yasushi's mother spluttered outraged, quickly growing red. "Now you're blowing things out of proportion! My son isn't sexist! Children will be children still and they'll say things that aren't - "
"Children will be children?" Daddy repeated and scoffed loudly, shaking his head and putting his hands on his hips. "At ten years old I expect them to behave better! At ten years old, they're old enough to know that nobody should be bullied because of their Class! If your kid doesn't know that lesson already, when are you going to teach it to him then? When he's older and has assaulted an Omega?"
"Now you're going out of line!" she spat, raising her voice. "Do you even hear yourself talking right now? My son said something he shouldn't have said, that doesn't mean he'll grow up to assault someone!"
"How would you know when you're obviously not teaching him basic lessons in decency?" Daddy retorted sharply. "If you were raising him properly, he wouldn't be bullying my son because he's an Omega!"
"Okay, let's all calm down," the principal said in a futile attempt to restore order. "I understand that you both are on your children's side, but the fact remains that Yasushi-kun said something he shouldn't have and Kiseki-chan punched him, which isn't allowed either. You can't solve bullying with violence."
"Why not?" Kiseki pouted and huffed. "It made him shut up, didn't it?"
She thought she saw papa smirking before his face smoothed out again. "We expect a sincere apology from your son tomorrow," he said to Yasushi's mother, who now seemed too angry to do more than hiss. "We're taking our children home for today so that they can calm down. And Onoki-san? Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to consider teaching your students to respect each other."
Daddy grabbed them by their hands, leading them outside, and Kiseki took just enough time to turn her head and glower warningly at Yasushi before the door closed behind them. She didn't care what the principal said; next time anyone tried to come after her brother again, they would eat her fist.
"Be honest, how many times did you punch him?" Daddy asked casually as they made their way to papa's car; papa carrying their schoolbags while Kenta trotted subdued next to him.
"Three times," she answered honestly. "And then they pulled me away."
"Okay, punching someone isn't nice and you shouldn't resort to violence every time, but this time we're letting you off the hook," Daddy grinned, squeezing her hand gently.
"Oh, we are, are we?" Papa said dryly. "Glad you made that decision for the both of us."
"Oh please, like you haven't done this before," Daddy scoffed. "She did this to defend her brother, I see nothing wrong with that."
"So you aren't angry?" Kenta asked meekly, his worried eyes flickering back and forth between their parents.
"Of course we aren't angry," Papa replied soothingly. "That boy was out of line with what he said to you. Don't listen to him; what he said isn't true."
"Damn right it isn't, we Omega are anything but weak," Daddy declared and ruffled his hair. "That classmate of yours is an idiot, Kenta, don't listen to anything he says."
"See, told you so," Kiseki told her brother triumphantly and he smiled weakly at her.
Even if their parents would have been angry at her, though, she still wouldn't regret what she had done. If you hurt her brother, you paid the price, it was as simple as that.
AN2: I know it's not that long, but I wanted to give you something after the long wait! I hope it wasn't too boring at least ^^;
